Why is your white balance off? Did you use a third party to record on your iPhone?
I had an experience with my iPhone last December that really turned my head around. I have the iPhone 12 Max Pro. Three lenses. I was shooting an interview with the producer's mother, the subject of the doc, so my principal camera was on a tripod, and wired up. I needed to quickly move to shooting some B-roll. This involved the producer's mother and her aide who was going to clip her finger nails in the back bedroom. I just didn't feel like dealing with the interview camera so I thought I would pull out my iPhone.
The moment I started shooting with my iPhone I immediately had such a feeling of freedom, it really startled me. It's light, easy to manipulate, you can get the iPhone close into intimate proximity of people w/o giving the feeling that they are being overwhelmed with a large camera and lens, and you can simply touch the screen and change focal lengths instantly. What an utter joy.
I felt such a rush of freedom.
Which lenses?
I have to say, I am so glad I didn't skip ahead to just the review. That was a really fun intro using the iPhone 14. Wow!
I bet it must be liberating, you just reach into your pocket, take out the phone and start shooting. No rigging up, carrying unnecessary gear. That WB though, and digital sharpness, very off-putting. Thanks for the video Mark!

I think the iPhones fit nicely into my productions. I’ve used them in Congo when I didn’t want to raise too much attention. And once in Nicaragua, when the government confiscated my whole kit, but left me with my phone. Those who shun the idea of an iphone, forget that getting the shot is the most important aspect to the gear, and this can get it done when the big guns fail. Nice Video as usual Mark

Hi Mark, there are cell phones with a 1 inch sensor that produce good images in low light. It would be interesting to make a comparison between the iPhone 14 and the Xiaomi 12S and the Ultra Xperia Pro I.

@@Agui86 I seen a few test it on UA-cam and you do lose 10bit unfortunately and I’ve run a test since my self and with a HDR conversion Lut to rec 709 I can see a difference in HDR and HDR turned off you also losing dynamic range
@@DANMCMAHON08 Good to know. Thanks. I guess it matters if you use the standard camera app but in cases where I shoot something for class I use the BeastCam app which allows me to use 10-bit with or without HDR. But it’s good to know for quick shooting which one will use 10-bit 👍🏼
When im recording a video with the main lense then get up close to something the macro is enabled, BUT when I move back out to use the main lense the macro mode doesnt switch back to the main lense leaving things pretty blurry. any thoughts?

Can you do 60fps cinematic mode?
Still haven’t found a mainstream review of iPhone’s video capabilities that mentions the variable frame rate recording. Seeing audio drift in and out of sync with the person talking in iPhone footage is horrible and makes it impossible for professional use. I do badly want to be able to record even a 15 second clip of a person talking on screen where I’m not just completely distracted by the lips moving out of sync with the audio.
Also Premiere’s color management is years behind Resolve’s. In fact, Premiere’s color tools for HDR aren’t even really usable. Resolve’s color management is complicated if you aren’t familiar with it but once you know your way around it would make quick work of handling the HLG footage to make the colors look correct.
Hi Mark, thank you for the review and sharing your thoughts. Could the iphone 14 pro be considered as Bcam for interview shoots - one man band setup, especially now that it has prores and 10bit? I got one main camera and am thinking about keeping light and within reasonable budget to make short interviews and get this iphone to use as Bcam /telephoto lens/. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks
Probably not. I wouldn’t recommend it unless everything is being shot on iPhone

Great video, but sadly I feel like this iPhone was a let down in the video department, for photos i'm loving the new 48megapixel sensor except for the minimum focus distance which is pretty bad. But when it comes to video I feel like the skin tones look really bad, yellow and flat, and the over sharpening just makes it imposible to mix iPhone shots with DSLR shots because it's very noticeable and cheap looking, even the new GoPro has a more natural look and less sharpening.
14 or 15? Pro or Pro Max? Which do you recommend?
Bro, I'm about to pull the trigger on the Pro Max but, could you tell me if 256gb will be enough or I should take the Pro with 512gb? I shoot UA-cam videos primarily on Iphones with the Filmic Pro LogV2 in 4k, and will be willing to make use of the Pro res thing as well. Do you think 256gb will be enough for that kind of application? I found both around the same price here in a local shop.
Also, for everyday use and convenience pro or pro max?

Glad they've been slowly improving the camera specs, but I'm not updating my 12 Pro Max until they kill off the lightning port for universal USB-C and give the phone experience some new features. Same thin for the iPad Pro - these small iterations are just really annoying and obvious annual money grab.
