I own a 2016 1.4L Cruze and its treated me very well. I've put MILES on this thing so I love it. Got it at 36k and she's now sitting at 113k miles. She's ran great, minus common coolant system issues. I'll list all of the repairs I've made over the years below. I looked up Chevy Cruze videos and some gave me the great tip of "getting ahead of common issues/repairs and replace parts early to avoid future headaches", which is a GREAT idea. It'll cost a bit to DO IT ALL at once so take your time. But believe me, you will be happy you did. As I said most have been for the coolant system and so far I've vvvvvvv
Replaced the reservoir with the new, better Dorman reservoir.
    Replaced EVAP Purge Valve
New lower radiator hose, the thick hose that feeds from the radiator into the thermostat.
    The thermostat itself.
    Oxygen sensors, upstream & downstream.
    Coil pack & spark plugs.
    New, bigger battery.
All very easy fixes. Annoying but easy.
Parts were all from Dorman, ACDelco & Murray companies.
All purchased at Autozone, O'Reilly's or Amazon.
All well under $100 each too.
I hope this helps you and other Chevy Cruze owners!

This is similar to my list. I think I need a thermostat, I did the coil pack, oxygen sensors, new battery (not bigger) and in addition both front bearings between 60k and 75k miles.
Curious, at any time did your radiator fan not turn on due to your thermostat issue, or did you ever notice the car was running 20-30˚ cooler?

Hey, I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze. It’s making a noise that i am not sure what is causing it. It sounds like one of the belts but I’ve been told so many things. I could be the pulleys, or the thermostat. But my check engine light isn’t on, nothing is leaking. Last year I had some of the leaks replaced in my car where a previous owner used aftermarket parts to temporarily fix the problem. I just need to know what to do.

Thank you so much for this video. It was very detailed and thorough. The 5/16 star bolts on the thermostat are very difficult to access. The sensor on the intake is also difficult to remove if you don't know how. The tension clamp on the coolant hose is also difficult to work with. Your clear instructions helped immensely.
If you are going to attempt this seemingly simple repair, I suggest the following tools:
    - tiny socket ratchet set with a universal joint and extenders. You will need this because the angles and access to the bolts are maddeningly inaccessible.
    - use a small "regular" pliers to work with the hose clamp. It is very difficult to get a good angle, but needle nose pliers are not helpful

Its so terrible that dorman chinesium specials are engineered and manufactured better than an OEM part. This is not by accident if u ask me. Failed obsolescence is designed right into parts these days so you have to keep buying them. My parts from the 60s made in America are still working as good as the day they were made, 50 to 60 years later.

Had to fight to get the grooved sided connection point off, it was the hardest part of the whole job right along with getting the last little hose clamp off. FYI for anyone planning to do this on a Chevy Sonic with the same engine .... it's MUCH more of a pain in the ass but is still doable. The main issues are that the Cruze has a slightly larger engine bay so there's a bit more room to work around and the Sonic overflow/reservoir is located up front instead of back by the firewall. Because of this, the bottom hose from the reservoir goes across the front of the engine and back around the side making it perfectly in the way while you're changing this housing. There's also a hard AC line that's routed differently than the flexible AC hose you see in his video and it is also perfectly in the way. Even with unbolting the housing first, removing the lower coolant hose from the housing is a huge pain and honestly you're going to be better off replacing the factory clamp with a screwdriver style clamp once you do get it off. One more slight difference to note .... the clip holding the front hose on the thermostat housing comes off and goes on from the left side rather than from the top like the one on his Cruze in this video.

Great video! Super informative and great step-by-step visual and narrative. Quick question though, if I am only replacing the thermostat gasket I saw you remove, can the same spring be re-utilized? The new thermostat looked like it was already compressed in place. Can you recompress the original spring if only replacing the gasket?
Thanks again for the great video.

Thanks for watching & we are happy the video helped. Great question & it’s a hard call. In most cases, if spring was disconnecting, there is something wrong internally & it might be best to replace entire Thermostat.

Hello, I'm having issues with 2013 chevy cruze. Not overheating on gauge but under hood was extremely hot....Overflow was boiling added coolant drove, added coolant drove, and added coolant and drove . Now its not boiling and engine seems a lil cooler but still hot. Whats the problem? Top hose hot, bottom hose feels cool and empty. Thank you in advance
