  • This recipe makes 7 Rotis.
    6 cups split - this gives me extra to freeze
    1 tbsp turmeric
    few leaves bandania / culantro
    2 sprigs curry leaves
    2 habanero peppers chopped
    8 cloves garlic chopped
    ------------------
    4 cups AP flour
    1 tbsp + 1 tsp baking powder
    1/8 tsp baking soda ( this has been adjusted from 1 tsp )
    2 1/4 cups hot water
    ------------------
    1 tbsp geera / roasted cumin
    2 tsp salt
    --------------
    1/2 cup oil

    I grind my boiled split peas with my Kitchen aid food processor; it grinds very finely, quickly, and much easier!

    Thanks for sharing this video. I used my griddle as I don't have a tawah. OMG this was my third attempt at making roti. Natasha your recipe was the best out of the three. I'm saving this video. My family loved it.

      Try mixing the flour softert dont press on it when you are mixing an dafter putting the dall filling leave it for about 5-8 minutes before you roll it out

    Mann... the video is good. I tried this method without baking soda. I think I got a sada roti with dhall. Will try again though. Good job explaining !

    I have tried it 2 times but when it's cold it gets hard very fas baking soda is kinda of a harsh rising agent dont. like it

    Love this video and love Dhalpuri Roti it's so delicious and very hard to find where I live so I'm going to try to make it myself! Is baking soda and baking powder the same thing or are they different?

      I've never tried with chick peas but it will be the same concept. Boil until tender not to soft. Process / grind and follow the steps as in this video.

    Ok…. I have wasted anywhere from 10 -20 pounds of flour over the years trying to make these without a single puff! I always end up with a giant hard biscuit in the end that I throw out. I am going to try your recipe and say a prayer!

    Very nice recipe .you belong to which country??? I m from Mumbai India. Same way we are making Sweet favourite known as Puran poli. We mix sugar or jagry with dal after boiling. Other wise it is same.
