a decent number of male peers i've spoken to avoid going to the gym during peak hours to avoid these influencers with tripods. some have stopped going to gyms entirely. (i myself just ignore everyone at gyms nowadays, even those genuinely trying to ask for help or talk to me. do you think i wanna be the next guy asking swoll to send a lawyer my way?) i 100% agree swoll's posts are a net negative and generate a ton of paranoia, but tbh i really don't care - this is something where men have every right to have their guard up, as their reputations could be at stake.
that being said, is it really going to help the situation by making these situations backfire on the tiktok influencers, and THEY get online mobs sent after THEM? no, it's just going to fan the flames and generate even more hostility.
so the solution is simple...ban all recording devices at all gyms nationwide (other than security cameras). ban streaming, ban recording gym sessions on tripods, ban all of it. ban phones on the gym floor and force customers to go back to MP3 players. if you have a issue with a customer bothering you, you're going to have to just notify staff like you did in 2006.

Joey Swoll isn’t responsible for how his fans react, he puts criticism to these people in the most respectful way possible and merely asking them to do better. He does not attack them or call them names. The “misogynistic” comments you posted were literally from other women. Now there are men too, but the examples you used were just terrible. Joey has been using his influence to stop these idiotic trends of trying to make regular gym goers into a creep and unfortunately all of them have been women and that’s why most of his videos are on women.

Hi. Thanks for commenting! As I mention in the video, but should probably reiterate, Joey Swoll is not direct responsible for the misogyny expressed in the comments but rather his videos are being used as a vessel for others to express these harmful views. In terms of the comments I choose, women can hold misogynistic ideals and viewpoints and it's just as important to call out internalized misogyny in women as it is in men. Also most of the more cruel comments have either been deleted from twitter, removed because they violate community guidelines, or I decided not to include. I choose ones that may seem a little more "tame" but still have threads of misogyny within them. I'm sure if you went searching through the threads you could find the more intense ones. But, something I did not mention in the video but will here is the fact that there are a lot of people in those threads calling out this gross type of behavior. So, I don't think it's all bad. In terms of Joey's involvement I think it's important to remember intent does not also equal impact. He had good intentions but the impact of his videos are somewhat negative.

2:20 that's not normal behavior. That's bizarre behavior. If you belong in the facility, you would let yourself in. If you have a habit of doing that, stop immediately. Never let anyone into where you live who doesn't belong.
