This was sooo cute to see this catalog was before i was born 😂 literally i got into AG in 07' and i saved EVERY SINGLE CATALOG i ever got. My mom thought it was a waste of space but now i adore being able to see the changes throughout the years
your birthday is 1996 rghait 🤗
Ugh nostalgia! I miss these old catalogues and the good old historical doll collections! I have Felicity and Kirsten, but I wish they weren't retired so I could buy all their old outfits!
I love the nostalgia of the old catalogs too! Thanks for watching
Fun fact: Truly Me 13 is the only doll from 1995 to last until 2022.
This was the best era for AG. Everything was so carefully crafted and timeless. I was 9 when this magazine came out and I had three of the dolls! I still have all three plus 10 others. I love all the different dolls the company sells now but the quality and historical/educational value is essentially completely gone. I wish young girls still liked this kind of stuff so the company wouldn’t stop producing it. :(
its ok! you can still find most of the six OG on ebay! although most of the old accessories are gone, you can still find one of those dolls! -Lili
What’s crazy is that American girl still has the same phone number 😂😂
I love listening to young collectors talk about the truly me meet outfits of the 90's, ya'll always sound so perplexed. That one was already out of style by 2 or 3 years when it was released, so it wasn't the height of fashion anymore, but most of us target aged girls still had elements of the outfit in our closets, we just wouldn't put it all together like that. The next three meet outfits were better, either exactly on trend (the big yellow felt jacket, and the one with the nay bue cargo skirt) or aspirational we wished we could have bur few were allowed (the vinyl jumper). Every meet outfit after those has been a head scratcher because i've never seen a kid dressed like any of them unless they specifically were trying to match the doll. I always figured in 2003 AG realized they can force their customers to come back and buy clothes quicker if the meet outfits are as unstylish as possible
Miss the Pleasant Company!
This is SO nostalgic for me! I was 14 when this catalog came out- just breaking out of the target age for the dolls but still loving them as much as ever. In fact, I saved it. My copy of this very catalogue is in my doll room as I type this, the one that came to our mailbox all those years ago. I later saved up my allowance for an AGoT- even cutting out the little square pics and tossing them in the air trying to decide which one I wanted! I remember each new doll that was introduced after the original 3...Felicity was the first to be added when I was just shy of 10. I miss the Pleasant Company era so much! Don't get me wrong- I still buy lots of the new stuff...but it felt a little more special back then when it was smaller and the focus was on the historical characters.
Oh man. I had this catalog!!!! I read it probably a thousand times. I miss the days of getting catalogs in the mail and reading them over and over again.
I have found myself wishing I saved more of my old catalogs! I remember this one, and how exciting it was when the Girl of Today line was introduced, and how I immediately starting thinking about which one I wanted. I recently found her blank books--I only ever wrote the first story, but it's fun to revisit.
The magazine was really good; it had lots of great advice, articles, and stories.
I ran the original price of $82 through an inflation calculator and $82 in 1991 was todays equivalent of $175 😬
Those full-size photos of the dolls are so cool. It was awesome when they had so many pieces available in the historical collections. Now I feel old, but I definitely remember playing that clothespin game at parties.
My mom remembers those like it was yesterday! I just ordered a kirsten doll on ebay i love the 1800 time era. My mom loved the felicity doll but her parents would always tell her they were to expensive, so the next best thing would be a paper doll. I'm a proud owner of 8 american girl dolls. Samantha, Lea, Maryellen, Melody, Rebecca, truly me 88, Julie and Kira. Have a nice day! -Lili
