Oh my gosh...how could anyone take issue with your last reaction? It was great, and you were very positive. I'm a Disturbed fan and I found absolutely nothing wrong with your reaction. And...it's YOUR reaction. Even if you hated it, it's YOUR thoughts, feelings and opinions. Their negative comments are more evidence of the truth in these lyrics.
The Sound of Silence was written by Paul Simon in 1961. The meaning of the song is a warning regarding the dangers of TELEVISION.. shut up and believe what they say on TV. Don't think for yourself, don't demand the truth, mindless dribble. The true greatness of any song is when it's relevant and true, even 60 plus years later. Disturbed has created what should be our new National Anthem, absolutely chilling and oh so pertinent today. I was 11 yrs old in 1961 and know how fantastic television was then. Most people had black and white, color tvs too expensive for the working class. No cable TV, no videos, 3 or 4 channels that captivated our world. Now look at us, woke and destructive and dismissive. What a sad lot we turned into. God Bless and be better y'all.
please do realize that David Draiman is very ill during this performance so you will hear some congestion a couple of times. That being said, he is still absolutely amazing!!
David Draiman is a professionally trained Hazzan. Jewish version of the catholic Cantor. He spent many years training/leading and solo work. He does have a beautiful voice. Love listening to him sing this song!
David Draiman won't do anything in the studio that he can't do as well live. He always sounds amazing. Thank you for your style of reactions. We love them all! Also, please do Hold on to the Memories by Disturbed...it's not a screaming one. 😊
Thank you for the hold on to the memories.....I jist posted that I lost my daughter 4 yrs ago and my Mom passed away Thursday. I have tp finish one more Sounds of Silence and then go to “the memories“ - important to me tonight for obvious reasons 🙏❤️
Saw him at Ozzfest in Lubbock circa 2004ish. He bummed a lighter off of my little group. He was belting out along with the band playing at the moment. I couldn't even tell you who it was because he was so amazing. Just singing, standing in the grass beside us. About an hour later Disturbed took the stage. He was as awesome just standing outside in the night as he was on stage as he is in the studio. It was absolutely badass.
I’m not a metal fan, but this performance opened my eyes to David Draimon’s amazing talent. A song he wrote that is very powerful regarding mental illness is “Reason to Fight”. Worth checking out
While his voice is classicly trained, he also works with a world renowned Metal/Rock vocal coach. I'm impressed how effortlessly he transitions in and out of the distortion, with such power and control. So glad you enjoyed it.
Hi! I'm sorry you had others being rude about your previous reaction to Disturbed's Sound of Silence. I'm glad that, despite your experience, you've given the live version it's own reaction. This is definitely my favorite. Even though David Draimon was sick, his voice is pure heaven to hear. I also enjoyed your interpretation of the lyrics. Every time I hear this song I'm seeing/feeling another level of meaning to the words, so it was awesome that your own has altered/grown over time. Thank you for sharing your time, your interpretation, and your kindness.
You really should listen to Hold on to Memories and their cover of Sting's If I Ever Lose my Faith in You. They are both really well done and accentuate his voice.
This version of the song by Disturbed is by far such an emotionally driven/powerful performance that moves the soul...really appreciate David Draiman's musical gift of singing/performing....well done!
I watched both of your Disturbed reactions, beginning to end, and appreciate them both. You put a lot of thought and care into your reactions, as well as a lot of insight, based on your background. Thank you for taking that time. The people that throw shade your way, are part of the problem with nowadays - short attention spans have ruined so much. People like you...and myself...are a dying breed, Josh. But our time has not passed yet. Keep doing things as you do. With that out of the way, while I am a massive Disturbed fan, I can respect the fact that you're not into heavy metal, or any of its offshoots. Personally, I can listen to basically anything, given the right mood, but I know that a lot of people aren't that way; nevertheless, I'm not bothered. However, to accommodate your more-selective tastes, might I recommend a reaction, by you, to the following Disturbed songs, if you're so inclined: Hold Onto Memories (a personal favorite of mine) A Reason to Fight Already Gone Darkness If I Ever Lose My Faith In You The Light If I think of any others that I believe you might be more inclined to like, I'll mention them in the future. Thank you.
For a song that was released in late 1965 as a warning this version shows the anger felt for the warning not being listened to and it is so prophetic about the times we are living in.
Thank you SO MUCH for doing your reaction to this live version. You do an amazing job and us that don't know how to break down a singer. Thank you Sir. May you be blessed!!
This “new“ reaction to the LIVE Conan performance would HAVE to be a different sort of reaction. They told so much of a story with that video...you have no choice but to appreciate the lyrics even more! They expressed them perfectly imo
I loved your reaction. You absolutely acknowledged David’s talent. This was an amazing cover 100 percent! I agree with you also about Metal as a genre. Not my thing. I sure would love to see David do more of this but I have searched and can find nothing that even comes close. Maybe he’ll do something else in the future.
I love reactions by trained singers and especially when you stop the video to explain things. If we want to see the whole video we can do that ourselves.
Mate, there was nothing wrong with your first reaction to this song. You were honest and I thought you did a great job. This reaction was awesome also. I can tell that you really love singing and just want to enrich peoples lives. A world without music is a world without life.
People really dont realize how much talent and skill alt, heavy rock and metal bands have in them. They don't always show it but this versatility is unreal...
Hello. Massive Disturbedfan here. First thing first. Yeah he did have the flu and high fever at the Conanshow. Then I have to say you did a great job whit this reaction, respectfull pausing 👍 Try out Sabaton - A lifetime of war please.
Disturbed is my fave band. They do heavy metal but also a variety of songs a little more mellow. I love The Light, No More and A Reason To Fight are a few of my faves.
Josh, hope you got my comment about listening to "Uninvited Guest" by Disturbed....vocals by David Draiman......produced and arranged by David Foster, written by Diane Warren and David Draiman! Beautiful!!
Thank you, for a well thought out reaction...I love to listen to other people's insight on song. I found the most informative ones are those of singers and producer. I would love to hear your break down of Hold on to Memories, Uninvited Guest, A Reason to Fight and Darkness, Some other covers they do are: Land Of Confusion (originally by Genesis), If I Ever Lose My Faith In You (originally by Sting), It would be nice to hear their songs reacted to. Reactions seem to stay with mostly only Sound of silence, Thanks for your time.
I second Uninvited Guest. Its a beautiful song. People hate on it because its not heavy. But... i dont always need to be pumped up, ready to murderfy my enemies. Sometimes i need to sit by their broken bodies and reflect on the thing that was taken from me that led to the battle in the first place. 😋 in seriousness though, its a haunting, beautiful song that really shows off his vocal talent.
Yes Josh....David has always mesmerized us being able to sing LIVE any song they record. He has an amazing voice and amazing control. His use of the vestibular folds in his throat for the rasp just awesome. Try "The Light" by Disturbed....I think you'll like it a lot! Listen, most of us highly appreciate your reactions and your knowledge and insight into singers and their music. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this reaction/evaluation. Love hearing thoughts from folks who have an ear for the very finest of details and understand and share about the technical issues of singing as well as performing. Would you please check out the YT video of Pocol Harum doing Whiter Shade of Pale in Demark, live in 2006. It includes backing by a symphony and choir. A 1960's song that was epic then, sounding unreal and very emotional.
They released a cover of Sting's song "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" on 9/11/2020 that you would probably enjoy. Like "Sound of Silence," they've made it their own with a universe meaning.
Ok...I’m kind of taking this song to heart amd pushing the “hold on to the memories“ video for selfish reasons. I lost my 27 yo daughter 4 yrs ago, and my Mom passed away Thursday, so life is short, and people need to appreciate EVERY MOMENT! I have to turn away now and watch hold on to the memories and have a good cry. God bless each and every person that sees this post. We all need to try to live our BEST LIFE! And touch as many people wirh love and kindness that we can. No one ever knows what may be causing pain behind the person that you pass anywhere you go. It’s much easier to be kind and smile, than act like a creep and the whole world owes YOU something. No. It doesn’t. And always remember, you reap what you sow. If you greet people with negativity and hatred, that’s all you will get in return. Love and respect act as boomerangs - I love it when one whacks me in the head! It means I’m doing something right! SMILE! 😄 IT FEELS GOOD! AND, IT’S CONTAGIOUS!!!
As has already been suggested, 'Hold on to the Memories' is another held back, beautiful emotional performance from David. I would aslo add 'Reason to Fight'. Links below; 'Reason to fight' ua-cam.com/video/IJhLRTtkH-I/v-deo.html 'Hold on to memories' ua-cam.com/video/QAnqNxLjuAA/v-deo.html
David is wonderful... you really need to listen to some of his ballads... they are good... not as powerful as this.... but good. Am 80, and have never heard a better cover than this one
Paul Simon liked this version so much that he told David Draiman that he had put Disturbed's song version on his personal Social Media accounts. I think this version actually fits better to the lyrics than Simon and Garfunkels. It is not a light and airy song it was giving us a warning way back in 1963 when it was written a short time after Kennedy's assassination. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
I wouldn't worry too much about it man. Some people like a simple video where the watch a person listen to a song. Nothing wrong with that. Others, however, can and do appreciate a thoughtful breakdown by someone that knows what they are talking about. Thats why I watch guys like you, I like to learn. Oh and yes David's voice is great live or studio. He was trained as a cantor for many years and has amazing control of his voice.
Thanks Josh, such a great song and an amazing cover...Love disturbed they are deep...Dont sweat the haters, we love that you put your time in for us...Amazing sound live and he was sick at the time...Thank you, Peace
The reason people watch reaction videos should be to hear your reaction! It makes no sense what so ever, to complain about comments in a reaction video, when every one of us can just listen to the original video performance on youtube without comments.
You should react to the song that David Draiman wrote after taking his young son to see the movie Coco. It's called Hold On To Memories. Watch the live concert version, you will have to have a box of tissues ready. Beautiful and haunting.......this is a must see and must hear!!! ❤️
I always love to hear others interpretation of different songs, not all ppl will have that same reactions, or thoughts about it, it is definitely a conversation piece without being rude to others thoughts.
You mentioned in your introduction that you have received negative feedback because you don't just listen to the song all the way through then say a few words. I have watched over 100 reaction videos for this song searching for your type of analysis with more "meat" to it than just "wow, he's good". There are very few reactors out there that give the kind of insights and and analysis that you give. THANK YOU!
@SingleDadReacts THANK YOU! You took the time to listen. Most people pause every 5-15 seconds to mention something that was said in the song. That's frustrating and annoying. Your reaction is amazing. To: Whoever said those negative things. Step on a lego! His reaction is awesome!
Thanks for your reaction. I would love to hear your reaction to Guy Sebastian and John Farnham, two very popular Australian singers, one from the +70's and the other is current.
I'm so very sorry that the haters got on you with your last reaction. I just do not understand people... ONE of the byproducts of issues addressed in this very song. People talking without speaking... Sooooo many people on auto blab instead of listening and conversing about a subject. David's voice is so pure... You have to guess it's his coming from a long line of Jewish cantors. I prefer the video version, but I have mad mad respect for this version, because he gave this amazing performance while sick with the flu. Thank you for sharing! Blessings!
Your channel, you react the way you choose I respect that. If someone wants to see the video without any pauses, they can go and watch the original video. Good reaction to a great performance!
Darkness was one of my favorites that portrayed Disturbed's softer side. Huge fan of this group and especially his vocal talent. I enjoyed your reaction to this rendition. I'm sorry if I missed it but did you decide if this version was better in your opinion than the studio version? I know this is the version I will seek out.
Im sorry to hear that you got any negative comments. I hope you are able to not let that affect you too much. I thought your reaction was unique and authentic to who you are, which is great. ❤️ I really appreciate you message at the end. Thank you
"Hold on to the memories" is one of the best, but he did a live version of this with Miles Kennedy in Houston (I think....) that's worth listening to. No need really to react to it but it is a stellar performance.
This! This comment is the Sound of Silence. Paul saw it before it existed. The sing waa about a vision. The collapse of personal relationships and personal communication. These days, people text in the same house. I think of the original as the warning. I think of Disturbed's cover as the anger after the fact.
Watching vocal coach or pro singer reactions are my fave to watch. Not only have I learnt so much, I also respect their comments and enjoy the stops along the video. Great job, I have enjoyed watching your reaction
Hi, new to you! Thank you for your analysis! One of my favorite things is when a band brings in an orchestra. With some songs, actually a lot of rock songs, because you think that is a strange pairing, it just adds in that extra full sound with all of the beautiful instruments. And with this particular song, it really punches the message home. And like you said, the placement of the orchestra within the song is critical and so well done. And balanced. The orchestra adds to David and he to them, nothing is taken away here, it is all balanced. And yes he was sick and running a fever as I recall, maybe a touch of a cold? An odd reminder and nod to Freddie Mercury and Live Aid. He was sick as well and still,as they say, “The Show Must Go On.” Again, thank you. ❤️
Diana Ankudinova has a new stellar performance for you to see. An arrangement of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. A lot of dissonance. Less of a love song than a spiral of obsession into madness. She shows off full head voice and seamless transitions as well as a new belt full of all the subharmonic/polyphonic witchery one has some to expect from her.
I don't know if you reply to comments but I have a question which you would probably be able to answer. I am not at all educated but I enjoy listening to voices, I have a "layperson" knowledge of singing techniques but mostly just enjoy listening to voices. So - I noticed that in this live version, David Draiman doesn't hold on to the "growls" as much as in the studio version. What amazes me is that when he doesn't do that (which may be due to his being sick on the day) the tones that he sings are so clean and bright (like "tenement halls"). I get impressed because I get the idea that this is a really skilled singer who knows his instrument very well and is able to make decisions. But I'm curious as to what is actually going on, technically ... I don't know if my questions makes sense but it appears to me that his voice is in some way "failing" (like he doesn't have the strength to keep it going, sort of what you mentioned that he seems to take in more breaths than he would probably normally do when being well) but it doesn't break - it sounds like it just seamlessly readjusts into being bright and tender.
Disturbed doesnt do a lot of screaming, but they do do quite a bit of growl like in this song. "Are you ready" is a good song that I think is considered hard Rock.
There's one more version of this song that's an incredible must-see. Check out Sound of Silence with David Draiman from Disturbed and Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge. As David says, Myles is his Garfunkle for this one. ua-cam.com/video/H3By4DZyTNM/v-deo.html
I really REALLY enjoyed your reaction to previous/first time listening to Disturbed and their cover of this beautiful song. Continue making amazing content like this and while it can be difficult to completely ignore the rudely inconsiderate critics, continue being true to yourself, your channel and the “nay sayers” will weed themselves out.
Brother - Loved the reaction. This song actually got me started looking at reaction videos. I have listened to more than i care to admit - and i always like the musical/analytical view the best. Keep the faith!
good reaction video dude! thanks for your honesty with your musical taste/preferences...not all music appeals to everyone...me personally, I've grown to appreciate/like the heavy stuff...musicians tend to have a lot of "crayons" in their box so that they can use whichever "crayon" whenever they're inspired to do so....Disturbed pulls this song off really well by being versatile and using their musical/instrumental gifts to inspire music fans everywhere....peace!
Keep doing what you do. No need to listen any negative Nancies out there. Different from most others reacting to music, you actually go through the lyrics trying to understand the song and the meaning beforehand, and I like that.
David was trained as a classical cantor. (Someone who sings in a Jewish synagogue, I'm sure you know that ^.^ but for everyone else) He was in training to be a Rabi, but he was a bit of a rebel, and his path took him to become a whole different kind of singer! On a side note, David had the flu when he did this performance, but refused to cancel, and at one point the Conan sound people used auto tune, and he got really mad at them! Great reaction! ^.^ You would probably enjoy his song's "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" and "Hold on to Memories" they are this kind of singing. I'd love to see you do a reaction to them. ^.^
ALL of our “songs“ are being silenced these days. We have to tread so lightly so as not to “hurt anyone’s feelings“. We have to learn to accept constructive criticism again! That’s how we learn!!!!! How we GROW!
I'm a new subscriber. I loved your reaction, not just the words you said, but the actual reaction in your face while you were listening. As a musician, I don't care so much about applause or comments as a measure of how much an audience enjoyed a performance. People generally want to be polite and will applaud or make positive comments to my face. The truth is in their expression while they are listening. If I see someone literally leaned into the performance with their eyes closed, I know if they are truly enjoying what they are hearing. I've performed in front of 80,000 people, and in front of 5 people, and I'm always looking (if I can actually see the audience) for their expressions. I know you're not a metal guy, but its not all bad. Some of the best vocalists I've ever heard are metal singers, not necessarily screamers. I would love for you to watch and react to Queenryche's Geoff Tate, particularly "Take Hold of the Flame" live from Japan. Its the 80's, so nevermind their hair and clothes, lol, but take in Geoff Tate's vocal performance. I would love your opinions and reaction.
I think you’d enjoy Tom Jones’ live studio performance of “I’ll never fall in love again” in front of a studio audience from the 1960s, there’s a B&W clip on the internet . It’s also epic performance 👏👏🎵
Hello Josh and thank you. Wow it was very moving to listen live What a powerful voice! Chills! I really appreciate your feedback and I'm enjoying it. Hope and peace for you too. Friendship of France
There's no reason to be ugly in the comment section everyone has their own interpretation regardless if the band themselves has even told us their meaning behind the songs. That's what makes music so great. We all get to place our own meanings we get from a song from our past experiences.
Love this version of the song so much, my families plays it a lot, enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this performance! Would love to see you react to some of Tyler Joseph's vocals from the band twenty one pilots, I think you might enjoy his 'live from Brooklyn' performance of their song 'My Blood', I love it even more than the original.
Your reaction was excellent! I notice you do your homework on a song before you react to it, and that is good! Most reactors do not take the extra step and then come off looking ignorant with many of their comments. I think anyone who makes their thoughts public in any online forum such as this needs to develop some thick skin and be ready for negative comments. This is the first of your reactions that I have watched, but I do like your style and will be checking more.
Oh my gosh...how could anyone take issue with your last reaction? It was great, and you were very positive. I'm a Disturbed fan and I found absolutely nothing wrong with your reaction. Paul Simon was 21 when he wrote this song. Let that sink in.

He has a classical background in music, and heavy metal...what a mix.... And original singer gave his blessing for this song...
Ah, this is a classic by an amazing singer. Disturbed is a really underrated group
You really should listen to Hold on to Memories and their cover of Sting's If I Ever Lose my Faith in You. They are both really well done and accentuate his voice.

David has stated in several interviews, that what you hear in the studio is what you should hear live. He definitely lives up to that.
I have literally watched dozens of reactions to his performance on Conan, and yours is one of my favorites. Thank you. :)
Agreed!!!
Definitely agree! ♡
I love that this song was appropriate when is was written in the 60s and this version is very appropriate for the times we live in now.
THEY SAY HE WAS SICK DURING THAT TOO!
When I saw Disturbed in concert, David Draiman was sick as he was here. Still sounded awesome.

As has already been suggested, 'Hold on to the Memories' is another held back, beautiful emotional performance from David. I would aslo add 'Reason to Fight'. Links below;

Yup he was sick which is why he is sitting down
The reason people watch reaction videos should be to hear your reaction! It makes no sense what so ever, to complain about comments in a reaction video, when every one of us can just listen to the original video performance on youtube without comments.
AWESOME PERFORMANCE. If you haven't already, please listen to Hold on to Memories with David 😊
THANK YOU!
@SingleDadReacts
THANK YOU!
You took the time to listen.
Most people pause every 5-15 seconds to mention something that was said in the song. That's frustrating and annoying.
Your reaction is amazing.

Whoever said those negative things.
Step on a lego!
His reaction is awesome!
PS. You'e got a new subscriber. Much appreciated
Blessings!
I've listened to many reactions to this song tonight and you are my favorite. I'm glad I found you.
This live performance by David made my cry.! And the titel ; "Sound of Silence" made me urge to do several poems with the same titel! OMG !! LOL !!
Loved your reaction to this amazing song.
I appreciate your reaction and thoughtful analysis very much.
the video of this song is nice too, it is literally about music bringing light to the world.
Your channel, you react the way you choose I respect that. If someone wants to see the video without any pauses, they can go and watch the original video.
Good reaction to a great performance!
Thank you so much for your time, and sharing yourself in doing your reactions. You made my day brighter, and you make this world a brighter place.
I really appreciate you message at the end. Thank you
"Hold on to the memories" is one of the best, but he did a live version of this with Miles Kennedy in Houston (I think....) that's worth listening to.
I enjoyed your take.. I believe you are spot on..
If you want another that shows off David's vocal abilities, check out his song "Reason to Fight" you would definitely love that one.
Check out the performance in Houston which was assisted by another singer McKinney(?)
I'm not sure, but I think you're thinking of Myles Kennedy.
"Are you ready" is a good song that I think is considered hard Rock.
home free.
man of constant sorrow.
There's one more version of this song that's an incredible must-see. Check out Sound of Silence with David Draiman from Disturbed and Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge. As David says, Myles is his Garfunkle for this one. ua-cam.com/video/H3By4DZyTNM/v-deo.html
one of the mandatory reactions songs... epic performance and the amazing part to me is that he does it seated the whole time
One of those perfect singers where live version beats the studio one 🙏🏻🔥😎 glad you go for this one, tnx 😉
Paul Simon\s original describes things that make him sad. This guy is talking about why he's ANGRY 😎
I liked after listening to you…. And subscribed after the 2nd pause. 💕❤️👍🏻thank you .
good reaction video dude! thanks for your honesty with your musical taste/preferences...not all music appeals to everyone...me personally, I've grown to appreciate/like the heavy stuff...musicians tend to have a lot of "crayons" in their box so that they can use whichever "crayon" whenever they're inspired to do so....Disturbed pulls this song off really well by being versatile and using their musical/instrumental gifts to inspire music fans everywhere....peace!
Never mind the 75, you’re just fine and doin’ a great job, thanks !
❤love your reactions. Best wishes from 🇦🇺
I'm a new subscriber.
David was #DownWithTheSickness during this performance ,, they autotuned 1 note, ticked David off so much he got over it
Please react to Hold on To Memories by Disturbed’. NOT… a screaming song… but a beautifully delivered message
Hello Josh and thank you. Wow it was very moving to listen live What a powerful voice! Chills! I really appreciate your feedback and I'm enjoying it. Hope and peace for you too. Friendship of France
I like your honesty
He sounds amazing, I've seen them once and it's like you see and hear here.
David was very sick during this performance.. He is also a classically trained Jewish Cantor
Usually my ADD won't let me watch videos this ling but my man this was great and held my attention. Well done!
