- Reviewing Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max after long term use, to see how the camera tech, gaming, battery life etc compares vs the Pixel 7 Pro, Samsung S23 Ultra and more. The iPhone 14 Pro Max still costs from £1200 in the UK, so it's one of the most expensive smartphones despite its age.
However, Apple's slab is still one of the best for video capture, even if the camera isn't as dependable in softer light. The Galaxy S23 Ultra trumps the iPhone 14 Pro Max for night photography, as does the Pixel 7 Pro and Xiaomi's super-priced phones.
Another highlight is the battery life. This brick can keep going all day even with heavy use, including lots of camera play and a bit of gaming. Again, the Samsung S23 Ultra is a close rival, but not many Android flagship smartphones are this good. Shame about the iPhone 14 Pro Max's charging speeds then.
Media fans will love the crisp and bold display, minus the silly 'dynamic island' shenanigans, plus that loud and crisp stereo speaker setup. Apple's iOS16 is something I don't get on with, but plenty of people out there prefer it to Android, so it's all down to personal taste.

"Isn't it unbelievable? Nowadays, there's hardly anything left in the world that adheres to the old-fashioned 4:3 aspect ratio. Remember those square tube televisions? Well, who in their right mind would use one of those to view their iPhone images these days? Even when you rotate an iPhone screen horizontally to "landscape" mode, it still doesn't match the 4:3 ratio. So, why on earth does Apple insist on making it the default setting for capturing photos with their supposedly "high-end" camera?"
Now that I'm looking at his photos, it doesn't even fill half of the screen.

I have the 14 pro max for just about 4.5months. The size does not bother me much as I come from a samsung note 9 which is pretty much the same size. For my usage the battery life has been amazing. And the dynamic island has not been a big issue, yeah its not nicest thing ever but i dont mind it much. For me it was a absolute perfect phone so far. I chose the 256gb version as with my experience 128gb is just not enough especially if i want to record high resolution videos. Charging speeds dont really bother me as if i really need it the fast charging is enough for me as i only use it when I really need it in the morning where i usually have 30to45min which is more than enough to charge it from 40% to well into the 85+% which is plenty for me as i have plenty of charging options always as i always cary a external charger if i have to leave my home or office for longer than 4hours
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has been solid for me so far. I have my usual iOS annoyances, but that battery life is really what shines for me. 🤷🏽♂️
I’ve had my iPhone 14 Pro Max for about 4 months now I upgraded from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 14 pro max and I’m actually really loving it so far battery life is definitely a big upgrade for me and from switching from the S21 ultra back to IOS is honestly so much better for me I missed it and im glad im back in the apple ecosystem

Just upgraded from a Xs max I had for almost five years. It’s better than that. The sound out of the speakers and camera alone are a major upgrade.

I struggle with iOS and being tied into a seemingly greedy bar steward ecosystem where you get shafted for even the simplest, things like a charging cable. Like you, I love the Lidar face unlock and reckon that's as good (if not the best) as anything on the market). Another simple thing I love is the power button feel. The phones do feel like premium products (as you'd expect at their silly prices) even if they're unwieldy, but hate iOS's limitations.
I juggle between Nova Launcher 8 (Beta), Smart Launcher, Niagara Launcher and Microsoft Launcher on Android phones. Nova Launcher and its custom gestures on a Pixel are revolutionary and a game changer. Despite all the weaknesses and irritations of the Pixel, it's harder and harder to switch back to a non-gesture controlled phone, whether it's the clumsy iOS or another Android.

Take the 14 pro or the pro max, the only dilemma is the battery, can the pro push through the whole day or is it safer to take the pro max (I'm leaning towards the pro model because of the looks, but the pro max because of the battery)

Watching this on my iPhone 14 pro! I went with the 1TB storage and the gold version. I found that the max was just too big to hold for me personally! Absolutely love the 14 pro as came from a IPhone XS

This version is my very first iphone.
Was user android ever, never can afford an apple.
But only a month ago, I decided to invest in this iphone as i need it for business.
And man oh man, i never be so happy with a phone. Its just so solid looking & the ios is really really effective compared to android

Where you can find those anime wallpapers?
Currently running pixel 6 pro and i phone 14 pro. Like aspects of both tbh. Android gestures seem better, left to right swipe nearly always goes back whereas on iOS sometimes does, sometimes it's a top down and other needs a top left back icon press. Cameras might be ok on iPhone but deep fusion not great, trends to brighten aspects that don't need it whilst leaving shadows too dark.
I prefer the size though of the 14 pro and i wish the pixel would offer a similar size without loosing the optical zoom.
Shortcuts are interesting on ios, can be quite creative but takes some working out.
iPhones are fine, prefer the pixel but, i do find myself still reaching for the iPhone now and again. Just seems to have an addictive pull about it.
Interesting, when I've had iPhones in the past, I didn't feel an addictive pull from it, but there were some apps that are WAY better implementations, then the Samsung/Google equivalent that almost made the "Apple Premium price" worth it.

I just got the iPhone Pro Max 14. Upgraded from the XR and I think the kidney bean is useful. If you use food delivery apps like Uber eats/ door dash etc. it gives you real time estimate of food arrival so you’re not constantly having to track your order. 10/10 I love that feature!

The S23 Ultra is just as big and heavy as the iPhone 14 PM but with those palm piercing sharp corners which make it look and feel like a tablet. I'm an android man at heart but I always have an iPhone to hand....just in case.
The 14 PM is 6 grams heaver than the S23U

I’ve had different iPhones for years and the 14 Pro Max is the first one I’ve had where I’ve experienced bad screen scratches 😬
I just grabbed an 8 plus, an old work phone they were throwing away, and it took about a week before I got a glass screen protector.
The amount of scratches is unreal, I forgot how soft older phone screens were.
As screens get more shatter resistant, they tend to be more prone to scratches. Not a problem if you have a screen protector tho. Also the recent Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is very scratch resistent

Had mine for a couple months it’s definitely a great phone I’ve experienced a few bugs but nothing major overall I’ll be happy for another year excellent battery camera display and performance
have you ever tried something lighter or u er one of the only-iphone buyer?
Just bought this phone less than 2 weeks ago and it gets warm on the left side of the camera (if you’re facing the screen) even though I’m just scrolling through web or just watching Instagram reels, nothing power demanding. It doesn’t get hot “hot” but it does kinda get warm. Anyone here having the same issues?
No mine normally gets warm when I charge it that’s about it.

Get the Samsung s24 if you want the most out of a phone. I'm not an expert but as far as i know iphones are just over rated and expensive. 🤔

I've bought a 14 pro max 512gb to replace my 11 pro max 512gb but returned it and kept the 11. The new digital island is a disaster imo. The old notch on the 11 is on top of the screen and the new one is farther down in the screen and that bothered me a lot.
Will be replacing my 11 when there is no notch at all anymore.
Also the square design is uncomfortable to hold when you are used to the more rounded sides of the 11 pro max. Speed wise I don't miss the 14 pro max at all.
Ah well hopefully the Iphone 16 pro max will bring a bit of 11 pro max magic back else I'll just keep on waiting.

Hey Spurt I have a question for ya i'm Hoping to buy the 14PM but i don't know what to choose really The 23U or the 14PM i'm Gamer and i like to take photos ,I need a smooth AF phone plus for long term use
I have both the iphone 14pm and the s23u and I prefer the s23ultras camera for photos and gaming, I slightly prefer the i14pm for video shooting but just slightly. The s23u performs better in gaming it has better cooling and a more powerful gpu than the iphone 14pm. Both great devices but gaming I'd use the s23u. Both are smooth and ive had no issues with my s23u but have had to soft reset my iphone 14pm a few times due to the bugs ios was having. Cheers on whatever you decide.

The biggest problem with iOS on a huge phone, is how user unfriendly it is for one handed use. Pull down from the top right for control center, top left for “notifications.” No multitasking, horrible navigation. Using 13 mini n pixel 6a. Will never buy a big iPhone until they make it user friendly. Peace.
Using this thing one handed is probably harder than Dark Souls
I can swipe down just to the left of the little cell service mountain and get notifications. Don’t have to reach all the way across the screen. Yes it’s still a big phone though.
