Top tip is to not bring the amulet of kings to the blade master at the beginning and always avoid the town destroyed by the great gate kvatch. This means no oblivion gates will open and you can play all the side quests to gains some needed items before taking on the main quest with a overpowered character.

Levelling =/= power. Honestly the game is way easier at level 1 with iron weapons and armor than level 50 with daedric enchanted gear and uniques. The level scaling is so intense that if you don't seriously min/max and abuse every single possible advantage you can get + proper levelling, you'll never get stronger past level 1.

I would disagree on this because the DB Quests make you kill members of other Guilds. So if you are a member of that guild you will have to kill a Guildmate. Thats if you are doing a Complete playthrough. So I play Knights of the 9 then DB then Thieves then either Fighter or Mage Guilds. This way as a Noob The Blessing are quickly gathered and Once you are Done you can be Evil as Needed.

If you plan on using magic I highly reccomend going to all of the cities' chapels and acquiring the various Restore Attribute spells that are sold by the priests and random worshippers that are present such as the Restore Intelligence, Restore Strength, and Restore Agility spells.
It's nice to not have to worry about keeping all sorts of different Restore potions in your inventory. Sometimes being debuffed and having no potions/spells can really screw you over plus, IIRC, even sleeping to level up won't remove them.

Unfortunately, I didn't get it finished before my computer died, and I didn't want to start all over from scratch. You're actually partially wrong about the bonus points on leveling. Avoiding sleeping doesn't help. By the time that you get your 10th major skill increase the game has already calculated your bonus points. If you want to delay leveling up to ensure higher bonuses, you must stop leveling up major skills BEFORE you fill up the level up bar. Sleeping has no effect on this.

One addendum I would like to add to this video is in regards to a player home, assuming you don’t have the DLC’s (they’re cheap, I honestly suggest you get them) I would recommend saving the money you have and *not* buying the house in the Imperial City. Because in Anvil, the town most south west on the map, has a home you can buy for 5000 gold, and along with it comes one the better side quests… and in an Elder Scrolls game that’s regarded as having the best side quests, that’s a plus plus!
TL;DR: Don’t buy the house in the Waterfront, go the Count’s Arms in Anvil and buy the house from Velwyn Benirus!
    > It’s 5000 gold, and it’s the best house for the money!

    After leaving the sewers:
    1. Complete the next main quest (deliver the amulet to Jauffre at Weynon Priory) Talk to Prior Maborle on the spot and select the "Assistance" option to get a free horse.
    2. Go on horseback to "Vidasel" where NPC Umbra is waiting for you. Leave the horse near the entrance. Come in, attack the NPC and direct it back to the horse.
    3. Umbra will follow you until Imperial City. Go inside the city and let the guards do the rest.
    4. You will receive Umbra's armor, her sword and shield. You can additionally sell the belongings of fallen guards. There will be a lot of them.

Some tips I have for beginners:
    1. Don't use a tutorial/guide. Play the game however you want to. Do not get too focused on min-maxing, gear, efficiency etc.
You only get to experience it for the first time once.
Figure things out yourself and be amazed at what this 16 year old game has to offer.
    Explore, Explore, Explore!
    2. If you're into min-maxing, pick skills you won't necessarily use as your major skills.
For example: If you want to make a warrior, who wears heavy armour, a sword and a shield, you'd want to focus on speed, strength and endurance.
So pick magic skills as your major skills and maybe add acrobatics to them as well.
Then play as you prefer, but make sure you know how many skills you've levelled to get the maximum amount of points.
Raise both your blunt and blade skills from 20 to 25. That's strength done.
Do this while wearing heavy armour, a shield for blocking and repair your armour yourself.
(Stay away from enchanted armour/weapons until you reach 50 armorer, because you can't repair it yourself)
Once those 3 skills have reached a combined 10 levels, find a corner and jump in it until a message pops up saying you've levelled up.
Sleep and there you have it. +5 to strength, +5 to speed and +5 to endurance.
    3. To first thing you'd want to do is to join the mages guild, the fighters guild and the thieves guild.
The thieves guild gives you acces to a fence, which is super handy to gain some early money.
The mages guild gives you acces to more spells and vendors.
(you can loot all the alchemy supplies in a mage guild and sell it back to them)
The fighters guild gives you some low level quests alongside some decent low level armour, as well as some fairly good weapons like a silver short-sword and a fine steel longsword. (which you can simply grab in the guild master's room in Chorrol)
    4. Stay away from the Dark Brotherhood and Deadric Shrines until you're a higher level. A lot of rewards are level based in Oblivion and while you do not need the max that out, it is a waste to do some of the quests at level 2 rather than level 10.
    5. Like stated in the video, a good start to any character is to join the Arena. It's fairly decent money and a good way to level your skills.
But don't feel the need to grind through it right away. Some fights (like the orc with the glass warhammer, the three argonian prisoners and the Gray Prince if you haven't done his quest) are extremely tough and will cost you more than what you'll be able to earn from them.
Be sure to save before going into the bloodworks. If a fight is too difficult, just come back at a later time. You can only tell the Blademaster you're "Ready for a Match" between 9am and 9pm, but if you've done that you can start the fight whenever you want.
    6. Talk to EVERYONE. I played the game when it came out and I still come across NPC's that I've never seen before who hand me a quest that I've never done before. Most of these are a bit generic, but it's still cool to see.
    7. As @eshingler29 stated, stay away from the main quest for a while. You can bring the amulet to Jauffre (mainly because he has some supplies which are pretty good early on) but do not go to Kvatch. It's kind of like how not getting the Dragonstone for Farengar in Skyrim will delay Dragons spawning all the time, but this time it's Oblivion Gates instead of dragons.
    8. Some creature in Oblivion are immune to normal weapons and can't only be hurt by magic, enchanted weapons, silver weapons and Daedric weapons.
Well, using enchanted weapons can be costly before your armorer is 50 since you can't repair them yourself and Daedric weapons won't appear until you reach level 20. So unless you're a mage, make sure you always have a silver weapon on hand. A dagger would suffice.
(For archers: you need silver arrows, the bow doesn't matter. A silver bow shooting glass arrows won't work, but an iron bow shooting silver arrows will.)

Awesome guide! Just note that the 30 skills points necessary to receive the maximum +5 in 3 attributes will be divided by 20 minor skill ups (10 for each of 2 attributes) and 10 major skill ups for the 3rd attribute. You can mix and match but that gets complicating.
30 major skill ups will actually level you 3 times with only up to +5 in one category (or less but spread out) 3 times.
Keep in mind your 10th major skill up must happen after the 20 minors. That 10th major will trigger the level up and those remaining minor points will go to the following level up and mess up your numbers.

I prefer to join the arena guild and complete it for a good armor set and money advantage, so you can have +3000 septims and can afford most relevant items. I do not recommend picking up dremora maces. They deal low damage, sell for a very lacking price for how heavy they are, and many players get confused between them being daedric weapons. Daedric is much, much stronger than dremora, but come around very late into the game.

4:00 You cannot "hold off" a level by not sleeping, nor can you ever gain 30 major skill points in a level. After gaining 10 major skill points, any skills points earned go towards the next level. So, gaining 30 major skill points would net you three levels upon sleeping.
To efficiently level, one must balance major and minor skill point gains to ensure 10 skill gains across three different attributes. It's worth noting, it's not necessary to throw all your points into one skill, like destruction, for willpower; but that one needs a total of 10 skill increases across the three willpower disciplines - destruction, restoration, and alteration. The video doesn't make this quite clear.
Speaking of the video, some really good information here. Just this one correction. As the dude stated, efficient leveling isn't necessary, but it can be fun if your into that sort of thing. This concept can also be used to effectively control leveling and prevent overlevelling, by selecting lesser-used, easily levellable skills as major skills.

Also if you want a hood to go with that Black outfit go to Gnoll Mountain camp East of Bruma for Grey Mages outfit & hood.

9:25 Probably need to use the persuasion wheel, mostly cause it's really early in the game and most players have yet to start making any serious money. One important thing is that the shack doesn't come with any storage units, you have to either buy them from the three brothers shop or steal then. Not all upgrades can be stolen, the sitting and dining area upgrades must be purchased
The kitchen upgrade can be stolen from Stantus Varrid's private chambers or Tertius Favonius' house. His house is located in the north part of Imperial city, between the guard house and Othrelos' house.
The storage upgrade can be stolen from Luronk gro-Glurzog's basement or Marinus Catiotus' house. Luronk's house can be found in the temple district, Marinus house can be found in the heart of the elven district.
I think the option costs 400 but can be either higher or lower, depending upon disposition and how good your mercantile is vs the brothers mercantile. Sadly you can only buy upgrades from two of the three brothers, both have the same mercantile (60).
One really important thing about the shack is that the crate outside of the shack does respawn items, using it will run the risk of losing whatever items you put there (there's quite allot of safe storages that can be used instead,)

Here’s a good comment you want to look at, always start with a nord you don’t need to only use melee, you will start with a lot of health because of endurance, And it will help you with any build also when you level up you will gain more health depending on your endurance, more endurance more health per level so I recommend starting with nord and choosing the warrior or the lady birthsign and use whatever major skill you want, to avoid underleveling try to efficient level.

In the context of Oblivion assuming we are including shivering isles and knights of the nine, there is an item in the shivering isles which will destroy your stuff which allows you to level up armorer.
Also if anyone plans on wearing the knights armor, give the thieves and dark brotherhood the big ol middle finger, now then onto the armor, if you want to use the armor, again, journeyman and light armor as a primary skill because one of the tiers of light armor is no weight for worn armor.
Another, if you are transitioning from skyrim to Oblivion, argonian might be the best race because there are a number of swimming quests, though the biggest I will say is avoid vampurism because it sucks and if you get the disease at early levels, reload a save.

The Oblivion leveling system makes enemies tougher. If you do not want to use the difficulty slider, you need to keep up with Health (Endurance) and fighting power (skill points).
    1) For beginners there are only two birthsigns to consider The Lady and The Warrior. Both boost Endurance (health points) to help keep you from getting killed. The Lady is the choice for fighters because they are not going to build Willpower through magic use, but are going to build Strength through fighting. Willpower adds to the Fatigue calculation = weapon damage. The Warrior birthsign is for magic races (Bretons and Altmers) and Bow users because they are not going to build Strength through melee fighting, but are gong to build Willpower (or in the Bow user's case not need it. Strength is needed to carry loot. You freeze in place and get beaten to death if you pick up one too many things and are over-burdened.
    2) Custom attribute bonus should be the same as birthsign (Endurance and Willpower or Strength).
    3) Your specialty should match your major skill primary fighting skill (Stealth /bow, Combat/melee, Magic/Destruction, Conjuration. A specialty major skill builds more than twice as fast as a regular skill. Fighting skill counters leveling. Five points per level keeps you even with new enemies, more gives you dominance. These easy points will also go towards attribute bonuses that will help you.
    4) Choose a magic race (Breton, Altmer) if primarily fighting with magic, pick an Orc, Nord, or Redguard for everything else because the high endurance will benefit you more than any bonus from the other races. You can screw around with other races when you get some experience.

having an op character with it higher vs having a weaker character with it lower it literally the same if enemies both take the same hits to die.
you get exp per cast/hit, not per mob so the exp gains is the same. People should just not stress about it if its their first time and just enjoy the game,

@@swilson5320in vanilla when you level up the amount the attributes go up per point is dependant on the skills you increased to gain in level. It makes it so if you increase the wrong skills your mage can get 2-3 less points into intelligence per level which by level 35ish will screw you. As a mage even walking to much and leveling your athletics skills could be the "wrong" skill to get optimal attribute increases.
A simple level fix mod will make it so that no matter what skills you increase to gain a level you will get the maximum amount of attribute increases per point spent. Other variants of the mod will make the attribute increases dependant on class. It's up to you.
I can't think of any names off the top of my head but there are tons, you can even alter an Oblivion .ini file to fix it yourself if you want I believe. I usually suggest people play vanilla first in Bethesda games but in Oblivion the leveling simply straight up broken. A mod like the one I described above will retain the entire vanilla leveling experience minus the skill increase management.

To add to the money making with alchemy, you can make a lot of potions and sell them to various alchemy vendors and then from the same vendors buy their indegriends to make more potions. My top spot is Skingrad, not only are there two Alchemy vendors (one in the Inn in the basement, and one in shop called "All things Alchemical") but there are also large wine fields outside the gates from which you can freely take grapes and make huge amounts of potions from as well. (I believe there is also a small field of tomatoes somewhere next to the city walls)
Another personally good tip is also doing the Umbacano's quest for fetching the statues, not only will you get 500 gold for each statue, you will also get 5500 gold for completing the whole set of 10 statues, provided you take the time to find them all.
Another good tip is killing vampires. There is a small faction you can join after finishing it's small quest called "Order of The Virtuous Blood", and one of the NPCs will buy any and all Vampire Dusts from you at 250 gold.

My takes: I think The Mage is best birth sign. Gives a big 50 extra spell points permanently and even warriors and thieves need as many magika points as possible to heal themselves or go invisible. Really crucial at early levels too. The perks to speed or whatever you easily make up in first few levels and a waste of choice imo.
Also Breton is strongest character to start with since you get permanent magic resistance or 50% !!!! Best race perk in the game by far. Bretons can do anything. They make great warriors or thieves as well as mages. (I admit I like Khajiit when I play just for fun as in get into mischief and create chaos. They just so look the part. Especially the one with the headband that looks totally goofy to me).
Endurance is most important attribute to max since it increases your Health and keeps you alive. Strength (attack and ability to carry more in your inventory), Intelligence (magic points) and Willpower (speed that magic regenerates and resistance to same) are other three to work on early . Agility and Speed afterwards. Luck is way overrated and Personality really isn't much at all.
If you want to power level try to get a full 5 points each early level. Enter console mode (~) on laptop and type tdt and you can see how many points you have been accumulating in each of the attributes. (Enter tdt a second time to remove the data from screen then exit console mode). Try not to get too much more than 10 (that equals the 5 max points) or less than that number (again 5 max points) in 3 of those categories per level. Why not more? Want to leave enough increases for next level and one after etc.
PS: Remember you get 5 training sessions per level. Use them to get to that number 10 in an important attribute.

That is no more Necromancy than animating a broom closet. However, do not misunderstand, Mickey is quite close to the Darkness himself...
To the point, the Darkness is pierced by the Light, no? And the more Light pierces the Darkness the more recompense you should expect from such an aggression yes?
This is the paradox that makes Light and Dark eternal. The Darkness cannot exist in the Light without a vessel of the Light. Sort of like a costume but with sinew, and flesh. And plenty of bone. You really have to reinforce the flesh with the bone to build a strong Abomination. All that meat is quite heavy...
Anywho, the deal is, the Dark uses the vessels of Light to extinguish the Light. So the more creatures of Light, or the more Light condensed into a single creature, the more powerful a vessel of Darkness they become when they have died. And everything dies, just as surely as the Darkness will always come.
Necromancy is simply reaching into the Darkness for more power than the Light is willing to give you, both for your sake, to keep you safe from Dark Purpose, and also to preserve itself. Because no vessel of Light can ever become so strong that it can threaten to extinguish all Light. No species of Light's Purpose can ever be allowed to collectively overwhelm Creation.
Necromancy is seeking freedom from that boundary. For a Necromancer to be created one at the pinnacle of their power and knowledge must turn to the Darkness for what the Light wisely refuses to provide its delicate creations.

Build up your health and your strength and fighting attributes as much as you possibly can, (pick a race that fits with your fighting style) I highly recommend doing a lot of side quests, daedric shrines or dlc’s to get leveled weapons and armor and levels. I usually run to the arena, fighters guild, the shivering isles and thieves guild first then I pick off all the side quests I know will either provide a lot of combat or loot. The gates are hard when you haven’t built your character up and yea they’ll get “harder” as you level but once you get into the groove with whatever type of combat you choose and get all the leveled items you can you’re pretty much solid from there. There’s no shame and it doesn’t hurt to turn down the difficulty too! Also, if you can, run like hell through the gates and get them shut don’t even bother trying to pick off the dremroa and all the other fun guys in there, I started doing that once I made my 6th character because…it gets old theres like 100 gates to close and I got other shit to do 😂 good luck to you!
Oh and ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU NEED in and try not to loot too much from the gates everything is super heavy and not worth the weight to value ratio last thing you want is to be stuck standing still in one of those gates

A tip I can give as someone who doesn't have much experience with Oblivion but did play enough to learn to avoid the duplication glitch. It will ruin the game for you. You'll have the best of everything right out the gate and all the money in the world. It will really ruin the experience. What would normally be a grind to get enough money to buy these things turns regular missions into pointless quests just to move the story forward with little to no reward for doing so. It also makes combat obsolete since you'll have unlimited potions. Everything will just become boring really fast and if you're like me you will likely put the game down and walk away from it. After a while I came back to it and played it as intended and it was a great experience. Having to travel and find the best ways to make money to buy the things I need was rewarding and outside of missions themselves it really gave me goals to reach. It also taught me things about the game. Like how to handle enemies. You learn quickly that sometimes it's ok to run away from a battle even if you desperately need to bit of coins from it. If you loved Skyrim you will likely enjoy this game. It's not as unforgivable as Morrowwind but doesn't hold your hand like Skyrim.

I do think efficient leveling is sort of required in Oblivion. The scaling of enemies assumes you are min-maxing. I remember my character slowly falling behind bit by bit, and enemies taking forever. I played again with a more efficient character, and it was much easier. To be honest, I feel like the leveling and scaling systems completely ruin this game. The scaling is too harsh and ridiculous in some cases, and you are very much punished for either under-leveling or over-leveling skills. It just feels like a dark cloud is over your head, as trying to optimize your skills and track everything really ruins one's minute-to-minute gameplay experience. It forces you to play the game in a very unnatural way, completely killing immersion.
So basically you either enjoy the game and feel immerse, but have to constantly lower difficulty in the slider, or go through the tedium and pain of tracking your skills and stats every level but completely suck all the fun out of the game. This is why Skyrim is better, You can just play the damn game, feel immersed, and play intuitively and naturally, and you will enjoy yourself all the way until the very end. Not so with Oblivion.

it didnt ruin anything, its literally all in your head.. so the game is easier for you beucase of efficient leveling? well that means less hits to kill things, which means those skills will level slow, then you may fall behind,
if you raise the difficulty to make up for the fact that you character is stronger, that just proves that it doesnt even matter. after all the game play is the same regardless of the slider as long as its at a spot there its hard but not too hard

Idk man, you can get pretty in-depth with it but for me I just make my Major skills ones I won’t and don’t use. Make my minor skills my actual build. I go out and play the game normally level up my minor skills then when I’m ready to level up I use those majors. I sleep and level up to level 2 then I rinse and repeat I don’t keep track of anything.. I just level up slowly. I always end up with +4 and +5 on my attributes. And by the time I’m level 9-12 I’m OP. It doesn’t have to be complicated..

I would also recommend getting the skeleton key as early as possible (i think it s level 5), you can use it to open any lock in the game. Also azura s star is useful as enchanted weapons are very powerful at least early on. Also make sure to get a weapon enchanted with soul trap and keep it if you aren t skilled in mysticism(you can also train your mysticism up to 25 if it s more convenient for you)

I haven’t found any weapons with soul trap unfortunately so I find myself suing using enchanted weapons sparingly

@@solidskullz5736 you can train your mysticism to level 25 by just spamming a very cheap myst spell so you can cast soul trap if you can t find a soul trap enchantment. There s also umbra but it s quite a late level weapon

You can also get a free horse at weynon priory (by talking to Prior Maborel), that's always what I did until I'd get Shadowmere

The Prior Maborel is a good starter indeed. Unfortunely it gets outclassed quickly, specially if a player cheeses leveling to get as much athletics as possible (IMHO is actually one thing a player gotta do, if wants to do the best leveling ever)
