- In this final video of the Man Cave Series, we work on the steel liner interior as well as our aluminum gutter installation. In it I show you our window and door trim detail as well as the thought process behind installing the steel in the order we do. Bonus footage at the end shows the gutter detail on the gable trim hopefully making sense. Stick around for some building drone footage at the end with my Mavic 2 Zoom from DJI.

I’m an older guy and have been around construction and manufacturing all my life. I continue to be impressed by the quality and attention to detail you demonstrate. I wish you were closer to Ohio, absolutely beautiful work.
Make that Washington!!!
I couldn't even get him to come to Indiana for mine.
I read the entire Ryan’s ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan’s Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan’s Shed Plans.
Man I can't tell you how much I enjoy your humility when it comes to your work!!!! Those window trims are great!
I find it so hard to believe that somebody that is such a perfectionist would rather leave a corner that looks unfinished and dirty and not even a slight bead of caulking in window corner. I would never doubt anything you do because I appreciate your attention to everything and recommend you first all the time. Guess it is just a personal decision and your experience that I would trust every time. Amazing channel.
Kyle, I'm a 30+ year Roofer. Your metal work is amazing. Probably the best work I've ever seen. I really enjoy watching your work. Keep it up.
Thanks Robert
Love how you plan the order of the ceiling panels on the Megadeck. Genius! Worth the extra time!
Really like how you ask for advice if you think there may be a better way of doing things. That said, I think a lot of people could learn tons from you.
Sure hope you keep them coming. Enjoy watching your work and seeing the details of assembly.
I would definitely caulk windows to the wood framing prior to installing metal trim (with a high quality 'sealant', not latex caulking or silicone) if for no other reason than for additional wind/weather seal. I'm a trim carpenter by trade (45 yrs), so I too prefer wood window returns, but I understand having to do what the customer wants. I love your attention to detail and have learned a lot from watching your videos. This is the first time I have seen something I'm not crazy about, so I wonder if this might work. I personally don't like the look of the 1x1 metal coming up on the window or seeing the raw edge of the piece on the jamb. I think I would take a pc of 1 1/2" coil stock and bend about a 1/2" hem on it. Place that flat on the wood framing and butt it to the window. Then install your jamb steel and tuck it into the hem. The hem would cover any difference in jamb width, there would be no screws or fasteners in the jamb steel, and the thickness of the hem would cover the gap between the window & framing.
Yes, please at least caulk/seal for the sake of wind penetration. No matter how well the wrap is taped and laid, and how the siding is done, or how tight the window is, that wind is going to find a way in/out. It's nice to have a building breath even inside, but I prefer leaving it up to a mechanical solution if need be.
Paul Allen hhgggggl
They silicone around the flange when they install the windows.
The windows look great. Honestly if you caulk it good you never even notice it.
@@SephYuyX that's exactly what I was thinking. We call it a sandwich bend. Use it alot in situations similar to this. But man they do some beautiful work!
Have to say a grey caulk would look much nicer than the last piece of 1 inch trim.
Kyle, that trim work looks great and shows a lot of attention to detail, which has become a trade mark of your company. I look forward to the next video.
I look at it this way...you’re doing it your way and your customers are happy! If you’re not going back to fix anything...don’t change what you’re doing. Customer satisfaction adds to the best form of advertising, word of mouth!
WOW! I'm not in construction & I just watched (11) videos back to back. Great stuff.
Haha that’s awesome thank you
Thanks for taking us along with you....never thought I would like the metal inside but it is a fast finish...👍
I love the build series, I understand the work that goes into it, but I sure enjoy, and learn from them...
Hi Kyle, what ever video you make, I look forward to watching. Attention and implementation to detail never gets old! You & your crew do great work, keep it up!!!
Regardless of how you addressed the small gap around the windows, it's great to see a fellow tradesman take pride in his craftsmanship! That is, unfortunately becoming more and more uncommon! Awesome attention to detail!
Details, details, details!
That's how it all works out to clean, tight and right at the end.
I mentioned this before to you on the Stool-pan trim derail; run a shim in that outer corner, tapered down, back to the casing edge, and few throughout the stool span 3 or 4 should do it, this will hold the stool tight to the jamb and the window edge thus eliminating the need for that final gap-spacer piece.
Awesome work.........you guys ROCK!
Now, about the sound system for the shop.......I'm your man.
It's nice to see a top craftsman take pride in his work like you and your team do!...Excellent job here...
Thanks
I like your videos from start to finish and then I really like it when you go in a few months after the job is done and see how the building owner is using it and how the mechanicals and stuff had been installed. Really enjoy all of your videos. 🇺🇸
Once again beautiful job guys, I'm very impressed by the detail you guys put into your work. I'm not a carpenter or tradesperson but one of the things I always notice is the details, the smallest attention to detail says a lot about the quality of work. My brother was one of the best vinyl siding installers and roofing contractor in our area and his attention to doing aluminum
trim was the best I have seen.
I've never seen a builder in either Oklahoma where I grew up and am back in now or in Texas where I lived for 25 years pay so close attention to details that you do. Hats off to a true craftsman.
This guy is the greatest builder of all time! I love this dude he knows everything when it comes to putting up these pole buildings. Lots of wisdom and experience!
Thanks Jeff I don’t know it all I promise.
RR Buildings getting there I assume. Greetings from Norway Koos
Tight and on point sounds about right! Looks beautiful as always, Happy New year to you, your family and your team. Thanks brother.
Double thumbs up on the window trim! Way better than anything I've seen on typical steel buildings in my area. Fantastic overall build. Your customer will be proud to claim the cave and show it off to his friends!
I really like the window detail trims, I think they look clean . Very good. I love your attention to detail.
Kyle that is one dam fine mancave you can be very proud of your work. Excellent how you and the gutter guy can coordinate your work to create an excellent gutter system! As always your work is amazing! Looking forward to the next project!
JGK said it best, except I don't mind saying that I am 75, your attention to detail is unbelievable in this day and age. Someone gave you some extremely good basic training while you were growing up! It is truly refreshing to watch the caliber of workmanship you and your crew exhibit on a daily basis!
Enjoyed the build as always. Appreciate all your hard work for everyone’s information and enjoyment. Thanks Kyle & crew from uk
Thanks for sharing all ofthese built ! Keep up the good work ! Happy new year everybody
Your work is amazing! As a window guy, we carry two types of vinyl trim to finish off windows. Used them for 13 years with minimum issues. Trim Fast out of Illinois and RWD out of Florida. Easy to use, durable and becomes part of the window.
The trim on windows looks great I wish more people took as much pride in there work as you guys do!
That’s a great space, thanks for sharing the build!
This was the coolest building I've seen on your channel. Great job. So many angles and a lot of detail work.
Thank you
That looks amazing! I would love to have something like that one of these days! Great work!
I think the inside window trim looks great. I also like how you called the drink a pop. I grew up in and around Springfield, IL.
Absolute perfection!! Well done Kyle.
You're such an inspiration, makes me want to get out there and learn. Attention to detail is a huge part for a great looking building and you have nailed it. Up most respects from Australia!!
The Master Class Series seriously needs to put you on their show! You and your crew are fucking ninja warriors at post framing.
Haha thanks make a phone call let’s go!
I have watched all of your videos. Have to thank you for the information you provide. It gave me the confidence to build my own building using the methods you use. Built a 30x60x16 building. On hold right now as to a big snow storm and not having temperature to melt off snow. Kyle Thanks again!
Keep up the great videos.
I would say when you have new details and lessons definitely go in more depth video. But still like seeing the progress of a building as it goes up. And have learned things on just watching you work.
Your trim work is as good as it gets. You know you build a fine building because if the trim work is done that well no worries about the rest.
You guys do amazing things with metal. I really want a shop/home and after watching your videos i totally get how the possibilities are endless! Keep up the good work guy's!!👍👏👏
Man! I couldn't get anything done around my house today because I of watching this build. It was very relaxing watching you guys work. Another excellent build and I am sure your customer was very happy with the outcome. You have an excellent crew and as usual your attention to detail and sharing your knowledge is what I like most. I believe the window trim also looks great the way you did it. It added a bit of flair to the window. Good luck to you and your crew on future builds. Be safe.
Wow! Great detail on that window trim. I have a brake here at the farm that my uncle gave me so I usually whip out my own j channels and stuff out of coil stock. Mine doesn’t look as good as yours but I see some things I can incorporate into my projects around the farm. Trim is always the hard part to finish out and make it look good.
All the way from NZ I am very impressed with your work ethic. Extremely well done.
Awesome work!! Always a pleasure to see you guys making this stuff happen. Just top notch results, it's like your tools go to 11 or something.
I for one would love to see a revisit of your builds, great work guys.
Great stuff. Always enjoy seeing how you guys do things across the pond.
Nice build, it brings memories back when I was in that building industry!
I've watched a number of your videos and appreciated how easy you made everything look, while showing the process from A to Z. However, this series is the best you have done, imo. Loved all the small details you showed and how you did it. Really enjoyed and learned a lot from this.
Thanks for the feedback
I just sat and looked at all the videos of this build without stopping...that's how much I enjoyed it. Great job guys! 😀 Looks like a fun build. I love the attention to detail, and the videos were very well done and informative. Here in Trinidad and Tobago, we don't do much building with lumber because of termites...most of it is concrete and blocks.
You guys have a great team...keep up the good work. 👍🏻
Love the look of the metal trim around the window. The white semigloss has a great modern look.
I like how you lined your screws up with the window light dividers, NICE touch!
Hey , I hope you continue the build series on a unique build like this one . I watch every video and like seeing the progress . I can appreciate your knowledge and precision on these builds. I’m commenting from northern Alberta Canada. I know nothing about your trade as I am a pipe welder, I love to watch and learn tho !
Great work. Love the window finishes.
Great series of videos, a man after my own heart with your attention to detail. Hate when fellow tradesman say ‘you won’t see that’ If I know something is not quite perfect, it’s not staying. You show a lot of pride in your work, and explain how you go about things, which is great to see. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Man that lift sure is nice for working on ceilings.
With these post builds I love how there’s nothing in your way for installing the metal on roofs and walls.
Nice work guys!
Love watching your videos. Always nice to follow real craftsmanship.
Nice job, you're a great craftsman. Nice to see someone who pays attention to every detail. Thumbs up!!
Now this is what quality work looks like. Well done.
WOW!!! Beautiful work!!!
The pre-formed and precut metal window trim goes in nicely. The screws in the trim match the ones on the wall so it's a good approach. Nice work!
I build post frame buildings, but haven't done metal finishing inside, yet I really like what you are doing. I appreciate learning from you if and when I get a customer who can afford these amenities.
About the window trim:. Maybe trim before the window is installed. Use that 95° bend idea but built into the flat metal on the return. Then you have no gap on the bottom. The window would then press up against the trim ( bending the metal closer to 90™) - completing the seal. If someone was obsessed with caulk, they could caulk behind the trim where it would seal trim to window without showing.
quite excellent building and whole metal concept is great
The videos are very detailed and comprehensive, I enjoy learning the ins and out of Construction of metal buildings. As a business owner I'd like to eventually contract some similar projects. Thanks for all the effort put into the making of the film
Nice work guys. I think I speak for everybody when I say we like the full build series'. It helps us picture what we want in our dream shops and buildings and we like to see the projects progress. Keep up the fine craftsmanship and keep up the great vids. Cheers from Canada.
Excellent job! In my old age, I have learned if you build a house with a caulking gun, people will drive by and say " that house must have been built with a caulking gun." Paint a house with a broom, it will show. Excellent job...and it shows.
You're attention to detail is amazing keep up the good work
RR BUILDING IM OCD BIG TIME AND I THINK THE WINDOWS AND THE BUILDINGS ARE EXCELLENT!!! I NEED AND WANT ONE BAD!!! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Im not a big fan of the final trim for the windows. I think caulking would look much better because the white trim takes out a little too much color from the actual window trim. Caulk is no fun to work with and get perfect but I would prefer it if it were my building. Your attention to detail is outstanding by the way. You guys do amazing work.
The NICEST buildings ever seen!
You do an incredibly clean job! Nice Work! Keep it up.
If I ever find affordable land and buy it in the West, I would pay the added travel costs to have you do my build. Demonstrated skills! 👍👍👍
Great work Kyle. Maybe for the window liners. Use a a J Chanel around the R.O to accept a 3/4” Azek or Versatech pvc liner. Cut the J using one full continuous piece with corner bends. Build the liner box as one before inserting it. No gaps, no cracks, no caulk. I did this on all my basement windows. 👌
Kyle love your videos brother. Really look forward to watching your videos after a hard day of graft. Keep up the good work 👍💪💪
I have to agree, this is probably one of the best build series, showing so much "how to" on different details. I'm thinking this is also the floor plan where you showed how to layout for the Posts and used the bat boards to square everything off. Thanks, Kyle! I think I am sold on the Whether Logic system you use now as well as the roof system you use that doesn't show all the screws. I'm glad you're still sharing the content on your builds!
i always give a thumbs up before a look the video, because i know its gonna be a good one, keep on building this great cave's :-)
andarthome142 same here. Enjoy your day,and the videos. Greetings from Norway
Do you also tip the waitress first before she brings you out a burnt hamburger? :-) j/k haha
Nice work, thanks for sharing the whole process, including the gutters! :-)
Another awesome video series! Brings back memories working for Wick fresh out of school.
Planning on getting mine built and your videos help alot anyway to make the ceiling sturdier
Window trim looks very clean.
Awesome detail work!
Really appreciate your time effort and energy. Thank you
Thank you
Wow such a great looking building!
I for one like the full showing of the build. Another good video keep them coming bro.
We love your videos. Keep up the great work.
It all looks good to me! It’s a small percentage of the population(customer) that is going to pay that closely to details! Only a true craftsman keeps an open mind and is open to suggestions.
Great build. Great craftsmanship.
The way you do windows looks fine and dandy to me. I like the way you build, in general, too. Keep up the great work.
Lovely attention to detail.
Loved watching this build. You are a master at you work. Keep it up
Nice piece of property , gonna look awesome when all the landscaping gets done when the snow melts. Nice work again!
Man, you guys build some nice buildings! I'd love one.
Hi i think ur one of the best informer nd builder i have seeing in u tube thank u for the info nd the good jobs
It is a good look. Great work by the way.
You guys do some fantastic work. Keep smiling. by the way, it was -38 F this morning in Canada, just across the river from International Falls Mn.
Looks great! love the attention to detail. As for the window trim i would caulk around the window and cover it with your own custom trim. Just use a good old manual brake and make all four pices custom you probably need to taper them slightly make a hem on them for the outside. you then lock them in to the J trim without a hem with the hems on the custom pieces. then finally rivet them in to the windows or use smallest possible screws if its wood.
Another great build guys
Amazing job y’all. On to the next.
Very well done!
Window Trim looks great! I have seen a few different ways of doing that and I like yours the best. Awesome video! Also thanks for the j trick around the door. I am by no means a builder but planning on doing liner panel in my garage and it’s great to learn some tricks. Keep up the great work.
