I wonder if the music was edited in after the scene was filmed. The sound of the song seemed to be a perfect match of the released single. It makes me think the performance was "lip synced", as was common in films at the time. However, I could be wrong....
So cute... yeah.. and I share your reaction .. as that was how I felt when I discovered my Mum's old vinyl records when I was really small. She had a few albums that had the best of the doo-wop era. I remember listening to Run Around Sue.. The Leader Of The Pack ... Teenager In Love.. Sh-Boom... Little Darlin' .. Dream Lover' .. Teen Angel .. Soldier Boy etc.. and falling in love with all of these songs.. and the talents. Mind you.. I fall in love with the GREATS from every genre just about! It can't be helped! 😳🤭😉 Music is life!!! ☺ Cheers from Canada 🍁
Nice reaction, He is a brother in recovery but at the time of this recording Dion was deep into a Heroin addiction that would rule his life until1969 which gives him about 55 years clean. He is very open about his recovery and how 12 step programs changed his life. He has done some amazing work in the last 10-15 years collaborating with many people like Peter Frampton, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Keb Mo, Mark Knopfler, Boz Scaggs and many more. The new album coming out is a collaboration with a different female singer on each song including Susan Tedeschi.
This is from the 1961 musical/comedy movie titled “Twist Around the Clock.” It’s about 90-minutes long and also features Chubby Checker who made “The Twist” dance famous; hence, the movie title. Dion also sang “The Wanderer” in it.
In an age before the modern music video, most of us in the Heartland were only able to see top performers in movies or TV Variety Show. Technology has thankfully changed all that!
I was a kid when this first came out. I loved the song, partly because my name was in the title. I was too young to really understand what the song was about, had a good laugh at myself when I got older and heard it again.
A quick sidebar - back in the day, vinyl came in mainly two sizes, the LP. long playing 12”, and the smaller single play, the 45”. Usually one side of the 45” would carry the hit record, while the other side carried a filler song. However, in the case of Dion’s hit side Runaround Sue, it was followed on the flip side with the equally popular The Wanderer. Big bonus for the kid buying a 2 for 1 record.
A thought just occurred to me. You're a movie loving fellow, yes? Have you seen the movie called American Graffiti? If not, I think it's a must watch for you. Assuming you haven't, I can tell you that it's a movie about one night in 1962, and features a lot of music from the period that this song comes from.
Dion was SO GOOD. Absolutely love this song. What a voice. Even though this was from a movie back then people did not interrupt the performance by clapping until the end. Especially in swanky clubs like this one! That all ended with The Beatles, although my mom used to tell me about rowdy Bobby soxers with Frank Sinatra and of course Elvis Presley fans!
As I understand it, this film version was shot in Hollywood for a movie. The music is lip-synced and the white band members and audience are all actors. The real group consisted of the Del-Satins and black musicians from the Apollo Theater. It was not shot with the original musicians because at that time, theaters in the south wouldn't exhibit the film if it contained a racially mixed group.
You would love checking out old black and white videos of Bobby Darin performing> "Mack the knife", "Beyond the sea" "Dreamlover" (which Bobby wrote) and a live performance of "If I were a Carpenter".this guy could "Move", he just had this "natural rhythm' he felt the music.
I love this song and Dion cracks me up. I saw you did a review of the Wanderer the other day. One song he is explaining how much fun he has running around. Then he does an entire song about the outrage of her running around. LOL. Maybe it is just I got this song a lot as a kid because of the name.
🎶🎶🙊 .. Dion was such a star. Of course this one is on my oldies song list. Everyone loves to sing along. I actually released a cover of this song over at the music app BandLab. So much fun to jam to these oldies. Keep them coming Saeed ! 🥁🥁🎼🥁🥁🎼
This is one of my dads favorites. I believe my dad was in his 20s when this came out and he still listens to this sing daily.....he madecit his ringtone
We have these old videos because they were going to build a jukebox that played the record along with the video. Even though the video-jukebox was a flop we have that failed idea to thank for all these vintage videos.
This is hilarious! Views of the audience shows them looking on in static unmoving poses like they are bored! At least in the broad view of the audience there is one woman at the upper left beating her arm to the beat. 😆
I can't believe the audience is just sitting there with no reaction to the song. What a bunch of duds, HA! This Dion song was a but before my time, but I have loved it since I started getting in Rock and Roll. Great reaction Saeed. Thanks for featuring Dion.
This song, according to neighborhood teenage gossip, wss about his girlfriend, Susanne. Who knows if she dated someone else, but, they have been married to each other for their entire lives. God bless them.
Isn't it crazy how times have changed?!! The crowd acts like zombies. Today they'd be bouncing all over the place. I was born in the 50s and really remember how reserved society was back then.
The older guys in the band in this movie clip are ridiculous, younger people play rick and roll, not old farts. lol reality check here...includes some peole in the audience too...and I'm an old guy now lol
It's from a movie. The director probably told the actors what to do. Watch this: Dion - Runaround Sue (Live - 1963) The quality is less good, but you will see a real audience. 😊
60's rock was great.
100%
This brilliant singer Dion is still singing today. Hes wonderful. Thanks for the reaction. ❤❤❤❤
You didn't want to have that nickname back in the day. Everyone knew what a runaround Sue was. ❤
This was from a movie. The crowd is not reacting because they are an older crowd. At the time, this music appealed to mostly young people.
I wonder if the music was edited in after the scene was filmed. The sound of the song seemed to be a perfect match of the released single. It makes me think the performance was "lip synced", as was common in films at the time. However, I could be wrong....
Many of these 1950s Rock and Roll bands had a young heart throb lead singer but had middle aged band members, like in this post!
I realize that but it sure look ridiculous lol. "Hey dad, can you and the guys at least wear toupees? Get a little face lift maybe? It's embarrasing."
So cute... yeah.. and I share your reaction .. as that was how I felt when I discovered my Mum's old vinyl records when I was really small. She had a few albums that had the best of the doo-wop era. Thanks, you saved me a lot of typing
So glad to hear this. Thanks for posting.
@@cynergy4 Ha! that's my favorite line...took me 20 minutes just to type this lol
He was originally known as Dion and The Belmonts. Then went out on his own
One of my favorites from my younger days.
Back in my early teen years.
This is from the 1961 musical/comedy movie titled “Twist Around the Clock.” It’s about 90-minutes long and also features Chubby Checker who made “The Twist” dance famous; hence, the movie title. Dion also sang “The Wanderer” in it.
Check out Del Shannon. His song "Runaway" will blow your mind. Especially for the times. ('61)
Runaway '67 is a much better version than the original as it was done the way Del Shannon wanted to do it in the first place.
In an age before the modern music video, most of us in the Heartland were only able to see top performers in movies or TV Variety Show. Technology has thankfully changed all that!
Dion has turned out some KILLER blues albums later in life.
It’s truly great to watch younger younger people truly enjoy the music that I grew up on I was nine years old when the song came out!!!😘😘😘👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ich könnte die Füsse und Hüften nicht stillhalten ❤ Da muss man doch tanzen ❤ Toll toll toll ❤
Dion is awesome. So many memories. Remember there was no auto tune back then. This is sheer raw talent. Love your reaction!
Great classic! Thanks Saeed and Robert.
So welcome Clinton and Saeed👍
I was a kid when this first came out. I loved the song, partly because my name was in the title. I was too young to really understand what the song was about, had a good laugh at myself when I got older and heard it again.
O my!! Never knew who sang this but was one of my mom's favorites. O we so appreciate you Saeed. Greetings from South Africa
Now that is a trip down memory lane 😃.
Thanks for watching! Greetings from Belgium.

To me this is the greatest pop song ever. Flawless.
Love Dion, thanks for sharing
great song to dance to!
Hot damn, that brought me back - I was 13 years old. Thanks for this.
Great song reaction 🎉
Classic.
You cracked me up...."He charmed the pants off me, ill be his run around Sue". I about spit out my water tonight. Lol.
Oops 😄😄😄
Love him. He's still sounding great 🎶🎵
Thanks Robert and Saaed 💚
That tune is so infectiously danceable! Another one that gets me like that is "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel.
Love the saxophone in this one!!
Hey Saeed, Yes, he does sound good enough to listen to all day! Have a fabulous day my young friend!
Always loved his vocal style
Thanks for this. A journey back to the good ole days.
I love it! I totally agree, that it's so awesome to have video recordings from this time. 1961, wow! I was 3. 🙂
He is a great singer!!!! Thanks Saeed!!!
Simple message from simpler times. Love it.
❤Dion❤. Grew up and a paisan of Arthur Ave the Bronx❤

You gotta check out his version of Purple Haze, a charming, low-key interpretation.
Love juke box music C❤
Ah, Dion..early Dion. Great song and great reaction, Saeed. Go young man, dance on!! Get up and shake a leg !! 🙃🫠☺️😊😆
I love this song and Dion cracks me up. I saw you did a review of the Wanderer the other day. One song he is explaining how much fun he has running around. Then he does an entire song about the outrage of her running around. LOL. Maybe it is just I got this song a lot as a kid because of the name.
I really had a lot of fun with these reactions! And what a voice!
Yeah, talk about a double standard! The wanderer is a master of his own destiny, but Sue is a liar, not to be trusted.
🎶🎶🙊 .. Dion was such a star. Of course this one is on my oldies song list. Everyone loves to sing along. I actually released a cover of this song over at the music app BandLab. So much fun to jam to these oldies.
Keep them coming Saeed ! 🥁🥁🎼🥁🥁🎼
He's got a new song with Samantha Fish. Definitely worth checking out.
My dad raised me by himself, and he used to call my incubator run around Becky after this song LOL
This is one of my dads favorites. I believe my dad was in his 20s when this came out and he still listens to this sing daily.....he madecit his ringtone
Dion fell into addiction, in his 20s. Cleaned up, still recording new material in his 80s. Still married tom” SUE”.
Such a great song!! 🎵🎶 This is on the American Graffiti soundtrack!❤❤
Loved that movie!
2:39 Runaround Sue is why Dion describes himself as The Wanderer later in the album!
I have since reacted to that song as well!
Is this actually the first ever ZOMBIE movie?!! That audience looks DEAD. ha ha
You might enjoy Bobby Darin, “Beyond The Sea” "Mack the Knife" "If I Were A Carpenter" "Dream Lover"
We have these old videos because they were going to build a jukebox that played the record along with the video. Even though the video-jukebox was a flop we have that failed idea to thank for all these vintage videos.
Classic early 60s Great song 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
This video is a scene from a movie. I'm 71 and was around 8. I had a huge crush on him, of course.😅 I saw the movie but don't remember the name.
This is from an old movie yes...hence the disapproving squares in the audience!
He charmed the pants off of millions. In my opinion, don't be ashamed to have a man crush. It is well understood by many!
You need to listen to The Diamonds sing Little Darling.
This is hilarious! Views of the audience shows them looking on in static unmoving poses like they are bored! At least in the broad view of the audience there is one woman at the upper left beating her arm to the beat. 😆
🎶🎶💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃🎶🎶🎶🎶

This was filmed for a tv show - the audience was probably directed NOT to react until the very end.
This is a clip ftom a movie. If this was a real performance, the audience would be jiving along, not just sitting there.
You should now listen to Tommy roe sweet pea, jam up and jelly tight, dizzy, everybody, those are all great songs of his.
Dion sounds really good. What great records. Wait till you hear Gene Chandler or Gary Puckett.
❤
It funny that they made teen Rock and Roll movies in the 50's and early 60's but the bands performed to so such and old boring crowds.
This song, according to neighborhood teenage gossip, wss about his girlfriend, Susanne. Who knows if she dated someone else, but, they have been married to each other for their entire lives. God bless them.
Check out your own backyard. It’s about his life and getting off of drugs. It helped me get sober.
This makes me miss my 2 oldest brothers. Those outfits! I think he exaggerates about Sue because his man feelings are very hurt 💔
The king of Doo Wop.
Can you react to Work Song by Dion. It's amazing and I haven't seen anyone else react to it.
From a teen movie.
This is the karma song since he was a Wonderer
Isn't it crazy how times have changed?!! The crowd acts like zombies. Today they'd be bouncing all over the place. I was born in the 50s and really remember how reserved society was back then.
I think this is from a movie.
This is from a movie, but I can't remember the name.
I get a kick out of the audience.....not a lot going on there!!! Ha!!!
The older guys in the band in this movie clip are ridiculous, younger people play rick and roll, not old farts. lol reality check here...includes some peole in the audience too...and I'm an old guy now lol
It always struck me with this song that he sings a lot of the same few notes and it’s a lot about rhythm, almost like rap.
Great observation!
I can't understand how the audience can sit still. Nobody.oving at all.
It's from a movie. The director probably told the actors what to do. Watch this: Dion - Runaround Sue (Live - 1963)
The quality is less good, but you will see a real audience. 😊
Hey Saeed, don’t you love thec’50’s and ‘60’s music? I think you do. Keep on listening to the music of my youth, as it’s the best music.
❤
