    Just addressing a few people's concerns with the tracking and using studio lights. I do want to be clear I don't normally have studio lights on at all, I only have them on here for the purposes of filming the video. Cameras definitely need light. The Studio lights are off on any other occasion and were off during the hours and hours I spent with this headset, with the exception of the 20-30 minutes of recording me playing specifically for this video. Hopefully you all understand!
    Much Love,
    Thrill

      You might have too dark room and your floor is too plain, no carpet with patterns. This is inside-out tracking and it needs to track against something. Install 1200 lumen ambient light there on a ceiling, do not flood G2 with strong directional light. Ambient light. Put a carpet there with some pattern on it.
      Quick tip: After plugging-in the G2 via USB show your central point to WMR and later select "seated play" (or standing if you need boundaries) in WMR and stand in your main central pivot point you wil play your games. Click Center in WMR app (or SteamVR menu button). It is very important to do this, to set exactly the central spot you will play your games. With seated play you do not have boundaries so be careful. Cameras remember the surrounding this way. I do it every time I plug-in my VR goggles. You will have great tracking I am sure about it. My Odyssey+ has only 2 cameras, but it has PERFECT tracking in Pavlov VR. I am able to aim the highest distances in WW2 maps and snipe people from 100 meters. Such review is harmful to PC VR and is not right, simply not true. I think you might have good intentions, but tracking part was something wrong. See my video with Odyssey+ ua-cam.com/video/JgrR4t2_R8E/v-deo.html

      With tracking issues being reported by:
      ThrillSeaker
      EricForPresident
      Cas&Chary
      Tomshardware
      I think it a real issue. Others saying it fine (MRTV and tyrell woods) seem to be more casual players and MRTV has a was of being very hyped/enthusiastic about things.
      Many in the right environment it work better, but it should work without having to do too much to find the perfect conditions.

      @@RojasTKD7 MRTV and Tyriel are right. They are VR enthusiasts and know how to setup things right for VR in their rooms. See my comment above and the video. That was Odyssey+ with only 2 cameras and it works great. WMR is not ideal, but it works good now.

    I don't know if anyone's said this already, but it seems HP is aiming to become the go-to brand for the professional environment VR niche (like online VR conferences where you're sat in an online meeting room with a Dutch CFO to your left and a Japanese CEO to your right while looking at a PowerPoint). The price being enthusiast-grade, the top of the line resolution, and the sub-par refresh rate and field of view (as far as an enthusiast device goes) tells me this is probably going to be bundled alongside an HP workstation (those with Xeon processors and Nvidia Quadro GPUs) that high ranking executives go for rather than a 3090. I've seen an eerie amount of executives talk about how despite having a comfortable office, a clear microphone, and a great camera, they despise work-from-home meetings because they feel sharing a physical space with whoever they're talking with is vital. Beyond that, the idea of cutting down on intercontinental business trips by moving to a sort of professional VR chat sounds like heaven for people who want to work more efficiently or simply spend more time with their families. I mean, even ignoring the fact that a 1.5k VR setup is undisputably a dirt-cheap alternative when compared to the total price of a trip, you can't put a price tag on spending more with your family (you can, however, put a very pretty price tag on not having to go on an exhausting 3-day trip which slashes productivity). I think HP knows where they're going and they're partially using the videogame market to give their new project some momentum and attention from more lucrative clients. This doesn't mean they're being slimy in any way; the more people that buy their products the better for them. I just think they're being very smart about who they're planning to primarily cater to.

Direct sunlight is a big nono as they use visible light LEDs (downside vs the competition). If incoming light is equally strong as the LEDS - cameras cant see the LEDs = loss of tracking. I got the G2, honestly, I forgot about it faster than I noticed, if you're coming from something like oculus controllers, you really come to realize how little the capacitive sensors do, they only really notice if your finger is on the trigger and bend it slightly, or notice if your thumb is curled or not. It's one of those things you forget because they didn't do much to behind with.
      But... For someone who has used index controllers, I'd imagine it'd be quite a bit deal not to be able to do much more than point, make a fist, thumbs up, etc

      @@AzeShorts At a MINIMUM countless games have you pointing at stuff & pressing buttons with your index finger... Not to mention the GARGANTUAN immersion hole it leaves for any even remotely social VR experience! I'm 100% with Thrill on this one. Having at least basic capacitive finger tracking to the level of Touch is basically an industry standard REQUIREMENT for a quality modern VR controller. Going above & beyond with Knuckles level capacitive tracking is even better, but the leap from no finger tracking whatsoever to Touch is IMO WAY bigger than from Touch to Knuckles.
      Being able to perform at minimum basic hand gestures in VR is a critical function for interacting with the world in a way that actually feels real. I want to switch from a rift s to a reverb g2 but the controllers seem like an issue for me. Don't care about touch sensors, but if the g2 is going to have noticeably worse tracking than the rift s (which isn't all that great anyway) I would want to use index controllers which would make the setup too expensive for me. Also, as far as I can tell watchman receivers which you need to connect with index controllers aren't available anywhere. Steam controller dongles are discontinued and unavailable, and I can't find vive tracker dongles anywhere but tundra labs who don't have any anymore. The connection hardware is currently the weakest link for using index controllers for anything but an index, and that link may have broken.

    I bought the CV1 and loved it. I bought the RiftS and dealt with blurriness on my non dominant eye due to crappy IPD. I bought the Quest2 and even though my frame rate is great everything in SteamVR stutters when I sidestep or turn, oculus store titles are silky smooth. Support for Oculus and Steam both say it’s not their issue and the forums are full of people with the same issue for a YEAR now.
    I’m done with oculus, once the G2 starts shipping for real I’m getting one and selling all three of my oculus HMDs.

      Are you SURE you hadn't just accidentally set (or forget to change) a higher than expected resolution (& thus were super-sampling) within SteamVR??? (Aka NOT the Oculus app's Link resolution but the resolution set inside SteamVR!)
      Because that's basically ALWAYS the reason for SteamVR exclusive stuttering w/ a Quest!
      If not, all you needed to do to fix this issue was toggle the "Console Visibility" setting in the OculusDebugTool... A quick Google search would have told you that in seconds.
      (It was either that, or caused by an audio bug from a Windows active audio device mismatch, but it was much more likely to be the former if it wasn't just bc you had SteamVR's resolution set too high like a total flipping dingus lol.)

    • @TheWarmotor
      @TheWarmotor 2 роки тому

      @@Cooe. Well that post was a year ago... But no, I'm well aware of the resolution settings on the Oculus app and the Steam VR UI. I'm also familiar with the settings in the nVidia control panel and the stuff in the Oculus debug tool that don't show up in the standard UI. I've been working as a software engineer for the last 24 years and have been developing code and building hardware since I got my first 8bit computer in the early 80s when I was in grade school, also was a day-one adopter of consumer VR when they launched the CV1, so I'm not a dingus that doesn't know how to use google or unfamiliar with how VR works.
      The issue way back when I wrote that original post was due to a bug that got introduced over years of Oculus software and driver revisions bouncing from one headset to another and then again - a fresh windows install and starting over with Oculus and Steam fixed the issue. That still wasn't the last time an update borked my system by changing how Oculus dealt with how some of the finely tuned settings from the Oculus Tray Tool and I had to move over to the first party debug tool - although it's gotten much more functional over the last year anyway. I've also squeezed a little bit more bandwidth over link by moving to a dedicated USB3.2 card on it's own PCIe lane instead of sharing everything with the onboard USB controller.

    By far my biggest worry about this thing has been the fact that I see no tracking cameras anywhere above eye level, which I'm surprised it took this long for me to find someone who expressed this. When you raise your controllers above your head, they should be able to track at least to an extent. That's a damn near deal breaker if you don't have that as far as I'm concerned.

    You should get the whole index kit. First off. This thing isn't a valve index killer. It is just clickbait. The index has 144hz mode for future-proofing. Best controllers on the market. Best tracking. (Not inside out BS that loses tracking sometimes) and just better build quality. The res that the index has is enough. It basically eliminates SDE. Also, the best FOV which isn't too much that distorts (Pimax). So you don't need to get the G2.

    • @Dreadpirateflappy
      @Dreadpirateflappy 4 роки тому

      Never once lost tracking with inside out even with echo arena. and the build quality of the index was terrible when it first released. controller thumbstick issues and straps falling apart on people after months of use.

    • @tigerleon10
      @tigerleon10 4 роки тому +2

      @@Dreadpirateflappy Oh so you are only mentioning the negatives? I do agree that the screen is pretty good. What I can't stand is controllers losing tracking behind or a bit above your head. Inside out isn't reliable compared to laser base station tracking. playing beat saber with my quest + link, for example, I get a bunch of controller disconnects and what not. Really immersion breaking. Same with the FOV. It's not as good as the index. Also, Valve is really good at helping people that got a bad product so whatever you say doesn't matter. RMA works every time.

    • @Dreadpirateflappy
      @Dreadpirateflappy 4 роки тому

      @@tigerleon10 Just as you only mentioned the positives to the index... it was a counter to your comment.
      Inside out doesn;t lose tracking the second you put your hands behind your head, predictive tracking is insanely accurate and gets it right every single time when reaching for weapons etc.
      Something wrong with your quest controllers by the sound of it, with my rift s and quest 2 I haven't ever had a disconnect. neither are perfect headsets, but the tracking is not an issue.
      RMA with Valve is great, but they did release poor quality controllers at first which is at odds to what you said in your original comment.

    • @tigerleon10
      @tigerleon10 4 роки тому

      @@Dreadpirateflappy So... Still not going to agree with all the negatives of the refresh rates, no full finger tracking, not the BEST reliable tracking on the market. Also, it isn't insanely accurate. It might be accurate. For maybe 0,5 seconds then it loses tracking. I've had multiple occasions with both my friend's rift S and my quest when I put it too far behind and above my head, I lose tracking for maybe 1 second and that is making me lose my combo in beat saber. Even guns in Pavlov or any other FPS game I get weird spasms with the scope if the headset can't see the controller.

    I'm still on the HTC Vive. The originally released Vive. I've swapped out the controllers with Index controllers, carried out a lens mod to reduce god rays, purchased the deluxe strap, and the wireless adapter. With the outside in tracking (for me), still being some of the best tracking out there, this is still my fave VR out there.
    I just don't see a reason to upgrade yet. Yes the resolution could be better, but all of the things it does well outweigh the resolution. With super sampling, I'm more than used to the limitations.
    For some reason, I just haven't jelled with any other VR setup the way I have with the Vive. Especially with the tweaks I've made to it.
    One thing I do know, when a VR setup does arrive the does everything my Vive does now, with a higher resolution, I'm in for a treat.

    Pre-ordered mine back in September, but even now I'm still occasionally debating whether I should just drop it and get an Index instead; there are games that simply don't work well with inside-out tracking, no matter what - throwing in Superhot VR or Budget Cuts comes to mind. My quest 2 i still love and the psvr but the g2 truly is the clarity king and the controllers aren't as bad as most youtubers mention they are comparable to quest 2 tracking, quest slightly a lil better if they added 2 more cameras on the top it would be perfect.
