Billy Bragg - keep on changing people's perspectives! I'm glad that there are still musicians who keep this idea alive for a new generation. People like Stormzy (not my style, but then I'm not young 😃) and I'm sure more that I've never heard of!
Two of my favourite Clash Songs, rarely played but a proper celebration of The Clash's genius! I know Police & Thieves is a cover but this is a great version. Both are covers... Hurrah Tarrah!
@Sam Garrett of course they wouldn't - it's a cuddly middle class festival similar to Glastonbury hence they turn a blind eye to recreational drug use - of course when it comes to the Nottinghill carnival there is a different approach to drug use !
Fine" police on my back" The Equals, "police and thieves" Junior Murvin , but I won't accept Julia Ward Howe battle hymn of the republic English Civil war is definatevly Strummer/Jones. '
can't understand why that label is negative. As an unemployed ill educated working class lad champagne socialism is a right. It's capitalism that elevates champagne to a level of desire.Socialism and equality would reduce champagne to being no more than fizzy wine for the people. We should all be champagne socialists.... the world would be a better place....
People who say Champagne Socialist are just jealous. If I came into money, I would probably drink Champagne, but my politics would still be Socialist. Doesn't make me a bad person.
@@revol148 1. You're making an inaccurate assumption about me, as I'm in full time work. 2. You have no idea just how little people get on UC, you probably eat up the stories in rags like the Sun or Daily Mail which tell stories of extreme outliers and assume that's the case for all people on UC. Having been on it in the past, I can give a detailed breakdown of exactly how tight the money is. I don't smoke and wasn't buying any alcohol at all, no tv at all, not even free view. So with circa £400 after rent (actually less) but before any bills (80 gone immediately for gas and electric, another 30 for internet- needed for job searching, 15 for a pay as you go phone top up) Now down to £275. Bus ticket for a month (less than petrol + insurance, needed for going to interviews) That leaves less than 200 a month for food, clothes, toiletries- living basics. Even all this was a rounded up amount. Before taking my full time job I was doing part time work on a 0 hours contract. In either case because of how UC is reduced the maximum I had a month was 850 before rent. Now explain from there just where someone is supposed to save the money to move to another city for work. I'll wait. I've just given you a full breakdown, with the extent of "splashing out" being a non league football match every couple of months, where the ticket is £5. You have absolutely no idea of the realities of people who need benefits but you make assumptions about them with little to no basis in reality.
Danke. Für Billy❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂❤Danke.fürs Senden

Police on my back is a cover too. By Eddie Grant.
Clash covers became Clash songs: it always happens with such great musicians..
Saw Billy Bragg and The Levellers about 30 years ago at an anti-nazi festival in London and they played these songs 🍺🍻

Are you sure this was 2004?
2 tunes by the clash , that were not even the clash tunes - strange
Odd to pick covers for a tribute… Good listen, though ✊
Love it - but none of these songs were written by The Clash. Not even English Civil War.

@@revol148 easy to tell someone to move, but if they're unemployed then they won't have the money spare to move
