    Thanks this is very helpful, 15 degrees hotter is great but im sure in the winter some nights still get below freezing or in the low 40's right? Does the heat pad provide enoguh heat for that?

    Do you need to disinfect the logs you find and put in enclosure. By the way thanks for all the informative videos will definitely help me care for my new red tegu that’s coming soon.

    Great video! do you keep your tegus outdoor year round? Also do you need to cleanup poops etc? or the enclosure is bioactive enough, and nature can take care it self?

    • @RoseCityReptilesTX
      @RoseCityReptilesTX  5 років тому

      When they poop it is gone in a couple hours. Percent balanced biom being outside. I keep them outside from end of February until beginning of November. They brumate indoors during this time.

    Do you use treated lumber for the entirety of the enclosure build or have you found untreated to be just as good? Just checking as treated is more expensives. 😬

    I live in Surprise Arizona would it be too hot and dry to do somethin like this in my backyard for a tegu?

    • @RoseCityReptilesTX
      @RoseCityReptilesTX  4 роки тому +1

      No it wouldn't. I would recommend a misting system that can turn on daily to help cool things down and provide humidity.

    Just something to consider. I have a unlimited supply of worms and lawn grubs in my back yard where there are no pesticides used or fertilizer. The downside, and I called my breeder to see, because this aspect crossed my mind, if this is ok and they warned me of possible and likely parasites from the naturally caught insects and worms. They told me to pretty much strictly stick to farm-raised and bred insects. My breeder said there is a high risk of making your Tegu or other reptiles sick which means a costly visit to a vet. My tegu loves grubs and worms but I won't risk making him sick. Just think while the recommendation of not buy wild caught reptiles is because they typically have parasites. They get parasites from feeding on insects from the wild. They told me about the parasites that the reptiles can get but I can't remember now. Just thought I'd bring this up here right or wrong either way. Something to seriously consider.

      The heat mat we use is designed for outdoor use, as well as the flood light and dome are all for outdoor use, so the rain isn't an issue. The heat mats and lighting is not a requirement, I just decided to add it so I could have them outside longer.

    Great video! I’ve learned a lot from watching all your videos. I live in a dry hot Central Valley in California with low levels of humidity. Will a outdoor cage with organic Cypress mulch for the substrate and watering it everyday help with humidity levels? I want to get a Tegu, but only have room outside. Thanks for any information

      Yes you can keep them outdoors. I know people that do in California. Just keep mist the substrate daily. 1 that will raise humidity and 2 will help cool the enclosures in the hot sun. They have automatic misting systems for pretty cheap and some DIY.

    Someone said it won’t be detrimental to the tegu health if there are over cast days
    Given that wound mean it would die over night that’s not the case so I’m assuming it won’t be that bad

    That’s one I have yet to try on my blue. Night crawlers. Worth a shot. He has not been a very big eater since day one and he was also very picky at times when he would take the turkey, chicken, etc.. He is now turning down crickets and other insects because he wants his fuzzy mouse. Well a lot of the times. Don’t get me wrong, he is healthy, friendly as can be no matter what’s going on whenever, temps/humidity, substrate, space, etc.. all good. He is really only wanting mouse or nothing. I got him in August 2018. He’s 16.5 inches and probably only 2 inches wide at his most. Size doesn’t bother me but I want him to remain healthy. I even tried what you suggested but he takes his fuzzy mouse serious. Lol

    • @RoseCityReptilesTX
      @RoseCityReptilesTX  5 років тому +1

      Honestly if husbandry is all correct then just provide him with a healthy diet. If all he wants is fuzzy mice then give him some tough love. Nothing wrong with not feeding him until he eats what he has to. But like I said, triple check to make sure its not a husbandry issue.
