This video is so fresh I be you UA-cam does even have it in 4K yet! Also here's that playlist: tinyurl.com/musicbedMBplaylist As well, please note these tips are not exclusive to the Fx30, rather, we shot this entire video, and the b-roll on the Fx30
DANG, THOSE TWISTER SHOTS ARE EPIC! Also, Lewis is a gem!
Yeah they are killer bro 😘😘😘
Tip #3 with the sticky notes is awesome. loved seeing this
It's funny back when I was a lead artist at Microsoft, my buddy the art director would tell me "David, its felt not seen" in regards to using slight gradients, highlights, tonal shifts, color in ways you can only see if you flip a layer on and off 15 times but it really changes how you feel about something if it has more yellow or more green in it. If the edges are slightly darkened or lit.
Absolutely. Your audience will always remember how they felt more than any other element in the film
listening and editing the interviews. its SO incredibly overlooked and it is what will TRULY set you apart as an editor. It is so incredibly overlooked and people tend to just loose their patience in this phase.
MUCH appreciated video right here! Best wishes.
"I don't care about b-roll" BONUS TIP: how to get fired. LOL. Love the tips guys!
Haha. That was a real moment
Great tips you guys! Really appreciate you sharing 🙏
Thanks ya’ll
9:33 EXACTLY !
B Roll is way more effective when it illustrate what is said on the interview.
Documentary and content director working on video game and esport industry here
Show don’t tell as they say
I laughed probably harder than I should have at the scam message bit. Classic, well done!
Glad someone got it
And after watching this video practice practice practice Thank you mark for always bringing us these videos they are always packed with knowledge something that has inspired my UA-cam channel videos
Editing doc is so rewarding!! It’s so cool seeing the story come together in different ways than you expect:)
💯💯💯
Nice meeting you Lu. Great tips fr. If not the best I've heard in a while.
Your subtitle made me click, haha. Valid points thank you 🙏
Starting with the audio is absolutely key. I think editing for my church prepped me well in that regard, having to cut an hour+ service into two 28:30 segments. Now when I edit interviews for my client, I’m trimming and getting to the gist of the story before adding on all the b-roll he sends.
That bit of using only the bare minimum to tell your story. I’m remember another youtuber calling that, “under your darlings.”
And building a playlist before you start not a bad idea.
Couldn’t agree more how you approach music and sound. We should really start with the sound in mind from the beginning.
Yeah your audience will always remember how they felt when you make a film.
I edit a lot of cats videos. But because I never set a roadmap, I always end up shuffling the footage in the middle of edit to try create a story out of nothing. Glad someone mentions about roadmap. I’ll make sure I will do the roadmap, after watching every footage, before actually editing.
1000% Editing Audio as A Roll first, agree completely. It's one big reason I started leaning a little more on Descript to transcribe all my interviews, but more importantly, I now start my first radio edit there as well. Build a database of the interview content, and bounce an XML from the linked interviews for my first story edit with broll after what feels like a solid start to the radio edit all pulled together in Descript.
Yeah, I get too distracted with B-roll 😂
@@markbone Honestly, I agree, I've been editing full time now in Resolve and sometimes get really distracted with colour grading and mixing now too.... so I'll jump into Descript for the story edit and disable the video and just listen to the audio sometimes. And I can take my laptop anywhere and treat it like a writing session instead. Kind of freeing in a sense.
I will lay out the last scene first if I need to make sure the timing of the music is right so certain things become blocks, that way I'm editing around these blocked out scenes. Love to hear that Lewis starts with the voice - lock down your a-roll and then flavor it with the b-roll, wrap it and support it. Love it.
Camera movement should be added to the list of feeling.
💯
Lewis is a legend! Mark dropping complete fire every video my brain cant keep up
😂 Lewis is a legend
This was awesome! Laughed so hard at the pool scene lmao. Where are y'all in TX? Is that lake conroe? Great video Mark!
We were fort worth area. Back home now
Can't wait for Clear Sky!
Me too 😅
Loved that 'telegram' moment.. It had me rollin 🤣
Glad some people got that!
Excellent shots
Mark thanks for all the helpful videos!!! Really appreciate it man🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥
You’re so welcome!
I think the first tip is really important, especially if you're the one person shooting and editing, it can be hard to not use a clip that you spent time and effort getting
Yeah it’s the toughest when it’s your own footage
I shot a one day doc 2 weeks ago. I had to part with the shot that took me longest to get. It wasn't an easy decision and now I don't even want to touch that project 😂😂😂😂 I fear for my heart 🤣
thank you for the video! Super helpful tips and will definitely try to get some going on our next videos especially the edit for what is felt tip. LOVE it!
Cool to hear from your editor, thanks guys. Great advice here.
Yeah Lou G is a legend!
This is super useful. Thanks guys. Really short and meaningful.
A ten minute masterclass. Thanks so much!
A LOT of great tips here! Awesome stuff!!
This video is just a gem. Thanks Mark! Thanks Lewis!
Thanks mate!
GREAT video!! Tip 2 about music… For me, Music is the best part about putting a video together and the worst hahaha (time consuming to find music).
Thanks for Sharing! Great Tips!
Loved the video!! Great tips!!! 👌👌 I was wandering if you could make a video on file management? (Both in premiere and on your hard drive) That would be awesome!!! Thanks 🙏 🙏 🙏
Logical practical approach and it works well for me, too! Nice job. Thanks you guys! Love from Atlanta.
Thanks Don!
Great vid Marky Mark and Lewie G! I loved the roadmap part before even diving into the edit, and also the idea of listening to voices first. Something I struggle with is audio selection and mapping out that emotion in a video with that. Would love to see a vid diving deeper into music selection and tips on that.
informative 10min video.
Thank you John!
great tips! thanks for showcasing the structure behind the edits and tips
Lew is a legend!
Thanks Mark, Lewis❤❤
🙏🏻♥️
Thanks i needed to hear this right now! 🙏
🙏🏻
Another Gold 👌🔥
That shot when you say "watch all your footage" is really accurate hahah :P
Haha. I am too ADHD
@@markbone Same haha!
Thought this would be just another “shooting tips video” with the same old. Quite impressed, very good insights thank you guys for your nuggets
Glad you took the risk watching it!!
Excellent video thank you
My pleasure
This was fantastic!

Holy f*ck those tornado shots look freaking epic!! Coolest shots I’ve seen in quite some time 😮
Yeah they are a vibe!
love your Videos bro and the Masterclass is amazing!!!!!
Thanks David! Are you a part of AOD?
@@markbone Yes,I'm watching all the videos right now. simply awesome!
Thx again guys🤙🏼🍿😄
You’re so welcome
"Oh Hi Mark" ❤😂 #theroom
Got so excited about the tornader chaser doc when I saw the footage I've literally jump out of my chair. Can't wait for this bad mama jama to be released 🔥
Cannot wait to release it. When that will be. I’m not sure 😅
YO, I'm hear too! Would love to link!!! Love your work.
Awesome tips and great video guys! Already know what mistakes I made in my recent edit. But hey, it was the first ever ;) And yes. Music is incredibly important!
Thanks for watching Dawid
Just watched a video of a house builder...very few subs. Then I saw the post it white board.... Then chased a rabbit in the yard.
When I got back, I had another idea for a movie. (Goes to show, hanging out with positive people and a fast rabbit pays dividends)
I need Lewis to start a channel now too haha! Thanks guys!
Yessss!!
Editing a doc now & making the decisions what is important to the story? aghhhhhhh gotta put in the time...
🙏🏻
the telegram joke 🤣
i fall for that and really tought i was talking to you for some minutes. ☺
You had a documentary in my home country, Haiti 😁😍❤
That country is special to me
@@markbone 😊❤️
"oh hi mark!" lol

Lovely and very inspiring information. I just got a information that I have won an fx30 and wanted my passport info. Is this right?
What I got from this: Never edit your last scene first and kill your darlings (B-roll)
Fx30 looks really great! What lens were you primarily using?
So far only the 16-35
Always tough when I get done with the "radio edit" and then realize our most stunning b-roll is not relevant to my A-roll. Absolutely heartbreaking.
It truly is. We are there right now with our tornado film
So true. But this is where you can take advantage of the credit sequence and throw them there (if you have one that is).
When do we get a tutorial on how to get hair like Lewis?
Dang. I’ve been asking him for this for years
😂😂😂
Thanks for these tips!! Super helpful!
Recently I’ve also started by editing the interviews. Cutting out the fat, reducing, reducing, reducing. Only once I have those down to their core, I can see where the edit needs to go. And usually it’s quite different from when and how I shot the b-roll.
Yeah just cut everything down until the gold is left
I have Fx3 but fx30 is good for a little setup
I have the fx3 also, but I’ll let you know if the Fx30 is my new camera once I get a 12mm lens for vlogging
A little confused. I think he says he watches through all the footage first and creates a roadmap, but does he listen to the audio of the interview first? I think I got mixed up
fx30 everywhere 🤯🤣
Lol. People want to see that footage!!
He said "Oh Hi Mark". He was wrong. He should have said, "Oh, hey Mark". The famous line :D
“I DID NAAAAAT”
Was that Denki Groove in the background?
🤷♂️
I prefer using whatsapp when I spam people for money as mark bone
😂✌️😂
Why is it that I’m impressed by the tips, but the moment he mentioned he‘s editing with premiere pro his competence gets a dent 😕
But anyways thanks for the tips (thankfully they work on good software too 😉)
Haha -if he is this good now, imagine what he will do with DaVinci Resolve
when it comes to editing it's all about the finished product, not the tools!
I gotta agree with Lewis on this one. The Resolve crowd is starting to sound like the bitter Fuji XTI camera users who always remind us the specs of the cameras… but in the end they all shoot mediocre stories.
@@markbone sure, great stories are the most important thing. But why insist on using crappy software? Imagine how this could improve your storytelling. I‘ve been animating with after effects for the past 15 years. But if there was a viable alternative I’d change in an instant
I'm not penny-wise, but Musicbed is freaking expensive with your free trial too. :/ But thank you.
Guys can u pls advice some good transitions packs? I need like one-two good packs with cool transitions for all life. Please guys recommend smth!
No idea. Maybe someone in the comments can help. I have never really used transitions. To me they’re a bit over used at the moment! But to each their own
Who cares?
@@rsmith02 do u have any traditions? I mean cool transitions
@@markbone exactly Mark, I also think of making my small uni doc without any transitions! But I almost feel obligated to use them like smth in myself tells to put them, BUT do I really need them? I noticed lots of movies don’t use any transitions at all! So what to do….

SPOILER: Another sponsored video, at least it’s not another AOD plug
Lol.

Lewis, block out the haters bro! Acting Skillz🤌🤌 * chef‘s kiss*
😂
Thanks a whole heap again guys telling the story has so many facets that sculpt the approach to the final cut I’m constantly impressed with your knowledge and it’s affects on us and what we do ,bloody brilliant cheers
