The official video features fight scenes from the 1923 silent movie The Uncovered Wagon, a parody on the movie The Covered Wagon, also from 1923.
Thank you! The only person to bother answering her question! Cheers!
There's also an alternative official futuristic animated version of this video as well with Eddy as a cyborg rider.
I always wanted to know the story of those scenes. Thanks for giving us some insight.
Was introduced to Iron Maiden via MTV & this song has Always been my favorite in their Gargantuan song library! If you're looking for other Maiden songs involving history, suggest you checkout....Aces High, The Trooper, Alexander the Great, Empire of the Clouds & The Red & The Black...among others!...Up the Irons!
As I've said before, Iron Maiden has taught me more about history and poetry than I've ever learned in school. I got into them around 1982 and have been a huge fan since.
You weren’t a very good student then.
@@frankiek2269 Well better than you anyway
@@frankiek2269 Gee, I make a little joke and someone has to be an A-Hole. GFY
peace of mind was my iron maiden album first to get into true metal
@@wiseomg Lol. You definitely weren’t a better student than me. I was a straight A student in honors classes. Iron Maiden didn’t teach me anything. But I will say this. Bruce Dickerson is one smart MF’er. I saw him on Celebrity Jeopardy twice, and he wiped the floor with the other two contestants, twice. And this was before they started really dumbing it down because they realized they were embarrassing the celebrities.
"Alexander the Great "off of their Somewhere in time album. Great history lesson incredible song.
I really hope you dig into some of Maiden's deeper cuts, that's where their real gems are. Everyone only listens to Run to the Hills, The Trooper, Hallowed be Thy Name and Fear of the Dark, but Maiden's catalog is MASSIVE and their best songs are the ones most people never react to.
name songs
@@Reblwitoutacause Dance of death
@@Reblwitoutacause Children of the damned.
I have their whole catalog of studio releases, on cd or vinyl, my cassettes are long gone, from Iron Maiden to Senjutstu, there is a TON of great music to listen to.
one reason and one reason only.....they react to the songs people recommend them to react too, so complaining just suggest something different :) maybe more will follow you in suggesting the song you suggest if they are agreeing with you just saying
It is funny watching young folks react to all the great bands from my youth! I have been listening to Iron Maiden since I was about 11 years old in 1981, and I have been listening ever since, 42 years later!
Other great songs:The Evil That Men Do,Wasted Years,Afraid To Shoot Strangers,Fear Of The Dark,Flight Of Icarus,The Clansman(live in Rock In Río),The Clairvoyant,The Number Of The Beast,Aces High,2 Minutes To Midnight.🤘
Aces High, great song, great lyrics, one of my favourites by iron maiden.
.
Yes, because what UA-cam needs is another Trooper reaction video. Jeez, you'd think they'd only made four songs.
Fear of the dark/Wasted Years/Aces high/2 minutes to midnight/The number of the beast🤘🏼
Iron Maiden🤘
🤘
According to Iron Maiden, the movie footage was from a Buster Keaton comedy movie from the silent movie era of the 1920's... the "pale-faces v. the Indians" battle was exaggerated for comic effect... it seemed to go well w/ the theme of 'Run to the Hills', which is about cowboys fighting the native American 'Indians'...
Buster Keaton was huge star and movie maker back in the early 20th century. His comedies were hugely popular w/ the likes of stars of the day like Charlie Chaplin... Laurel & Hardy... and others from the 'silent movie' era where action sequences were essential without dialogue (cos sound was not available yet in movie theaters; musicians were hired to give movies a soundtrack w/ sheet music). Those movies are hilarious - Charlie Chaplin was one of my faves... he played the character of 'the Tramp' who walked in baggy pants, oversized shoes, a cane and a bowler hat, who would always make trouble.
When movies came w/ sound in the 1930's, a lot of stars went out, because they didn't sound like their on-screen characters... Laurel & Hardy made the transition cos they sounded like they looked... but Buster Keaton did not.
Charlie Chaplin's first movie w/ sound ('Modern times') was mostly silent, but had him sing a song in total gibberish 😂 He lampooned Adolf Hitler during World War II in the movie 'The great dictator' (w/ sound) portraying both a Jewish barber and a maniac dictator 'Adenoid Heinkel' (he resembled Adolf Hitler somewhat w/ his mustache).
In high school for the world history finals, the last part was to write an essay on any historical figure. It was 20% of your grade, you could get a total of 5 points for the essay. I memorized Alexander the Great and did the essay. The teacher was so impressed and gave me 10 points for the essay. Aced the test with 100.
Iron Maiden...Improving High School grades for 40 years.
Yes! You get it, too many people dont seem to understand the concept of emotion in music, these days the majority of people seem to want background noise. There are actually plenty of songs out there that make the point. Lady gaga, just dance, the level of emotion in that song perfectly reflects the title no point feeling anything, just dance like a robot!
I haven't seen can I play with madness reviewed yet, other good and popular songs they did include wasted years, number of the beast, phantom of the opera, bring your daughter to the slaughter, seventh son of a seventh son, powerslave, 2 minites to midnight, and aces high, if I don't stop now I never will!
I'm trying to think of the songs that haven't been done as much, thank you for not following the trends! You're the first person I've seen do run to the hills, anx hopefully you've got a few more surprises in store!
Anything off of their Somewhere in Time album is awesome. In my opinion, one of their best albums.
I agree
Lilly loving your reaction 😃 sending you a cup off 🍵🏴
I was in Tulsa to attend Iron Maiden. There was a person of Indian descent next to me when they played this. Didn't know how he would react to it initially.
The song is pro Indian and anti American. Why on earth would he be offended? Russians love the Trooper, and that is an Anti Russian song. I'd really like to know why an Indian would hate Run to the Hills.
I was at that show also, absolutely awesome concert
One of my all time favorite bands!
best theatrical song from them is rime of the ancient mariner , writing from an old peom . awesome song you must react to lilly .up the irons maiden rocks period
And also Dance Of Death live. ☺️
Another killer song from the beautiful *Lilly* ....... Bruce and Dio, UNPARALLELED voices.!
Rob Halford? Oh right, he's even better
Prime:
Halford
Tate
Dickinson
Dio
Live, live, live always live
Glad! whatever the reason might be, you came back to listen to one of the sources, THANKS! UP THE IRONS!!!!!
You will love Alexander The Great, Aces High and Paschendale!
I go back and forth whether passchendale or Hallowed By Thy Name is my favorite from them. Not a bad predicament.
My favorite band ever seen them twice don't know where the footage came from lol ,but I Love Maiden !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm old, very old. For this big , big, great bands!!! My favorite forever
For your future enjoyment, every track from peace of mind. Especially flight of icarus, and to tame a land
Note they di make songs like this.
Lovebites was formed to bring back the Iron Maiden style of song writing.
Check out Lovebites Swansong live with Chopin Intro.
This was my intro to Iron Maiden. I was 15. They sparked a curiosity that no teacher ever has
Another great song by Maiden. The video features fight scenes from the 1923 silent movie The Uncovered Wagon, a parody on the movie The Covered Wagon, also from 1923. There ya go doll. \m/\m/
You really need to check out the studio version of Iron Maiden - Powerslave just for the guitar solos alone. One of my favourites. A story about an Egyptian Pharaoh coming to terms with his imminent death and the realisation that he is no God but a mortal man.
Powerslave was an Amazing tour, caught in OK city and LA , still smiling :)
The whole song is amazing
Jaffa KREE!😅
Iron Maiden has been my favorite band since the mid 80. It's an interesting rabbit hole to go down because they're still making new music today and some of it's pretty damn good but very different from their earlier stuff. And since you're an Eminem fan, hopefully you checked out his Rock and roll Hall of Fame induction and speech. And speaking of that induction, there may be a Judas Priest song or two you may want to discover after going down the Metallica Megadeth and Iron Maiden rabbit holes.
Hope you’re having a amazing day!
Tanisi nitisani ekosani nisim, the black and white footage is from some old comedy. I remember when I bought this album as a teenager and first heard this song I was surprised to hear my tribe mentioned, the Cree. It seems that it was the best choice for rhyming.
Iron Maiden are genius at story telling.
Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands for sure. They're awesome at taking history and putting music to it,as you've already pointed out. They do the same with poetry as well . As far as what song you recommend us to ask you to dig into it really depends on if you want to go back to there earlier songs like Running Free with their original singer Paul or one after that album like Aces high. You really can't go wrong tbh. Keep up the great work
I still rock out tro that band at 55
For History tie in.....Rime Of The Ancient Mariner.....but its got to be a live version
Note in the song he refers to the Cree.
They were a tribe in what is now Canada. They were woodlands Indians not plains Indians.
They were also allies of and had friendly relations with French settlers.
When the French lost their war with England Canada became part of England.
Much of the wars against the Indians had no actual good guy bad guy sides. Just people with different interests.
Plains Indians were nomadic and didn't own land but traveled follow the bison heard.
The Dutch had a rule that any land purchased had to have records.
The Brits pretty much took what they wanted.
Read the song list off of their album "Live After Death." It's from early in their careers. All of their songs on it tell stories that have informational messages yet are less complicated than stuff from their later career. If you really want to learn something, do a live version of Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It is a 13 minute song that tells the story of Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. The poem is covered in High School curriculum. (At least it used to be.) Read the lyrics beforehand, because they are hard to follow on a first listen. Up the Irons!
I love the white strip in your hair. One of my favorite guitarists Alex skolnick from testament has the same thing
I saw them the first time here in Belgium in the 70ties and seen them now for about 13 ore 14 times !
They are still amazing good !
Hope i see them again on graspop !
Aces High is my fav from Iron Maiden, but there are so many good ones.
A good song but use my list if you want the best recommendations
Songs to do next - Fear of the Dark - Live Rock in Rio, Phantom of the Opera Live, Rime of the Ancient Mariner Live Rock in Rio 2001
This is the song that put Iron Maiden on the map no, they never got radio play only local TV stations at this time, PBS.
They use footage from the silent movie The Covered Wagon released in 1923..
"The Trooper" is based on the Crimean War of 1854 and the battlefield of Balacklava
Lots of it is old Hollywood footage where they actually didnt gaf about the animals.
That's why now you see "no animals were harmed filming this movie"
Wasn't always the case.
I knew this song before Guitar Hero/Rock Band but they had some bangers on there lol let's go!
I had that exact red Ibanez Destroyer 2 that he's playing. Best guitar I ever had!
Loved this Lilly! 😂😁
having only heard the chorus of this song, I never would've guessed it was Iron Maiden..although I've never knowingly listened to Iron Maiden..until now I guess..
Es una lindura esa pieza
My favorite by them is Rime of the Ancient Mariner, but love Flight of Icarus, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, and Caught Somewhere in Time.
Iron Maiden - Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Live After Death 1985)
Faded off after fear of the dark.. every album to that point, is a whole story.. Seventh Son is a great album.. try it.. :-))
Fun fact about Iron Maiden: they lease their own Boeing 747 named Ed Force One, The plane can carry the band, crew and the 22,000 pounds of equipotent for each show. The pilot of the plane is their lead singer Bruce Dickinson. I think you should check out a live version of Fear of the Dark so you can see the crowd participation. The song was written by the bassist Steve Harris because he actually has a fear of the dark. Up the Irons!
Another song where the bass and drums sound like galloping horses, like you heard in The Trooper.
Powerslave and The Duelist are two more i would suggest
Clive Burr the drummer here, on the next album, and since it's been Nicko on drums
of course you must do live version of please and thank you
you know, I think we've finally found the song that Dennis from Sunny was born to harmonize to...
for other great songs (and history lessons):
Aces High, Where Eagles Dare, Alexander the Great.
I dont know for sure where that footage is from but my guess would be some silent movie stuff from early 1900s (like 1920) Charlie Chaplin kind of material.
This is the perfect song for Thanksgiving time
Lilly Jane, I’ve been a Maiden fan since about 1989 (my sophomore year of high school), and it’s been great watching your reactions. Also, the Megadeth and Metallica reactions as well (especially Holy Wars!). To expand your metal-verse even further, the next legendary band you need to check out is Judas Priest, and your first reaction needs to be Painkiller. You won’t regret it! 🤘🏻
I'd recommend
Death - The Philosopher
Phantom of the Opera should be your next Maiden reaction. Fair warning. Depending on which video, you might get a singer you're probably not familiar with.
I wish that I could go back in time, and have history class, but with Bruce as the teacher. I would have paid far more attention to him.
About the video , let's say Iron Maiden has the true METAL spirit : making fun of themselves ! They are British so they have a good sense of Humour. . You will find that for instance in the scenes of old movie in other videos too : for instance can I play with madness or the number of the beast....
Maiden literally taught history at a time when Mtelalheads were "dumb thugs". They went "Here's Alexander The Great in song. Also Egyptian Pharaohs. Fancy 'Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner'? In full?" And I, as a kid, went "Yes! Gimme more!" "Nuclear bombing of Japan? Vietnam War Vets PTSD? FENCING?" "Gimme!"
Alexander the Great, Somewhere in Time, Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner👍👍🙂
This song wasn't about a specific historical event. It was written characterizing the plight of western expansion and also the plight of the Native Americans against what western expansion was doing to the lands. The movie clips were from a parody film, something that you would see in a Charlie Chaplain type piece.
This is one of my favorite albums I hope you listen too the whole album thier really not a bad song on that
Iron made running silent running deep we are your final prayer is fun.
He is a suggestion you might not get often, Blood Brothers from the Brave new world album. It might not be the history lesson that maiden is famed and loved for, but it is a lesson in humanity.
THE LETTER FRON THE SONG SPEECH ON THE GENOCIDE AMERICAN INDIANS
gracias por reaccionar a mi banda favorita ,de toda la vida
You should check out when the wild wind blows, good song
You really should do iron maiden the writing on the wall with the video from the newest album
Welcome to IRON MAIDEN LAIR
Iron maiden makes history fun! I suggest checking out empire of the clouds.
Don’t really care for Iron Maiden but always liked this song and a few others.
This is band was also a big influence for metallica
Please react to some live 1985 metallica
or Iron Maiden powerslave
But metallica in 83~89 live is insane
I love early metallica first album is so thrash 🤘🤘
If you need another history lesson, check out "Aces High". It's about Spitfire pilots during the Battle of Britain in WW2. Very cool song.
You should check out Annihilator-W. T. Y. D.
It's an amazing thrash metal song(this band in general is amazing)
Especially first two albums
Wow. Thanks for the reminder...off to listen to them!
The Talisman, great story song
Iron Maiden Rime of the Ancient Mariner Lily live
* important history lesson
They always had catchy riffs such as I think a song of them probably nobody won't be able to do the phantom of the Opera they also have others but I'll list a little bit what I know and what I have on my own playlist number of the beast phantom of the Opera wrathchild there are others but I won't go off script
This was a story of Europeans coming over and taking the land from Native Americans at any cost. Great channel. You❤️
the images are from early silent films
Aces high or golden years are awesome! Do them next!
You mean Wasted Years. Golden Years was David Bowie.
@@shawnbartz9818 you’re right! I don’t know why I mixed them up, although Bowie is cool too
You should react to "WASTED YEARS".
My favorite will always be infinite dreams off 7th son of a 7th son
The song documents the colonization of the Americas, first by Europeans and then by Americans, from the perspective of a Cree Indian and American cavalryman. The opening verse is from the perspective of the Cree, describing his troubles as the European Americans "came across the sea", bringing the Cree "pain and misery".[6][7] The song is written from both perspectives,[8] The second verse is from the perspective of a U.S. cavalry soldier, describing his involvement in the American Indian Wars, "chasing the redskins back to their holes". The third verse is not from the perspective of any single individual, and harshly condemns the effects of American expansionism on Native Americans, resulting in the "[Americans] raping the women and wasting the men", and "enslaving the young and destroying the old"
Man I remember the first time I heard this........83? I was 13 , yeah I'm old as shit. It was on MTV and I remember thinkin, damn that was great.
Haven't changed my mind since........ and I've seen em live. Bruce is still decent although he's lost a step..... and Harris is still the most insane bass player I've ever watched in metal / rock.
RIP CLIVE BURR
2 come to mind the number of the beast and rime of the ancient mariner(live)
This was a song about the plight of the Native Americans; their persecution of the White Man
this music speaks of History you guys are chum
Check out Wasted Years!
You can say Bruce Dickenson is the Grand father of Havy Metall
Lilly Jane, you need to check out Iron Maiden's "Children of the Damned." The lead singer Bruce Dickenson has amazing range on that song."
You should listen iron maiden aces high.. and you should tell your time to listen "life after death" concert 1985 long beach CA.
The "weird guns" you speak of is called the puckle gun, might have misspelled it I've been drinking
Those are from old film and comedy-ish westerns.
You should try some Tool (the pot, lateralus, 46&2) just choose one, this is really crazy
