For those that can’t take alcohol for whatever reason, replace the beer in the batter with club soda or sparkling mineral water. It tastes the same if not better.

We just made this for our daughters birthday dinner. Holy cow I am so stuffed, and it was so delicious, changed cheddar to American cheese and changed dill pickle to sweet bread and butter pickle for the tartar saaase. It was so so good, made buns from scratch worked out perfect. Awesome somwich!! boom done.
Coming from someone who used to work at Maccas: They only use half a slice of cheese for the Filet O Fish. As for the bun not being crispy, that’s because it’s steamed. It’s the only burger I can remember steaming the buns for.

@@uddinmashrafe I did a science experiment in highschool many years ago where we put various McDonald's food into alcohol and watched it rot and mold. The Fillet O Fish looked the same as it did when it was put in over a month later. The rest of the food looked like a mold colony and you couldn't even tell which was which if it weren't for the labels on the jars. Mind you their food has only gotten worse and cheaper in the intervening years.

It's no longer available at Finland and I've been missing it a lot for years. I usually ordered it with a slice of tomato. It was soft, crispy and had that nice sour taste as well. I know I must be weird. 🤪

I used to love this burger so much as a kid that it would be the only thing I ordered at mickie D's, this will probably be the most painful episode of this series for me.

The filet o fish bun is supposed to be soggy. They steam the buns. They are they same buns used for cheeseburgers, just steamed.

I like the Filet O fish and low key would go for a fresh McDonald's Filet O Fish over Josh's. Can respect what he's done but his bun looks so greasy the McDonald's buns just taste soft and warm after they've been steamed but not greasy plus his piece of fish was way too big wouldnt be satisfying to bite into like a classic McD's Filet O fish.

There is one burger from McDonalds I actually really like. (But I think its a special mainly for Germany)
However most of the Burger they make, have little to no sauce. So I have a really good chance to die of dehydration when eating a burger.
You'll probably never read this, but just wanted to blurt it out anyway. I think what you touched upon at about 8.35 is one of the most redeeming factors of the small McD's burgers. Their structural integrity is second to none. They can be eaten in any situation without falling apart and without leaving a jizzy mayo mess on the diner's face. This is especially helpful considering they have a drive thru, meaning a lot of people eating the McD's burgers will be trying to drive while stuffing their face.
As a person who identifies as a man with a hairy face, one thing that drives me nuts is when people make burgers that are far too tall to ever fit into a person's mouth with any level of grace. "Hey I put 9000 beef patties and 24 truffles in this mega burger" TO HELL WITH THAT. I have no doubt that the flavour, texture, ecological impact, mineral benefits etc of your sandwich/ burger are 1000x better than the original filet 'o' whatever (is it even really fish?) but just wanted to mention that the functionality of driving/ walking food should be considered in this showdown. In my opinion anyway.
I am no McDonald's apologist, let's be clear about that, but I do love being able to eat a small burger without needing a whole roll of kitchen towel to wring the mayo out of my beard.

You're spot on. McDonald's get 1/10 for taste, but 11/10 for ergonomics. You can eat a Junior Cheeseburger without touching the food with your hands, which in our current situation means something.

I'm honeslty so happy to see someone who loves sauce as much as me put a lot of sauce on, and then after taking a bite... adding more sauce for the next bite. I feel seen
In the Netherlands we have kibbeling which is an unhealthy piece of fried fish and it is delicious
So I made these and they were pretty excellent. I did just the fish, not the buns, but I have made the buns in the past so I can attest to their greatness. I simply wanted to make some fried fish. I did deviat slightly. I used Season Salt instead of Old Bay as I didn't have Old Bay and my wife isn't a fan.
For procedure my only change was to double batter my fish. I didn't do this for any flavor reasons, I just had some fish that was already showing some signs of wanting to fall apart when I was battering it so I hit it with a second coat to make sure it stayed togehtwhile frying. It did result in a crispier crust since double battered of course, but honestly it didn't impact fry time at all (4 minutes per batch) and it gave a bit more of the flavor since more batter/crispier.
10/10 would recommend. Would say for sure the Old Bay would have been excellent as well if I had some. Do think the double batter was a good idea as well. He doesn't mention it, but based on his outcome I'd be surprised if Josh didn't double batter his.

Please do a "But Better" episode of Panera Bread's menu. I don't want to tell you what to get but they have soups, salads, sandwiches, bowls(with or without chicken), flatbreads, bread loafs that you can buy, pastries, cookies, and other desserts. Very good food!

My Tartar sauce. Is made with 1 tbsp capers diced, 2/3tbap conichions diced,. 1/3 grated pickles onions. Either home made mayonnaise or I like vegan mayonnaise. Salt pepper to taste. Or you can use yogurt. Which I like aswell.

since cod as a commodity is way less economical due to scarcity, you can use pollock, which is a close relative and works just as well. also you can just use any white fish as said in the video.

I will say as a Bermudian we love our fish sandwiches. Some nice fried wahoo or cod on cinnamon raisin bread with homemade tartar sauce is the best.

Many years ago, when I used to go to Mickey D's, they used a full slice of cheese, and the sauce actually tasted pretty good. It wasn't high cuisine, but it was my favorite thing on the menu. So, I stopped by there on a road trip a couple months ago and got one for nostalgia. I really wish I hadn't, because the quality was... well, this. You can't go home again, as they say.
I love filet o fish... I got a double one a while back and it was glorious! In Australia they use Hoki (Blue Grenadier) at McDonalds, it's a deep sea rat tail type fish that grows pretty big. They're a nice white fish.

As a new viewer, I love him having a rant at all the terrible take out places, and he’s not wrong.
The reason this was made was because a McDonald’s was near a really catholic (not sure I think it was catholic) town and for a day they would fast but for some reason fish was allowed that McDonald’s sales would drastically drop during that day and they needed a idea so they made the filet o fish and their sales were back to normal again
Edit:I said this just in case people are confused why McDonald’s still has this despite removing flops before like the mc rib

Your sandwich looks amazing. I wish I had one right now. I am embarrassed to admit that I do enjoy a filet o fish (in all its obvious sadness) every once in a while. I've had about 3 in the last 10 years and though it tastes good to me, my belly usually pays a price.
