I've gotten some messages from people recently saying that some members of the high level pvm community who do lots of Chambers of Xeric, mainly from the WeDoRaids discord, do not recommend this guide to people since it teaches bad habits and has some mistakes. I completely agree that this is not a perfect guide and there are some bad habits that I recommend (such as running to the other side of the room to reset the head). They also say that by following the method, you won't always get into the 4:1. This guide is no way an efficient guide. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has a deep understanding of how solo olm works. I do disagree however, that it's a bad guide - I still find my method of getting into the 4:1 the absolute easiest way for beginners to knock out their first few solos. With the method, you can successfully complete consistent solo raids without ever knowing what's olm cycle even is. And as for the not always getting you into the 4:1, I've done over 1,000 solos and can count on one hand the amount of times that I wasn't able to get into the 4:1 off my first few attacks. So yes, the guide isn't perfect. But compared to the other guides available, I find it to be the most noob friendly and the easiest to understand. Once you've gotten better - definitely feel free to look into some more in-depth and advanced guides for perfect your solo olms! Good luck :)

To this day, this is literally the most useful 4:1 guide I've ever had the pleasure of watching All these other guides just tell you where to stand and when to attack, ect ect ect. Not a single one of these 2 head guides tell you how to fix/adjust for a out of cycle 4:1 so you can actually get into the proper rhythm.
One thing that tripped me up when starting that's worth mentioning is falling crystals, crystal bombs, acid, and flame wall are NOT special attacks. those are auto attacks just like magic/range. (1 and 3 in the 1-2-3-4 attack cycle where as teleports, crystals under your feet, and lighting are attack 2)
People kept recommending I watch some other youtuber’s 4:1 guide whenever I mentioned I was struggling with melee hand running (only done 3 solos deathless as of right now running 3:1). So glad i found this video, clear, succinct and well presented...very easy to understand! Thanks solomission!
Update: I did a solo raid trying this method the day after watching it and it was super easy to get into the 4:1. I have died a few times since- but only due to lag or dead clicks. Currently 87 solos dry of a purple but can 4:1 almost perfectly now. Thank you so much ThirdAgeFilm.
This guide is very good imo. Very clear for every situation for the 4:1. I don't care if its not efficient or not good or w/e else ppl said. It's very straight forward and perfect for someone who has NO idea how to start or reset during the fight. Thanks man :D
Hey! Just wanted to say I was impressed with this guide. As someone who does solo raids daily, and have taught a ton of people 4:1 - this will be a great resource. I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised! Well done
bro after 120 raids i finally got it down. im late but this guide is godly. thanks so much, i finally got my first 4:1 no death olm kill. i just went in and tried olm melee hand over n over again on the same raid with a hell alot of pots and deaths untill i got it perfectly. took about 2 hours but worth it. i just let phase 3 melee hand heal and try untill i went perfect thanks so much bro.
thanks a lot for the guide, the part about how to respond when seeing 2 consecutive attacks by hopping into a 3-1 to get back into 4-1 is rly helpful to understand
Very solid guide, just did my first 2 deathless solo last night on the iron, making the switch from 3:1 to 4:1 was the key and this video made it make sense. This has been a goal of mine for a while now, thanks a lot for the help
Just attempted my first non suicide solo because of this on my iron. Pretty not great gear, but came out with a brew and a half and felt so pumped!!! I got my first item from the same raid, ancestral hat :D 7 arcanes before this. Thank you for this video!!!
Why does it look like you're doing 3 attacks if crystal spawn, but 4 if lightening spawns? 9:28 crystal, 10:04 lightening. I thought they were supposed to function the same way?
Man Soup. I don't really leave comments on RuneScape content creators videos as I just enjoy the content. But man, these visual queues you've pointed out in this video are fucking amazing man. Like most people have said, you've pointed out things other guides have not. I was so stumped as to what I was doing wrong as I thought I was doing what most streamers do. But I didn't know attacking 1 tick later was all that was the issue. Thank you so much man. Can't wait for the next episode of the games to come out :)
this is a great guide, although another suggestion i would make for learners is to use the metronome plugin on runelite. This is different from having an external metronome like on your phone set to 100 beats per minute or whatever (if you're a musician) because the metronome plugin syncs to your "experienced" ticks in game. So if you have a lag spike, the beat will delay a bit for example. This is better because an external metronome app would easily fall out of sync with the game after a short time due to ping variability. That being said, Olm's attack cycle is 4 ticks, so 4 beats = 1 cycle. Learning to predict which beat Olm will start turning his head will be critical for doing solos at all because the moment he starts turning his head is beat 1. When you count beat 1, if that's the same exact moment he starts turning his head, count 2, 3, 4 on the following 3 beats, then on the next beat (beat 1 of the next cycle) he will start turning his head again if you're out of his line of sight. You need to be tick perfect to do solo Olm, so being in sync with the metronome is the best way to learn tick perfection. Good luck! Side note for my fellow iron men, you can do this with rune crossbow, trident, dwh, and abyssal tentacle minimum. Preferably ahrim's, and god d'hide, and fighter torso. It may seem inconsistent, but the best thing you can do for yourself is do suicides (full inventory, five restores, the rest brews) inside the raid to drop supplies to pick up at least until you get better gear and cox prayers. You should still get about 24k points with this method if you don't die after the suicide. That equates to 3% chance at a purple. And remember, every 8k points on the dot is an extra 1% chance at a purple, this chance does not scale linearly. So 23,999 points is exactly a 2% chance at a purple, and 24,000 points is exactly a 3% chance at a purple. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you hypothetically get 24k points (with a suicide) or hypothetically 30k points (without the suicide), your chances at purple are the same.
Idk why you apparently got messages saying this guide isn't good. It is so succinct and words things in such a way that a noob who has never fought Olm would understand. Its purpose isn't to show you how to most efficiently kill Olm... But anyway thanks for this video! It really helped solidify some basic knowledge that I kind of had from watching streamers. Can't wait to give my first real solo raids KC!
As long as you aren't missing attack ticks you don't have to stand still. You can move two tiles and attack in the same tick which will dodge the wall.
Exactly what Brandon said, you technically don't have to stand still while auto attacking. Just make sure you aren't missing any ticks. I have noticed though that sometimes you'll just get very unlucky with the flame wall and get stuck inside. If you do, just reset the hand by running back to the tile 1.
Hey man, idk if you read these, but I've been trying to learn the 4:1 and I feel like my timing on tile 3 is always off. It's sort of like 14:13 (how your character kinda just slows down before running to tile 4) but without having started from tile 1. Is this just a result of me not clicking on tile 4 quickly enough? Another thing, the timing running from tile 3 to tile 2 is always off and I seem to either run off tile 2 too quickly or too slowly. I've tried enabling the "true" tile indicator function on runelite and click the hand whenever the true tile is on the middle safespot, but a lot of the time he just doesn't turn his head. Is this because I'm not on the right tick timing? I'm by no means remotely close to getting this, but these are just a few issues I've noticed I'm having.
Hmm, it seems like a timing issue yeah - try clicking a tiny bit earlier and see if that helps change anything. Sometimes Olm won't turn his head if you're melee attack hits a 0, can't prevent it from happening so that might be a reason why!
As long as you are attacking on the correct tick, hitting a 0 won't affect your 4:1 since the head will only ever look towards its melee hand and towards the middle. If you are doing it correctly, you should only ever be attacked once per rotation!
Hey soup, at 10:22 when you're talking about fixing the cycle from lightning, olms head turns to the middle before you had run to tile 2. What do you do to fix that?
Hey there I'm not Soup but just recently learning solo raids myself so can help with that. His head has a chance to turn to the middle if you hit a 0 on the hand. What it means for the 4:1 method is that in those situations where you hit a 0 you may tank an extra base attack as your run to tile 2 is not going to skip that base attack. Your run to the ring finger will still skip the special though, so it's worth just continuing your normal 4:1 cycle and not adjusting anything. The solution is just to have best weapon/stats/prayers possible to hit minimal 0's.
“ and then you’ll want to use your rope on the melee hand “ ** rope appears in inventory** Really straight forward in depth guide good job dude love the vid! ❤️ I’m just still salty every once and awhile 😂
Could someone clarify, what is the purpose of stepping away whilst attacking olm's melee hand? Are you atttacking the same speed with the DHL as if you were afk and on auto-retaliate? Or are you delaying each dragon hunter lance attack by a tick as you walk away?
I step away because i'm preparing for a potential acid run or falling crystals, doesn't delay anything tick wise it's mainly just to help me pay attention
Can you wait on Thumb for one of his specials, continue with the 3 auto attacks, and then run into the 4:1 cycle? Basically while learning can you wait on thumb for one of these four different "timings" and then from there enter the 4:1 cycle?
So I noticed when crystals pawned you did what you said, you attacked 3 times and then ran left. But when the lightning came out you did 4 attacks. You timed your attack with olm then lighting spawned then you attacked 3 more times! I’m super confused about that
Yup! So that first auto attach when lightning spawned doesn't count as one of the three auto attacks you need to do when lightning appears. Your three auto attacks only start when you see the lightning appear.
Dumb question but is it hard to get through to the end with 3 invent slots used for stamina’s? But I’m guessing with how much running this involves you have to have staminas? Is there a raid craft-able one?
I'm just learning now but it shouldn't be an issue taking 5 staminas...just take less switches if need be. Scouting is so easy now you probably don't even need brews at all pre olm just scout raid with early prep room
actually a good guide from SoupRS. can recommend. I was struggling to identify what olm phase im at and how to deal with it. This actually made me git gud.
why does olm turn to look at the center every single time i do my 2nd attack when setting it up. this isnt covered in this guide and cant find any footage of it happening but its all that happens to me every single time`
If you are setting up the melee hand 4:1 and he hits you with an Auto attack then Crystal burst/teleports/lightning why do you tank 3 hits then you are in the 4:1? if Olm attacks using the pattern Auto-special-auto-null then after the auto-special (crystals/tele/lightning) dont you tank only 2 hits which are the auto-null then turn olms head and you are in the 4:1?
Hey Soup, I will definitely try this out! The way I have been doing it (still learning) is standing on tile 3 while he is looking mid, and just tanking until the second auto attack, then running tile 4 and start the 4:1 that way? Is that correct?
after portals and standing on tile 1, how do you know when to click to attack the hand? it seems like you have to predict when the head will turn and I run either too early or too late
if you reset the circle, you go back to tiles 1, when you click on the melee, if olm attack you cause you are 1 tic off, do we need to reset it again or just continu?
As long as you time sipping your brews/restores correctly, you won't miss out on timing your attacks correctly. The best time to brew/restore is immediately after an attack imo
Thank you so much for the detailed guide! One very common problem that I keep having is after my second attack at tile 3, Olm centres his head and readies another attack so I'm basically in a 4:2 cycle. Can you possibly tell me why this is happening please? EDIT: I have realised this is something that often happens when you hit a 0, isn't happening too much now that I'm using tentacle over normal whip. Thanks again Soup!
@@SoupRS Just wanted to check back and say thank you once again. Since watching your guide I've managed to solo a Dex at 21 KC and Arcane at 45 KC on my ironman. You rule.
You make it look so easy flying back and forth on these tiles, but for someone who hasnt done this before it just looks like pure chaos :P Do you really need the tiles to be on the second row?
I think this happens when you splash an attack when you are on the thumb or right safe spot (im not sure which it is). This doesn't necessarily mean you are out of the 4:1 cycle, but you will have to tank an extra auto attack instead of turning the head when you go back to the left middle safespot. I am not super experienced here so I may be wrong. Would be helpful if someone confirmed.
are you able to clarify? - you say lightning and crystals work in the exact same way, yet for crystals you do a total of 3 autos, and lightning you do a total of 4 autos before moving to middle
I was so motivated to do a deathless solo do olm after watching this video. I still got destroyed and died multiple times. I don't think I have the motivation to learn such a complex dance.
@@SoupRS I have the most trouble with knowing where I am in the cycle. It's easy to set-up the head when maging and just avoid all attacks but for the melee hand, I need to know where I am in the cycle to properly do a 4-1. And since i'm still newb at solos I misclick and lose the timing so I end up overwhelmed and dont know how to react. I believe that meleeing 1-0 is my best bet as long as I'm not completly familiar with the attack cycles. I know It all comes to practice but the learning curve is so harsh. I have so much respect for those who can master such a feat.
@@Dislob It's definitely a harsh learning curve, but not worth giving up! The biggest thing I can maybe recommend is learning 1 step at a time. To start off, focus on what Olm attacks you with when setting up the 4:1. There are only four things that can happen when setting it up, so take it 1 at a time. If you want, you can always get to the 3rd phase of olm then constantly reset the melee hand to keep practicing
@@SoupRS Thank you for your help man. I managed to do do some 4-1 yesterday without messing up much. I don't struggle as much with the cycles anymore. My problem is doing a flawless transition between maging and meleeing. I know it's just a matter of getting used to what is going on and then I will develop the reflex to act accordingly. Gotta practice more :P
Technically the same thing, although a bit confusing since "behind" might make you think of "before" which would be the opposite of "after". Olm is "ahead" of you when attacking since he attacks first, so that makes you "behind".
rip, soup just killed my hcim at chaos elemental, bad guide for chaos elemental, however excellent guide for 4:1 at olm (thx soup got my first 1st solo kc thx to you!)

decided to learn to solo CoX today, thanks alot Soup this guide is very good for melee hand!
05:45 for mage hand into melee, this is more for me than anyone :3
This was really clear and helpful. Great guide. Is there anything like this for the mage hand?
Theperfectg mage hand guide is really really good
@@seerstmw Thanks! I'll have a look at it
@@seerstmw
why does olm turn to look at the center every single time i do my 2nd attack when setting it up. this isnt covered in this guide and cant find any footage of it happening but its all that happens to me every single time`
if only I had this guide a year ago, i wouldnt have wasted so much time figuring out 4:1.
Not sure tbh, I don't know much about the cycle, this is just the way I do it
1. already in it.
2. 2 quick autos = do 1 3:1 then youre in.
3. crystal/lightening = do 3 autos then you're in.
4. deal with portal, and then retry.
🤝
Actually one of the better guides on this. Well done, especially coming from those shitty quest guides ;)
;)
Can this only be done in solos? Or can I set it up like this before my team comes in? Thanks
You can setup the tile markers at any rain and it would stay until you reinstal the client
You can technically set this up in a group raid yes, but when youre teammates come in it will most likely mess things up
@@danielkuf2593 I wasn't on about the tile markers I ment setting the rotation but thank you
@@SoupRS only just saw your replied, thanks alot for the response
Hey Soup, I will definitely try this out! The way I have been doing it (still learning) is standing on tile 3 while he is looking mid, and just tanking until the second auto attack, then running tile 4 and start the 4:1 that way? Is that correct?
@ThirdAgeFilm, Can you please explain at 4:09 minutes of the video, you dont fully go to the left side and still olm's head turns to the left. How!?
So if you are standing on that 2nd tile I have marked, Olms head will turn to the left as long as you don't splash your attack on tile 4.
after portals and standing on tile 1, how do you know when to click to attack the hand? it seems like you have to predict when the head will turn and I run either too early or too late
if you reset the circle, you go back to tiles 1, when you click on the melee, if olm attack you cause you are 1 tic off, do we need to reset it again or just continu?
Still a great video aged like a fine wine
I love raids man. Been hooked ever since I got the hang of it. It was so frustrating at first. Been having great luck on drops, but no T bow yet
Hoping this helps, been running solos and cannot run well at all. End up running around thinking I'm in rotation while getting non stop specials lol
Actually liked this, unlike your undeground pass guide long time ago.
What trips me up the most is having to brew or restore always messes up my cycle. How do you do that or do you just reset it?
As long as you time sipping your brews/restores correctly, you won't miss out on timing your attacks correctly. The best time to brew/restore is immediately after an attack imo
What is the the water ball thing in bottom of inventory?
How many staminas can I expect to run through each raid? I hate doing agility..
If you're efficient, between 6-8 doses. If you're learning, it's safer to bring at least 12.
Great guide, thanks!
Yessir, hitting a 0 on your second auto attack means Olm sometimes will center his head instead of turning! Exactly
No....other people use first row I think. Probably just helps with the more advanced skipping ect
14 minutes into the video.. 'okay guys you will need a stamina for this'
just kidding, really appreciate this guide
a couple months ago this didnt help me, way too much info lol after attempting olm solos several times since it helps sooooooooooooo much tyvm my man!
def the best guide for olm
Why does Olm sometimes use a auto attack and a portal attack at the same time?
soup, thank you so much for this guide.
why do Olm keep turning his head to the middle during the empty attack? pls help
@@chargerfan2181 Yup! Exactly
What do I do when he does a special and auto attack in one tick?
Are you talking about what kind of happens at 9:30?
@@SoupRS I misunderstood something, appologies.
are you able to clarify? - you say lightning and crystals work in the exact same way, yet for crystals you do a total of 3 autos, and lightning you do a total of 4 autos before moving to middle
Nice, I’ve been wanting to learn this!
Oh no....
A guide by Soup..
What about solo head? You just run it normaly or 4:1?
Solo head as in the 4th phase? When there's no hands and the falling crystals?
@@SoupRS Yeah
@@danielkuf2593 If you're using a blowpipe, you run back and forth between tiles 1 and 4 and get a blowpipe hit in every 2nd tile.
Why was I so dumb , 4:1 so simple now
I was so motivated to do a deathless solo do olm after watching this video. I still got destroyed and died multiple times. I don't think I have the motivation to learn such a complex dance.
What part are you having the most trouble with?
Very clean guide. Although I think you forgot to mention that you must avoid being on longrange with trident! Very important detail!!
This is a guide on 4:1, the melee hand technique. Your tip is important for new soloers, but does not fit into this guide.
Nice and clean explaining!
nice guide but why use eddy wally at the end? xD
Clean guide! grats and thanks!
FINALLY did my first one without suicide. Ty sir
gz dude!
very nice guide man tysm
thanks for this guide dude!
Do you have a mage hand guide
can you do this but for Obor? i keep dying
Super good and clear guide, but still very very hard to do this on your first attempts regardless haha
Keep grinding homie!
@@SoupRS Thank you! Will do ^^
Beast guide thank you so much
3 hours straight suiciding on olm and I'm still not even close to figuring this out...wtf is wrong with me...
great guide very helpful
Actually, there are 8 equippable light sources, not 4
holy shit u made a guide that might be meta wow thats a first
Don't you mean 1 tick after olm? not behind?
Technically the same thing, although a bit confusing since "behind" might make you think of "before" which would be the opposite of "after". Olm is "ahead" of you when attacking since he attacks first, so that makes you "behind".
rip, soup just killed my hcim at chaos elemental, bad guide for chaos elemental, however excellent guide for 4:1 at olm (thx soup got my first 1st solo kc thx to you!)
Thanks soup this helped me ( did a couple of solo's now)
A-a good soup guide? Is this the twilight zone?
You made this look to easy. Excited to try tomorrow
