I currently own a Quest 2, Vive Cosmos Elite, Index and a Pimax 8K Plus. Unfortunately, the Quest 2 & Cosmos Elite are both too small for my head(I'm 6' 4 ½" and wear hat size 8.5), so I never use either of those. In case anyone mentions it, I have tried 4 different straps and the 'wide' face cushion for the Quest 2.. as well as I tried the "thin" face cushion for the Cosmos Elite. Unfortunately, there was minimal help. These 2 headsets are just not meant for big & tall people. --- However, I have no problems wearing either the Index or the Pimax(both fit fine). --- I will also say that I hated how limited the FOV is on both of the Quest 2 and Cosmos Elite(feels like you are looking through a pair of kid's binoculars). The Index FOV is noticeable much better. However, the FOV on the Pimax is unbeatable. Such a huge jump over the Quest 2! -- The only downside to the Pimax is the audio quality on the KDMAS(head strap) is horrendous. You have to use your own headphones separately. Whereas the audio quality on the Index is fantastic!
I'm no longer using my Valve Index (because of Godrays and low resolution) and Reverb G2 (because of the WMR nonsense and bugs). I'd like a Varjo VR-3 but my triple 4K OLED setup will have to do for now (sim racing setup).
For me, the chromatic aberrations in the G2 were way too distracting. Overall visual detail is near identical with the G2 and Pro 2, but while the Pro 2 has that glare issue, I'd rather take the Pro 2 over the G2 I think. Some slight softness on the edges is better than colour separation in my books. The Index looked amazing though, just needed more resolution and it would have beaten the other two.
I don't have a headset. But I do have prescription glasses with strong enough lenses that there is chromatic aberration around the edges. Or at least, there was... After about a month of wearing my new, stronger prescription of glasses, I found that the chromatic aberration seemed to disappear. It seems absurd to think the lenses themselves somehow changed, so it must be me that changed. I think my brain has learned to compensate for the color separation. I doubt there is anything special about me in this matter, so I'm sure anyone could do given enough time. That's the thing though... "given enough time" I did it with eyeglasses that I wear all day, every day. But a VR headset is usually not worn all day, every day. So it could potentially take a lot longer for someone adjusting to a VR headset, than it did for me and my glasses. Just know that there may be a fix to chromatic aberration, depending on how much time you spend in VR. I have a different reason for shying away from the HP Reverb G2... It requires Windows. I want compatibility with Linux. And the Valve Index is the only headset I know for sure will work on it. I need to do a little more digging on the Vive Pro 2, and see if there are workarounds for other headsets. If I were happy to stay on Windows, I'd definitely consider getting the Reverb G2, if only for the price combined with the excellent visual clarity. But if I were happy on Windows, I'd also consider getting a Pico Neo 2, or even one of the really cheap Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Money is a significant constraint for me. I don't have enough for all the other things I could spend it on.
@@World_Theory I'm Linux as well. Overall I want the Index but also need better resolution. At this stage I'm waiting to see what the Index2 will be like in the flesh and I'll probably decide which way to go then. Not against building a dedicated Windows box for VR gaming, but would really prefer not to.
Can confirm this to be the exact issue with the G2, had it and immediately the edge to edge clarity is appalling compared to anything else (Rift S, Index....). Sure the centre spot is lovely sharp clarity but that is not always where your eyes are looking, as a VR user that runs sims mainly (Flight/Racing), its just unacceptable. I sold it on within a week of trying it and went back to my Index, i'll take some iffy godrays anyday!
@@davidburns1721 same experience like u, G2 for DCS flight sim, very very bad edge to edge clarity and chromatic aberration to top it off, the center is pretty sharp but the center/sweetspot is extremely tiny. The FOV is absolute garbage even with the reduced thickness of the face gasket. waiting for next gen vr headsets now. DCS in vr is really amazing tho, just needs a proper headset now. returned G2 back to the shop.
@@branchprediction9923 Yup, it is by far the worst edge to edge clarity of any headset I've had or tried, the Index actually turns out to have the best of all. I'm even running a Vive Pro 2 and while I love the colours and clarity, it's edge to edge is not as good plus comfort isn't great either. Just good enough for me to keep using it but I miss the Index comfort and edge clarity 🤷
is it just me that prefers the valve index's picture quality, even though it is low resolution, it's way more consistent if you compare the center and the edges
I mean it’s just you but I just like really high quality stuff tbh man as long as the tracking is good and I have the best quality I feel on top of the world I barely talk in vr anyways so I don’t need the mic just gonna use discord lol
1:52 - this is the biggest issue with G2 - you have great visuals but in a very narrow middle - the sweet spot is so narrow and outside it the screen is a mess. :/ 2:15 - Pro 2 - yes we have rays but this is nothing compared to a mess produced by a G2. Conclusion - let's wait as some company will make Varjo gear for people :)
Had to pull the trigger on the G2 with the Black Friday deal for only $399 USD, with the now better tracking it seems like a no-brainer. Looking forward to the increased resolution & better colors from the Quest 2 (along with better performance & comfort & sound).
Thanks for the comparison. I've got an index and the thing that bothers me most over the og vive is contrast and disgusting glare, with glare compounding the contrast problem. Now I'm thinking about getting the G2 because I mostly play racing games seated so top notch tracking is not my highest priority. I want a headset with proper coated aspherical glass lenses instead of plastic crap.
I may stand corrected but I was always under the impression that you can pair the Valve's knuckles controllers with any PCVR headset if you configure things right with community tools.
You totally can, but its expensive and might seem too complicated for some users, although it does not take long. Basically you'll need two valve dongles (like the ones with the trackers), index controllers and 2 base stations, and that adds up money wise obviously, you then sync the Valve index controllers to your G2 controllers and it works, but you will be using two separate tracking methods. The G2 headset will still use cameras for tracking itself (so its tracking won't improve), and the controllers will use the base station infrared system (which will work with Valve's 1:1 tracking system, which is close to perfection in terms of tracking.
@@azizsidky9456 there is a way to use a Vive/Tundra tracker on the G2 in order to have a full lighthouse tracking. It also runs through a regular SteamVR calibration process meaning there won't be any playspace scaling issue, as there is one with the method you've mentioned
Great comparison. If it wasn't for the chromatic aberration on the Reverb, it would be an easy choice. What was with all the screen tearing on the Vivi pro 2 ?
@@daniel4412 It's great, no problems with visuals... BUT.... outside of the Microsoft Mixed Reality Demo, I don't know how to use it, There is also Steam Environment, when i try to launch a game, it says "Running" but nothing is happening.. I think Pirated steam games that are NOT VR don't work, but non pirated to VR are supposed to convert on the fly?.... Actual VR Free games work fine (tested and Full Screen capable).. There is a 3rd Party program called VorpX, it injects itself into anything you run to push it through the Goggles, i was in the GTA V house in 3D, the problem is that of course you can't see the keyboard wearing goggles to type in the cheat codes, and GTA is not meant to be VR, so faking VR gave headache really fast (game profile not perfected yet) .. In Microsoft Mixed Reality and Steam Environments there is for example a lounge room with a TV, there is a way to get your desktop displayed on there, but how do you go full screen afterwards? NO Idea... I Also have Hyperhidrosis, so the glass fogs up in 15 Minutes, Not for my "Normal" friend though, it's fine for him long enough to Enjoy the Mixed Reality Demo.. (All VR goggles fog up, you have to power them up for 15 minutes before wearing them, then they won't fog up any longer, or use scuba diving chemical solution, someone said wipe with a drop of dish washing detergent, i don't want soap build up though).. 1. If your steam games collection are legal 2. If you don't have Hyperhidrosis (Sweating Disability) 3. You are Tech Savvy Then do buy it... I regret buying mine, I don't have legal Steam games even if they are supposed to convert to VR, and can't afford to buy VR ones, and have Hyperhidrosis.. I miss NVIDIA 3D Vision, I wasted my money on that now that it's discontinued, I loved that so much.. I think Steam knows that the .exe files are modified
i had all of them g2 is great very sharp no glare but the fov is soo low even with the thinest facepad that my eyeballs literally touch the lenses and i still get 96 hfov wich is like looking trough a toilet paper roll, vive pro 2 was good too 117 hfov but had a lot of glare tough not that distracting then i got pixel inversion and htc ignores it even after "repair" they say its nothing wrong but with movement it turned into dk2 SDE and was obviously fauly so i returned it,had the index for a year it was great, glare too but the res is kinda low not too bad tho and finally i bit the bullet and went for the most expensive, the 8kx,similar shaprness maybe a little lower than g2 or vp2 but not that much different no SDE anyway but insane 160 fov, when side by side with a g2 it makes the g2 a complete joke, like a sample of what VR should be and absolutely NO GLARE sure some minor distortion around the edges but becomes unnoticeable after 1 day of using it.
I'm skeptical about the Decagear. There's no way a vr headset from a unknown company can compete with the modern market without the price being over the top or flawed.
still running the og vive for some things and the q2 with a cable for the rest. As things stand I don't see any reason to buy anything else until a.) An HMD with eyetracking comes along, with the ever increasing resolutions it is really required, especially if FOV is also to increase and b.) I don't have to sell off several internal organs to afford a new GPU that's still a considerable upgrade to my current 1080ti.
This confirms something I noticed between the G2 and VP2 - the edge to edge clarity is much better with the VP2 once in the sweet spot. This, in addition to the better overall FOV, makes the VP2 the clear winner for immersion in my opinion. The G2 has been collecting dust.
But the G2 is more clear in this comparison. I can read the line 10 in the eye chart, sharp as a knife with the G2. But line 9 is more blurry in the VP2 than the G2's line 10. EDIT: I just double checked. The G2 is so much better, it isn't even close. What am I missing?
@@totheknee Yes, I think it has been established that the G2 is objectively a bit clearer. I am talking about "Edge to edge" clarity and overall immersion. I think it also really depends on what types of games you play. For sims, I'd still recommend the G2. For almost anything else, I'd say VP2. Also, I definitely wouldn't recommend the VP2 with anything less than a 3080. Here's an experiment: Try Hyperdash on the VP2 with Extreme settings at 120hz, 150 SS. Then try it on the G2. To me, the experience with the VP2 absolutely destroys the experience you get with the G2. This is because the VP2 has better FOV, edge to edge clarity, colors, refresh rate, and of course lighthouse tracking.
Index is better for those who like room scale. But for flight sims and racing, the G2 is king. I’ve had both and their is no doubt the G2 has a better overall image quality. Index is better in a lot of ways, but for simmers, the G2 is better. Also a pain having to reposition sensors when you want to go from a seated VR experience to room scale.
For me I'm sticking with my G2 because I love that sharpness more than anything. I feel like I can focus on the furthest object and it's just as sharp as real life. Looks like the Vive Pro still has that bit of blur. Nice to know it's a decent option though since we can't do everything with the G2 (at least for me the tracking is not usable in Beat Saber).
@@rookless4121 All I can say is the new G2 update appears to solve the problem I had with Beat Saber which was it would lose tracking when swinging all the way down below the waist but since I only have the original G2 I can't say for sure. To get the update you need to buy one of the new ones. It's very tempting at that price but I would want to see a full review of the new tracking first.
Have you ever watched 3D movies with the HP Reverb G2? And if so, is it a good or bad experience? I've been trying to figure out how to watch 3D films, I used to have the Razor shutter glasses, but you can't use it on the newer TVs, and 3D TVs are out.
You capture the clarity problem on the G2 very well at 6:36 it's clear but it just looks a bit fuzzy out of focus and the colors are bit off... Which you don't see on the index or vive pro... In addition to this the G2 has a tiny sweet spot with small FOV and distortion on the edges make the already tiny FOV feel like looking though toilet roll binoculars.
Watched a ton of reviews before this one and I only wish I saw this review before any of the others because this is so much better way to show the differences between the headsets. Although I would really like to see a comparison of the HTC Vive and Vive Pro 2. :) Seems like the improvement in visual clarity is going to be massive and I'm looking forward to getting it.
A great video would be side by side comparison of performance, FPS so we could see the negative side of the higher resolution. I have a G2 and it struggles to get 90 fps. It's great having high resolution but pointless if the performance results in unplayable jerky games.
I see in this comparison Valve Index has less pixels and has god rays, but at the same time the best chromatic aberration pattern and picture quality not that bad because of this factor looks even prettier . Hp Reverb G2 has better clarity but distracting chromatic aberration picture quality. And Vive Pro 2 has some kind of horizontal ribs when you move your head and god rays are here as well. Thanks for the comparison!
right now, the Pro 2 can be had for a really good price so for someone who wants to get into PCVR, doesn't necessarily have the latest PC hardware and wants an out of the box smooth SteamVR experience, a pro 2 +base stations + index controllers I think is a good deal.
This just confirms that my decision to buy the Reverb G2 later this year is the right one. I just wish I could get it as cheaply as people in the US can get it.
You showing a bit of decision bias there? I took out of it that me getting the VP2 (and I'm wrapped with it) was the right decision. If we are both happy then not sure of the purpose of the video?
It's definitely good value for what it is, and now that they're giving out the new fixed cable and steam VR has some updates for button mappings, it's a good time to buy
DONT buy the G2 if you have an AMD motherboard, and tbh even then id recommend against the G2. Owned mine since February and its been nothing but nonstop headaches. I have a B450 and have all the typical issues that all AMD MB users have. Then on top of that had to get my headsets cable replaced within 3 months and I just got the replacement a few days ago. Customer support is slow and parts are constantly on back order. If you dead set on getting it just be warned and ready to want to rip your hair out
@@BB-qp5xo the way I see it, this video provides an objective comparison that each person can interpret based on their individual preferences, and priorities. Everyone's priorities are slightly different. My decision is weighed heavily by image quality, particularly sharpness, and the G2 seems to be the best in that department.
For the price, Reverb G2 is King by a mile! I use it mainly for sim racing, and even though I can still see pixels, it looks pretty sharp. Still surprised no other manufacturers released a gen 2 WMR headset. What happened to Samsung?
It's your king ONLY because of price. Quality wise overall VP2 would be the king due to Resolution, FOV, lighthouse tracking and wireless. Glad you are happy though.
Nice review, I just buy an reverb G2 because I saw the price went down on the official Hp website I guess it would be worth the money to get that sweet resolution. Nice video and you got a new subscriber
I received my G2 last week and can't even imagine what better tracking would be, it has had almost perfect tracking on al the games I've played. Yesterday I paired my Acer WMR controllers to get the extra functionality of the track pad and they are tracked pretty good as well. I can only dream of getting a pair of Valve index controllers and lighthouses and using those controllers with the G2. Awesome videos man!
So you get no issues with the headset itself when tracking? I am thinking of getting it. But concerned teh headset will be weird, not concerned about the controllers though, as I have lighthouses and wands.
@@sethsz3577 none that I can see, I have played Skyrim, project cars and elite dangerous mainly, so Skyrim and all the demos are the ones I use the controllers the most, the headset it self works flawlessly for me. Hope you have the same experience!
Man, you messed me up real bad. Now that you showed us the Varjo headsets I don't even want any of these units. Once the genie is out of the bottle there's no putting it back.
The HP Reverb G2 may not have god rays but it for sure as heck has chromatic aberration around the edges of screen elements. While the index's Fresnel lenses eliminate chromatic aberration but at the cost of having god rays. It's a trade off. Honestly the Vive Pro 2 is a downgrade in comparison because the Vive Pro 2 has a reduced FOV, terrible audio, and cringe-tas-tic microphone. The only positive it has going for it is a Higher resolution display. So when you weight it against the Valve Index the Valve Index comes out a better proposition despite the full kit costing $999 still. Plus HTC is still using the Vive Wands and if you've ever used the Valve Index Controllers you know they are superior to the Vive Wands in almost every way (except when playing beat saber). So yeah I'm not upgrading to either headset, sticking to my Index until something better comes along and by Better I mean doesn't use lenses that have neither glare nor chromatic aberration. Maybe a headset with prismatic lenses (and a IPD adjustment up to 76.5 max) will come out one day and blow my mind but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
vive pro 2 is better than the index, im currently on the fence about giving my index away. i dont use it but i did wait 83 days for it. Pro 2 is the best out of these
I'll be getting Pro 2 today. Upgrading from a Samsung odessy +, this is going to be amazing. If it weren't for the tracking and the chromatic aberration on the G2, i would go with that instead. The valve index is a bit old by now and oculus (oh, i mean "Meta") headsets, well its owned by the company who was formely known as Facebook so no i'll never by a headset from them. Vr headsets are in a weird sport right now and don't have a lot of choice if you value base station tracking (without fiddling around to get them working on wmr headsets)
5:34 Anyone notice on the edges for the Vive Pro 2, that there is a wave effect possibly due to anti aliasing but wasnt present in the other headsets? Some kind of screen tearing?
I didn't like the G2 tacking, wanted the index tracking and think it looks better at the edges of the screen with higher field of view also where the G2 is noticeably limiting.
Have you considered the black color display quality on LCD screens? I am considering purchasing the Vive Pro, as it uses an OLED screen instead of the LCD screen on the Vive Pro 2. Have you conducted any tests on this matter?
I can see that the vive pro have more resolution than G2. While the G2 clearly shows to be sharper, that is a byproduct of better lenses matching the display. G2 dies show pexelation showing resolution limits while Vive pro shows no pixelation just none proper lens matching..
I really want to get into VR but the market seems all over the place, every headset seems to have flaws wether it be glare, low resolution/blurry imagery, poor tracking or simply just poor contrast levels depending on if they're LCD, LED etc personally for me I can't justify the price for such trivial problems and my current logic is it maybe better to throw that money into my pc and upgrading it for when they finally master VR headsets 🤞
I feel the same way. I've had a PSVR headset for a few years now, but I wanted something with more freedom to use on my PC. I've been lying awake at night going over in my head hundreds of youtube review videos I've watched. Today I just bit the bullet and order the HP Reverb G2 from HP's website. My main thing is resolution, and it seems to have the best. I absolutely don't like "God Rays", to me that's less desirable than blurring of the edges, but I guess we'll see when I get it. I think that's why I a lot of people have multiple headsets though; they buy one, then find out there's another that doesn't have the one or two flaws theirs has, but then THAT one is missing something, so they buy another, and another, hoping to find the "holy grail" of headsets, which I don't believer exists....yet.
I read that you can use the lighthouses and controllers from the Valve Index on the HP Reverb G2. Is this true? I just ordered a Reverb G2 set from HP's website today, and was considering getting the lighthouse boxes and controllers from the Valve Index to use with my Reverb G2 if I decide I don't like the HP controllers.
I'm on the waiting list for the decagear/deca-air combo upgrading from the HTC Vive cosmos elite. My bigest bugbear on the cosmos was it let in a lot of light at the bridge of the nose.
@@mixedrealityTV yeah,I can coast with what I have for a year no probs. I haven't prepaid (that's just a dumb move) Ideally I will get the verdict from creators like yourself before I pony up hard cash.
Looking at the RGB convergence crosses, there is still lots of misalignment between the base colors. I don't understand why we cannot get a convergence adjustment to fix this...
G2 is sharper at its center but off center it goes blurry quicker than pro 2. Like if you are driving and look to the side for scenery maybe then pro 2 would look sharper. And g2 has that chromatic thing too. Seems like a tough choice. I would buy both and return the other if i was choosing between the two
The Index is basically king in every category except resolution because it's starting to show its age. I would still recommend it but really I'd try to wait for the 2nd Index to come out, for its wireless capabilities and hopefully better resolution. The G2 reverb...I wanna recommend it but it doesn't have good fov like the Index (and you can tell). But the main reason not to get it is because of it's not very good tracking and then no capacitive sensors in the controllers (even though almost every vr controller has them). So like the Index I'd wait for another version to come out, especially for this one. Then for the Vive idk, it doesn't check all the boxes like an Index except its better resolution so if you just care about the resolution and having lighthouse tracking go for this. (If you're wondering if there is a way to make the G2 better...you can't pair it to Q2 touch controllers with the inside-out-tracking but with the Index's controllers, lighthouses, some dongles, and messing around you can make this the end all, be all, out of all the headsets here you're just sacrificing fov from an Index)
Hello. I read and read various articles and comparisons all the time. I'm looking for these relevant googles. I care about tracking my whole body. I would also like to have good colors and for everything to go smoothly. Which googles will be suitable? i would love to play games like zenith
Nice review! I would go for the G2 if it wasn't for my large IPD of ~70.5mm. In my opinion the different IPDs and face forms should be mentioned more on reviews. A lot of people - especially men in northern Europe and North America - have a larger than average IPD as they are generally larger than average. To my knowledge the max IPDs are: G2 = 68mm Index = 70mm HTC Vive Pro 2 = 70.5mm (I read it can go a bit further than that in reality, ~72mm)
@@lucasjohnson6 yea, but I read pros and cons about both Pimax and Vive. I generally like HTC and dislike Chinese conpanies so I wenr for the Vive Pro 2. If I ever decide to go for a real upgrade it will likely be the Varjo Aero or another next gen headset, maybe the Index 2 or so
I have a g2 looking to switch headsets. My issue is with the windows mixed reality kills resources and results in many crashes. To the point I cannot run full res on most games. I have an i7 7700k 16 gb ram and 3070.
I've got a lenovo explorer and I'm looking into the g2 v2 or vive but not sure how worth wild it is but better tracking would be nice though all these headsets have better but g2 v2 is only a little better. Also would love to know the difference in picture quality from lenovo to reverb g2
When you say the G2 has worse tracking, are we talking about the headset or the controllers (or both)? As I want to get this to replace the vive pro and still use my wands etc. But does the G2 headset itself track perfectly like the others when its in its correct lighting conditions?
I've not noticed any issues with the headset tracking. The issues I've had with the controllers were when they get outside the cameras' field of view, mainly throwing things.
HP Reverb should stop using fresnel lens, that should improve the peripheral view, in addition the issues with AMD video cards have to be finally resolved. After that HP reverb g2 (maybe G3 after the changes) could be the game changer for VR.
I had a HP Reverb G2 and sold it recently cos I couldn't get it to run, even when I tried everything. Was looking at getting HTC Vive Pro 2 since I've still got my original HTC Vive. Wishing it wasn't so ridiculously expensive.
Hi Sebastian great video, confirmed my decision to go with a G2. I wear glasses, what prescription lenses do you recommend for the G2. I used VR Optician for my Quest 2 and have been happy but there is a big wait for those right now last I heard. I am in the US btw. Thanks!!
I am surprised nobody talks about the screen quality itself. I can't talk for other headsets but, I find the contrast ratio of the LCD panels within the G2 abismal... Watching a movies or play games with dark scenes you get horrible grey scale banding, crunched blacks and overal a complete lack of detail in dark areas. Black is grey. That ofcourse deminishes if you play games that dont feature a lot of dark scenes and I would go nuts with lower resolution headsets. Screen door effects are distracting for me. But since I play Sims mostly the reverb g2 overall is still the best value/resolution wise. I wish they would release a OLED version with the resolution of the G2 for a similar price... oh and bloody hell is the G2 hard to drive with the humongous resolution that steamvr has to render ~3100x3100 PER EYE! (To compensate for the lenses). VRSS should help fix that but not many sims implement such techniques. Having a 2080 super even then I am struggling. Probably only the 3080 or similar would be the way to go for the full fat experience.
Great comparison! But the prices in my country: Reverb G2 $730 (popular, available in a lot of markets), Valve Index $1575 (very rare), Vive Pro 2 $1935 (just like the Index, but we can't buy the full kit, we have to buy everything separately, even the base stations and controllers are sold separately and they worth as much as the whole headset...). Pretty cursed opportunities. I want to replace my Rift S because i hate the low resolution, and seems like i'll pick the Reverb G2. I like the VP2 but it's damn expensive, so not worth the money.
If you lower the fov in steamvr the vive pro 2 pixel density increases. I use vive wireless with 87 fov and is very clear don't see a noticeable difference between wired or wireless now.
I'm using a Quest 2 only because Valve needs to update the Index HMD. The Index at $1000 is just not a good value proposition in 2021 not when Quest 2 is only $300 and has a better IQ HMD. I considered the G2 but I'm on an all AMD system with a 5600x and a 6800XT and I want a VR solution that works well for ALL gaming applications not just sims.
I do own a quest 2 (dont kill me) that I use for play but even with the low ress i found it useful for work normally I use a multimonitor setup (5 screens) said that I want another headset where I dont care about trackinng/standalone/battery etc, I mostly care about image quality for proyect my desktop so I guess my choice should be HP G2
I love the sharpness due to resolution of the G2 but I prefer the Index's wider sharp field of view. The G2 just gives me too much tunnel vision. I think the Vive Pro 2 might be the better replacement for my original Vive at this point in time, as it seems to strike that overal balance between high resolution and wider sharp field of view. However the glare of the Vive Pro 2 or Index aren't an option either, and I don't want the tunnel vision either of the G2. In short. I'll wait for the next generation.
Which headset are you using right now?
G2
I love my Vive Pro 2
I'm no longer using my Valve Index (because of Godrays and low resolution) and Reverb G2 (because of the WMR nonsense and bugs). I'd like a Varjo VR-3 but my triple 4K OLED setup will have to do for now (sim racing setup).
I'm on the G2. Almost all of my initial issues cleared up when I set my AMD board to Gen 3 PCI. Heavy bass still makes it freak out though. 🙄
"given enough time"
I did it with eyeglasses that I wear all day, every day.
You mean a bigger sweetspot?
I mean it’s just you but I just like really high quality stuff tbh man as long as the tracking is good and I have the best quality I feel on top of the world I barely talk in vr anyways so I don’t need the mic just gonna use discord lol

@@yepisme455 yes if that means sharpness but also the color aberration (yellow/cyan distortion)
1:52 - this is the biggest issue with G2 - you have great visuals but in a very narrow middle - the sweet spot is so narrow and outside it the screen is a mess. :/
2:15 - Pro 2 - yes we have rays but this is nothing compared to a mess produced by a G2.
I dont whether to get index or g2. its my first pcvr rig i just want o play half life!! no multiplayer or beatsaber crap

You will love the G2
What was with all the screen tearing on the Vivi pro 2 ?

i had all of them g2 is great very sharp no glare but the fov is soo low even with the thinest facepad that my eyeballs literally touch the lenses and i still get 96 hfov wich is like looking trough a toilet paper roll, vive pro 2 was good too 117 hfov but had a lot of glare tough not that distracting then i got pixel inversion and htc ignores it even after "repair" they say its nothing wrong but with movement it turned into dk2 SDE and was obviously fauly so i returned it,had the index for a year it was great, glare too but the res is kinda low not too bad tho and finally i bit the bullet and went for the most expensive, the 8kx,similar shaprness maybe a little lower than g2 or vp2 but not that much different no SDE anyway but insane 160 fov, when side by side with a g2 it makes the g2 a complete joke, like a sample of what VR should be and absolutely NO GLARE sure some minor distortion around the edges but becomes unnoticeable after 1 day of using it.
Sebastian, thanks for your hard work. I have a question, any news on the Deca Gear? Will you test them when are coming out? Keep the Good content.
he said in his livestream yesterday there is still no new news
I'm skeptical about the Decagear. There's no way a vr headset from a unknown company can compete with the modern market without the price being over the top or flawed.
I'm way too poor to update from my Index, it's very much good enough. I'll wait for the Index 2... or 3.

This confirms something I noticed between the G2 and VP2 - the edge to edge clarity is much better with the VP2 once in the sweet spot. This, in addition to the better overall FOV, makes the VP2 the clear winner for immersion in my opinion. The G2 has been collecting dust.
do you have both?
@@atriusvinius319 Yes
If I wasn't so broke. I'd ask to buy the Reverb from you.
The valve index really still is probably the best vr headset
Happy Index user here too. I'm only excited for the Index 2 right now.
No it's not.

With the update that the G2 had is it any better for Beat Saber?

Just bought the Reverb G2 from HP for a steal (389USD)! Shows up Friday and I am excited.
A great video would be side by side comparison of performance, FPS so we could see the negative side of the higher resolution. I have a G2 and it struggles to get 90 fps. It's great having high resolution but pointless if the performance results in unplayable jerky games.
I run G2 on RTX 3090 and it's all good with exception of SW Squadrons, where I have to tune down graphic settings a little bit down. :D
@@ThorvaldsenCZ do you think a 3080 10GB would give a good experience similar to the 3090?
@@joshnlevinson 3090 is indeed superior, but 3080 Ti is comparable, but with less memory, which can be critical in some intensive VR games.
Periphery on the VP2 is much, much clearer. The Reverb has a nice clear middle, but gets fuzzy very quickly when you view edges.
I still have the OG Vive which I bought about 5 years ago. Yesterday I ordered the Pro 2 … I’m so keen for it
Great informative vid as always Sebastian. A very much trusted vr reviewer.
Thank you, this is what I looking for. Having htc vive 2016 but not sure if I should upgrade.
What would you choose for a flight simulator? What is more important, the resolution or the FOV?
5:34 Anyone notice on the edges for the Vive Pro 2, that there is a wave effect possibly due to anti aliasing but wasnt present in the other headsets? Some kind of screen tearing?
I didn't like the G2 tacking, wanted the index tracking and think it looks better at the edges of the screen with higher field of view also where the G2 is noticeably limiting.
Not sure about the method used for focusing when testing for resolution.
The controls take this product to another level.
Awesome review. Thanks!
The G2 looks the clearest even tho the Pro 2 has higher resolution
Have you considered the black color display quality on LCD screens? I am considering purchasing the Vive Pro, as it uses an OLED screen instead of the LCD screen on the Vive Pro 2. Have you conducted any tests on this matter?
This was ridiculously helpful. Thank you.
I can see that the vive pro have more resolution than G2. While the G2 clearly shows to be sharper, that is a byproduct of better lenses matching the display. G2 dies show pexelation showing resolution limits while Vive pro shows no pixelation just none proper lens matching..
Wonderful comparison. I just want to use only for watching videos and movies, no game. I'm definitely go for HP Reverb G2. Thank you.

Vive Pro 2 has modification available that will allow a lens without glare to be installed, but I hear it results in greater eye strain.
G2 is sharper at its center but off center it goes blurry quicker than pro 2. Like if you are driving and look to the side for scenery maybe then pro 2 would look sharper. And g2 has that chromatic thing too.
Seems like a tough choice. I would buy both and return the other if i was choosing between the two
Question, can one do a lens mod? like would it be possible to replace the lenses on the pro 2 yourself?

Nice review! I would go for the G2 if it wasn't for my large IPD of ~70.5mm. In my opinion the different IPDs and face forms should be mentioned more on reviews. A lot of people - especially men in northern Europe and North America - have a larger than average IPD as they are generally larger than average.
To my knowledge the max IPDs are:
G2 = 68mm
Index = 70mm
HTC Vive Pro 2 = 70.5mm (I read it can go a bit further than that in reality, ~72mm)

The issues I've had with the controllers were when they get outside the cameras' field of view, mainly throwing things.
do you see those black lines that are moving through with your actual eyes or is that something the camera is picking up?
Just camera.
HP Reverb should stop using fresnel lens, that should improve the peripheral view, in addition the issues with AMD video cards have to be finally resolved. After that HP reverb g2 (maybe G3 after the changes) could be the game changer for VR.
Needs lighthouse tracking or better (Quest 2 like) inside outside tracking.

Sure.
Hey Sebastian, any input on Valve Index 2? Have you heard any rumors about the next gen from Valve and what we could expect for 2022?
Hi, I have just heard the same rumours than most of us...Deckard!
Thx great video
If you lower the fov in steamvr the vive pro 2 pixel density increases. I use vive wireless with 87 fov and is very clear don't see a noticeable difference between wired or wireless now.
What level PC is recommended to run these?
Looks like G2 has the Clearest Picture without Godrays.
Sheesh man. You just convinced me to save 450 bucks and go with the G2. Great video. Thank you!
You are welcome!
So which did you get cause I’m running the same graphics cards? The quest or the index?
The tracking experience is one of the most important factors for me.
And, can the Pro 2 have the lens mod applied?
No , but it would be great if we could find a way to do it
I thought it was my prescription lenses were the ones causing the glare with my Index
Hey i just got the vive pro 2 and it is blurry i tried everything my reverb g2 is wayyy better i dont understand
VP2 looks like it have problem with the screen... i can see wierd lines stuter
Strangly, i see more fine details with the g2, than I do the vive pro 2
I love the sharpness due to resolution of the G2 but I prefer the Index's wider sharp field of view. The G2 just gives me too much tunnel vision. I think the Vive Pro 2 might be the better replacement for my original Vive at this point in time, as it seems to strike that overal balance between high resolution and wider sharp field of view. However the glare of the Vive Pro 2 or Index aren't an option either, and I don't want the tunnel vision either of the G2.
In short. I'll wait for the next generation.
