Thank you!! Two biggest revelations that have helped my solo’s immeasurably: 1. PREDICT the head turn and attack on the same tick as olm for mage hand. 2. REACT to olm visually and attack 1 tick after olm for the melee hand.
Great guide! I helped a lot of people learn 4-1 by simply saying: Whatever you do, stay one attack tick after olm attack. Then the only thing that can mess u up is the portals(and maybe acid early on). Knowing that they can spend less time running around and more time getting used to animations, processing information and binding them to theory.
Of course it is, unless your reaction time is 2-3x longer than the average person's. If you're multiple standard deviations from the norm then maybe you shouldn't solo raids period.
actually you have less than that. You should click on olm's head the same tick when his animation starts, so after the start of the animation you have 1 tick - reaction time - ping time to click on it, so if your reaction time is 200ms and your ping is 100ms then you only have 300ms time. It's better to just predict his incoming attack and click exactly at the same time, you can do this if you know that an attack happens every 4 ticks and you can count the ticks in your head.
@@howtoba4217 You should not do it that way. There's a reason why he says to do it the he does. It's better not to predict anything what your sayings greatly increases your chance of error by waiting predicting timing things counting ticks when you dont have to instead of calming reacting to an attack. im not trying to be rude but this exactly why a simplified guide to get into 4:1 needed to be made because people say thing like your suggesting while they are trying to learn its needlessly complicating things and increasing margin for error at the same time.
That was so simplistic. Can you do one on the mage hand? I tried to do a solo and kept not being able to do and was so frustrated I just left the raid after an hour and a half.
Hi, For the starting point, do you simply tank the autos until the crystal special like in your video? what happens if you get lightning and portals? Is it the same? Sorry I am having trouble understanding what we are waiting for when we tank the olm autos.
Did you figure it out? I want to know that too. I assume you just have to deal with them until crystals. Probably why he says this isn’t the best way to do it.
aaty replied to a comment four months ago, but if any future people are curious - any special. As you might imagine, portals are more disruptive. However, two attacks -> run left will always put you in the cycle as long as you're attacking one tick *after* his *first* auto. You attacking 1t after an olm action (head turn, attack, null, spec) shouldn't change the timing on when you run left. It'll only change the number of attacks you do. Olm cycle: auto - null - auto - special The basic idea is, as long as you attack with a 4t weapon one tick after an olm action, skip the second auto on his thumb, and special attacks on his pinky, you'll be in the cycle even if you take an extra hit at the start if he's looking to the middle. Its simplicity makes it perfect as a first step. If I can do it, so can you. Cubone has a good video if you're trying to get further in-depth, solo jawn has good coaching videos. Speaking personally, once this method clicks, it feels so good.
thanks for the guide, great info. one question, can i start the 4:1 the same way after lightning (or portals if it's close enough to the hand) like that? meaning if i finish mage hand and start on melee hand, wait for the first special and it's lightning, can i just wait for next auto and atk 1 tick after olm and be set the same way?
Thank you so much for this vid man, its helped me so much despite knowing the theory perfectly I could never manage to set up 4:1 properly as I've only sent 12 solo's :L
Wouldn't it be a good tip to spend the time tanking the auto's to do any specs on the melee hand? Also is it acceptable to just wait for the crystals and not try after lightning or teleports? They dont seem as easy to start with haha
if you're correctly taking hits instead of dodging, no. However if you're dodging then yes. TLDR: don't dodge, taking hits is good to figure out where you are.
my best description is literally be on tick with olm. his action is 4 ticks same as weapon speed. if i dont know where i'm at in the cycle i watch out for these two olm's actions (assuming im "on tick" with olm and at the thumb position): 1. If Olm double attacks quickly. DO a 3-1 and you're set for 4:1 2. if special occurs and you're at thumb wait for that first attack after the special and attack when olm attacks and get two hits in (what you explained in this video)
So attacking right after he crystals is a good starting point. And you talked about the fact that there are many other points in the cycle you can start. What other starting points would you recommend?
can you show how to try to get back into cycle on 3rd phase? im trying to practice by being able to reset hand hp but im also getting stacked by so many things i get so fucking lost on how to deal with it.
tldr the "crystals" event can be replaced with "any" event i.e crystals/lighting/teleports/healing/attack/null/turn positioning yourself in 4:1 after this requires 1 of 4 different adjustments based on where you are, which furthermore requires you to tank an extra event to identify what part of the event cycle you're in, then modifying it with amount of hits and movement to the middle as required to get yourself into a point where you're hitting as the null is occurring and skipping the attack middle. other guides as linked in the description may help more than this "guide", since the point of this was only to showcase how to get into 4:1 easily so players have an understanding of what it feels like and looks like so they can compare it to their learning/cycles of other 4:1 entry points and see if its correct or not, aka its just a correct comparison point for learning.
So it doesn't matter where he is in the cycle, if I attack 1 tick after ANY of his attacks/specials and then attack another 2 times on thumb run the head I will always be in 4:1??? Is that what i'm getting from this
olm does an "action" every 4 ticks. olm cycle is 16 ticks, attacking on a 4 tick cycle places you in one of 4 spots IF you attack 1 tick after him. only 1 of those 4 spots is correct for 4:1. if you attack after him and the next thing that occurs is the null, you're in, then you skip his next attack by going center, and skip the special by going to pinky. (4:1 is technically "middle skipping"). It's a lot of lingo - best to try and get the cycle theory down before learning each of the 4 possible positions - the example above is an easy way to set it so you can get experience and see what it's meant to look like - it's not a full guide on all possible outcomes, for some you'll need to do a 3:1 or keep hitting, its only really if you get teleports will setting become difficult as the rythmn of attacking can be disrupted.
take a minute to think about the theory of olm, the attack cycle and the timing - this vid doesnt go into detail on any of that but when learning the other entry points and *why* this all works, it's a huge help to identify that and begin thinking about it so you can realise why something is or isnt working.
@@aatykon I think I just need to restructure my mindset when it comes to olm, I’m kinda just trying to strongman the methods without too much thinking and it hurts my consistency with getting into the cycle. Thanks
@@Magic_dawn you got it boss, its much more complicated than any other part of osrs and it's not particularly intuitive either, but v fun once learned.
i love Soup but it teaches extremely bad and useless habits, you can also follow his guide and not get into 4:1 so there's that. it's not bad to have as a secondary resource but other guides especially the text guides are more useful for correct learning, sorry Soup :L
Yeah unfortunately learning to dodge flame walls and setup cycle is another step, I chose to omit this to keep the absolute basics. If you want to dodge flame however, you simply need to start 2 tiles to the right of thumb, middle of the melee hand, and one tick before move to thumb and attack. Repeat this for each attack you're required to do on thumb and voila.

"You have 0.6 seconds, that's plenty of time" lmao
Of course it is, unless your reaction time is 2-3x longer than the average person's. If you're multiple standard deviations from the norm then maybe you shouldn't solo raids period.
reaction time is like0.35 seconds or something like that. For the average person that's manageable. Doesn't sound like much but it's fine
actually you have less than that. 1 isn't necessarily a solution although that does work a fair amount of the time. As for being on tick, you want to be 1 tick BEHIND, not same-tick.
@@aatykon True, sometimes a special attack can occur with 1 and in that case, I would follow #2. But yeah i meant 1 tick behind.
