This is why 98% of my gaming and media library is physical. I refuse to go all digital and the moment games go all digital I’m out I’ll stick with old stuff.

I mean, there’s very few developers nowadays, especially in the west that focus solely on gameplay driven experiences, which is what video games are supposed to be most of the games in the west or just glorified playable movies and I am hoping for a gaming crash soon in the west

Even though you rarely sell your games at least the option is open to you and if you didn't like the game or beat the game really quick you can get most of your money back. You can also install game on multiple consoles with no restrictions.

I will never adapt to an all digital future and have a massive backlog of games that will last a life time, so I am already set. I teach my kids from a very young age about the dangers of an all digital future, so they likely won't adopt it ether.

I gave into digital back in 2017 and don’t regret it. My GameStop shutdown in 2020. I don’t look back. I look forward to digital and cloud future

The more events like this happen where digital ownership is called into question, the more piracy and physical media is desired, also getting ever closer to laws and guidelines on how products or services are handled as to prevent the lunacy of things like this from happening again, all we need to do is hit that breaking point.
How flipping hard is it for our bureaucrats to enact a law that says purchased digital goods may not be removed?? Even better if you could transfer your license. Reason Studios does this with their music software licenses.
Taking away media that says bought should be illegal. If we are going to all digital future own needs to mean own forever.

Funny, I just ordered a physical copy of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart from Best Buy’s website yesterday and I’m glad I decided to buy it physically so that I can play it and not worry about it being removed!

@@alexubelNo, I don’t use Steam. I tend to stick to consoles, but now that you mention it. I probably will try Steam out when the time comes that I get sick of console gaming. I just don’t like paying for something that I can’t own, and not being told it’s a rental beforehand like when I was a kid in the 90’s.
I've had my saved data deleted. When i booted up the PS5 there was no save file
Unfortunately this is the way things are going, and we have only ourselves to blame because we allowed it to happen by supporting it. digital movies, digital games, digital money = digital future. (Side note) even when you have a pysical game disk in your hand you still don't have the full game anyway, as you still need to download alot of content digitally along Side it to make it playable.

Of high relevance, if you bought a whole season of some shows before PSN Store removed their movies/episodes section, [certain episodes from the whole season] were removed. *Which is BS.*
People are just finding this out now? I’ve seen this occur numerous times since PS4 Pro release. I’ve had to contact support a handful of times related to this “bug.” Fortunately, I was able to get them back but this is old news.

About a year ago, I cancelled my Netflix, Disney+ and other streaming services. I thought I’m done with this.. I’ve actually gone back to purchasing DVDs now that they’re cheap I go to car boot sales and I buy DVDs and old games and stuff… but I’m kind of done with all this streaming stuff I’m fed up with it
Bought Soulless 1 & 2 for the Commodore 64 yesterday for 5$ and they sent me the ROM and manual in pdf form. Digital is not the problem, the problem is they never give you the game after you pay. My C64 games that I bought are the real game, not a locked software that you cannot backup.

I realised that a few years ago after buying a few movies on xbox. A couple of months after that i couldnt watch half of them. We in fact buy a permission to use a product until its not supported anymore.

I built a new PC a month and a half ago and found out I can no longer play Medal of Honor (2013). There is a limit to how many times it can be installed on different systems. I'm glad I got it for free many years ago. I feel sorry for anybody that actually paid for it. It's no wonder why so many hate on EA. I had a similar issue with Dead Space 2, which I actually paid for. I had to use a noCD modified file to play it. smh
I often logically think that if an overwhelming amount of people just did not go along with these companies new plan for digital only, that they would have to abandon this plan as they would go out of business if people stopped buying games because of this. It annoys me that these companies think they can dictate the market and essentially what we want. I thought it was the other way around, the customer is always right. I was looking forward to playing Alan Wake 2 last year and was fuming to find it was going to be digital only, I am glad I did not give in and buy it as I was already waking up the risks of buying digital games and this recent thing has really validated my decision to not buy anymore games in digital format.
Happy I bought most of my PlayStation 4 and 5 titles physically. So I’m good. XD

I remember a long time ago I lost access to shadow of mordor which I own on disk and I can't play it anymore because it says I need to purchase the game even though I own it on disk and even uninstalling it and reinstalling it did not work

Never heard of them blocking access to game discs or people being prevented from playing there physical media, but I have heard a lot of stories about people losing access to their digital library's.
On the new PS5 slim models with the disc drive the system IS REQUIRED to connect to the internet to register the disc drive to the console on the first time setup. That also shows that sony is requiring DRM for disc drives to work so even if you have a disc you have to do the online check for the drive before it will even function and if sony wants I am sure they can just disable your disc drive remotely.
When purchasing stops being ownership, piracy stops being stealing.

How lazy can someone be? I consider myself lazy sometimes, but always buy physical. You don't even have to go to the store and have the game shipped to you.
Lies, digital is better in every way. First of all you don’t hurt the environment. 2nd you can download and redownload the game anytime you want without a need of a disc or drive. What happen if your drive messed up and stops working then your disc are useless. These companies are pushing for a digital and cloud gaming future
The shady tactics of these companies is why I just copy Blu-rays and DVDs from the library. If I don't really own them and am not really buying a copy of the movie, then there's no monetary damage if I just acquire it through other means because I wouldn't have actually been buying it anyway.
They should only stop selling the content. I dont understand why they can't just allow people to keep it themselves other than greed or stupidity.
This is gonna make not all but a lot of people disinterested in gaming in the future and probably head towards more Retro video game collecting for those who will be able to afford it anyway
The sad thing is that even with physical media we can lose everything. My 360 disk drive is acting up, the belt of the cd/dvd/bluray are made of rubber, those degrade with time, the disks too.

On 3-14 will be a month since I have been able to play any of my games. They all have padlocks. Regret buying digital. Shows I need to rebuy the game then when I click the price it says I already own it. When I called PlayStation I was told I’m the one that initiated this investigation.
This is 1 reason I torrent movies and TV, don't need cable or streaming

We all know that the majority of people that buy digital goods likely won't be aware of this potential and even if licenses are pulled, by then most people won't recognize it until years and years down the line.
Well and some also know that xbox/MS has been much much better with securing your digital games and movies.

4:00 feels like an advertisement for getting a physical copy. Even if the game is not there, the proof of a license is.
It doesnt matter if its a small amount of people experiencing the issue if it happens to one person then thats when it becomes a problem.
Honestly, this is just the kind of thing that happens in any kind of transition. It’s gonna take a minute before everything‘s perfect like everybody wants it to be but every time there’s some sort of issue with accessing what you bought everybody loses their damn minds and it’s really not necessary.
There will be hiccups from time to time, but for the most part I think digital really is the way .

Publishers want you to buy the same game over and over again, lucky for us most games have sucked lately.
Another big reason why I'm lucky I essentially stuck with physical media for consoles for all but a few games that if I lost, it wouldn't be a major loss and I could probably get some on PC. Another big reason I'll likely move completely to PC after PS5.

and that´s why I still buy physical PS1 games in 2024, ps3 backwards compatibility is great
I use and will keep using a somewhat simple method to retain the licences I bought for media.
With movie and shows you can only stream, I simply record them via any means, that works. It the distributor blocks screen recording, then I'll just do it via HDMI grabber and create myself a video file nobody can take away from me.
With games, once I bought a game, I feel free to get it wherever I can, should it get destroyed or unobtainable by the original distributor. This includes any source from the internet. If the company, which sold me the licence to consume that media, won't give me access to it anymore, I have the right to get what I paid for without causing somebody harm. There will always be people creating general ROMs from games of any origin for us to download. And once we got that file, same as with the movie file, nobody can take it away remotely anymore.
