Once it has PC compatibility, it might help this headset somewhat. But without backwards compatibility with PSVR 1 it shot itself in the foot since its release.

The tech is too different. The games would need to be updated via patch. Which means Sony would have had to pay all the developers to upgrade every game. And the aim controller would have been another issue.

PSVR2 coulda been good if it was backwards compatible with PSVR games. If you want to play some VR games like Drive Club and Rush of Blood, you need to have a PSVR, if you want to play Gran Turismo 6 in VR, you need PSVR2. If you want to play both, you get both then need to unplug one accessory and plug in the other one. It's so stupid they spit it up like this.

This is mostly due to how poorly planned the PSVR1 was. The reason it’s not backwards compatible is because PSVR1 used outdated controllers from the PS3 era
@@zachary9385 controller issues is a cop out. Controller and headset tracking is a series of xyz coordinates. It absolutely could work. However backwards compatibility probably would be on a title by title basis with certification and possibly having to build profiles for supported games.
@@bensonr2 I agree, it would take some doing but if they wanted this product to work they would need to put in the effort to make sure most psvr games if not all were compatible.
@@Zadamanim hmmm honestly even _with_ PSVR1 support they'd still be in the same position they're in now, maybe sell another 1 or 2 million headsets? But thats about it i rekon. The problem is that VR in general is very niche, add to that the Playstation ones struggle more to sell because most console gamers are on a tight budget and can't afford a console + a VR headset.
I'm a massive GT7 fan with 500+ hours into the game and bought PSVR2 just for that game alone, so i wouldn't personally care if future games support stopped too much really. I'm still angry at Sony for dropping Vita support though, if they stuck with it like PSP, they could still be in the hand held business today.

On the contrary I think Sony is shifting focus with VR to the PC market which makes more sense. PC is their priority now. My biggest complaint is that they haven't been making 1st party software for the expensive device. So there is less incentive for people to invest in the product.

They cost more than the console needed to use them. It is not backward compatible with PSVR 1 games. Little catalogue. It is with cables. It is not compatible with PC. With quest 3 existing, it is a bad product. Easy reason why they don't sell.

I can confirm the quest 2 does work outside. I played re 4 outside. Awsome experience with the extra space.
It doesn't help they didnt make psvr 1 work with psvr2 that was just a greedy move. It's quite literally a controller configuration update to get the old games to work. That's all a headset that tracks with a camera and light tracking setup to a camra-gyro system is a controller configuration....
I get that they maybe couldn't guarantee full backwards compatibility since PSVR 1 worked very differently, but some attempt should have been made.

I told people it wasn’t gonna sell well because it costs more than the system. I didn’t expect it to also not sell well because was gonna one up Google and basically drop support in a week. Honestly they have stopped supporting it a while ago and left it up to 3rd party developers. It’s like they made it to check a box for the PS5. Can do VR. ✅

That explains a lot. I was 2 weeks in Japan and I didn’t seem to find a PSVR2 on sale ANYWHERE, they were “sold out” but seems that it was not the case
You do have valid points. BUT, I have four words for you: two hour battery life. I bought the thing because I wanted the untethered experience, you have to actually turn graphical settings and features down or off to squeeze out more than and hour and a half tops. The battery percentage dropped 1% every minute just chillin on the home screen. Thought I got a defective unit, nope it’s normal. If you want to plug a battery pack in it, you can extend the life. That damages the internal battery over time though. I returned my MQ3 after few lack luster experiences. Cool tech, not for enthusiasts like myself that want to play deep rich experiences in VR. There are some hardcore bangers year 1 imo. Exclusive to the headset at this time. It just needs more functionality, like the ability to play flat screen games in VR. That would give people a reason to buy PSVR2. I’ve seen people on x develop free software mods to play any game in VR on PC. I bet Sony could make something similar happen for a lot of games on PS5.
Imagine selling a good product that gets slammed because people can't afford because they're struggling to pay for rent and food 😢

At this point I'm sticking with Valve. The Steam Deck and Valve Index offer so much more value for what you're paying for them, and are linked to the computer gaming ecosystem. Getting a good PC, a Steam Deck, and a Valve Index are better in the long run than getting a gaming system and peripherals that are prone to just being bailed on because the company and devs can't be bothered to do anything with them.
