All Computer Resources Remove SKIM from ECM

- What this video shows is that after ACR reprogrammed the ECM to ignore the SKIM, the SKIM warning light in the cluster still lights up.
As you can see the engine starts, but within several seconds the SKIM light appears. What that indicates is that the ECM is not shutting down the fuel pump and ignition spark; as the SKIM was telling it to do (which is correct), but the ECM is not preventing the SKIM light from appearing in the instrument cluster (which is not acceptable).
My request to ACR is to review their programming, determining what aspect of turning off the SKIM notification light was overlooked, programming another ECM correctly and sending that one to me for installation. I would then return the ECM that is allowing the engine to run, but leaving the SKIM notification on.
This video saved my jeep, had the same problem and I installed a new ECM from All Computer Resources with the SKIM removed. Now my Jeep is back on the road. Thank you for sharing this!!

I had the same problem with my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both keys I had just stopped working. Got the SKIM light and the vehicle shut down 4 out of 5 times I tried to start it. Watched the video here and read the comments and decided to send my ECM to ACR and have the SKIM removed from the program. Cost me $100 and that included shipping both ways. On advice from the guy at ACR I disconnected the SKIM module connector plug from the SKIM module in the steering column and stowed it out of the way.
I got the ECM back from ACR today and installed it. Started right up but I still get the NO-KEY light. I can live with that.

I am going to try that. I just saw a video where the owner disconnect the bulb to the no key light. Vu will just put tape over it.

After getting thrown out of dealership for being "difficult," I bought a new skim online and towed my Liberty to another dealership where they told me I just needed a new key. $17 online, $65 to cut and program. Rufunded the new skim. Thank god I didn't let those a**holes push me around. Over $900 saved.
You never said what your problem was. What was it? What code was pulled?

@@TheAlexxxherrera Sorry, i missed your reply. It was a no start and no communication with the PCM issue. So there was no code. They tried to sell me on a whole new skim system. Ended up being a bad key fob despite me repeatedly asking if that could be the problem.
had my 1999 dodge caravan at the dealer for 3 months. told cannot be fixed bad bcm do not make them no more. sale the car for parts

Guys, I have only dealt with All Computer Resources once. At the rate things have progressed with them, I really don't see me ever doing it again. Their PCM works, but they didn't disable the SKIM function at all like I paid an extra $50 to do. And yes, I had the SKIM module disconnected a week prior to installing their PCM but it won't stay running with it disconnected. If they fix the problem, I will update this nasty note. They just told me that they did and said that I am modifying or have modified the vehicle. Their "head engineer" won't even call me to discuss the issue. I would call them if I could get to their technical support that way.
Paul Standaert I am having the same issue with there ECU. No one will call me back can’t talk to a live person it’s all contact VIA email. And it takes days for them to respond.
yeah like on my dodge 1999 caravan oh you need a fixed and programmed bcm plug and play- i put it in no start . we do not give refunds. 400 bucks. i called my credit card dispute and i got a full refund

@@paulstandaert5709 you have the pcm - bcm- skim module . my dodge does not have the skim module under the dash. i am told it is programmed in the bcm. i think flagship is leaving this out of the bcm so it dont work.
I would like to know if it is possible to have ECU lock up(no crank), but there are no DTC errors?

John Charleston, can you please respond I just ordered from acr they said they can remove the security, im guessing thats the skim right. Was yours plug and play and did you unplug your skim before installing the new pcm. Ty for your time

What I noticed is that there is a rubber grommet above the computer in the sheet metal where the rain catches. Apparently over time this starts to leak and drips right on the computer. I pulled out the grommet and sealed it with latex back into the hole. Dumb place to put a computer.
Will the power door lock buttons still work on the fob?
Did this and my Jeep won’t even turn on now looks like it’s needing the skim module to turn on
Sorry for not getting back to those with questions quickly - notifications from UA-cam filter to a folder that I don’t see . . .
After re-connecting the PCM and starting the engine the SKIM light is still on (@ 5:43).
Next I completely removed the SKIM, restarted the engine and after a few seconds the SKIM light come on again (@ 7:11).
OK - what the video does not show is what I did next - I again contacted All Computer Resources (ACR). I spoke to the manager of the programming department and told him my story (I believe this was the 3rd failed program with this order). I explained that the last programmer I spoke with said he was preping the program to ignore the SKIM, and run correctly without it. But as you see, the SKIM light was still back on - not what I wanted.
The manager told me that programmer was incorrect and that the SKIM did need to be working correctly and he agreed to reprogram the PCM again at their cost. I sent it back and when it returned I had the SKIM in place and buttoned up. I installed the PCM, fired up the Jeep, and all worked well.
It’s been over a year now; a bit less than 20k on the new engine and PCM - all is working well.
How did you get a hold of them? Their tech support won't even bother to call me. All you can reach is the sales "department" and you have to go online to make a support ticket. I asked numerous times to just call me and we can figure things out in about 6 minutes. After exchanging emails for an entire day, Ryan is, for whatever reason, telling me that I have or am modifying the vehicle somehow and he can't "diagnose" it.
How do you know if it's a bad key or the PCM/SKIM? I'm having the same issue with my 99 Grand Cherokee.

The bulb for the key icon in the sensor cluster can be removed from the back thereby eliminating that OH SO ANNOYING key icon/light.

The skim system can be removed from the computer , but it lies dormant. If you do not use a non skim body control module in conjunction with the non skim ecm , the body module will communicate that it is a skim body module and report its code in order to sync with the ecm. This will enable skim in the ecm. At that point you will have to reset the ecm back to non skim. Skim cannot be "removed " from an ecm, it can only be flagged dormant in the ecm program.

Okay I'm going to end up doing what you did getting a new PCM and taking that damn skim unit out but from what I understand the actual gauge cluster knows that there was supposed to be a skim unit and is going to throw that light regardless so take your gauge cluster apart and remove the light
So, after talking further with All Computer Resources they convinced me to let them replace the PCM one more time - and considering the shop manuals, I read that described to problems one would / could have by NOT installing the SKIM I decided to do that. When I installed the replacement PCM the SKIM and all other electrical functions worked as expected.
Did you have to do anything else? Purchased computer from ACR, minus the skim, still have the same issue. Cranks and goes dead. Key light comes on.

john. i have done the same thing had used pcm reflashed and skim removed from progeam. light is still on if i read this right. you sent the pcm back, they reprigramed it, reinstalled the skim ? and niw the light is off. or did not install the skim and light is off. also do you alarm buttons work or no mine do not now.
The skim is a federally mandated thing for anti-theft and is a curse until eliminated.
Remove the skim/key light/lamp and go on your happy way.
Its a gift to be rid of that skim crap on chrysler because when it screws up, you are screwed.
If you need extra buttons on a keychain may I suggest BULLDOG remote starter and keyless entry. Problem solved.
It is not federally mandated in the United States. At least, not back in 2000. I have a 2009 model car that has no such anti-theft immobilizer.
mine does that, but a few seconds later, shuts down all the gauges, after another few seconds every light on the cluster comes on and all the gauges stay at zero even though its still running and driving down the road, but when all the lights come one nothing inside the jeep but the door locks work, no dome light, no windows, door chime nothing. any ideas
oddly it was the passenger side window switch causing all my issues from dead gauges, rough idle, engine stalling, all doors and locks failing, windows clicking over and over at random. literally all of it. and yes i put the bad switch back in to see if the issues returned and yes they did. even did this swap over and over while the jeep was sitting idling in the driveway and was shocked to see all my gauges come back to life with the new switch and fail with the old one... wouldn't have believed it unless i seen it for myself
That switch works on the PCI communication bus in the vehicle. All it takes is one module to scramble the data bus, and then a whole lot of stuff doesn't work.
Could this be why my new PCM is overfeeding the fuel pump? I didn't have this done!

Hello i just buy a ecm to ACR with skim delete for a dodge nitro RT 4.0 when i turn the key to start nothing happen and after few minutes every light on the dashboard go off… no crank, no click,batterie is new starter is new, the only way to start the engine is to use startpilot in air intake and push off thé starter relay and jump one wire to crank the starter and then the engine start… big probleme …my question is do i have something to do with the wire of the skim ?

I spoke to another programmer - they insisted that I reinstall the SKIM module. They rebuilt (programmed) the PCM again, and I installed it as before. This time the SKIM did not fail and all has been well since then.

@@PcGuyBry I got it fix one guys in jeep forum help me .my jeep 1999 wj 4.7 .it have auto headlights switch option. If I leave it in auto .the light will turn on and off by it self. Even car not running.if turn headlights off and it don't turn on and off by it self. I bought new headlights switch and it works like normal. I hope you understand me .

the "no key" light stays on, that's the trade off, it's something you will have to deal with or hide it. All the guys say the light stays on afterwards
It did stay on and I complained to the company that programmed my PCM. They reprogrammed it and the SKIM light is off.
I'd just take the bulb out of the cluster... unless it is an LED soldered in, then maybe not.
@@jcthewizard I would like to know how they did this. That is the good service. But many just reset the PCM and you must leave the Skim module uplugged.. the alarm will eventually be set off.
I'm going to have this done to mine as well but it stays on thats fine ill just pull my cluster which takes 5 secounds and pull the light bulb that illuminates it to easy!
Not the case. These have tiny LEDs soldered into the board on these clusters.

Would have loved it if this worked for me on my 2002 Grand Cherokee. Gave ACR two chances to get it right and my car still shuts off after running for 2 seconds and throws code p1686 (no communication to skim). Check the internet. ACR has as many, if not more, complaints against them as they do success stories.

I am going through the exact same thing. Re-connecting the SKIM module results in it running great. But it ran great with the old PCM. most of the time, anyway. The SKIM kept killing it at random times and it has been exceedingly difficult to pin down the problem. So, I figured why not go this route?
I just ran into this issue. I been dealing with a nightmare regarding my Jeep for 14 months now. Finally buy a second brand new blank pcm from Chrysler after being defrauded by flagship1. No dealership in Canada have the correct tools to program the computer to my LJ. Had to pay 300$ to have it shipped to Wranglerfix. They programmed it and sent it back. Go and install it and turn the key and all it’s doing is cranking. Find out that the sentry key module activated the skim within the module. Removed and disconnected the sentry immobilizer. Just shipped the new pcm back to Wranglerfix to delete/deactivate the skim in the module so that I can try this again without the sentry key connected. I can’t believe this is happening to me. I wasn’t made aware of it. I thought with programming the skim would have been entirely disabled so it wouldn’t recognize the sentry key at all whether it be connected or not. Not the case. I really hope I get this settled soon.
The only question I have though is which key did you use after removing the sentry key immobilizer? Are you using the same key with the programmed chip in it from before you removed the sentry key?
I'm sorry, it's been several years now and I can't quite recall. However, I do know that I did put my SKIM reader back in and demanded the company reprogram the PCM (for free) which they did. This after I spoke with one of their lead programmers who said the engine and other items would not run correctly without leaving the SKIM in.
The ONLY number they needed was the original VIN and the actual mileage (within 10 miles). When I reinstalled it - everything worked. So, the major problem was their improper programming as well as their saying the PCM would work without the SKIM.

You know... back in the day, we had this thing called a phone book, and it had names and addresses for an awful lot of people in it. It was never a problem.
And if you own property, all you have to do is go down to the county seat and look up whatever plot of land and you can see who owns it.
And covering up a license plate for a craigslist ad does what exactly? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. All you have to do is walk down the street and grab license plates. Then walk up to the vehicle and get the VIN number, and then you can also get their last name off of their mail box and a street address.
What exactly do you think will happen?

No it isn't. Have you removed this style instrument cluster before? The main lights that provide light are twist in 194 lights. The "dummy" lights on this cluster are small soldered in leds that you definitely can't just twist and remove.

Have you physically seen what you're talking about or you're just replying with what makes sense in your own head? They are tiny light emitting diodes, no bulbs to "grab on and reef with needle nose" You rip out one of those diodes you're going to create issues.

this does not remove skim programming... this is just resetting skim... the security light stays on... eventually it can set the alarm off... then you are screwed... You must leave the skim unplugged... but one wrong issue and the alarm will trigger forever even with the skim removed.
