  • Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting...
    I found an awesome 1972 Pre Lawsuit Greco Les Paul Recording Guitar with the super hot Greco Pickups......It has tons of player vibe, looks, and sound ...
    The guitar is Pro Setup and plays just great.
    When I got it, the frets were shot. This guitar had been played…A LOT! No abuse however, just honest, I love this guitar's Player wear. I had the frets Professionally replaced as they needed it.
    All the electronics have been gone over and everything is working on this cool guitar.
    It has an initialed Truss Rod Cover, and one cap is missing from the back of one of the original Tuners. See pics..
    These cool Guitars, Made in Japan, were modeled after the cool Gibson Les Paul Recording Guitars. It looks amazingly like them.
    From the Slanted Pickups and end of the fret board, to include the Out of Phase Switch, this guitar is as close to the Gibson as they could get.
    They were only made in 1972 and 1973. I cannot verify it, but the original owner told me this was a first year 1972. Its that or one year newer.
    This guitar is all original except the aforementioned frets and truss rod cover.
    The guitar is in great shape as is the pick guard and tuners.. All the knobs, tailpiece, Bridge, Tailpiece, strap buttons..you name it...all original and in great shape.
    Only superficial dings here and there. This guitar is in fabulous shape!
    The controls take some getting used to. It has an out of Phase switch that allows in Phase or out of Phase. I believe it works in the middle position.
    It has a 3 way pickup selector switch, tone knobs with 3 settings and another tone knob that works in a couple of the selector settings. A lot of options for tonal settings on this cool guitar. AND, they all work properly!
    I even have the original Hard shell Case. Its as nice as the guitar. Beautiful Gold Plush interior and even the accessory box and Case Key still in the case! Check those pics..
    There is nothing that detracts from the big booming sound of this cool guitar...It has super super low action and it sounds HUGE....If you have never heard these Pickups...you are in for a treat...They sound great!!..
    It looks good, sounds good, and plays good... it will all be pro-packed by yours truly...I do this a lot and have not had one complaint.
    It has a few nicks and scratches as seen in the pics but it is a solid 9 out of 10 Guitar.. But on a cool scale...its an 12 !!!!!!

    The rod cover is original. Greco used to carve owner's initial when it was sold new. The tuners are not, and the pick guard is missing.

    Hey I bought one of theses about 6 months ago, and had no idea how most of it works. Great to see a demo.

    That is a copy of the Gibson Les Paul Professional, similar to the LP Personal, not the LP Recording. The pickups of the Gibsons are single coil, Low Impedance, that Les Paul designed himself for "humbucking" and that it can be plugged directly into a mixing board with very long balanced xlr type leads, like a microphone. I have a "bias" as you can tell from my name, but you can learn more from Tom Doyle's YT channel describing Les's very first prototype. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. I have several of these low impedance guitars I use for teaching, RESPECT!

    Just some further info for anyone looking at one of these now; the pickups are stacked humbuckers. Les Paul actually had them on the first guitar he built way back in the 30s. They're also low impedance to get a very clean sound even at high volume, hence why it was Les' favorite guitar after they built it in 69.

    After doing some research, and having a look through old Japanese catalogues online, this Greco guitar looks more like the Professional model.
    The Greco Recording guitar would have been the RD-650 model, where the Professional is the PE-600.

    Ibanez made exactly the same guitar. I have one myself, still completely original and plays fantastic. Bought new from a music shop in 1980.

    I also bought one of these, about a month or so ago, at an extraordinary price - 45$!!!
    Didn't know much about it, but knew enough to know that it's a pretty rare guitar to see these days!
    Overall it's in good condition, though it requires a bit of work, so I plan on doing that in the near future!
    Looking forward to see the end result, when all the work is done!
    If anyone should be interested, I'm going to record the process, so will probably post a link here when I get to it!
    Cheers! :-)

      damnation, $45? who was the fool who sold it? I paid about $650 more for my Ibanez version. Who's the biggest fool?

      Those guitars are called fretless wonders. I got one, and I thought the same thing the Fritz were wore down to nothing but that’s how they’re supposed to be so I had mine regretted with jumbos.

    The original Gibson Les Paul Recording had low-impedance pick ups so that you could plug the guitar directly into the mixing board.

    • @austinknowlton1783
      @austinknowlton1783 6 років тому

      Yes, they had a switch to go from high to low impedance to plug directly into a board.

      The Recording had an impedance transformer to make the signal correct for an amp. The Professional did not and you had to use a external transformer(pearl made those).
      The PE-520 do not have the low impedance pickups, they just look like them. They are 9,3 to 10,4 kOhms.

    looks more like a clone of the Les Paul Personal (the model before the 'Recording')

    The Gibson version had stacked humbuckers supposedly designed by Led Paul himself.

      Excuse my ignorance, but what is a stacked hum bucker Austin? Thanks.

    • @austinknowlton1783
      @austinknowlton1783 6 років тому

      It's two single coil pickups of opposing polarity just like a standard humbucker. Only instead of side by side they are stacked atop one another.

    • @mrd126
      @mrd126 3 роки тому

      They are Low impedance pickups not single coil or humbucker.

    • @mrd126

      The Gibson had low impedance no idea what this had.

    Sounds excellent. The only part I would object to, is the bolt-on neck on a Les Paul, but that is just me.. aaah ..and a few others I guess.
