I love that engine, drove a Terex 30 ton off road dump truck with it, was stopped by the owner for speeding on the haul road, was the hydrostatic with 6 gears, I was making my way to fourth when he saw me, "I know it's fast and has a smooth ride, but slow it down," had to wait till he left to get it back up there.

I used to hate detroits back when I had to drive them all day long and they were plentiful. Now.............. I want one to cruise with. In a pickup or some type of rodded out smaller truck. The sound just brings me back. I love it.
You aren't kidding. I have a 1969 Diamond Reo C10142 here in the States. The only other Diamond Reo parts I have ever seen were a static display truck in a museum, and the cab and radiator that were used for a rat rod. I cant get parts to keep the Gold Comet engine going, so its getting a Cummins.
If I had this ride, I'd wake the teenagers up across the street who kept me awake to all hours of the night partying, and give them a little 0600 Detroit alarm clock. Gotta love it.
I love the mean and evil soundin' 6v53 in this video plus the jakes..these engines in trucks I think were set at 2300 rpm 1,600lbs of 318 cu. inch 2 cycle diesel even the over rev sound cool!!
Manorfarmdenton There was a 8V53 factory installed in a Diamond T back in the early seventies 247 hp at 2600 RPM. Also a couple a couple of retrofitted ones in a bonneted bogie drive Deutz used to haul a tri-axle fuel tanker. Big truck in it's time. There was one put in a cabover Leyland single drive with bogie trailer hauling fruit in cages went like a rocket and took 2 hours of the trip time within 500 ks compared to the original Leyland engine and most of it was done up Mt Victoria.
A vintage RHD Diamond T? Don't see those often. I imagine they're even scarce down in Australia, since there aren't even that many of the LHD ones left here in the States.
aside from this example this engine was in my opinion very popular in the old International loadstars 1850 and the fleestars as well as old trash trucks and the old Chevrolet C-70 and yes older military vehicles

Good old jimmy turning diesel fuel into noise. Must be hard for anyone who has never driven one to understand how cool these motors are. They sound like they are running a gazillion rpm. What did this one top out at in this video, maybe 2200?

Late mate was supervisor for this overnight company. Truck from Melbourne was late - very late! Big knob boss was prowling the docks, waiting to tear the interstate driver a new one. BKB goes into the supervisors' dock office and is growling at the supervisor... Supervisor throws his hand up. Depot was at Beare Avenue, Netley. "Hang on, he is pulling up at South Road!" The supervisor exclaims! BKB: "How the F*** do you know that?!?" Supervisor: "I can hear his 6V53!" This is about 2.5 km from the depot, in peak hour traffic. About 15 seconds later, supervisor hears him going up through the gears. "He'll be here in 5 minutes!" BKB: "Yeah, sure!" Not believing what he is hearing! 5 minutes later, the Melbourne truck rolls into the yard. BKB goes to tear the driver a new one, and the driver presents a timestamp from a Bundy clock, with the simple message to the BKB: "Tell Melbourne that they need to get me out by 8 P.M., not F***ing after midnight like they have this morning!!!" BKB walked away with tail between legs!
