Hi everyone. This took longer than expected to put out but it’s eventually here. Please forgive some of the Audio breaking down. This truck is extremely noisy and rough and the recording equipment didn’t like it too much.
Awesome morning brother from another country down under pray yall are doing well may this year continue to bring blessings overflowing brother and you just let that Ole gal roar 😂😂😂😂 rolling coal shifting gears and making money and memories that Ole gal is awesome spot on brother keep the rubber on the road and between the white lines brother
Rough ride Steve?? Naw she was a smooth as silk mate!!😎😎😆😆 Sitting back here in me old office chair and stereo on, she sounds sweet as. Thanks for ride along!!!
That truck is music to my ears. I also almost strated to cry seeing your mates farm been sold for devopment. Its so wrong seeing us loose all our good farming land for dog box houses. Just ruining what used to be a great country.
Thank you mate. Yes it’s certainly a shame but money talks and if big amounts are on offer I guess everything is for sale. Terrible waste of a beautiful property
Fantastic video mate - perhaps not a lot of appreciation for the singing Detroit in some of those spots you went through but I know everyone here sure does!
Great job Steve, we've all forgotten the deepreduction and the ones who say they haven't never drove 1, the 4000 is such a neat tidy truck, hard to imagine 40 odd years old, beautifully designed, built, a credit to you the way you've maintained it. Staggering to think of people tryin to tell you its a 653!!! Keep safe cobber!
Hi mate thank you. I thought it was in deep reduction from previous experience but it wasn’t, the range valve on the side of the box was stuck. A slight tap and it started working again. It’s certainly an easy thing to forget though. It is a good truck mate. I built it with bigger all money. Making parts fit from other vehicles and done the painting myself. It’s been a good truck since. Thanks again mate
Shes a beaut Clark..sounds great. I enjoy the driving videos change is nice once and awhile.. one of my favorite channels also hello from snowy Pennsylvania US of A
Ripper vid Steve nothing beats the sound of a 2 stroke Diesel .And I might say anyone who thinks that's a 653 is a wanker who has never driven a GM .during my career I have driven 471s straight 671s V671Ts 871s and V653s I have also driven Commer Knockers and 4 and 5 cyl UD 2 strokes so I think I know what each one sounds like ,loved the vid mate keep them coming.
Hi Rod, thanks for watching mate. You’ve certainly had a fair go at these old girls. Some great old trucks there mate. I love those 5 cylinder UDs, I have one here and it’s the best sounding thing I own. Well done mate. Plenty more to come
Howdy Steve! re the sticky range changer linkage - when I was a kid working in the highway truck stop's fuel desk, in winter we had some sticky linkages to deal with. Several drivers would come in for fuel, oil check, and windshield washes and ask us to get under and douse their range changer linkages with ATF to keep the ice, water, and road salt off them. The story was that these linkages were made with tighter fits than many of the other linkages on the trucks and were prone to get stuck in the cold weather. I recall one White, an Autocar, and a bunch of Ford 9000's where the drivers asked us to do it, but memory of details stuff 45 odd years ago is gettin vague. Maybe your linkage got a bit of rust on it from the time sitting. The White was singin pretty nice at 23:00 ish. The fire truck must have been going to a Tesla fire. 8^) Shame about your buddy's farm being turned into houses, looks like a gorgeous spot. Too much of that going on here too. Thanks for a great video Steve! Cheers.
Bring the noise!.👂🏻👍🏻😁 Alreet Marra, Cheers for taking us along.🍻 Remarkable the amount of difficunts arguing the engine model even though you fitted it.🤦🏻♂️ I reckon some turbos would help tame the noise and give the yokels a different tune to turn their noses up at.🤣
Magnificent mate. My pleasure. Yeah it was in a short clip that went viral and everyone was telling me what it was🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️, except what it is🤣🤣. A turbo would make it a lot better both to lessen the noise and to add some power
Steve, once again when you left I felt I was sitting right along in there and the first little stretch even looked vaguely familiar. Next time I’m there you have to go pick something up even if you don’t need it just so I can go along for the ride.
What a great way to start my morning, old man, Steve from Chicago here wishing you all the best mate, gonna be pretty hard to find a beer in this video with all that driving! Hope this finds you well and this new year Cheers and 🍻 Beers 🍺 Young Steve
Hi Steve, liked the bit when you said keeping the noise down though the houses, years ago there was a company that had v8 Scania trucks with stacks and had to come up a hill into the town near by, boy did they sound good pulling uphill fully loaded at 44tons, sadly the company got other work or something and took stacks off 😢. Keep on trucking, markUK
Hello Steve hope you and the family are good and happy new year to you and family mate absolutely loved the video great to see the old girl out doing what she's meant for as for noise it was awesome don't worry about other people noise wasn't there long my old tractors they make some noise Don't worry about any more mate looking forward to next one Steve
Hello mate. Yes we are well and hope you are too. Yes it’s been a while since she’s been out. Thanks as as always for watching Keith. Your tractors sound like they would be good too
@stevesplacedownunder thanks Steve yes 6cylinder working hard lovely sound got hold of another 6cylinder Ford engine this one is an industrial 6d close coupled pump not long shaft pump coupling going into another fordson major any way Steve looking forward to your next video mate
G'day Steve, She's a champion this truck , looks great on the road , and sounds a million bucks , Had to laugh when you said " just keep her quiet through these houses " ha ha ha . Thanks for another cool vid , Look foward to the next . Respect....!
Thanks for taking us along for the ride ... very therapeutic. Love the old overdrive box. Takes me back to the 3070C with the 903. It's a lot more hilly over in NZ and 295 hp meant deep got a fair workout. From memory, I think downshift was intermediate 3rd to deep 5 and upshift was deep 4 to intermediate 5th which was like a half gear 🤔
Hi Jimmy thanks for watching. My pleasure mate. Yes they aren’t really a 15 speed, there’s probably 12-13 useable gears, the rest overlap. The beauty of the inters, like the 3070, they had both valves on the stick so it was a nice change from deep to intermediate. The Kenworths and the White I have, deep is on the dash and it’s not a comfortable smooth change so you tend not to use it. Later model ones had the later knob with the valves in them. Like you said with the hilly regions, you need deep for the lower gears. Ones I have you go out of 4th deep, flick the valve and go back into 4th intermediate from memory. So only really adding one gear. Something like that. I need to be doing it to explain it🤣🤣. 903s are beautiful to change
Would love to see you find a Commer Knocker and get it going ……. it was the very first semi-trailer I remember. As a very, very young boy out in the Mallee of South Australia , our neighbour had one for livestock haulage. I think it was maybe a 1958 model.
Yeah theu plant houses everywhere now the 100 acres of fruit trees in the middle of PittTown where I worked was under offer by developers when I was last there gone now,I dint know of my hearing would cope with a howling Jimmy these days all day every day. Whoa 15 speed hook box long time no play with last one I drove was in an old V8 Hino.
They do mate. They are going in absolutely everywhere in and around Sydney. It’s a shame but it’s how it goes. Yes I don’t know how blokes drove them everyday. I guess with a muffler they would be better
Great video Steve loved listening to that gm scream, got a theory on your channel not growing. To me it's great the way it is but other channels like "ole 2 stroke" he just adds more nonsense and carry on which a lot of people probably are drawn to. Just my 5c worth
Gday Steve. Always a bloody shame to see these old properties flattened for housing development. Rural becomes suburban. And as for the noise? If an old Detroit going past in the middle of the day is the worst thing that happens to you, then life ain’t too bad. Another great video, mate. Have a good one 😊
The old detroit sings pretty good still mate . I once saw trucks that were designed to operate in New York City . They all had 12v71 engines and were fitted with 4 mufflers and stacks . Nice attempt at noise reduction . It didnt work at all !
Have you thought of any sound deadening mats put in cabs? I was thinking of putting some in mine to take out acoustic vibrations. Better with turbo engine in it though
No I haven’t. I probably should. I need to quiet down the exhaust first. It’s out the side in front of the drive tyre and makes it worse. It’s a comfortable truck but the rattling and the engine noise makes it feel worse
@stevesplacedownunder my firewall has nothing on it. Think it helps a bunch to get something on it. Also be warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Aluminum cab transfer heat good
@stevesplacedownunder my 4200 is a bad rattler. Exhaust out top n couple feet over cab help. Get as far out the side as possible so it doesn't echo between trailer. 45 or 90 helps direct away. I need a turn on mine, can notice when loaded with logs.
@ yes I’m sure it helps. It did have a stack on it for a while but I done some cab repairs and ended up putting it underneath where it was when came out of factory. The cab rattles don’t help either. Yours would be better with a turbo
I put the line upgrade on my 13 spd. Suppose to help with crisp shifts and air delivery. Don't remember if I've got filter on the trans in my IH. Believe my Freightshaker does with 13. Might need a little Marvel Mystery oil run threw transmission. 5/32 line allows more volume. Both shift quick and smooth with update
The old 13 speeds needed the bigger lines yes indeed. This is a 15 speed, although similar, it was the range valve on the side of the trans. I give it a tap with a hammer and it started working again. I’d say the bit of moisture that was in the tank got into the lines. In the 15 years I’ve had it, this has never happened
Man, that 71 screams. Straight 4” exhaust the whole way? Also, did you cab swap that truck? That’s a Diamond Reo Dash in it. My 6-71 in my White doesn’t sound like that one. Also, it did still have the muffler on it while I ran it this past summer. Keep the old iron on the road!
@stevesplacedownunder that good your felling better now though it was 15 speed you sure can through the gear stick around Steve be good see some of the newer generation give it a try . Out of the big truck now for good .since yesterday .have good year with the projects and the family mate
@alanlanghorn9528 yes mate. Deep reduction is on the dash. Yes I’m not sure how some of the new gens would go with it. They are much different to the new trucks. Be sure to stay tuned for the Fergie mate. It was going to be this video but my mate wanted me to get these containers
@@stevesplacedownunder will do steve if your carbrutor is no good let me know ok left my email on a paper with that starter have a carbrutor in the cupboard and think some old leads and plugs to we shaped out the carbrutor to a bare co one we had a few of the little tea20 tractors still have one and 3 35 ones two 35 3 cylinder perkins and a grey and gold 23c engine but the clutch is getting weak in it not sure what do with it yet got sell the Tadam trailer soon to it near new. Anyway will keep eye for the Ferguson video ment to say try the 6 stud nissan navara wheel on the front if you had any around sure we used a couple on on but fitted the backwards at one stage .
It goes how it should mate. Certainly not a rocket ship but she’s alright. It just doesn’t take much of a hill to hold her back though. Still, it’s how they were
Steve, it's an absolute sin to build houses on that beautiful farm. I despise these developers when they do that. Less and less farms with home, barns, sheds etc. Keep importing all these people from other countries. Housing prices skyrocket. Any vacant land is built on. Once the farm is gone it's gone forever. Anyway I'm sure you will find a great use of those containers. Glad to see they are going to a good home. Jim
I don't think a muffler will stop engine noise unfortunately, it may dull the exhaust bark but that's about it . Maybe some insulation under bonnet, firewall and floor 🤷🏼♂️ it is a beautiful nose on a UA-cam video but 😂😂👍
What gearbox is in the white? I’ve always been keen to better understand gear patterns but never have the chance to swing off the stick myself. Would the lnt make a better/more comfortable run around truck?
@patrickryan9037 yeah okay mate. I’m more from the Silverdale are where the bloke you are talking about is over the narrellan/Campbelltown way I think? Not far from me though
It's sad to see these old farms that have been in a family for decades being built up into crappy developments. It is happening in my area of the U.S. The developers throw up cheaply built homes and sell them at exornate prices.
Hey up Steve nowt wrong with the audio mate sounded beautiful to me, such a shame with developers pricing normal folks out and trashing land not to mention farm house and it's history which could be left and built around, bastard's and money all wrong
Hi John thanks as always. It’s a terrible shame mate. I believe the old farmhouse will get turned into a pub or a cafe maybe. But in most of these developments with historical buildings they “accidentally” burn down and makes a blank canvas for whatever they want to do. It’s all money like you say
@stevesplacedownunder pub sounds ok as handy for refreshment! and most of the sheds could be involved in some sort of craft/history/cafe and food type of things, any idea how many acers of land
@@stevesplacedownunder with that much land there's no excuse to just trash the lot, could even be an innercity farm or in Oz words probably inner suberb, hoping they don't just screw the lot
Hi everyone. This took longer than expected to put out but it’s eventually here. Please forgive some of the Audio breaking down. This truck is extremely noisy and rough and the recording equipment didn’t like it too much.
All's good Bud
Yup good to me no problem 👍 a nice truck hauling containers love Detroit diesels

Who couldnt listen to that music all day!
She sets no land speed records, but I reckon the smile you'd have all day would make up for it..
Yes mate you could. She will sit on the speed limit easily enough but it doesn’t take much of a hill to slow her down. Certainly is a smile though
Someone who has to listen to it all day. Operated a wabco scraper. Couldn't get out of it quick enough.
Gotta love those powerlines when your lifting containers with a machine like that...
Sounds awesome, felt like I was in the passenger seat.
Hi mate thank you, as again this is amazing. Yes I felt like I was too when watching it back.
The flash areas have no taste or class if they can't appreciate a fine old girl, who is living her best life. 🤗🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗
Hi mate. Yes exactly right. It’s amazing how they have no appreciation for the old equipment
Do love the sound of a Detroit going through the gears.Great ride Steve.
Hi mate. Magnificent thank you 🙏
Love the way you use that 15 O/D poetry in motion.
Thank you mate. What a compliment 🙏🙏🙏
The old White with a screaming Detroit ……… now that’s a Truck ✅
Indeed mate. Can’t agree more

You won’t hear anything else for 6 months except that screaming Jimmy in your ear.
What better to do on a cold frosty Welsh afternoon that listen to the howls of a 671 Detroit lol :D
What an interesting journey. I would certainly need an extra good set of ear muffs to travel in the cab with you.
Thanks for watching mate. I usually wear them too. Bluetooth ones so I can listen to something aswell as dampen the noise
Great video that Detroit brought back memories as a kid riding with my father in a 1976 L-9000 with a 318 Detroit and a 13 speed good times
Fantastic Steve, what an awesome sound, you just can't beat a detroit on song.
Thank you mate. Sure is brilliant
Man that tractor sounds good.
Thanks for the video Steve, great to see these old trucks doing what they are meant to 👍
Hi mate it’s my pleasure. Yes it is good. They can’t work full time any more but still have a go when needed

One doesn't buy a detroit diesel wirh jakes to be quiet. We buy them to enjpy the noise. Let them sing I say.
It certainly makes noise mate. There’s no doubt about that
If you want quiet and smooth Volvo is where to shop not classic detroit powered rigs

That would be a tough truck mate. Good running gear
Great job Steve hope your feeling better now mate is that a 15 speed box in the old white ??
Hi mate. Yes I’m going okay., still can’t shake it but better. Yes a 15 speed overdrive. Great gearbox
@alanlanghorn9528 yes ok mate no problem. I’d say it’s rough but it may still be okay to run it. Will certainly tell soon enough
She might be loud mate but shit she pulls well
It goes how it should mate. Certainly not a rocket ship but she’s alright. It just doesn’t take much of a hill to hold her back though. Still, it’s how they were
The 671 is a runner and the sound i can deal with /with some earmuff's..
Slow, loud, not Paccar, but absolutely gorgeous.
noisy and rough lmao ======= music i played the trip home x2 haha
Magnificent mate I’m glad you liked it. I do too, I’m just older now than when I built it🤣🤣🤣
Save money on a muffler and put a turbo and injectors in it, it will go better and be quieter
Yes that’s right 🙏🙏
Steve, it's an absolute sin to build houses on that beautiful farm. Jim
It's a bastard when the developers get their mitts on properties like that.
Subdivisions - where's the attraction?
It is mate indeed but that’s how it all seems to be going. They need to build more houses and they need land to do it I guess
Would the lnt make a better/more comfortable run around truck?
hey Steve,,what sort of HP the 671 produced in its originality
Hi mate. 238hp
@@stevesplacedownundergot a 353 in a skidder it's 90hp so pretty much the same when scaled up I'd think
@ hi John. Yes mate that’s right. Basically off the series and number of cylinders
@@stevesplacedownunder yes mate three more cylinders and bit more capacity so I reckon multiplied out would be same hp
Beautiful truck! Needs jakes! Really make ears bleed
It has Jake’s, I just didn’t use them
Dunno the bloke who runs heap a diggin do ya? From around that way
No I don’t mate. I’ve seen it on the side of a truck in my travels but not sure who it is
Used to do all me excavator work when I was plumbing. Bloody legend
@ ever meet him, he’s a top bloke. Ex paratrooper. Lives a beer and can talk ya head off lol . Cheers mate
@johngibson3837 it all should stay mate. About 600 acres I think
@@stevesplacedownunder with that much land there's no excuse to just trash the lot, could even be an innercity farm or in Oz words probably inner suberb, hoping they don't just screw the lot
I always hate seeing a nice property like that turned into cookie cutter yuppie housing..😢
It’s awful mate. It really is
