Learned a lot off of this as a 17 year-old back then.

I have a 1974 one of these and a LP Custom - different flavours is what I think of them - the LP Recording is great for jazz and similar genres but the LP Custom is for rock and blues

I've played a 1978 Triple-pickup Recording since it was brand new. As far as I know, I have the only one in existence

I've owned several Gibson Les Pauls in my life. I owned a 1973 Les Paul Recording, Great Guitar. As much as I enjoyed playing it, I still prefer the Custom and the Standard. That's just my own personal taste. In this video however, the late, great Les Paul is correct, the new Recordings are vastly improved, and you'll get a multitude of tones with it. Also, the new pickups have a coil tap, and you can go from humbucker to single coil. These pickups aren't like any PAF's or P 90's, you get more jangle and high end out of them. I can't understand why this guitar wasn't a bigger sell for Gibson. I'm interested in purchasing a new Recording, I just don't care for the bixby, and the guitar comes with it whether you like it or not. It's only good for a bit of twang, unlike the axcess series with the Floyd Rose bridge and tremolo where you can drop dive bombs. Still, all and all, it's a beautiful instrument.

The reason it wasn't a big seller was because modern rock guitar players are NOT audiophiles....

I had this record. Was yours a clear plastic square flimsy disc that came inside the brochure? My favourite: " If you wanna get highs." The 1st bar gigs I did was with a guy who played the bass version.

That's a clever little tune there at the end. Some of those tones I really like, a couple were just awful.

I think this is a beautiful and versatile guitar and would rather own one to a normal les paul.
I know that les paul was really into clear and bright tones but some of those are very shrill. It reminds me of something I read about Leo fender .. It's a fact that as you age your hearing goes.. the higher frequencies go first, I've heard that leo's later pickups were very ice picky it's possible this factored in some of the demos in this recording.
