      I agree! The occasional change up is nice, a pauper episode on here got me into pauper and I play it almost as much as commander

    • @Dimitar_Tsanev
      @Dimitar_Tsanev 9 місяців тому +27

      I never got the appeal of commander but with time I grew to absolutely despise it.
      The ubiquity of commander content online and cards in every set actually got me to stop playing Magic and I only watch channels that actually talk about other aspects of the game as well (hence why I'm here).
      I love the non-commander episodes of SU&P and I think that in contrast to the samey commander episodes they actually feature some very welcome diversity and honestly great content.
      I know they don't bring the views commander content does but I really hope people finally get tired of commander within the next couple of years so that the game can actually return to being open, diverse, experimental, ACTUALLY casual (I don't see how a format with such strict deck building rules and a ban list is casual) and fun...

    Love you guys, gotta go and pick up the few cards I need to form a Dandan deck before prices go up... The best thing about a format like Dandan, is that the decklists are known, but that also means that you can grab the cards, sleeve them up, and have a dedicated deck box or section in your oversized deck box for this deck and not worry about improving the deck or swapping out any cards per new set release. All it takes is the one deck, a friend, and somewhere to play it!

      There is a sweet printable 3D deck holder that features the two boats beginning to capsize as the fish surfaces on CuIts3D, definitely worth checking out.
      Longest game we've played has been about 30 minutes, this was an EPIC DanDan match.
      DanDan - White which is Lost Leonin is an amazing variant, you can actually toss all the Phyrexian mana cards in there and its a race to give a player 10 poison counters so it is still 5 attacks worth BUT you get to use life as a resource for all 5 colors of the Phyrexian mana which is extremely fun.

    Dandân and Memory Lapse happen to be among my favorite magic cards (the first one because of the art - my mind was blown when I finally - many years after first seeing the card - realized that there actually is a gigantic fish on the card instead of just two little boats, and that's the real Dandân) - the second one because I love the flavor of homelands and have a weakness for that set, and Memory Lapse is one of the few actually playable cards from it), so whenver I see this format being covered, it's just a very nice treat - and this game also happened to be great. The big stack after diminishing returns was just awesome to see. Some people say blue is no fun, but you rarely get interactions like this in any other color.

    When Georg explained the Predict resolve rules about not having to name a card before the spell effectively resolved, so he could wait for responses, that blew my mind. I am still not sure I get it, I need a trip to the wiki.

    • @GermanGaryOak
      @GermanGaryOak 8 місяців тому +1

      essentially when you cast predict, it doesnt ask you to do anything until it resolves. You dont target anything. The "Choose a card name" only matters if the spell resolves. Therefore, only when it actually happens do you have to name a card

      @@GermanGaryOak Wow, to get an answer from the man himself!
      You made me think about casting vs. resolve times for instant which I had never considered before. What you describe makes sense now that I focus my mind on it, but it was background noise before. I learned something useful !

    The easiest solution to the tutor/perfect information problem is the Pokemon system of prize cards. Instead of life totals, each player prizes 5 cards off the top of the deck face down at the start of the game. Whenever you hit with a Dandan you put one of your prize cards in to your hand. When you take your last prize card you win the game.

    This finally showed me that this format is worth playing. And I'm super curious about other non-blue versions!
    Also, PROFESSOR: I know you want to stay positive in your videos wherever you can, but can you do a video addressing how stingy WOTC is with promos?
    Why is standard showdown giving away a *single basic land* to 1st place only?
    Why are Store Championships, now required to be Standard, giving Top 8 promos for a deck nobody plays (in a different format) that are worth 25 cents? (Hollow One). Imagine if these were something useful, like Sheoldred or that Nissa from Aftermath?
    Why did Secret Lairs go from having awesome "bonus cards" to having random foil garbage?
    All this at the same time that Lorcana is giving away $600+ promos in their Store Championships. My local MTG Store Champ only had two people show up to play.

    Awesome some non commander content, so tired of all magic content just being arena or especially commander… always love these non commander episodes as they are the best episodes in the seasons, just wish I wasn’t so alone and they were more popular so we got more than one every 6 months

    Who would've thought that a game whose most prominent components are a 4/1 with a bad drawback and a card from homelands would have such compelling gameplay? This rules. Georg and Sam are perfect players for this, too.

    I came here because I was cataloging my bulk commons, pulled 7 Arabian Nights Dandan and couldn't believe the value of this unassuming common blue creature. Never would I have thought that there was a whole format built around it. You learn something new everyday. Also, sort your bulk commons, you never know when you are going to pull a full grip of Dandan's.

    I’ve always loved the idea of a shared library. When I was first learning to play me and my friends didn’t have much so we would shuffle up a deck and both play from it. Dandan brings me back to those days in high school.
    I’m really interested in a red variant of Dandan. I envision it to be faster and possibly not even creature based. Almost like Buckshot roulette. I can also see it as a manic frenzy of random discards and land control. There’s just so many ways to build with the foundations of Magic. I live this game.
