    Before you do this simply unplug the thin ribbon from the screen where it goes into the board below it. My screen has not worked in more then a year. I just took it out and started to take the screen off but changed my mind when I saw he had to heat it up to get it off. However I did disconnect the flat ribbon plug from the screen. When I put it back together it WORKS! So it could simply be a bad connection, just re seat the touchscreen ribbon and try it.

    Your video worked perfectly for a 2009 Prius. Extra care should be taken with the screen connection. The connector slides outward and upward to release the ribbon connection. The new connector slips in, the connector snaps down and slides back.

    Nice work on this. Mine is coming out and I have the replacement screen from Amazon on hand. Now watching this how-to helps me understand a little more. Thank you

    Thank you for this very useful video. If you don't mind, I add an information for Frenchies (already in english-speaking comments)
    Pour dé/connecter l'écran, il faut faire glisser le connecteur parallèlement à la carte électronique, vers le haut pour débrancher, vers le bas pour connecter.

    K, took me 3 hours but I figured it out. thanks for the help on this. some notes
    1. I probably overheated my screen because it discolored :( That glue is super tough, I think I would have chosen the hottest day of the year and hoped that softened the glue enough next time.
    2. my screws on the final guard would NOT come out. I dremeled the sides down to the point that I could get a wrench/pliers on them and twist.
    3. speaking of screws, those four screws holding the electronics to the plastic are actually 2 screws on top and 2 bolts on bottom :D
    4. don't forget to put the metal frame that goes on top of the other metal frame back on :D and push it ALL the way down so you don't have a big gap between plastic and screen assembly.
    5. Wish I had tried the simple unplug/plug trick before trying to remove the screen. In any case I did test removing the entire screen chassis first then plug it all back in and no luck, so it would be very lucky if this simple fix worked for me. In any case, the plastic connector for the ribbon is one that locks in place only when pushed back again, so don't just push the ribbon in, push the plastic connector back and toward the electronics board to lock it in place again

      update - I'm thinking the discoloration is because I bought thew cheapest screen money can buy, and the back screen is fine. Still recommend doing this on a hot day

    That was AWESOME! i did it! I missed the part where i need to push this little brown plastic that holds down the screen cable, so i needed to open again cause the touch screen wouldnt work, but i did it again and its sooooo easy i cant believe it....
    How about you show us how to change the inner screen next time? You know...the black screen which cracks from the sun and the heat....good job mate!!!

    Great Video! Just subbed your channel! BTW your brave to disassemble that unit while still sitting in the car! I would rather do that fine surgical work sitting at my desk where I would not worry about a screw falling down between the seats! Thanks again very detailed and great content!

    what size are the two bolts holding the MFD in plqce? Both fell into the plastic cowling under the radio.

    Our touchscreen is completely non responsive in our 2009. Would this replacement video do the trick you think? If so, where did you get the touchscreen replacement? Thank you for the detailed video.

    I cannot believe you did this in the driver's seat - I would have recommended you take it to the bench - I have 2004 Prius Gen II - WILL THIS WORK PERFECTLY for mine? Mine does not have Navigation - it is the 4 button MDF variety. Thanks

    Would this fix a yellowed screen (sun baked)? Or is that a separate part? Thanks!

    I'm having issues with my digitizer as well, and I got a replacement, but I honestly need a new LCD screen. It's faded really bad, and I don't know where to find one. Any suggestions? It's a 2006 Prius.

    How do you know if you need to replace the MFD or just the glass? Thanks!

    • @samuelfisher6743
      @samuelfisher6743 5 місяців тому +2

      I would say if the mfd still displays correctly, but no touch registers, then its a glass problem. If the mfd itself doesn't turn on, its the screen problem

    • @emilyvanhorn2559
      @emilyvanhorn2559 5 місяців тому

      thank you so much for responding. The display looks fine and touch responds but doesn't correspond to the buttons correctly. Hopefully just the glass?@@samuelfisher6743

    If i can see the screen partially in the daytime and gets better at night time. would the be an issue with just the outer screen replacement or would that be the actual internals of the display?

    • @samuelfisher6743
      @samuelfisher6743 5 місяців тому

      that sounds like an internals problem to me

  • @raelphhoughton6554

    How did you know screen was problem and not MFD unit?

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  7 місяців тому +1

      IPO: Input Process Output. The problem can be in any one of these three stages. There's not a lot of testing you can do. I assumed the unit was fine because it turned on the output it thought I was touching. It increased temperature because it thought I was touching that button. That's why I thought it was an input issue, the digitizer was sending the wrong information to the processor. I could have been wrong but the screen was cheap enough to try.

      I just tried it.
      The 2006 car got 3 connectors and the 2004 screen uses 4 connections.
      My 2006 screen got 4 buttons on the front.
      The 2004 got 7 buttons.
      On the left is display,info,climate,audio.
      In the right is menu,dest,map.
      My 2004 radio got navigation and Bluetooth.
      I installed the 2004 screen which uses 4 connections into my 2006 which uses 3 connections because no navigation.
      It's working fine except for the Bluetooth and navigation
