Bruce actually stands to that on the Boof of Souls Tour. His words, if I recall correctly is: "... This is family. This is not one nation, this is not one race, this is not one religion. This all religions, every race, every color, every person, every gender - there used to be two, now is a few more. You know what, we are all family in this together and you everybody is welcome and answer to the bullshit that is going out there at the moment, it's not to be full of hatred, it's to be full o love, and life, and music, and a lot of beer. The first of the great thrash metal bands. The bass player, Steve Harris, is the musical force behind the band, IMO. His style, almost like a galloping horse, is a delight to hear (listen to The Trooper and you'll know what I mean). Keep up the great work!

Would you believe that Bruce, the guy running and jumping around like a maniac, was fifty years old when this was filmed? That man knows how to work a crowd like no one else I've ever seen live.
Lyrically the song is about the desperate defense of Britain by the Royal Air Force against the German Luftwaffe in 1940. This is what Churchill was referring to when he said "Never have so many owed so much to so few". Those pilots were flying basically without rest in planes that were sometimes just patched up after having been shot down. If Hitler hadn't ordered his air force to switch to terror bombing London in response to a minor raid on Berlin, where previously they had been laying waste to British air bases, Germany just might have gotten enough air superiority to attempt a D-Day in reverse.
Also, 1980's Maiden gets a lot of love but not a lot of reactors do their new music. I strongly recommend "Passchendale", a newer song based on a WW1 British soldier's resignation to his own inevitable death in one of the bloodiest battles of human history.

He's a ball of energy, and although I love the original Dianno albums, Maiden would not be where they are today if not for Bruce's drive, focus and energy. He's one of those "one in a million" personalities. Couple that with Harris' song writing, three amazing guitarists and one of the best drummers in rock and roll, it's a recipe for greatness.

I think you've done Queensryche, but there is Fates Warning, Disturbed (David Dramen is far beyond most other vocalists), Demon Hunter (whose vocal mix between really harsh vocals and clean vocals is great, Dream Theater, and so many others. It all started with Black Sabbath, the Kinks, Led Zeppelin and a few other bands from the 60s and early 70s. I love all kinds of music, I don't know what you normally listened to but if it's rap and hip hop, I never got unti that because I was never exposed to it, if you know stuff I should listen to I will. My favorite maiden song!!!
Things you may have missed at first watch:
    1) the beginning. The most famous Winston Churchill speech during WW2.
2)the song lyrics are about the heroics of the Royal Air Force Spitfire pilots during the battle of Britain. "Rolling, turning, diving,.... doing it again"
    3) the solo was in 2 parts performed by both guitarists. Something they do a lot.

@@TheAdventuresofTNT meh..... sometimes it's the studio version you want, sometimes the live..... nothing you can do if you've never heard the song before......
Maybe try a few songs from their first 2 albums with Paul dianno singing..... Iron maiden and killers.
Running free, iron maiden, Transylvania, murders in the rue morgue(from Edgar Allen Poe), women in uniform, and wrathchild are all great songs.... Transylvania has no lyrics.

Sometimes video recordings have bad audio. Sometimes they don't mix the sound correctly or may have video mics in the wrong spot. Definitively listen to album track. As usual Bruce delivers great diction and great pipes. Story of song is pretty cool. Intro is Winston Churchill. All the concerts I went to they opened with this song. Badass!

As some mentioned: the song is about the battle of Britain, which mostly was fought in the skies. It tells all about their drill from when the sirens go of, getting into the air and fighting of the enemy.
I believe it is loosely based about stories they heard from RAF pilots.
The speech in the beginning is one that Churchill held right after taking office. He took over for Chamberlain who was played for a fool by the Nazis, proclaiming "peace in our time" after signing a peace treaty which the German government broke in a year. Churchill had his past from the military and became naval minister during WWI. He was also considered a war hawk compared to Chamberlain.

Intro is a very famous speech by Winston Churchill. This is the intro to all Maiden concerts followed by Aces High. You should check out Live After Death by Maiden....One of their absolute best.

As others have said, the video you've chosen isn't the best but it's a wicked song to open a concert. Imagine the "Churchill's Speech" part starting in the dark, an almost life sized Spitfire (showing the real markings of a Polish pilot, as Bruce mentioned at the Newcastle show) flying over the stage, and Bruce's air-raid siren in fine fettle.
Have a listen to "Flight of Icarus" - another one that's played on their latest tour. There's an official video of it - Bruce has flamethrowers on stage...

I was thinking that exactly, while you were watching this: that you don't even know the lyrics - you can't know why this song is sooo fkn epic, yet!
Now, immnot some old skool Maiden fan looking down his nose at you - I am old enough to be an O.G. Maiden soldier..but, I somehow snubbed them before giving them a chance....and I have only happened upon them myself in the last 6 months.
And like you, I have been going thru a Maiden - obsessed phase, just..greedily lapping up their back catalogue, banger to banger to banger to....
Anyway...early on, I learnt to run two devices (2 phones...a phone + a tablet...a PC + a pH/tab..etc - whichever combo you can muster) , and listened to the the new (to me) Maiden material, while having googled the lyrics on the other device.
Just a suggestion, it works great for me!
Some outstanding Maiden songs O have discovered this past 6 months (excluding the ones you have said you already covered) :-
1.) Fear of the Dark (iron maidens defitive track - their crown jewel, undeniably!)
2.) The Writing on the Wall (new. KILLER video...must watch the video!!)
    3.Wasted Years
    4.Dance of the Dead
5.) Rime of the Ancient Mariner
    6) Number of the Beast
    7.) Hallowed be thy name
The holy Trinity of Maiden epic songs , to me, are :-
    1) Fear of the Dark
    2) Hallowed be thy name
    3)Aces High
Anyways..greatreaksh, my Bruv...enjoy your newfound life as a member of the Irons Family! 🤘😔
PS. I see now, that this post 2 yrs old.. making YOU the OG Maiden fan between the two of us..!
...I've gotta start looking at the post date before typing long responses in the comments!😌

If you haven’t already you need to listen to the album version. Although Iron Maiden is always entertaining live, Bruce just doesn’t quite have the voice that he used to. The album Powerslave is from 1984. It’s the album that I still love and had me listening to Maiden since I was 7 years old
