That is so beautiful!!!! I love that!!! It seems so do-able. It doesn't seem complicated. Thank you so much for taking the time to share these videos. I love the way you explain. I love your hands. They remind me of my grandmother's hands, even though you are my age. I also love your cute accent. Both of my grandmothers had accents too. I miss them so much.
After reading some these comments I can't understand why some folks are so rude. I made a scarf using this stitch, added some fringe on the ends and I love it. Will make several more for gifts. Joanne your videos are great and very clear. Next project is the Infinity 8, Thanks
Hi, thank you for the video of this beautiful stitch. I was also concerned with how to begin from the cast on row. I've read the advice you gave other subscribers but because I am a visual person I would need to 'see' how it is done. Could you possibly do another video showing how to start + 2 rows please. It would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
This is my first time watching your videos and your instructions are so clear! I have been knitting since I was seven and always want to try something different. You sound so sweet, I just had to subscribe 🌹Thank you!
You cast on with color #1. Start the pattern (row 1) with color #2. (Unless you want to knit 2 rows with color #1 as a base). You change colors every 2 rows.
I am a little confused, and was looking for a written pattern. Do I cast on with both colors, or knit the first two rows with color #1 and add in color #2 later? I would appreciate the details. I love the way this swatch looks, and really want to make one. Thanks!
I tried watching a simple crochet video and this knitting one and both go faster than my eyes can grasp the movements. I would imagine most people watching this would be beginners. It would be helpful to slow down when going through each motion until UA-cam creates a slow motion button.
Im not a beginner. Its not obligatory for people to make begginwr friendly videos, and we dont all like or want them because its tedious for people wanting to read a book to be taught the alphabet at the beginning if each one. Now you have another perspective :)
@@wiwoods4me thank you. Slowing down helps. I can't hear sound when I have it go slow but I can follow it much better. I appreciate helpful comments. They make the world a happier place 😊
I am new to knitting and want to make this into a scarf. I haven't gotten a hang of written instructions yet and am really confused on how I cast on and start this project.
+Heather Schmidt Cast on with any color and knit 2 rows. Change to other color yarn and start with your pattern. The instructions are below the video. Here they are: www.joannesweb.com This a variation of the Moss Stitch but with 2 colors. Quite easy to follow. Use bigger needles than the yarn calls for. Instructions Multiple of 2 plus 1 K.- Knit wyif.- With yarn in front wyib.- With yarn in back 1.- K1, *slide 1 purlwise, k1* 2.- K1, *wyif, slide 1 purlwise, wyib k1* 3.- K2, *slide 1 purlwise, k1* end with k1. 4.- K2, *wyif, slide 1 purlwise, wyib k1* end with k1.
Could you please, please show the cast on. I know how to cast on, that's not the problem. How do you cast on with the two colors and how many stitches? Do you cast on with both together? I don't understand the comment below where it says cast on with one color and pick up the other one. I really want to see this from the very beginning.
Above you say cast on with a color and then knit two rows before adding the new color... Here you say add the second color right after the cast-on. ???
I love this but I’m confused on how to cast the two colors on. Do you have a video on how to start this pattern in this video? You make this sound so simple but want to start it correctly!!
OK. What do you want to know about them? They come in metal, plastic and bamboo. All sizes thick and you will find different lengths, depending on how big around you want your project. You need enough stitches to go arround and connect with the stitches on the other side needle.
JoannesWeb Hello, how do i start the 2nd color on the 3rd row? do i just make a slip knot and then where do i add the 2nd color to the needles? i am a beginner and I want to try this stitch because it is pretty. I just need a little help w/t 2nd color? how to add it in? thank you
Dear Joannes yes this is really pretty. But how did you cast on ? With the two colours together or on what row did you get the lighter colour into the work please. Thank you for All your beautiful samples
I also have a question for Joanne. At the very beginning of this pattern and just after you have cast on in the first color how can you do the first row in two colors when there is only one color? What I mean is this, how can you slip the second color when it is not fully knitted onto the knitting needles? When I look at the swatch in the video as far as I can tell there seem to be two rows of knitting after casting on with the first color of dark blue. Then there seems to be the light color blue after this mixed in with the dark color blue, however, when looking at this swatch it seems as if the light blue is in-between the dark blue. This is where the confusion lies, on the 3rd row. However, I seem to think I now know how this is. You start this 3rd row with the dark blue and then you begin to knit in the light blue on this row and you proceed from here. Please let me know if this is correct. I will look at this video again to see if I am right as well. But you need to work on writing out your instructions more clearly as well. You are a really good knitter but your instructions need to be written down carefully and clearly otherwise this also adds to the confusion.
You cast on with one color. When you use the next color, you knit one stitch and pass the next. This will automatically give you the 2 alternate colors on your right needle.
I don't know why this is the standard way of putting it when, as you have found, it is so confusing. Why not just say "cast on an odd number of stitches"?
Because they're starting from the middle and not showing the setup row or even if there is one. It doesn't even say if it's a two color cast on or a one color or what. It's very aggravating. I'm going to see if I can find instructions for this somewhere else.
I think this might also be called "Two Color Granite Stitch". So, cast on color 1. row 1: (ws) knit all stitches row 2: pick up color 2 and start pattern in this video (like at 3:08 )
Joanne, do you know how to work the hexagon stitch? "Woolandthegang" have a video poorly made, but the don't say how many stitches are required for this. I love the way it looks but, I have no idea how many stitches are required. I want to knit a blanket with it, I love your videos because you make knitting so very easy for us new to knitting. Thank you for your time.
Okay, I have now gone back to the video and it is still confusing. How can you slip a stitch that has not been knitted? When I look at the light blue there is no way that this has been first knitted as part of the second row because both rows after the cast on show dark blue and not one dark blue and then the other light blue. People like me love this stitch but it is very frustrating when it is not fully explained. You seem to be the only one on UA-cam and on the Internet who knows about this stitch so it would be nice and kind of you to do this video again showing from the beginning how it is all started. As you can see from the comments below I am not the only one who feels this way. So please do this as a favor to me and all those others who want this new video to be done. Many Thanks in advance! June.
It would be nice to not bite the hand that feeds you 🙄, , but I agree it would have been much clearer if the video had begun with cast on and ended with bind off.
It would be nice if you understood who feeds who. These tutorials are made to generate advertisement income. People make UA-cam videos, if lots of people view these tutorials then it attracts advertisers who pay to advertise on their videos. I think I am entitled to be annoyed .... as you rightly say, it would be much clearer if the video had begun with cast on and ended with bind off. I will look to someone who makes clearer more informative videos next time.
I dont understand why you dont begin with the cast on. People who are new to knitting will not understand why there work is not turning out like yours. I think if you cannot be kind enough to answer their questions i will be unsubscribing.
Do you mean metallic? I use them all the time. I prefer them, since the stitches slide better. For beginners, I recommend bamboo needles. If you mean circular needles, I use them a lot too. For everything, not only for circular projects. (You don't lose a needle this way).

Not complicated at all. Take your time and challenge yourself. Go for it!

I love that stich you splain so nice it is possible tha can you show how to do in crotchet hook? Thank you so much
We'll try to fit it in!
What a beautiful stitch! Is there a way to do it in the round?
Yes. You just need to place a market where the "row" starts and make row #2 the opposite as what it shows. That is, you purl instead of knit.
I really love this, but I can;t get start,Please show how to do from the beginning. Thank you
+Thida Da Cast on with the first yarn. Start your first row with the other yarn.

I casted on with the dark color and alternated the yarns
muy bonito
It would help if she started at the cast on!.
You start with row 1 as soon as you have the required number of stitches mounted on your needle.
Thank you for every vıdeo..I liked all of them.
In row 3, you said end on k2 but in written instructions you wrote ending k1. Which is correct? I really hate making swatch but I guess I have to.
Dawnette Mckenzie Row 3: end with k2. I will correct the instructions. Thank you very much for calling it into my attention. I appreciate it!
Thank you for the clarification. I have every intention of making a blanket.
could you please tell me how to cast on for this project, as I am a bigginner and I don't know how to work with two colours! thanks! :)
+mukta more You start with casting on with any color. On the next row, you start with your stitch as explained.
I also have a question for Joanne. At the very beginning of this pattern and just after you have cast on in the first color how can you do the first row in two colors when there is only one color? What I mean is this, how can you slip the second color when it is not fully knitted onto the knitting needles? On row 3: you knit 2 stitches at the beginning of the row, then pass.....
what is multiple of 2 plus 1? is that mean i have to repeat the no.2 with two times and 1 with one time eh?
***** Multiple of 2 plus one refers to the number of stitches. Example: 9 is 8(multiple of 2) plus 1=9
21 is 20(multiple of 2) plus 1= 21
I don't know why this is the standard way of putting it when, as you have found, it is so confusing. Why not just say "cast on an odd number of stitches"?
Would it be okay to use a bigger needle than the 10 for the same type of yarn?
Yes. You can use any size needle you wish. This stitch adjusts very nicely.
I love this stitch but I've watched this video several times and when I try this I just get vertical stripes. what am I doing wrong?
Because they're starting from the middle and not showing the setup row or even if there is one. It doesn't even say if it's a two color cast on or a one color or what. It's very aggravating. I'm going to see if I can find instructions for this somewhere else.

row 1: (ws) knit all stitches

Can I use a varigated yarn?
I find the variegated yarn to be too busy for a stitch like this.
@@JoannesWeb thank you for your sharing.🙏
What you could do though is make your Main Color - White and the Second Color - Variegated. The white would make the variegated POP. Or vice verse 😊
Your written instructions don't include the change of colors.

how ist beginn???
Cast on with any color and start your stitch with the same color or the next, as you wish.
