Hey bro. Just wanted to report that a little over two years ago I started IT with zero experience. I did an absolutely basic unpaid internship for about six months and then worked in hell (help) desk for a year and a half. I just got hired as an IT analyst at a prominent aerospace government contractor that regularly works with the federal gov. I could never have expected this. They are even offering to teach me InfoSec and DevOps to get me into that role. What a blessing.
congrats and so glad to hear it! Now the real fun and learning begind 👏🏻
that's great where did you start and what resources did you use, can you share a roadmap? please share

Congratulations, my brother Tunde!
Dude that’s amazing!! Even though I don’t know you, I’m proud of you!!
I've never understood why people have egos in cybersecurity. I've been working in cybersecurity for 5 years and occasionally people still try to talk down to me because I don't know some very small, niche detail. I think this contributes to the lack of talent in cybersecurity because people burn out or become demotivated. You just need to keep pushing through, keep learning and keep a positive attitude every day. It's also worth noting that a majority of people in cybersecurity don't have an ego, so the best advice is to network with those individuals and learn from them.
Yeah they do that to me too, it’s quite sad. I agree, best to avoid those characters and network with likeminded individuals
I want to ask, does applying to work as cyber security require a certificate? I want to take a certificate but the price is expensive

Hey, I subscribed to your channel when it was around 0.5k subs. As always your content are valuable, no click bait, no trash talks. I had gone through all the videos. Thank you so much for this road map. I was really confused about Cisco and CompTia. Thank You so much mate. You're more like a mentor for me. 🙌

What a fantastic video! So helpful. I've honestly realised there is so much content and help on UA-cam then just stressing out and passing exams. I will make a start on these big thank you.

This course list is gold. Thanks for sharing. I have bought a couple of TCM Security courses and love how they teach.
You’re welcome! yes I agree, TCM courses are solid 💯
First of all, thank you for all the invaluable advice that you provide. I’ve had one key realization from watching yourself and other tech UA-camrs. The certifications dont matter as much as the skills. You could have 50 certs on your resume, but if you can’t convey and demonstrate your skills/knowledge to an employer you’ll never land a job. Most important thing is gaining skills you can ACTUALLY do. Put it on your resume and then show your prospective employer that you have the skills.
100%, that’s why I always recommend practical certs with labs over the multiple choice questions-based ones
I really love the psychology, philosophy, and mindset you have towards the industry. I hope someday you will become my boss or that I’ll have a boss like you. When I listen to your words, its moving, inspiring, and uplifting.
thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🏻 my aim to offer help to others who are in the same situation I was in early in my career, glad it’s reasonating with you my friend

Thanks for making this type of video on how to learn cybersecurity as a newbie on fastest way. As a engineering student, I am learning this also to achieve this type of skill in technology. However even though i am studying engineering and IT at the same time it feels exhausted but I know in the future it can help me to build my future better.

Great video with great advices!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for what you do, you are very kind with your time and with the information you are sharing. I have worked in IT for 20+ years mainly on the account management side working with various IT leaders around improving their processes through services and technologies that we (large IT) offer. Cyber Security has been my focus for 6 years now, over the past 3 years I read and ingested the CBK CISSP including Shon Haris book, I wrote the CISSP exam last year and stayed to the 150 questions. I did not pass and I was wondering if you recommend I keep trying, or move on to read and study other areas for example CISM. On your recommendation (as I look to get more hands on) I studies and passed the ISC2 CC exam. Thank you for your encouragement!
hey Paul, thanks for your kind words
if you’re determined for CISSP, then keep studying until you pass it, maybe look for different resources ans do more practice exams
CISM is a good alternative but the topics and exams are different

Hi, thank you for the great content. It seems like everything has been told about cyber security topics but you still find new and relevant aspects to tackle the subject from.
Currently I feel like I am at a point in my life where I have to choose a carrier path for good and I am really considering cyber security. I am 28 years old and have 3 engineering degrees, the latest one being electrical engineering that I really like because of how versatile the different carrier fields with it are.
I love learning new stuff and I am pretty sure that I could do well in cyber security but I also know that the amount of required and available knowledge base is huge and so it feels like it would need full carrier focus in order for me to succeed in it. Also, cyber security seems only tangentially benefited by my degrees and they may feel like a waste. Do think that it is so?
I think I am going to get the basic CompTia certs and some labs anyways because the field interests me so much. I am a bit worried about the possible transition into cyber security because it might mean that my ~5 years of experience in EE related jobs would also go to waste and mean a lower salary. How do you see, what would an employer's response be if I applied for a non-entry level CS job after getting the certs but without real in-field work experience? Do you maybe have any other advice for my case?
I am from Hungary btw so things that you have experienced might be a bit different but may have some carry-over.
hey mate
if you (truly) love learning then you will do well IF you put it in consistent time and effort.
No point pondering whether your degrees are a waste, whats done is done. No more degrees for you though
buckl down and do certs and you’ll be good
Thank you❤

Hey,Unix guy. I'm currently working on selenium automation testing(java) and after watching all your videos I made up my mind that'll get into the cyber security field, but the more i get into starting my journey the more complicated it's becoming there are like different career paths different jobs where to start ,,which is the best way, and what will the job responsibility be how should i pick the one that suits me. I got a roadmap from you videos but still not so confident to start.
It would be great if you do full length A to Z complete guide.
covering
1) these are the career paths and these are it's job roles and responsibilities
2) pick one Job and tell about it start with this cert, resources and next this and to the end land this job. same way for the rest. like forensics, investigation etc
I know u almost covered all these but it's hard to jump from one video to other and go crazy in the end.
A big thanks for your efforts❤
hey Azhar, glad to heat it! yes it can be overwhelming, i think best thing is to pick one roadmap and stick to it, this way you learn as you go. I strongly recommend you start here:

Im studying for the A+ in order to join helpdesk field, but im not sure its the right start for cybersecurity path. In your opinion, it is better pursue the Network path (Helpdesk, junior sys admin, network engineer ecc...) or start with software development? is it easier switch from dev to IT or vice versa? what s the most valuable experience to have in order to break into cybersecurity, Networking or Development (i think i will go for Cloud security, but im not sure yet)?
you can go straight to cyber security you don’t need to do other things before, it’s just going to be harder. developer roles are better than helpdesk because helpdeks is extremely basic

Hello, thanks for the great material. From your list, I must do Linux and Google IT, the rest is already done. I have a question. I am 50 years old and after losing my job in PR/Marketing sector I decided to change career and try Cybersecurity. On March I completed an immense 20-week Cyber Security Analyst course (CyberNow Labs) with very tough hands-on component, passed CompTIA Security+. Currently I have been working as analyst in their SOC, working SIEM (Splunk Enterprise, QRadar), EDR (Crowdstrike Falcon & Sentinel One) tools, making phising investigations (Proofpoint and manually), root cause analysis. Every day it's like 3-5 hours working on tools, the rest LinkedIn and applying. After 3 months, I have applied for 400-500 jobs so far and everything I got was one first round interview. Not a success, really, I need more interviews. I got a feeling I need to change something. Do you have any suggestions? I would really appreciate your answer. Best regards, Pawel.

Thank you so much for such an informative video. Most CS analyst-level jobs are USA-based. Can I work remotely as a cyber security analyst (or any CS post) from a different country than working from the USA? Will demography be a problem in CS jobs? Or are they allowed to work from a foreign country?
you can but this will depend more on the company than the role - some companies allow it some don’t :)
Thanks for the reply. Does it apply to companies in other countries like Australia/Europe/Middle East? Is there any possibility of getting a remote job as a Canadian citizen living in other country (in Asia to be specific) than living in NA? Cz this has been a big deal for me so far
@@freeThink101 yes it does but it’s very hard, preference will always be for locals. Try and get a job in person first, prove yourself, then ask them for remote arrangements (that’s another option
About cloud Security What do you think about CCSP (ISC)² Certificate
it is solid
So the technical skills are required to upgrade to a senior level position from an entry level right?
no those are just skills for those who come from a non-IT background :)
Hey brother, thanks for the informations. I want to ask you, I'm studying COMPUTER SCIENCE, and I'm interested to cybersecurity, I'm ready to learn everything about this field, is there any chance that companies hire me for my skills not the certifications.
most companies hire based on experience and skills, not the piece of paper. Certifications provide a structured way to gain those skills but if you can demonstrate and learn on your own sure why not

Hi! In your previous video, you said to not take Network+ because you can learn the basics of it somewhere else. I'm really confused.
So learn the material for free using the material I recommended. no need to pay for the exam
TLDR; I was worked as a web developer and have been unemployed for about 2 years now. I have played around with Python for about some times now. Compare than other languages that I know, mostly JavaScript, I am more confident to Python. To be honest, I am a type of person who like to take note and do some diagram. Just like last week, I decided to learn ethical hacking and learn it from the Udemy then I googled on UA-cam and stumbled to a Google Certification for Professional channel and The Cyber Mentor. Currently, I watched one of the cybersecurity course from TCM channels and still cover the netwotking stuff.
Even though Adam Heath, the instructor’s name if not mistaken, explain the topic quite dense and deep but I can understand and from his advice to always taking notes for the important stuff. And one of the his lecture for networking had covered from my last 20 years diploma study. And when he talked about TCP, UDP, SSH and so on, I feels like “eh.. I already learned this stuff before..”
And for the Google Certifications for Professional also explained so well about the cybersecurity course at courserra. And that leads me to think to enroll this course in the neat future.
Well for my side, I am slowly getting my neiche and previously I was focus too much to Python and SQL, I hope this is the right decision to explore to the cybersecurity land. Not hoping too much but just keep praying and work on it untill success.
good luck 👍

@@UnixGuy Thanks for reply. It is not a required course, but an optional one. Course is free, but we need to paid for the certificate additionally and spent the time on it.
@@dome4508 do it
Just want to ask, why did you recommend the Google IT Support instead of the Google Cybersecurity?
the google IT support is an introduction and a replacement for the A+ IF someone doesn’t know know their way around computers and wants something quick and introductory. otherwise I recommend the google cyber cert here:

But do you have a mahogany desk with many important papers on it?
lol u making fun of my desk 😂 I’ll de-clutter it one day I promise
Can you tell me are there any backend software engineer or backend web developer skills that were useless when I switched to red team?
they can come in in handy
Hi, what about an Microsoft cybersecurity analysts course
ua-cam.com/video/8gks3pe69hQ/v-deo.html
I heard you can start in Vulnerability Management by taking a Qualysguard certification and learn skills for some of the roles in Vulnerability Management and start in Cybersecurity that way. Would that be a path you would recommend?
yeah vulnerability management roles exist and can also be performed as a tasks by analyst, but expecting to get 6-figure salary in 7 days without having any skills (pushing a button on Qualys is not a skill) is absurd
@@UnixGuy yeah I'm definitely not expecting 6 figures right off the hop but I'm looking to transition from my current career in industrial construction as soon as possible.
@@RepublicOfWesternCanadaNOW good luck, follow this plan to get you started:

hey Abdel, best way is to stick to ONE roadmap, I strongly recommend you follow this one:
ua-cam.com/video/ug_ruisDUXc/v-deo.html
Random question, but can you become a network/cloud engineer with a cybersecurity degree?
yeah, you’ll probably need certs though
I'm 43 and thinking of getting into cybersecurity I don't have any experience in this field but I'm looking to learn. Is it too late?
career change at ANY age is hard and takes a lot effort, if you’re willing to put in the work, I don’t see why not. Start here:
ua-cam.com/video/DRJic8vCodE/v-deo.html
I make 70k+ in my current career. I can’t afford to take a help desk job making 30k+. Can you start in cyber security with no it experience and No degree? I am considering going to WGU but I’d rather get some certs and start working as a cyber analyst.
You don’t need to do helpdesk.. follow this roadmap:

Can you recommend me any courses or UA-cam channels for learning python.

@@UnixGuy which one shud i start with
I once pursued a long-term IT degree with a concentration on animation at that time. I spent nearly six years working as an office assistant and doing a lot of paperwork. I made the decision to return to the IT industry, and thanks to my good fortune, I was able to land a job as a soc analyst for a small company without even having to go through a thorough interview process. I don't know what to do to develop the skills of a SOC analyst right now because I'm so confused. My sole responsibility was to keep an eye on our custom-built siems, We only have this MDR thing which giving us a lot of false positives alerts. I tried to apply to another company but keep failing to meet their standard since the company that I'm working on right only limit us to monitor the MDR and it's has a lot of flaws which they don't even care to fix. I even failed the CC ISC2, and as a result of that failure, I don't really feel confidence in my abilities at the moment. Nevertheless, seeing your videos inspires me to go forward and quit whining.
we all need to start somewhere, if your job isn’t too busy then use the free time to learn and upskill!
@@UnixGuy yes sir 🫡😍❤️
I have a question. I am pursuing my ug in computer applications and I spend my most of time on try hack me, and hack the box. I don't pay for anything on these sites yet but I have completed a lot of machines and rooms. Will my hacking experience on these sites considered if I put my ranking and other stuff on my resume?
yes 100% put that on your resume and list the skills that you learned from those sites

sir being a cyber security analyst is a corporate job right?
and being a ethical hacker is not?
but does being a ethical hacker earn as much as one will earn as a cybersecurity analysis or architect
they’re both corporate jobs
@@UnixGuy I see thankyou sir!
I think I have the skills to work as a SOC Analyst but my soft skills isn't that good get in the industry.
if you have the skills then you should be applying to as many jobs as you can and brush up on your interview skills (watch this:
ua-cam.com/video/uaK7pM3aRj8/v-deo.html )
if you find your social skills lacking, have you considered taking a hobby? preferrably something team sport related so you interact with people :)
Hello unix guy
I finished security+ course and finished the network+ and also I finished my eJPT cousre and I need to continue my pathway through this career to become an cybersecurity analyst, so what do you prefer to take after these courses ?
Well done Omar, you did some excellent certifications!
I recommend you do Blue Team Level1 as it’s practical and will give you more skills, then follow the plan here:

What do you thiink with this AI increased very fast beside in security fiedl?
it will influence things for sure but there’ll still be work

I don’t do zoom calls because It’s impossible to keep up with everyone. I have Paid mentorship calls.

I’m t third year in university and I want to cyber security but I’m afraid from AI? learn cyber security or ai???
Which is better for a job machine learning data, science or cyber security
AI will change things for sure but there will still be jobs. I prefer cyber security but choose the subject that you like the most
