Yeah i got the sense chase rarely encounters such upstanding tax paying citizens in casual. the rapid response to sisay also seemed like a cEDH reflex :)
It's a cycle that eventually leads to cEDH. If you run creatures, people can run some spot removal to handle it. Spot removal is much cheaper mana wise, so you end up on top. People then create synergy with their creatures to compensate, eventually outpacing the removal that tends to lack synergy. The removal then becomes boardwipes. 3-4 mana to remove 10+ creatures isn't a rate that anyone playing creatures can keep up with. Creatures have three options. A. build up mana and carddraw until you can actually beat the insane efficiency of the boardwipes. This leads to metas were people wait until turn 5+ to even play combat damage based creatures. B. outpace socery speed boardwipes. This is using haste and/or combos to kill someone before their turn starts, therefore making counterspells and instant speed removal the only viable counterplay. This is closing in on cEDH at this point. Or C. you get rid of creatures and focus on alternate wincons. This is where combos become the main win condition, and at that point, it becomes a contest to see how quickly you can get to the win. The fastest wins rise to the top along with specific counterplay to those combos. This is cEDH at its core along with a few oddities that evolve out of the meta specific requirements of the format. Boardwipes, imo, make casual games impossible since they make removal too easy, so there's no point in even building up a board until you can kill everyone, devolving the game into combo. Depth comes from the interaction with combo afterwards.
@@zweis I’d rather get more than 2-3 games in an evening. If no one has a board then no one is winning, except through combo which is generally frowned on in casual play. Board wipe hell is definitely a thing.

Dylan going on a rant over what he should have done in a casual game and then realizing it would've saved him is just *chef's kiss* Truly a perfect representation of every time I play casual
13:47 - Everyone missed Tyler’s impact tremors and Purphy triggers from casting and resolving his Commander here which would have resulted in Dylan’s death that turn with the rest of that turns actions. 👀 But gg! Love to see Mana Curves and casual Commander is awesome! It’s funny to see y’all not know cards that do come up in casual like Michiko.
Manacurves is such a fantastic name for an MTG channel you go, chase. I appreciate you guys constantly introducing me to new Magic creators, I'll check their channel out.
YESSSS! I love watching your content, but I'm a casual player. Always so happy to see these games get posted. Two of my absolute favorite decks are inspired by your casual gameplay vids. Gisa and Geralf + Glissa, the Traitor. Seeing those decks play, I thought "that looks really good...I shoulda got that. GIMME DAT! I'm Jokin' - I'm JOKIN'."
the only casual edh i like is building non cedh commanders w cedh standards. Someone in my pod has an azusa deck that has like 4 game winning combos. I have a narset deck that wins on swing. very fun way to play the game, and you never have to worry about games lasting hours.
*looks at timestamp before the title” holy shit this has to be an insane game. Oh wait nope just a regular game. Never sad to see twice as much of my fave players and Chase was a DELIGHT!
Plenty of missed triggers. Sure Its par for the course with lots of game actions over 2 hours. But 21:40 and some other moments Chase gets some free additional land drops. 😂
The line Dylan would have proposed would of hurt him more then helped because for every life he gained and card he drew Tyler would have gotten another snake. Also Tyler missed 4 Xyris Triggers when Dylan played the demon card that drew him 4 cards. However great game very fun to watch.

Cam taps out turn 2, and plays a spell with 3 colored pips. He uses elves and deep shadow and at least 1 pain land. Should he be at 38? (didn't look at the first land either, maybe 37?)
Played Liliana's Contract soon as I found out about it in my Esper deck n was able to win with it the first match I slotted it in. 😅 Definitely put it in as a challenge n it felt very underwhelming 🤣🤣🤣
I dont know if anyone else said this, but there should have been an extra point of damage from purphoros entering bc of impact tremors since he was a creature

"Is this what your casual games look like?" No, sometimes there's two Odric, Lunarch Marshal decks that have acquired lifelink, indestructible, and vigilance, and we have to agree to stop attacking until one of us draws an answer to the other so that we don't end up at 5000 life and have to play for eight hours.
Did I miss something? Why wouldn't Chase cast the scheming symmetry before attacking with the Etali? The card is basically designed for that exact situation. Not that it would have changed the outcome of the game, just seems like a waste.
Fellow Xyris player. Watching him get obliterated each time he hit the field makes total sense. Sucks you couldn’t hit a counterspell or protection at any point!
One time playing casual high power with friends I cast xyris cast wheel in response one friend free countered the wheel and the other blew up xyris. Next turn same damn thing. I laughed.
I wonder why the Blasphemous act by Tyler, killing his own Xyris.. just to get rid of the Michiko? While holding a wheel, and having Purphoros on the board? Lot's of revealing Tetzimoc on other people's turn. The 2-hour long game debuff is real lol.

Caught this also. I do really wish they hadn't put that clause on Tetzimoc though. I think he'd see a lot more play if that was the case.
I feel like chase learned a lesson about cedh players and rhystic haha
