I have watched quite a number of videos about making this but your instructions about flattening out the dough to distribute the dal before the final cooking is what sets this one apart. Thank you. I seriously appreciate these very clear instructions!
The only roti that I'm afraid to cook is Dhalpuri Roti. Never attempted to make it, because it intimidates me. Admire ppl who master it. Your Mum makes it look so easy 😀
Taste of Trini your mom really makes this look easy, omg I tried it 2x before and I wasn't impressed at all. but practice makes perfect so I'll keep trying
I love the examples you gave. I am Trinidadian living in the US. I am having friends over for brunch on Sunday, so you made it easy for me to make my roti. Thank you. It was fun, your mom did a great job. Love to my Trini people.

Looks like I found my fav cooking show! I spent about 4 months in Trinidad.. and let me tell you... I was called Roti at the airport when I was leaving... I carry sooo much roti to go back home with...All of it gone so time to make it. Great videos!
Thanks for sharing this with us! So many of these old-school recipes would be lost forever when our Moms and Grannies pass on... Keeping tradition alive!
Ah, thank you so much! I was having a hard time tracking down the same roti that we had when we were in Trinidad. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm going to surprise my husband, he is going to be sooooo excited!!!!
Thank you for this recipe. When I was 1999 (I was 19), a friend of mine who is Trini said he wanted to take me to eat some Roti. Being French Canadian, "roti" is the word for any type of Roast meat, pot roast beef, roast pork etc., so I was sceptical: Why does he want me to try this roast?!? Back then, the most "exotic" food I had tasted was sushi or mexican food LOL I went along, and man, that decision changed my whole culinary world! I had goat roti with a sorrel drink that day and was like : Where have you been all my life? To this day it’s one of my favorite dishes. It was also my first positive introduction to curry as previously, I had never ventured out of my bland comfort zone to try any type of Indian or West Indian food. Of course the curry goodness within the roti rocked my world, but the texture of the Dhalpuri was most fascinating to me, there was a magical blend of dry vs moist and flakey. Uncomparable❤️
I love this video so much! Traditional cooking is the best for sure, no measurements is my go-to method for cooking as well and im so happy to see your videos from Trinidad.
No other Caribbean island can cook better than a Jamaican, our meals are cook with love, it's clean and properly seasoned to taste, the whole world love our food, the other Caribbean islanders are just jealous and trying to copy our style as usual. Jamaica to the flipping world, yea say
Lorraine Reynolds what the hell... Since when have you ever seen a jamaican cook dhal puri. Shut up man. Yes jamaican food is nice but trinidad has more dishes and they use more spice
This is an excellent video...I can't wait to try making this...I love roti, in all forms, shapes and sizes, with delicious curry...Trinis and Trini food are the best!
It is beautiful to prepare the Roti with your Mom I am Bajan. Growing up we did not had any one to teach us. Plus during the 50’s and 60’s they was not too many different nationalities in Barbados at that time like now
A 🇹🇹woman taught my 🇬🇩 mum the way to make roti. To me, this is the best & only way to make it WITH split peas and Jeera. If it doesn’t have that, I ain’t eating it.. love this video! ✊🏾
first time i see a recipe that made it swell like my mommy own. well to be honest because mommy makes such good dhalpuri i never watched on before. good stuff!!
Hi I left trinidad about 25yrs ago and living abroad and rarely eat trini traditional cooking but looking at your video would get me doing some cooking from my busy schedules.Thank you and i enjoy watching your videos.
Hello from Mauritius! I'm baffled by how similar your dalpuri resembles ours - and how we eat it same as you too... If ever you come to Mauritius some day, you'll find it sold as a very common street food, rolled with the cari (cooked vegetables) and chilli paste, in almost every corner. So, we share many many things in common with you and Seychelles too... that's marvellous! Great work, keep it up!
Ultimately, we all came from India, or Pakistan. Dalpuri is also the same in Canada, and the USA. We all love the common culture. Long live our Indian ancestary.
Just too perfect. It was an ecstasy to see somebody to cook with confidence. Especially when your mom used her hand for measurements she just reminded so much of my mom. Whatever i can do it in an hour my mom does it in 5 min and the final product was always better than mine. Please post more of traditional recipes especially demonstrated by senior members of your family.
This is an absolute art!! Your mom’s hands are blessed with experience and Love of what she’s cooking. Thanks so very much for sharing this. I will make this and post it so your mom can see !! Thanks again!!
thank goodness the only person who shows the ground dhal being cooked/dried after grinding. For those too afraid to tackle the dhal you can get it already cooked and ground in the local supermarkets now, just ready for filling into your dough.
