Tecovas Boots Review

- Tecovas is a brand I've wanted to cover for a while, as the only direct to consumer cowboy boot brand I know of. The traditional retail model is dying in favor of the superior direct to consumer model which allows us to get better quality for the money by eliminating the layers of markup.
For this review Tecovas sent me four pairs of boots on loan.
I can say that all of these boots are constructed in the same manner with a 3/4 Goodyear welt, lemonwood pegs, and leather stacked heel.
The boots are available in either a roper or cowboy style, with the roper having a shorter shaft and block style heel. The cowboy style comes with more ornamental piping on the shaft and a beautiful tapered (sometimes known as cuban) heel. Which one is your style is entirely personal preference as they're both essentially the same in their construction methods.
So if you're like me and a little apprehensive about rocking cowboy boots, I recommend checking out their waterproof suede boots in a roper style. You'll get the comfort and benefits of a cowboy boot in a much less conspicuous style that just might be the gateway to your new favorite boots!

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better. - Навчання та стиль

Mexico has been manufacturing high quality products for years.
especially boots
They just suck at advertising it.
Amen!
Made in Mexico is not a bad thing with boots.
You’re absolutely right
If you like Tecovas, you'll love Cuadra's. Please check them out if you get the chance :)
We invented cowboy boots, and it is cheap if you guys go to mexico and order customs boots with measurements to your feet and while you are there go to a local jacket shop match your boots also with a custom made jacket made to your body size. Everything with the highest quality and less than 1k
@@rigocornejo6003 not trying to argue but I did a research. Cowboy boots was not invented in Mexico. Sorry
Just google it
I have Tecovas and Cuadras and while Tecovas are very comfortable in my opinion Cuadras are superior in quality and craftsmanship, and by the way both boots are made in Leon.
Leon is Mexico's capital city of leather crafts. Only good stuff there.
Siempre hay escepciones a la regla amigo, saludos
Lies.
May be a lot of good but I was severely disappointed with the boots I got from Tecovas and every other Leon made boot I've ever owned.
@@TheMidnightModder sure....
I am sure that's why so many companies source from them...
@@Yes-ml4bw Do I need to take pictures of all of my leon Mexico made boot defects and send them to you? 🤣
I said what I said and I stand by it.

Lol. GTFO
Grew up in a small town in Mexico only dreaming about being able to afford a decent pair of cowboy boots when the most common brand was 7Leguas and the best of the best was Montana, glad to see that finally good marketing went down to the source of excellent crafstmanship to make great and affordable footwear .
Absolutely! These will be a gateway boot for many who'll realize how comfortable and cool looking cowboy boots can be.
I was a skeptic of Tecovas. I finally decided to try a pair. They are in fact everything they say. Extremely well made, and great fitting. I'm going to buy two more pairs.
I just purchased my second pair of tecovas 🤙🤙🤙
You guys buy roper or cowboy?
I bought cowboy
That's so encouraging 😶
do they really have a leather insole? I can't really find a definitive answer for that
Me: "Carl came out with a new video!"Wife: "Put your wallet away!"
Hahaha!
Funny af
Carl Murawski, get a heel jack. 7 bucks at a redwing store. Grabs the heel for you while standing to take well fitted Wellington/western boots off
Yeah dude I just got two pairs of tecovas worth 1000 dollars for 70 dollars for both from my dad who is in management and is friends with one of the factory owners
@@CarlMurawski how do you cope with no traction up front?
Hey Carl, as a fellow guy from CT that loves cowboy boots and quality shoes in general, thanks for the great review. I am going to order a pair in the roper style.
One really great features that you pointed out is the fact these boots are constructed with a cork foot bed, a feature found in higher quality footwear. This sets them apart from even some of the more expensive, better known cowboy boot brands out there.
Ostrich is one of the softest and toughest leathers you can get. The clean up very nice even when they scuffed and scratched
Not a bad video for a Yankee 😉
Here's the difference between cowboy and roper style boots from a native Texan.
Cowboy boots = better for horse work, roper boots = better for walking around
Cowboy boots has a higher heel so it stays in stirrups better, also may have a taller shaft to help protect from brush when riding.
Roper boots are more meant for walking/ working so the higher heel isn't needed.
Thank you for the clarification! That makes a lot of sense, and you schooled this Yankee!
stays in the stirrups better ....well yes. but the smooth forefoot sole is so you more easily kick out out of the stirrups and from the horse in case you need . The cut away / tapered heel is called a "riding heel" the nook of that slant is what’s going to help keep the boot in a stirrup. This type of heel is known as an underslung heel. And because there’s no relatively sharp, 90-degree angle at the back of the heel, it’s gentler on the horse since there’s less friction and thus discomfort. also accommodates different types of spur rowels
Mistero Gee I think anyone that’s familiar with ranching, horse and cattle work would know the difference.
@@taylorelsner6332 Absolutely. I ranched for 35 years. Boots are a necessity. The RIGHT boots for the right task are also paramount.. Western riding work, trail, rope etc. 'mostly' dictates you ride "shallow in the stirrup" meaning you plant the balls of your feet (leather soles) on the stirrup with toes pointed forward. Again this allows you to dismount/kick free/ disengage yourself in case of horse stepping in hole or getting startled and bucking (any number of mishaps). Western Cutting horse riding is a wider legs, feet deep in the stirrup with toes pointing out. We never allowed guest to ride in any type of rubber soled shoe. My wife will add the smooth soles are better on the dance floor as well. Everything on a real cowboys attire is based in function. Hat for sun and rain protect and collecting water. Bandana for MANY uses tourniquet, washrag, dust mask etc. leather chaps for brush & thorn protection and so on.
Mike BXB. Exactly! That’s why it cracks me up when people wear western attire for the look. Yeah, it looks good but what I or you and your wife wear and others like us wear. I consider it tools of the trade if you will.
Thanks for the awesome review! My birthday is later this month and I’ve been eyeing Tecovas for over a year now. It’s awesome to finally see a quality review from a trustworthy source. Keep the great work coming!
Thanks for watching! I think you'll be really happy with these, they're excellent.

Appreciate this review....Never had thought about boots like these until I saw the Tacovas the other day...been eyeing them every since.....you may have just sold me on them. Thanks👍
"Please don't wear them with shorts. For the love of God don't wear them with shorts." lol Agreed. Wholeheartedly
Its so hard to find a good videos about western boots, but this is one of the best I’ve seen. I too have some cognac full quill ostrich ropers and some black iguana skin cowboy boots. Sure some people mock western boots, but only because they don’t “get it” or haven’t ever tried some on. I love the history as much as the boots and your intro section was spot on. Saved to my favourites list on here 👍🏻
I was introduced to your channel by over 40 style and must say I love your videos. Great reviews and wonderful stuff. Thanks
Thank you so much!
Great review. Ostrich is a wonderful material for footwear as it’s super soft and yet incredibly hard wearing. I have a pair of hand made cowboy boots made in the US in 1985, the ostrich skin still looks brand new to this day. I’m very tempted by their deep brown alligator boots, incredible price for that skin.
A genuine review. Truly is refreshing. Unbiased. Keep it up. Review some

This video made me, a guy from Maine, want cowboy boots. Great work carl
I’ve recently began wearing roper and cowboy boots. I own a few El Dorado’s and Lucchese’s and these actually seem of very high quality as the ones I’ve mentioned.
Wearing high quality boots has helped my back pain immensely as well. I actually feel more comfortable wearing cowboys boots than running shoes.
Great review! I will definitely be giving Tecova a try.
Cowboy boots have been the most comfortable things I have ever worn.
I've been wanting to go back to wearing them (good quality ones) for a while.
Thanks for the review. I've been eyeing a pair of the caimans for a long time.
I've worn Cowboy boots my whole life, so almost 40 years. As someone who doesn't wear boots, I think you still did a very good review. I've worn Tony Lama exclusively for years but, I will give Tecovas a try based on your review.
Thank you very much! That means a lot coming from someone experienced in this style of boot. 👍🏼
They’ve become a staple in Texas pretty much. Everyone I’ve met owns at least one pair of Tecovas. They have also started opening stores in cities, which allows customers the chance to see them in person before buying too.
Very insightful review and holy moly, I guess I'm picking these up when I start working again in the summer 😍.
Love it! Thanks, Carl! I sure wish I could find someone who reviews women’s wear as well as you do men’s. Passing this info & your channel on to some guys who need the help. 😄
Thank you! I'm considering making a video on some of the items I've bought my wife but she doesn't want to be on camera!
Own 4 pair. Including the Pecan Lizard that you show. I started wearing Tecova’s when they hit the market. I have not been disappointed whatsoever. I have other brands of boots, but Tecova’s are the most comfortable I own.
I love western boots. I’ve been wanting a pair of the earls. Keep up the fantastic videos.
Thanks man! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by these.
I recently purchased a pair of Tecovas with the side zip in black and they are sweet. The fit and quality are superb.
love my Tecovas. I have the Earl in bourbon. Comfortable right outta the box, no break in. worth every dime.
Awesome review man, thanks for all the details !
Thank you for watching!
.....and to the original poster.. I love my Tecovas.. Leon, Mexico makes many "better" boot companies boots. Great video Carl!
"You just gotta rock 'em with confidence..." The Texas way. Great video, Carl!
Thank you sir!
Have many pair of cowboy boots. My Tecovas are my favorite pair. Very comfortable and I always get comments how good they look.
Just received my first pair or Tecovas ropers this week and they are definitely the most comfortable boots I’ve owned.
Pretty amazing right??
Yes they are!!
As you can imagine I’ve been biased to Justin boots over the years 😂
Just got the Cartwright, great boots. Very comfortable and fit true to size. I was worried ordering on line but am totally impressed.
Yep, same here. Nice and snug but not tight or painful. I usually steer away from round toe boots but they're A ok.
@@gnarl12 So if i wear a 13 in tennis shoes right and in boots i wear usually a 12-11 you still think a 13 would be good?
@@tuckerhilbers460 generally i went .5 a size down (my normal size in shoes is 12) between 3 boot brands, of the ones i’ve tried on, for justin i could fit into a 11, ariat a 11.5, durango a 12, but probably could have fit into 11.5
Thursday boots are the same business model. Just purchased the" Rogue", which is a Jodphur boot. This a 10 star company . The order process, the delivery time, the quality control, sizing. the packaging, & any other thing you can think up. I NEVER,NEVER ,get impressed by almost anything. IN this case, I was very impressed by every aspect of the company & the product. 10STAR
I’ve become a big fan. I buy all the things you review 😊
The roper boot is the gateway drug into western boots. And yeah, it’s become a bit of a problem....went from ropers in simple calf leather to snip toes in Caimen and lizard.... I’ve had an excellent experience with Tecovas and I’ve dealt with more than a few western boot makers lol. Their boots are really great and customer service is outstanding. Great review too!
Thank you very much! I agree, I was a little hesitant and wore the ropers in the beginning. Flash forward a few weeks and I’m looking at the cayman cowboy boots because these are so great! Gateway drug indeed!
Doesn’t matter were it comes from Leon Guanajuato M.X. is the capital of quality shoes
Dude, great video. And I love the shirt. Thank you!
Thank YOU for watching! That’s a Taylor Stitch shirt from a few years back. I love it
Just found your channel. Digging the content. Been wanting to try these boots for a few years now. Great review!
Thanks brother, just checked out yours too. Love the name!!
Carl Murawski thanks man, let me know if you ever need some beard oils. Happy to send you some stuff I have reviewed.
Awesome! I'll take you up on that when I grow it out for the cold season. Thanks man!
We are about to be some New England cowboys! Count me in! Love the stacked heel
Haha, I like the sound of New England cowboys!!
Just ordered a pair of Pecan Lizards before watching this video- now feeling better than ever!
You're going to love them!
Thanks for the video. I am looking for get my first pair of western boots. This is a brand that I found and the site and return policy looks good to me. Your glowing review is really helpful. Can't decide on the Jackson or Cartwright though. Looking for something easy to pair with jeans and nicer then sneakers and casual shoes.
Just had my first pair of Tecovas delivered today. I am not ready to say much about them, but the packaging was beautiful and the boots looked amazing. They seem to fit perfect and I am looking forward to rocking these boots everyday in the office
Awesome! Do you agree that they’re especially comfortable out of the box? Please keep me updated with how your like them as they break in!
Great review, Carl. When I bought my first pair of Nokoma cowboy boots I also bought a boot jack. It really make s taking your boots off very easy. Anyway my next pair of boots will be the Tecovas in ostrich . I was going to buy them in black but that pecan is an awesome color.
Good call on the boot jack!
When I saw this pecan color I fell in love, and it’s just as striking in person. Let me know how you like them!
I've got the ostrich cowboy boot in chocolate. Great boots.
Great review! Just ordered The Dillon in Caiman and a pair of The Penny for my wife!!!
Very informative, thanks for the video! 👍🏽
That intro was outrageous!
I've been wearing cowboy boots for years. I was also skeptical of Tecovas. It sounds like I should give them a try.
Amazing video very well made you need more subscribers!!!!!
Really nice and Such well made boots 👍🏻👍🏻. Awesome well done video.
Can you post an update after having them for a while? How did they hold up? Is it easier to get in/out of them now? How do they look?
Terrific review! Have a question though. Are they full grain leather? And are they veg tanned or chrome tanned?
Do they make a tall profile boot.Leather any thing coming out of Mexico is good quality their known for doing leather
Great review! Very nice pair of boots.
I love them still, they’re fantastic
Those are really nice going out on the town boots my favorite is Olathe boots and Hondo cowboy boots
I've been wearing Justin's for years, I think my next pair will be a pair of these bad boys! I've never seen these out west in Wyoming!
The Justin work boots are really popular on the job site and guys swear by them, I'd never seen a steel toed cowboy boot before!
Carl Murawski, Justin’s and Ariat’s are very popular work boots in my neck of the woods in Louisiana. Handful of red wing and other higher tier brand pecos. Down here, you almost never see a lace up on a work site that requires boots.
You will be so happy with the quality and affordable price, trust me

Use the tabs or circle on top of shaft to help assist putting on and a boot jack for taking them off most boot dealers has boot jacks on site for sale.
I have two pair. One pair of ropers and a pair of regular cowboy boots. I LOVE them.
Aren't they great??
Any chance of a long term update with them?
Feedback on the feel between the cowboy and roper? I have three pair of Tecovas ropers, but am curious as to the difference in feel/gait between the two patterns.
Hard to explain. Definitely feel different due to the higher heel, but that’s about it.
I have three pairs of Tecovas. I love them so much
Can you use tecovas for outside work, I’m a landscaper.
Thanks for replying back man. Ill walk in them little more
I have a pair of black Lizard that I've been wearing for the last five months. They wear very nice and are confortable.
Love mine in light Camin(sp) we have a store here in Nebraska, so I was fitted and had a nice drink. Extremely over the Top customer service even gave my Dan post ostrich boots a clean when getting fitted. Normally I’m a redwing heritage guy. As I oversee a lot of data centers. Hi. Great Video. Have you seen the Cuervo Cowboy Boots? I just bought their Jake Roper Boot in Wheat Suede.
Excellent video. Thank you very much!
How do you not slip in those,is it somehow slip resistant? Beautiful boot.
I’d wear them when going out but I don’t know if I’d work in them
Love how you talk about not wearing cowboy boots with shorts at least as when about men. I almost on the floor when I see grown men in shorts with boots. I want to scream out what a Hoosier. No malicious intent to residents of Indiana. Very informative and great looking boots.
Hahaha thanks man!

Ironically, I life in CT too, and I was concerned for wearing them, but I bought them and they are really really nice boots, the quality is amazing, they are not an ordinary boots, they are the boots.
So soft and comfortable.
Great review. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Thanks. Great detailed review for non-Southerns.
Damn good review!
You look good in the boots. I have been corresponding back and forth for a few months deciding which pair to get. I have been a Dan Post fan for years, since the pair I originally want to get almost doubled in price. Lucchese 1883 Seville with the square toe. I had the black cherry 20 years ago, now want black not ready to spend $900.00 for them. They fit from the start like bedroom slippers even though were smooth goatskin leather upper. I could walk all day and into the night without knowing they were on. Could even fall asleep with them on because I forgot they were on.
I’m really liking that suede they have, and it’s pretty affordable actually.
It really is, and it’s waterproof!
Very informative. Thank you
Are the boots genuine or full grain leather ?
I know these aren't the best because there is better out there but as far as price, look, quality, the ordering process and return it's pretty good boot. I wear boots all day everyday Stockton for work and roper on the weekend. Great review. Had a question what jeans have you paired these boots with if you dont mind me asking. In the market for a new Jean brand
In my opinion from this video, the ostrich boot styling is on par with the Daltons, great video as always!
High praise!!! I agree.
Thanks so much for the kind words.
My issue with most footwear when trying a brand for the first time is sizing. I have worn everything from a 10-4W to a 13.5 but I usually settle on 11.5 because it's the most comfortable without being snug. I don't like it when shoes fit snugly because having to retie the laces every time you want to put them on or take them off is a hassle. I have to say I'm impressed with the quality considering the price is well below what you'd be paying for White's or Nicks.
The Roper is what I am going to try
3:00 what kind of jeans are those?
the intro is like a country song music video 😂👍🏻👌🏻
Nice Review, thanks. Have a shirt from them. Good quality but runs slim.
Hey Carl! Great video!
I have question. I was thinking of buying the Thursday Duke in exactly the same colour as the one that you did, but since you said they weren’t all that good in the long run, so should I buy these Tecovas instead? Are these better made than the Thursday’s Duke comparatively?
Good question! I’m really disappointed in my Duke chelsea boots, mostly because the insole is pretty much useless and it feels like I’m standing on concrete. This is due to the Poron EVA which is basically just thin foam which looses its cushion quickly.
I do feel that you’re getting more for your money with Tecovas, especially in the comfort department since they use a leather insole which just becomes better with use.
They’re very different boots, but if I had to pick one it would be Tecovas.
Carl Murawski Okay then, thanks a lot!
Agreed, they’re very different boots. But hey, these look absolutely gorgeous, and I’m willing to try them. Thanks again Carl!
