Stay Alive
I remember watching this on BBC2 at the time with my dad as a young teenager. I don’t mind admitting I’ve just watched it from start to finish again and cried. Just simply brilliant, a thing of beauty. I’ll never be able to put into word what the music that these guys made means to me. 💙
I was there. Just such an amazing band. I was at 83 I guess? My first ever concert. Makes me so emotional. It was The Crossing. And then I met him in Sound Control (music shop in Dunfermline) and he chose my first geeetar . Hahhaha happy memories
Right amazing music!
The BC songs are the only who make me cry everytime, I believe the God Is with these guys during the performance
Never see the likes of them again.❤️
The two biggest mistakes people make when listening to Big Country are not turning it up loud enough and not letting themselves feel the music. The walls should be shaking as well as one's soul.
I was there. Drove up from York, got tickets from a tout and then slept overnight in a lorry park in a 2cv. Rock n roll 😁
Now that's what I call rock and roll .. what a guy 😂😂😂😂 merry Christmas, someone needs to buy u a pint
Totally agree, thats commitment 😅
Had/probably still have this on vhs. The crossing should be in every household and these guys should go down as one of the best live bands ever
cd in my car and record in house since it came out
I never met you, Stuart Adamson, but I still miss you. Thanks for the music, it will always be a part of my life.
Marvelous Musicians and terrific song writers. We will never hear their like again in our lifetime.
Still miss Stuart so much, but thanks to Bruce and Mark for continuing to bring the music to us. Saw them a few weeks ago, another special night, made this old man feel like he was 18 again
One of the most original and best bands to ever grace Earth with their presence.
Hardly.
Untalented, niche.
Well said!......Sublime!
@@CC_Marauderwhy are you here then? 🤡
Best hair cut ever. Adamson rock God!
I was at the play house that night it my 20th Birthday that Hogmany am 55 now and will never forget that concert 😊
Holy crap, 34 years later and seeing this again. I have no words for how I feel, strangest mixture of grief and euphoria. But so glad to relive one of the very finest nights. BC1000stars, even by your own legendary standards you've surpassed yourself here. Thanks a million - you know how much it means to fans like us
That's what it's all about, isn't it. Keeping this amazing band's legacy alive. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks so much for the lovely comment. Stay Alive!
This show was and remains the epitany of New Year's for me. Such a fantastic band. Proper musicians. Not like the crap they put forward as music these days. Stuarts voice was so unique with its Scottish lilt and the twin guitar sound was the best since Thin Lizzy.
There was an incredible Quality to these guys music. . . They nailed their sound to the WALL! Their sound was so unique and innovative. . . They will always remain one of my all time favorite groups. . . Many Blessings to these guys. . . Saint
always and forever, RESPECT!!!
If you go back and read fanzines of the time, along with Echo and the Bunnymen, Big Country was regarded the absolute cutting edge of rock music in the aftermath and eventual repetitiveness of Punk. These bands were musically paying up the promise that Punk had seemed in the very beginning, yet finally came up short. Where were the Big Country imitators? I think Echo had them, but Big Country? I don't think there really were any, because how could you?
Listened to these guys since I was a youngin in kentucky. Still listening
👍🏹🔥
Adamson cooool. As fck. What a band .15 when I seen this.
Been so devoted to The Crossing, Steeltown, and The Seer lately. Such an inspiration. This music always stirs my soul.
My favorite band of all time. I was 16 when I
saw them in concert for the first time. It was early 1984 or late 1983 in Hollywood California at the Hollywood Palladium. It was my first concert without my parents and I was there with my best friend. The show was life changing. It left an indelible mark on my memory , never to be removed, and almost 40 years now and it still was the greatest rock concert I have ever attended.
Ah cha !! Stay alive !
Saw them in 82 at a club in Bristol before they were known, they were brilliant then and were for years to come
Adamson, Butler and Big Country kicking ass in Scotland...awesome...to bad we can't see this same lineup again...RIP Stuart...
I remember turning the TV on just by chance on New Years Eve 1984/85, I was transfixed. Where the rose is sown is still one of my favourites. What a band. Was lucky enough to see them live later. Stuart was just fantastic, taken far too soon.
48 years old and just discovering this great band..was always aware of them but never bothered with them till now..wow what a brilliant band..
Never too late, Ian! This is great to hear. 🙂
@@BC1000Stars def mate..great channel by the way!
Going tonight big country skids armoury show Carling academy can't wait never seen them live
Still, will always miss you Stuart
I'd go back to this era in a heartbeat
This is 'time machine' material for sure. It's on my list. 😁
So would i best years of my life
Paul Round that has to be one or proberly the best emotional and so so truthful comment I've ever read I've been following this unbelievably fantastic band for over 40 years and still I canna put it into words what there music meant & means to me still in discribable to me personally awe the decades later they are just SIMPLY THE BEST... and God do I miss Stuart so so so much it pains me still 22 years later. REST EASY BIG MAN :"")
I was born in 1984, this is incredible. Absolutely superb!
Tony Butler. One of the best bassists ever. Period. But that shirt! A Reject from "Flashdance."
sexy! ahem
Totally 80's.
I thought great bassist, poor discerner of t-shirts sizes
Stuart was my hero and the band the greatest.....those first 2 albums meant so much to me....my favorite live gig ever was theres in manchester even though i went on my own at 16, it felt like i was with a family who all understood
WE are relatives!!!😀
I was at the Apollo gig the night the IRA bombed the Grand in Brighton. The video for Where The Rose... was shot that day, at the soundcheck, and over my shoulder, at the gig.
Why is this band never mentioned in any reviews I read about the best Scottish bands? It's all about Deacon Blue, Simple Minds, Hue and Cry, Runrig , etc, etc. Why can nobody realise this was the greatest band to come out of Scotland. All great musicians and a great vocalist in Stuart❤
it's one of the best bands ever in this world
Love love this band, listened for years, still do, 😻 and running😻
Why did Stuart top himself. Makes me cry X
Spot on, one of the best bands in the past 30 years.
Dont think they were deemed cool and in music industry that is generally quite a negative..... 'Best band' is almost never about the best music in my opinion. Runrig ...pah !!
Love the guitar tone of the UK back in the 80s.
God i miss stuart i still playing ur stuff over and over my music era 80s and remember seeing them at least 4 times gone stuart but never forgotten
one of the best bands ever..
I saw BC twice in my early 20s. This show and at Edinburgh Odeon, where I also saw The Skids. Their music still stirs my soul, more than 35 years on. I’ll love The Crossing, Steeltown and The Seer until the day I die. RIP Stuart. ❤️
I love how the entire crowd keeps stomping & singing The Storm so loud after the band stops that Stuart has to intervene by saying "This next song (Chance) is actually much better." RIP Mr Adamson
A nice thought, but the crowd aren't singing "the storm", and that's not actually what Stuart says.
Regardless, seems like you enjoyed this amazing gig/upload, so kudos!!
The Best Band Ever.
So pleased I saw them live just once, fantastic live band, stay alive.
I was at this concert, 17 years of age absolutely loved them
My god............. Just how good was that!
An incredible connection between the band and its audience.
Pure energy on stage and it is also evident that everyone is having a good time. I loved the ending.
*Thank you very much for sharing this incredible material.*
Man that is fantastic.
R.I.P. Stuart. So deeply missed.
Thank you. I've been angry and depressed for the past two days. Listening to this was healing.
I was there, 15 years old & loving it. RIP Stuart
just f... in superb
I was aware of Big Country from MTV and The Crossing. I had The Seer on cassette. I'm 55 YO and rediscovering how great they were. Stay Alive!
Stay Alive, Tommy! Enjoy your rediscovering journey.
My last concert with my first girlfriend. We split a month later. Broke my heart. Loved this concert. We had a party after in our flat and everything seemed wonderful. Was 21 at the time. First time I have watched this.
Goosebumps indeed, still, in the year 2022. Timeless.
Man what a setlist
Great Band! I had tickets to see them at Jarry Park in Montreal in 1986, where they were one the headliners. We were so pissed it got rained out. Rip Stuart Adamsom.
wow Jarry Park. Was there once when I WAS 7. unfortunetly it was for an Expos game. My dad took me there while he was at a convention and we were staying at the Chatue Frantinec hotel, great memory, wish i could have been there for Stuart too
That bassline 👍👍👍
The master.
Camped out in freezing conditions on the Edinburgh playhouse steps to get tickets for this. What a fantastic concert and band. Will be watching this a few times, we are somewhere down the front, could almost touch Stuart. Thanks for posting BC1000stars.
I remember watching this like it was yesterday! By far the best band the world has ever seen, every one of them a genius - I love this music so much!
First live gig I ever went to. Hammersmith Odean. AMAZING. They set my expectations so high that night. They played for 2 1/2 hours and the crowd was insane. Thank for forming part of my life guys. You will always hold a special place in my heart. STAY ALIVE
Was at this just in front of Brucie. Saw them on Friday. Not quite the same without Stuart but still blew the roof off the house
saw them 6-8-13 at the gramercy in nyc when Mike Peters fronted. I love him for the Alarm but was not the same without Stuart.
Hahaha that's my possie!
Wow how wonderful that you were right there. I'm from down Under and we just missed by a wee thing. Very sad not to have seen the genius that is the dynamic between themuns. xxxxx
Watched them live in Hamburg in the 80´s. The mood was similar to this video - indiscribable. The problem was that the concert took place at university ("audimax") and all the people were dancing on the tables. Unforgettable!!
the sound of tony's bass playing on Harvest Home is unbelievable!
Goosebumps all over again 😊..2020 👍
Very best of Bass Player, Great Live Band
Nice to see Stuart smiling, looking happy. Seen BC a good few times but never managed the Hogmanay gigs. Brilliant to see. Fantastic band live. Phenomenal!
simply wow...no weakness in this band....Stu....why....I hope you're at peace....thank you for everything
Sheer magic. RIP Stuart you were so totally awesome.
never saw this new year show before.. just the one from year before in Glasgow.. brill
I remember that my introduction to Big Country was a live simulcast (in my late afternoon on the US west coast). I had always thought in retrospect that it was the famous Barrowlands show that made it onto video, but it makes more sense that this was actually the show I heard. Full props to the poster for bringing that back, it's a major part of my late teen years.
It was Glasgow Barrowland the year before that was shown in the states & came out on VHS......I was at the Glasgow gig
I love it!!!...one of the best live bands I've ever seen!...brings back some wonderful memories...so glad I had the privilege of seeing them live at The Fox Theater in Atlanta back in 1984..still have the ticket stub, too...thanks for sharing this concert.
U lucky one. My dad refused to bring me along to see them in 1984 in the City hall Cork. Saw them in 1986 and many times onwards.
They were amazing in the barrow lands in Glasgow love this band
Wow what a great trip down memory lane. BC at their best. Great stuff.
Annual watching of this for me (ok, wrong time of year but there you go!). Absolutely brilliant; brilliant band on fire and at their peak. Thanks Stuart for the memories, RIP old boy. Mark, Bruce and Tony, god bless you all.
I knew when I first saw them on TV that the singer and I shared something in common: Terminal Depression. At least he got his music out there first.
Unfortunately Stuart didn't treat his depression seriously
having witnessed the band for the first time at the NEC in Birmingham UK just a few weeks before (despite the sanitised venue, still one of the most magical gigs i've ever been to) i watched this with my mum on NYE '84. i agree with some of the comments that the sound on the night coming through the tv wasn't the best reflection of the band's live sound (for that you need to watch the gig exactly a year earlier in Glasgow - THE best concert footage there is imho), but the reaction of the crowd and the atmosphere in the place tells you of the magic that existed in the room when these boys plugged in. stay alive in '85.
Just a Shadow is such a special moment in music. Thank you for leaving that here for us before you left us too soon, Stuart.
Best band ever.
Wow! These Hogmanay BC concerts always come with some sort of additional magic. The experience of witnessing the complete concert versus individual songs - with the incredible energy of the band on full display - is totally capturing. Thank you for making it all possible!
Fantastic! What else can you say? No better band for new year or EVER! Thank you.
Amazing concert! I was over in Scotland when I was a kid visiting relatives and all the buzz was for a band called Big Country. This is bringing tears to my eyes. Thank you for finding this performance. What a band!
This is the only bit of film footage I know of from BC's Steeltown tour in 1984 I wish this was filmed in it's full glory ..
I'm with you, Keri. Wish they filmed the lot too, the Steeltown tour is the least documented era, video wise, of the band's career.
I was there up in the balcony, and what a show, mind you it was very cold, and frosty night
Chance !!!! All that needs be said. Epic.
I was there :)
Brilliant band. Saw them a few times back in the late 80s/early 90s
THE best band to come out the 80s! Thanks much for posting!
Those interlopers during Come Back to Me were straight out of a Bill Forsyth Comedy; wheech went the bouncer, and they were flushed away. An especially Good New Year ,rightly captures the mood through the music.
One of my favorite concerts I was barely two months old at the time this aired. Another great treat to come home from work to. Thanks as always.
watched it on the Old Grey....15 years old, brilliant band.
Wonderful
My goodness this has brought a tear and a memory as we jumping up and down beside the camera in the front row. Thanks for the upload and thank you Stevie for having a girlfriend that worked in the ticket office of the Playhouse.
FANTASTIC 🏆🏆🏆
jesus Christ man, where the hell did yi get this from, havnae seen this fir years, brilliant !!!!!
they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta be my favourite live band. Sad never get to see them live at all. Thanks for posting though! ❤️
Tony's chord-work on The Storm still drives it all these years on.
Incredible!!!
Wow , what a great video , thank you for posting it , great band with fantastic chemistry that could infect the whole audience with positive energy , one of Scotland’s best ever, it was a privilege, thank you.
Cant believe how much I've watched all your vids BC.. I dont know if it's because of lockdown and being on furlough again but I really really wish I was back in 1982-3 and being so influenced by this music that should have made me "fire mountainsides"...
Amazing!!
I saw them in a club called Dingwalls in Bristol when they had just started, to this day it was one of the best shows I've seen, a few months later The Crossing came out
UNTOUCHABLE GENIUS
I was there and it was magic
great to see this in full.. made my heart pump Goosebumps Thanks for putting this up in full mate
I equate adoration of BC to growing up. When you are young and impetuous you are drawn to superficial music about materialism and fleeting relationships; when you gain wisdom and experience the joys and failures of life, you become fully capable of beginning to grasp the folk substance, social justice equity messaging and timeless perfection of their work.
Incredible band 🙌🎸🎶
The storm visuals are great!
Wow! They were so great!👍👍👍👍
Awesome great find
Brucie at the end
Gie me time to get ma breerh back
Again another luck of a 1000 stars thank you
I actually had tickets for this but I couldn't make it, I had seen them at the Glasgow Apollo just before Christmas and they were, as always, fucking amazing, looking forward to having a few beers and watching this at the weekend.
Thanks for posting, your efforts are much appreciated.
Astonishing find mate!!!
