I'm a gatekeeper and proud of it!
So, you want to be a hacker, but think gatekeepers are unfairly holding you back?
... ummm, yeah... hopefully the irony of this 'gatekeeper' concept is dawning on you : )
Hackers grew up breaking things... pressing buttons marked "Don't press this button"... dismantling stuff to figure out how it works. If you need someone to hold your hand and teach you how to be a curious self starter that can solve novel and unique problems...
      ... go home!
Or, alternatively, go get your CEH and get paid to use tools that others have written, to inform long reports your client isn't likely to read and make suggestions your client mostly won't follow... all so that they can tick a box that says : "are we proactive about our security?"
(now, re-read that last paragraph again)
If it appeals, you'll be a hacker in the same way that I WAS Spiderman, when I was 4 years old.
      So, yeah...
      *Choose your own adventure :*
      Page 1
You find yourself in a wide open space. Ahead of you are lots of fascinating objects who's purpose you cannot ascertain from here. Life is limitless and opportunities abound!
An adult stands in front of you with their arms folded, shaking their head disapprovingly. They look grumpy and unhelpful.
They are a gatekeeper (24HP, 0 Damage per attack)
      What do you do :
      a) If you cry, return to the top of this page
      b) To look around for another adult, go to page 4
      c) To simply walk around them and investigate, go to page 312
      d) If you wish call an abuse line, put down this book and go shoot yourself!
*EDIT:* Just kidding about option (D) ... Really! don't ever do that! You are a beautiful and unique little precious snowflake - and the world is better with you in it ! Bug hugs and little bunny kisses!!! x x x

you literally pointed at every certificate i doted down as "needed" on my way to OSCP and you said not to do those... I just finished my CCNA studies, just need to take the test now, and was planning on doing Comptia Sec+ next... but i will not. What you said makes a lot of sense, and during my CCNA studies i realized it's somehow wrong to get multiple choice on each exam. I have a decent amount of Python experience, and have been using Linux for the past 8 years, and for the last 10 years i've been working in IT (helpdesk level stuff), so it's time to go for my dream of cyber security. I'll follow your roadmap, and subscribe to your channel. Your way seems harder, but it makes a lot more sense. That analogy about learning to swim by reading a book really "hit the nail on the head"! Cissp and Ccna are irrelevant to pentesting. Cissp is for management and policy roles, ccna is for neteng roles. Totally different niches of security and not going to do anything but slow you down. There's no such thing as multiple choice in offsec, either you can find the vulns, exploit them, and report them, or you can't. Simple as that. Drop all that MQ shit and start using the keyword on THM,HTB,Proving grounds, etc

There are so many people out there looking for a new career, and it's so hard to find specific, useful information that they can use to determine if a) it's even something they would be interested in doing, b) is the market too saturated to be worth the time and money, c) what skills/learning track should they be focusing on in order to actually get a job? And many people, when you ask them about these things always come back with some cliche like "you get out what you put in." And then there are those click bait videos that make it sound like anyone can just get a certification and immediately start making upwards of $100 grand a year with no experience. Videos like this with specific, and actionable steps from someone who has actually become successful in the industry are priceless. Thank you for taking the time to help beginners figure out what they should be doing.

My interest in everything you said just further denotes how interested I am in being an ethical hacker and not just because it sounds cool or I get to wear a hoodie 😅. But because I want to build a successful career for myself legitimately. I might not be able to reach out to you personally but trust me you've really made an impact in me at this hour. Hello . I honestly would like to thank you because with this roadmap i see clearly stuff . I started txo months ago with basic knowledge such as A+ and network + than i finished . And i was about to start security + because it seems like a top certification and because of all these videos who say that you need to have a security + but i have found out that i lost it and kind of getting away from the ethical hacker path because it was not really technical. So thank you for allowing me to focus more clearly on the EJPT and then the OSCP :)

    I completed...
    - Google Cyber Security - December 2023

    - eJPT - April 2024
    - PNPT - Today lol - August 2024
    - Now going for the CPTS, cant afford the OSCP yet

You should pump the eEDA before eJPT, I think it warms you up for eJPT. In the end if you pass both you will be beginner purple.

mmm it’s not the usual path that I recommend but yes it might help :)

There's no need to do a "warmup" to the eJPT.. The eJPT is the warm up, and I consider even that a waste. Just go OSCP on the first time and screw all the rest. How I did it and how my mentees do it too
