With PlayStation 5's still scarce, the developers ensure that PS4 and PS4 Pro versions are an uncompromised way to enjoy your journey through the Forbidden West. In this comparison video, we put the two versions side-by-side through numerous in-game cutscenes, loading times, and more. it's impressive how it looks in PS4 ... makes me wonder how they could have pushed PS5 if it would've been an exclusive to this gen. Can't wait to see what's next.

I’m definitely happy to see the focus on offering a good 60 fps mode on PS5 as some of the finer points of fidelity start to have less impact whereas 30 vs 60 fps is a difference that’s incredibly apparent & impacts gameplay.
Comparing screenshots or freeze frame details definitely miss that big difference.

@@stormdavis7093 Returnal had some really good lighting and VFX, too. Maybe doesn’t jump out as good looking in a more traditional sense, but it had some really great tech behind particular aspects.
Thanks for comparison. It looks surprisingly good on PS4 and I don't mind longer loading time. I own a PS4 and will play it on PS4.
They really made the right choice making it for PS4 first. With prices and parts availability as they are now, it would've hurt sales tremendously if they'd released it on PS5 only.

The ps4 version still looks amazing but the good thing is you won’t notice what your missing out on unless you have a comparison on your screen directly, can’t wait to play this game Friday

man i don't know what kind of magic Guerilla do with their Decima engine. it looks viably good on PS4. and definitely agree that PS4 users won't know what they're missing out if it's not compared screen to screen directly like this.

I mean, it looks better on the PS5, but that’s a given. The fact that it still looks as good as it does on the PS4 is impressive, though those load times are gonna try my patience.
I just recently played Horizon Zero Dawn and I was losing patience waiting for it load on my ps5

If you buy the PS4 version, which is cheaper, you can upgrade it to the PS5 for free!
@@kjellbeats mate it will look stellar on your Pro and then you can upgrade for free once you get your PS5, some advice get a disk version or you are locked into Sonys market, I'm getting this tomorrow on disk and on Amazon I paid £51.06 gbp, I don't get why they charge so much for digital, no production or haulage costs etc yet physical is cheaper and you can lend a friend it or sell it, digital should have its own marketplace on consoles because Sony and MS could still take a cut from the resale anyway and it would always be a sellers market, even if they limited each game to one or two resales, I know they have the tech for it, I own 103 games physically on PS4, I own 18 on PS5, I have 263 on XB combined as they have smart delivery, I do own quite a few digital games I get in sales, one good thing about digital is you can't borrow a game out never to be seen again, is it just me or when you lend someone a game its like they think you've given it them for keeps? I've had to scraps over games I wanted back, same with blu rays actually and I lend them out and forget who tf I lent them to, anyway, whinge over, respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 and hope you have a blast tomorrow mate
After watching this, I'm seriously considering picking up the PS4 version now. I was initially going to wait for a "Complete Edition" whenever they release story DLC, but it seems harder and harder to wait that long lol

I own a ps5 for a year and I can confirm that you are absolutely missing nothing. Buy a ps4 if you dont have money to confortably buy a ps5

All things considered, I think it runs pretty well on PS4. Obviously better on ps5 but all things considered, they did an amazing job from what we’ve see
I’ve just finished it and the amount of fast travelling I did. I swear I saved over an hour in Load times compared to if I fast travelled on the PS4 version. Sometimes it’s nearly instant on the PS5. I don’t inherently notice the amazing loading times on ps5 but when I watch comparisons like this it’s crazy to see that it’s unnoticed but a life saver
I haven't been so excited for a game in a long time. HZD was perfect in my eyes idk if this will top it.

Hzd was a great game tho I wish it had more gameplay options and things to do and interact with around the world to really make it come to life. After I completed everything it seemed like everything and person was just there to look at and watch them go about their programmed routines..
It still looks very impressive and runs smooth on PS4. I have PS5 but it's nice to see
And this is why I love and respect Guerrilla Games and techland for doing both versions there really care about there fans on both consoles because of how hard and yeah the ps5 is to get but when I get one I will be playing on ps5 when it sort it self out and people ripping off faking and using brinks etc but there no real difference apart it more smoother and better on next gen that's it and I'm Download it right now and dying to play one thing Im going to do like the first game I platinum is to experience and explore the world its so beautiful

I'll be playing on PS4 since I don't have a PS5 yet and don't plan on getting one any time soon. Perhaps in another year or so but this looks great on both. The minor differences I see won't deter my enjoyment of the game on PS4 so I'm looking forward to it.

@@goldensapphire0 if you are like me and only own a PS5 you have no choice but to go to the playstation store and buy the ps5 version because they removed the ps4 version after they announced their mistake. I would need to get a hold of a PS4, log in with my PSN account, purchase the ps4 version, log out, log into my ps5 just to save $10.

For a console which came 8 yrs ago, it surprises me how it still manages to stand along side next gen consoles.
Honestly i won't be sad even it gives a below par graphics as long as it can run the game without any lags

sony is really good pushing their consoles to the limit. even the ps3 at the end of its life cycle even manage to run the last of us game.
There is a little bit of a difference, but luckily not enough to hurt the overall experience of the game where, you'd have to legit focus to see the contrast. As for loading times, that's to be expected (and honestly, I feel that shouldn't be apart of these comparison videos since everyone knows it's gonna load up much faster on a ps5 vs a ps4).
Graphics have hit their peak on the PS4 with this game, the optimizations are insane and environments look real. The only real differences I noticed with graphics were the shadows. When Alloy drew the bow on the five, you can see the shadow of the bow on her face. Shadows, lightening and reflections take a lot of processing power, it amazes me that there is enough resources to draw a shadow on the face of a character.
Hopefully, during the PS5's generation, we can get rid of that uncanny effect that video game characters have.
it's the ability to run it at 60fps is the major difference.
2 quick questions:
- Some other reviewers mentioned pop-in issues. Were these exaggerated on PS4 at all?
- Were the NPC spawn rates and behaviors similar across both platforms? Unlike PS3 vs PS4 for Watch_Dogs and GTA5 for example.
I heard only ps5 had those pop in issues

I upgraded my PS4 to SSD and the loading times felt pretty similar to PS5 (I didn't time it though). The lighting model looks slightly better on PS5. I didn't see this video until I had played through the entire PS4 version. PS5 does make the characters feel slightly more solid and grounded in the world by reacting more dynamically to light sources. It's subtle but cool. I was nonetheless extremely satisfied playing the PS4 version.
I recently put an SSD on my PS4 and it loads faster but I don't see a slight difference on the graphics still sticking with the PS4 all the way
I've played it on the PS5 but I must say it's easily impressive on the PS4 aswell. Apart from resolution and framerate you won't be missing out on much.
Just now started playing this last week on my PS4 and I've been amazed at how deep in detail they get with the in games graphics. Yet my PS4's fan sounds like it's going to take off, with the force it's putting out. Good thing I've got headphones. Bad that they didn't make the game 3d audio like The Last of Us Part II.
One thing I've noticed that's very common, especially in action packed videos. The game can't handle all the details at once on the PS4 at times. Not sure if the PS5 runs into the same problem. Do you get a fuzzy layered model when the camera goes back and forth repetitively in videos or looking around in the environment? Please let me know.
I noticed too,it does this after 4-5 hours off running, well the game is really pushing the PS4 to the maximum and don't forghet, PS4 was launched in 2014 and the game is 2022 so... I'm just happy they made it run on PS4.
The colors are more vibrant on ps4 in this video. So i prefer that one myself.
I do have it on the ps4 myself too, and its stunning.
I have an old non slim, non pro ps4, and it runs amazingly well.

which mode is the ps5 version captured in quality mode or performance?
Only differences on PS5 I see here is: faster loading times, slightly better lighting, and slightly higher framerate.
Don't miss those load times, that alone was worth the upgrade!

You can install a cheap SSD in the PS4 and it reduces loadtimes by 90%. Horizon ZDs loadtimes where already attrocious, after i installed an SSD it was down to 5-10 seconds depending on the area i was loading.
Would be nice if you can buy a PS5 for $500 bucks though.
Was really hoping for this to be a holiday game for last year but.... When it got a final release date felt like it was gonna be forever and now just a few days away. My ps5 is ready.
It is different when you see them both on a big screen, subtle but ps5 just feels that bit more real and alive, ray tracing unbelievable (I started on ps4, lost interest , upgraded to ps5 picked the game up again and have been hooked since)

I didn’t really notice a difference in graphics until the Poseidon quest where you go to vegas. Ohhhh the lighting on PS5 is beautiful. Absolutely stunning.
can you make a gun expert look at Ready Or not's guns? The realism of the gun and that type of stuff.
Why not use the quality mode to show what the graphics look like in that too??
That's logical and would make sense but a lot of main stream game channels doesn't do that often, if at all.

This definitely highlight how graphically intensive it is just to get a higher resolution.
What i notice on ps4 when playing, when your character doesn't move the texture looks sharper but when you move your character or sprint everything looks blurry.
I'm really glad a lot of the games I want coming out are just as playable on PS4 as PS5. Well old friend we still got some more years together it seems (hugs my chunky PS4)
I'm not gonna lie, I'm all kinds of nervous about slitherfang and that frickin giant turtle. Farming and weapon upgrades are going to be my focus early on. As for the console comparison, I think it'll be fine regardless of the platform you play on. There's always something better. If you've got a really good monitor or TV just enjoy and play your heart out. 😊

I loved the first game I got it release day and beat it within a month and I so badly want to get this game as well but I really really think it will be worth waiting until I get a ps5 to get it.
Frame rate seems to be the main difference and slightly better graphics. And the loading times. Runs fine on my ps4 pro. I do wish I could have 60fps though
It’s very surprising how well the PS4 still manages to look so good. I won’t be surprised GOW Ragnarök will also look great on PS4

I really hope this does'nt have auto pop for trophies. May sound dumb but I can't pass up the chance for free platinums, and I have yet played the ps5 version when both are offered. Getting the integrade trophies in 60fps made me cry a bit though.

Very difficult comparison uploading at only 1080p plus UA-cam compression. Both look like a blurry mess.
Considering the 2013 jaguar architecture the PS4 version looks remarkable.

Any of you who don't have a PS5 yet, as they are still hard to get like the SX, I'm sure you'll have a blast because it still looks amazing on the older hardware, I'm amazed a 2013 gen machine can pump out graphics like this nearly 10 years on, PS4 is still a beast and GG are technical wizards, Decima engine imo is the best engine currently used, even Killzone SF and Until Dawn look stellar.
on ps4 it is quite noticeable that it only goes to 30 fps compared to ps5 in performance mode that goes to 60, if you only put 4k quality mode it would go to 30 fps but the difference would be abysmal
Would have made more sense to have the ps5 version running the fidelity mode so both games running on 30 to have a better comparison with each frame to notice detail side by side better

The game looks almost as good on ps4 as it does on ps5. I'll hang onto my ps4 until I actually start seeing consoles for sale again in stores. And once I do make the upgrade to ps5, my ps4 games can be played on the ps5 disc version. Also, I'm surprised to see so many people complain about load times. Maybe because I'm a veteran gamer who started playing back during the first generation, I'm used to load screens. Besides, I see spending $500 bucks on a ps5 for the sole purpose of cutting 25 seconds off your load times as beyond pointless. Unless you're filthy rich
Would love to have an option to control the intensity of the hero light … it’s way better on the ps4
It does look better on ps5 when aloy is in brightly lit areas but in darker areas it's very over done and doesn't look natural with the rest of the scene. It makes her look like she isn't really there. Personally I would rather have the ps4 lighting in both light and dark areas than the ps5s lighting. I agree that I hope we get the ability to tone it down or turn it off because I specifically bought the ps5 for this game.

Fun fact:The comparison of both cut scenes is that the PS5 version displays in-game cut scenes and the PS4 version cut scenes contain video clips of the same cut scenes.
Totally agree the graphics look nearly the same, but from a PS4/5 owner, one thing you really notice is how lightning fast the PS5 loads compared to the PS4. Absolutely changes the experience for a game like Horizon, when you’re continually fast transporting around a giant world map and it takes you 5 seconds instead of a minute waiting on a load page.
If I have PlayStation 5 and I want to play it in ps4 version does the loading will be late or the same ?
I played this game the first time round on the ps4 and it was incredible experience. I fell in love too hard to have any complaints and it performed perfectly. I finally got my hands on a ps5 a bit ago and HFW managed to somehow look and _feel_ even better. Such a stunning game ❤

The loading times on PS4 really do bug me. Especially when at a workbench (just pressing triangle) or opening the skill tree and notebook, because it really disrupts the flow...

You are right. But I bet this is the one loading screen you'll see, when you are in the game I imagine you won't see a loading screen longer than a couple seconds if not less
Let me get this straight...the PS4 has like 2+ TFLOPS and PS4 Pro got like 4+ TFLOPS...so the PS5 was supposed to be at 10+ TFLOPS and the graphics improvement is subtle besides a little framerate increase
I can hardly tell a difference with ps5 simply having slightly sharper lighting. The physical ps4 release already has a ps5 upgrade available if you got it so I don't think getting it for ps4 is anywhere close to a bad decision. Heck even Elden Ring runs fairly smoothly on ps4 console, nice to still be getting amazing games this late into the console's lifespan.
If you are not watching in 4k its obvious you wont see much difference.
I think loading times are a sacrifice many should be willing to make for the game to look this good and run this well.

I can't believe people are happy with this, when the ps4 was coming out, you could see a big difference between the ps3 games and ps4 games but now people are gonna spend £700 pound for slightly better shadows or lightning or 60 FPS.
It’s looks the same almost however on ps5 you have different options for what you wanna favour, performance, graphics or balanced
The FPS is the only big deference... everything else is just smoothly different... (the loading time also, of course!)
Idc! The PS4 version looks just as good as the next gen and unfortunately I don't have that so I will be buying the last gen one. Really excited to play it because before Christmas last year I purchased Hzd and it's really a fun good game!

Oh Gamespot, what is the point of such a comparison when due to the low bitrate UA-cam is using at 1080p and lower the image is blurry and blocky anyway, even on low res displays. Start using 1440p and 4K resolutions on UA-cam (even for native 1080p footage), just like all other (not counting IGN) gaming channels.
Basically half the video looks like it is from a Switch port, no matter what side of the image I look at.
Still using my old 50” Pioneer plasma (5090H) tv from 2008. Still looking great af. Still only 1080p. I’m sitting 11 feet away and I wouldn’t see much of a difference. But I’m still waiting for ps5 to get back in stock 🤣

You should run the PS5 using the 4K option and not performance since that mode will be similar to PS4
It's just low effort on their part. The whole video is maxed out at 1080p60, which is ridiculously pathetic for a "Graphics Comparison" video. Gamespot has really fallen. Between things like this and the story spoilers in their reviews... they could learn a thing or two.
Lol I was just looking for this comment 😂😂🤣 this is a 1080p video while Ps5 performance mode runs 1800p close to 4K.... The difference is very big compared to performance mode and PS4
Why is the lighting sometimes better on ps4? Like when aloy walked into the cave she was lit up for no reason when she should have match the dark shadows like she does on ps4? Kinda weird imo

It’s a PS4 game. The developers made it with the PS4 in mind. The only different to the PS5 is the resolution boost and frame rate boost.
To tell u the truth I don’t see any difference at all besides some minor coloring difference here and there that’s it.. I’ll stick with ps4 until ps5 gets better after a while…

ok the only differences that can be assimilated are shadows and lighting the load of frames per second on PS5 you run the game at native 60fps 4k while on PS4 at 30 fps at native 1080p out there the game looks totally the same Of course, and if you are wondering why the game looks totally the same on both consoles, it is because the UE4 graphics engine was used for both PS4 and PS5, as the game was planned for both consoles, if the game was created from the beginning with UE5 should have made a different PS4 game with UE4 and a different PS5 game with UE5 so that's why they limited PS5 to using UE5 for this game

@@RAL0981 Ps4 Pro plays the last of us remastered with two options. 2160p with 30fps or 1080p with 60fps. Shows both options on mine. 🤷♂️ So nope, he ain’t misinforming anyone.
Not “every” single game got a patch for 60fps on Ps4 and pro. But most did.

just start on ps4 origin version with HDR, it enough to say it is the most beautiful graphics game in PS 4 history.
