"It comes on this nice circular display" "You can taste the potato" "Its a really good chip" "It's a good chip" "It really good fish" This is just some of the great commentary and sentences said by our friends at food insider to really describe the fish n chips.

My wife and I were on holiday in London in August and decided to try The Golden Chippy based on your recommendation. It was a bit of a train ride from where we were staying near the Waterloo Station but we were there to see London so we enjoyed the trip out and back. We had a wonderful time. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and well worth the trip. Highly recommend for an authentic fish and chips experience. It's all they do and they do it superbly. We will definitely eat here again.
@@LeoWang24 I've tried fish&chips at Bonnie Gull SOHO in january and it really is a work of art. I would go back to London only to eat it again. It was a bit pricey, but definately worth it.
I am genuinely interested in watching these videos till the end but I can't get through more than 2-5 minutes without getting really annoyed of the hosts and leaving
The best fish & chips I ever had was from a street cart vendor downtown in 1973. Didn't pay more than 2 pounds and it was absolutely delicious, light & crunchy outside, pure white & flaky inside.
Except I believe from people in the know that the 'vinegar' the English put on their fish and chips isn't vinegar at all, it is a mixture of chemicals - don't shoot the Messenger but that is what I has been said by English people themselves - WHY I don't know????? I didn't think vinegar was that hard to come by. 🇦🇺🇦🇺😷😷🇦🇺🇦🇺
@@elainepearson4817 you've just watched that Tom Scott video. He's probably correct, but for all intents and purposes it's a pointless video because the 'vinegar' in chip shops tasted exactly the same as malt vinegar you would have at your house. Most people take fish and chips back home and eat it there so will add more real vinegar on when they get home.
Finally, not wasting food. Usually the hosts in other insider food episode each would get a plate. Im glad to see them sharing a plate instead of each getting a plate.
When you use “Fishiness” and “chippy”, then you definitely know your getting an A on that English exam, or a Grade 9 on your GCSE’s Honestly, how did these two get employed as hosts and food testers?!
I live in Barbados but lived four years in Perth, Western Australia and they are two foods that I miss. Aussie Meat Pies and English style Fish & Chips. Frankly, I would be really happy with any one of these in this video. Real happy.
My Granny Roberts made amazing English style fish and chips, halibut and cod were her top choices. She taught me many old style UK recipes her mother taught her, my F&C aren't too shabby either. Granny R was a baker most of all, pies, pastries, cakes etc. but she also made the best, freshest side salads, coleslaw, potato salad with deviled eggs & ham, creamy macaroni salad...I buy mine at the store now, it's not the same.
I would personally just pick up a piece of fish, douse it in some malt vinegar n tarter sauce n chow down but these hipsters are simply trying to show that the fish is flaky n tender. Well if it's cooked properly it always should be!!!
Amazing, so delicious, albeit partly rather expensive. Me as an Eastern European, I would definitely prefer the low-cost options. I cannot wait to travel for food again after covid.
@@kevinbaboolal4225 I'll take fresh mackerel or virtually fresh anything over old salmon. Old fish gets a bad smell like a stagnant lake and when that happens, it's not pretty.
Hi, I am from India. We don't have fish and chips culturally here, despite having loads of fisheaters, but I have had some at fancy places. My theory was that fish and chips was supposed to be quite a cheap snack kind of thing. I see costs of 11, 14, etc. GBP per plate...that's more than INR 1000, we ll get an amazing medium-rare filet mignon here for that price! Quite incredible. Fish n chips here cost about INR 250-300 (roughly 4-5 GBP) and we complain that it's costly!
I hate most fish dishes. But fresh fried fish is an exception. I guess I am too sensitive to the smell when fish starts to go bad. Would love to have these dishes here someday.

I watched almost all videos of Best In Town and here what I learn: UK Food Insider (UKFI) usually order one specific food/drink mentioned in the title, take few bite/sip of the food/drink, analyze it, continue to the next place, repeat and done. While US Food Insider (USFI) usually order the experiences: food, drink, side dish; then eat it, compare one another and argue each other in the wrong time, continue, repeat and done. UKFI come to a place to try their food, USFI come to a place to have their tummy full.
I thought when you eat a good plate of fish and chips, the plate will be clean after you are done. and you eat the whole fish, not leave anything behind. hate how you are just wasting loads of fish and how you can't get the whole flavor of the fish without eating that crust!!!
I personally loved my experience at Poppies. My two friends from Strasbourg came to London so I travelled down from Liverpool to meet them. They loved Poppies too. However, I only ever eat Haddock because I find Cod to be bland. With Poppies, however, I found their chips to be very ordinary and perhaps there were fried once and not double fried. Also, Poppies are very expensive by comparison. If you guys ever come to Liverpool, you need to drop by Chris' Chippy on Rose Lane, very close to Mossley Hill Station. Their batter is to die for.
Just thinking the same. Instead of eating the whole fish, they just destroy it using down layer a second dish (then why didnt call it HALF fish and chips???)
After going through a Food Tours marathon recently then seeing this video with Harry looking like NSync.. woo huge difference compared to the Mr. Rogers we have now! 🤣🤣🤣
Bonnke Gull looked really good but Golden Chippy is more true to the fish and chip experience. Although if you are in the UK then no way are you spending that much on a portion of fish and chips! A good cod and large chips should cost about £8 max!
I remember the first time me and my mother traveled to Malaysia back in 2001. There was a restaurant that served the best fish and chips (I don't remember what name or where the place was). The tartar sauce is a house recipe & the taste is brilliant. And that was the first time I ate fish chips. Hooked with fish and chips since then.

Golden Chippy wins it for me.🏆 I’m glad I’m not alone in being offended by the way they picked at the fish with their forks and left all that good batter behind on the plate like it was trash. At first, I thought they were just showing us the texture of the fish, which I appreciated. But they treated the batter like it was a banana peel. I’m surprised they didn’t throw it over their shoulders but seeing it left behind on the plate made me so sad. I still enjoyed the video and now I NEED Fish & Chips.

We will definitely eat here again.

the best thing i discovered when i traveled to great britain years ago was how good vinegar goes with fried food. i never use ketchup any more.

Also traditional Irish recipes, Granny R's family is from Tipperary in The Republic of Eire, Ireland isn't part of the UK.

Hi,
I am from India.
We're lucky in that regard
Yeah we don't have it regularly.. some upper mid to high end restaurants probably have it, but yeah it's not something you'll find easily in India
I hate most fish dishes. But fresh fried fish is an exception. I guess I am too sensitive to the smell when fish starts to go bad. Would love to have these dishes here someday.

I watched almost all videos of Best In Town and here what I learn:
UK Food Insider (UKFI) usually order one specific food/drink mentioned in the title, take few bite/sip of the food/drink, analyze it, continue to the next place, repeat and done.
While US Food Insider (USFI) usually order the experiences: food, drink, side dish; then eat it, compare one another and argue each other in the wrong time, continue, repeat and done.
UKFI come to a place to try their food, USFI come to a place to have their tummy full.
Her: "It's buttery and melts in your mouth."
Me: "But I want to chew my fish."
Nothing is melt in your mouth except cotton candy and liquid

I personally loved my experience at Poppies. My two friends from Strasbourg came to London so I travelled down from Liverpool to meet them. They loved Poppies too. However, I only ever eat Haddock because I find Cod to be bland. With Poppies, however, I found their chips to be very ordinary and perhaps there were fried once and not double fried. Also, Poppies are very expensive by comparison.
If you guys ever come to Liverpool, you need to drop by Chris' Chippy on Rose Lane, very close to Mossley Hill Station. Their batter is to die for.
I’ll keep that in mind when I visit !
I should have to conduct a complete scientific study of the question :D
Why can’t you eat like normal people 😂😂
Just thinking the same. Instead of eating the whole fish, they just destroy it using down layer a second dish (then why didnt call it HALF fish and chips???)
because they're not normal people

Bonnke Gull looked really good but Golden Chippy is more true to the fish and chip experience. Although if you are in the UK then no way are you spending that much on a portion of fish and chips! A good cod and large chips should cost about £8 max!

I remember the first time me and my mother traveled to Malaysia back in 2001. There was a restaurant that served the best fish and chips (I don't remember what name or where the place was).
