Dang....one of the coolest dashboards I've seen in a truck. Kenworth did not want you getting bored inside while you were driving. very nice.

Great looking and very sweet 318 Detroit. Grew up in a 1970 cab over Peterbilt with the 318 and 13 speed. This brings back alot of early memories of riding in and driving the ole Peterbilt. Thanks for posting this video !!

Why every ones always bashing detroits I grew up riding in these trucks sometimes sleeping with my knees on the floor and head on the seat sometimes shifting while my Dad dragged trucks out of toll booths you can buy a detroit fire truck or 12v71 and make all the horsepower ya want but these trucks were back in the day where low horses and shifting and having a sore back was the life of a trucker I think the 318 not cubic inches already ... and yes they didnt even have that many ponies 275? was the best sounding motor no aspiration no turbo...just revs and a hollowed out rikers and it was music..great truck and video thanx Detroit Doctor ! you apreciate the finer things in life bro...

Wow... hearing that Detroit sound is causing me to haveg flashbacks: It's winter of February or so of '73. Sittin' in a bronze colored 352 w/sleeper... night time... left Alma, AR early yesterday morn... now it's early AM... I'm workin' the mountains out in Pennsy somewhere (divided highway) headed for who knows where (can't remember)... I'm working that Fuller 13spd and that 318 is howling up a racket through the twin stacks. The class lights are reflecting on the underside of the chrome visor... I'm not listening to music on the radio or a tape in the deck... just sittin' there doin' my thing and listenin' to that Jimmy working hard beneath me and from the looks of this memoir, it's obvious my mind was recording it all as a memory. Detroit Diesel: Drove many of 'em. Tough old engines... make 'ya deaf, though!

My first truck was a '70 International cabover with a 318 Detroit and a 13 speed Roadranger. You had to drive those 318's (a V8 engine in case you kids didn't know that) "like you were mad at 'em." That was the old saying in those days. Not much sound insulation in the cabs back then. You had to yell to have a conversation.

No sure where you get your information buddy. The original engine in my truck is a 8V71 318 HP N65 injectors and my truck actually has a dual pyrometer, one probe for each bank, and the pyrometer installed in my truck has the old KW logo stamped smack dead center of the gauge. You can put a pyrometer on any engine if you want to.

Sahllem, the transmission in some of these trucks really only has 4 to 6 actual gear positions including reverse. The rest is done with the high and low selector knob you see on the side of the shifter stick and the red selector you see on the top left side of the shifter knob.As DDD said, it is a matter of getting a feel for the truck you drive and matching road speed with the engine RPM.This looks like a 13 speed. Most truck transmissions today are 9 and 10 speed with 6 actual shifter positions.
