- Here is a quick Jamaican Rice & Peas recipe. Made using canned kidney beans for those days that you forgot to soak your beans overnight and simply don’t have enough time on your hands to cook them down until they’re tender.
This recipe is rich in flavour, made with creamed coconut and the authentic fragrant flavours of thyme and scotch bonnet.
Ingredients:
800g canned kidney beans
100ml water
200g creamed coconut
1 onion, chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
3 sprigs of thyme
1 spring onion
1 scotch bonnet
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
500g long grain rice, washed and drained

@@JimiBegbaajiIt's not too late, is it? You might not have anyone you need to cook for anymore, but you still gotta eat, don't you
Amazing tasty authentic Jamaican rice and peas, shelly well cooked just how I like it, scotch bonnet pepper gives that lovely flavour not to mention the coconut cream oh wow excuse me, this is a winner in my opinion.
We just made this quick simple recipe and it was delicious. So impressed 😋 x
@FromTheArtLtd How many cups of water did you use for this?
Hiya. I half the whole recipe as this was just too much. I use a whole can of coconut milk and fill half way up with water swirl around and that does the job.
Tomorrow 's dinner my granddaughter will be so happy we finally found a quick recipe
Finally, a recipe that's simple and easy to make 👍🏾 thx
very professional and informative cut ✂️ 👏 👌
Very classy and good especially when prepared with coconut milk.
This I can make!!! Thank for taking out the mystery ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Are you a singer someone asked😊 I'm a black man not that tall and visiting the Philippines and people asking if I'm a basketball player, if you haven't visited the Philippines it's very very cheap very busy and friendly people. Your videos are great
🤔 What does this have to do with the video?
Never tried Jamaican food before, this looks great though. Thanks for the video, got something new to try.
Hope you enjoy it. Next try our simple Jamaican dumpling recipe 👌🏾
If you're as cool as you make it sound, you'll pair it with ackee and saltfish😮
Sounds cool to me friend, like expanding my horizons.@@07kstephen

No problem!! ❤️
Awesome, I will be giving this a try
I'm single and will have to break down the amount of ingredients for 4 people to prevent waste but will definitely try.
Freeze whatever is leftover
Love rice and peas! 🤤
Same we can’t get enough of it!
I use Gungo, but they make me fart big timeLOL
No way is this real, I'm trying this in the morning 😮
Thank you!💝💝💝
Quick and simple, thank you
Thanks for that, especially the tinned version as that’s all we really deal with over here in 🇬🇧
Dried kidney beans are widely available in cities in the UK. Can get them from supermarkets, local Caribbean shops, African shops and Asian shops.
Can imagine in more rural areas they're harder to come by.
Thank you…This is exactly as my manager thought me ❤❤❤
This was a helpful video, thanks for sharing 😊
Glad it was helpful!😊
What about the piment on the cutting board?
Looks amazing brotha, Nuff Respect ✊🏾
👊🏾👊🏾
Well done but i make coconut cream boil longer before i add rice
I felt like 200g of coconut cream was way too much, probably needs half...otherwise the rest was amazingly perfect
The only problem I ever have when making this is my water to rice ratio. Too much water it’s mushy when done. Not enough then it’s crunchy. I’m try tho method and see if it helps.
Wait Haitian makes this same rice my favorite
This tastes amazing. Thank you very much 🎉❤❤❤
I'm glad you like it 👌🏾✨
Thank you for sharing! I appreciate you 🙏🏾
You are so welcome
Can you use coconut milk instead of coconut cream? Is the rice par-boiled?
The rice isn't par-boiled it's just washed
I used a can of coconut milk instead and it was delicious!
Yes no
Coconut cream made mine sweet. I’d go with coconut milk next time. 🫤
I love the color. What exact brand of kidney beans you used and what color on the bag ?
Can’t find Scotch bonnet where I live, would jalapeño work?
No pimento?
very helpful recipe 😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Is the rice cooked already, or do you cook the rice in the broth?
I watched the video 3 times and looking for when the rice was added !😭
Great music!
🙌🏾✨
Love this
Do I have to drain beans or not not very clear?
No you want that flavour!
Could I use Basmati rice for this recipe? If so do I need ro change the measurements at all?
Could I ask what type/brand rice you used please?
We use basmati Tilda rice 😊
Will the bean juice make the rice nasty???
@@alexissmith285 not at all, it will also help to bring out that signature rice and peas colour
Easy Peasy
🙌🏾🙌🏾
I see what you did there
QUESTION, HOW HOT DOES THE SCOTCH BONNET MAKE THE DISH???
Because the pepper is whole and not chopped, it adds very little in the way of heat. It’s a subtle flavour.
Where can I find creamed coconut like that? Thank you fo 2:35 r making this so simple too. I love, love, rice and peas!
You can use coconut milk in a can aswell. You can find it at wholefoods or most caribbean aisles in the supermarket
@@ByNatureFoodI was gonna ask if I could use the tin milk too 👌🏾
What if I only have cocinar oil
What do you do with the spring onion throw it away?
Throw it in for added flavour 👌🏾
I followed this video step by step yet my rice burnt. What did I do wrong or what aren't you showing/explaining?
You have stir constantly remember you are using coconut milk and not just water also make sure you don’t have the fire too high
Put on very low heat.. I have a gas hob and could barely see the flames I had it on so low.. Need to try and get a very gentle simmer, and remember to stir regularly 😊
This happened to me. All that work…video wasn’t clear
🔥🔥🔥

I can't wait to try this recipe! Whats the music you used for this vid? I tried shazaming it and couldn't find it.
What’s the song? If you happen to know, link me!
Hey. Im about to recreate but couldnt find scotch bonnet. Can i add normal chilli? Also did u drain can of beans? Sorry newbie here
Thanks
You can use habanero
You don’t drain the beans you add the liquid it came with into the pan too
What kind of long grain rice was used ?
What’s the substitute for scotch bonnet?
Some people say a habanero can used instead, hope this helps!
Do I have to use scotch bonnet pepper?
You don’t have to but it adds a nice kick to the recipe 👌🏾
Can I toss all this in a rice cooker
potential but not sure how it will come out. let me know how it goes
You use basmati but the recipe says long grain
What if I only got coconut milk I'm a can and not coconut cream..how does that work?
Still works. I would still advise letting the coconut cook for about 5 mins after adding since some of them in the can come with clumps.
Coconut milk works well. For those that don’t know it’s available in cans at the grocery store.
Surprised to see there's no pimento berries in the recipe
Tried this and my scotch bonnet pepper popped and made it spicy like very spicy what did I do wrong ?
Heat was probably too high
Ok then thank you for reply
Did you boil your peas before the video ?
Yes, you can also used tinned if necessary
Thank you my yout 😅
Sweet
how may does this recipe serve? What size pot you used?
The creamed coconut I used was soo sweet, what should I use ?
Coconut milk from a tin will work aswell
This looks like basmati rice no?
Yeah, You can use basmati rice 🤌🏾✨
it's brown rice or whole grain rice, has a better nutritional value compared to white rice but more gluten
This with some chicken thighs in jerk sauce, oh boy
What brand of rice do you use? I think that's important because the uncle Ben's doesn't seem to work!
Tilda 👌🏾
But this is Rice & Beans ?? Can it be made with Peas instead of the Red Beans ? Whatever - I shall enjoy , thank you for this easy recipe.
Rice and peas is a Jamaica Rice and kidney beans dish
@@prod.bynil-oh7440 🤔 Very confusing ! I tried the recipe last week, and mine did not end up like this on the vid.....mine was very wet , but it tasted very good. Think I used too much liquid.
Thanks 😄@@kelisbrown1291
A whole scotch bonnet like dt ?😂
Why so pale
😂😂
It’s not pale tho lol!
you’re blind.
Water is wrong. Should be 1 litre of water
The amount of water is 100ml, as stated.👍
200g coconut cream is the whole packet needs more water
Deffo needs more water
Those are clearly beans and not peas. Typical Jamaican gibberish.
