“The reliable drunk” This is when Kukuri became best girl. She traveled in a typhoon. Was the first person to arrive. For a random girl that she met in a drunken stupor. Because she knew what it would mean to Bocchi
32:15 that’s how social anxiety is though, she’s not an introvert; she just is afraid of people. i got over my social anxiety a long time ago by this point, but that’s not to say i’m not lacking social skills. but while i did build that wall around myself i dreamed of breaking out and defining myself in some way. as for myself when i had severe social anxiety, all i ever wanted to be able to do is converse with people normally. and since i didn’t have a standard for that, i set a bar that’s unreasonably high. wether people follow through and achieve those big dreams or slowly understand that their ideal scenario is unrealistic is entirely up to the individual.
Bocchi The Rock is, for me, an anime for people who are already used to anime. Anime antics, the exaggerated animations made to extrapolate emotions and humour, etc, and also the cultural tropes (like maid cafes, they are a real thing in Japan and very popular, a kind of fetish really, but it's socially accepted there), and it's all really overdone in Bocchi's mind to accentuate her social disorder (what she has isn't her being a little antisocial, it's a straight mental disorder to be kept in check with a physician). Either way, there are many slice of life anime, coming of age kind of stuff that are set in a school environment which could potentially be more palatable for a first watch, since Bocchi doesn't take it's time explaining all of the tropes because it has to divide it's time with the music and character development from a musical standpoint, not from a slice of life view. In this sense, I'd actually urge you to give a little anime called BECK a try. It's a little older (early 2000's), the manga is arguably a lot better (YES, EVEN WITHOUT THE MUSIC), but you'll be in for a ride. Beck is AWESOME. And if you're ever interested to keep going, it's fun as hell to read BECK while listening to a playlist of the anime songs and music referenced in the manga/anime on the background, trust me, there's no regretting this.
37:30 /// The names of all the girls in this anime come from Asian Kung-fu Generation band members. Vocalist Masafumi Gotoh, guitarist Kensuke Kita, bassist Takahiro Yamada, and drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi.
37:09 actually, there’s an all female Japanese rock band called BAND-MAID. And they’re my favorite band in the world 😊 There’s also a reference to BAND-MAID’s MV “DOMINATION” in Bocchi The Rock manga. You really should check them out. Edit: 1:44:14 that’s not random, there’s many Maid Cafes in Japan and it’s the tradition to do the magic spell thing before eating the omurice. And as I wrote at the beginning, playing rock dressed in a maid outfit doesn’t ruin the sound of the band. Just look at BAND-MAID. Slipknot, Ghost, Kiss and many other artists have or had different presentations for their respective bands. It’s mainly done to stand out among many other bands in the music industry. The most important thing is that the band is good.
nice try, but I think you´re wasting your time on this guy. He only understood half the story or the characters and what was really going on. He certainly lacks experience in knowing about japanese and, even more, Anime culture (although he named himself "Anime Ken" 🤪) I´m very afraid he certainly won´t understand Band-Maid, either.
Honestly, her changing guitars in the last episode is good cuz she's using a guitar she likes and not borrowed or handed down to her like her dad's Les Paul. Also the last scene in episode 12 where the room is empty and Bocchi heading out is kind of a message where she already changed even for a tiny bit from a loner who plays guitar in her room to having a band to play with.. Which was her initial goal.. Gotta love this show
You have to react to Girls Band Cry, it's similar to Bocchi The Rock, young girl meets new people and they form a band, but it's more of a mature story. It came out a few months ago, the musical elements in that show is really good, Girls Band Cry soundtrack is performed by the band "Togenashi Togeari" who also voice acts the characters in the show. It might be difficult to get access to the show as it's only available in Japan, no streaming sites picked it up unfortunately, it was such a good story too. But all their music is available on YT and Spotify, love to see your reactions on it.
Just going to note that Kita's VA is the vocalist for the IRL Kessoku Band, but she uses her "normal" voice while singing instead of being "in character".
'You're going to ruin a good band with maid outfits'. Sir, how dare you! I saw Band-Maid in Seattle they were fantastic. 100 times better than any band you've been in. Check out any of their official live videos they're fantastic musicians. They dress as Maids based on Japanese Maid Cafes.
i also started a band in school recently, i plays the rythem guitar found a bass player, lead guitar, drummer and a singer. it was fun ngl and our first performance is coming up this december in our school. Yeah, fun
wow, 12 episodes in one video. I see you were expecting something more story driven with lots of character developement. Even though Bocchi has some of it, it fits into the comedy/slice of life/cute girls doing cute things genre and people new to anime might get a bit confused/frustrated about it like you did around 1:20:00. I recommend watching "Beck". It's also about the characters forming a rock band but it goes more into the drama and story driven aspects that you might expect. Both are great shows for different reasons.
I actually forgot to point out, but you said something about a rock band with maid outfits. This made me laugh out loud cuz there's a little band called BAND-MAID, which is ACTUALLY BONKERS. Like, their music is really good, they rock hard and they even have music out for one little anime I love, it's the opening for the third season of Log Horizon, titled "Different". I encourage you to give it a listen and maybe make a video out of this, really solid song.
@@jorex4011 it was! Database was fire for the first two seasons, but Different hits just like that, differently, heheh. And this show is straight up my favorite isekai and one of my top 10 anime of all times, just hope the author stops studying economy so hard to create an entire economic system for his world that he winds up thinking commiting tax fraud is easy and doable and end up in jail lmao
A "little" band? 🤨 Band-Maid is for sure much more than just "little", they are one of the best hard and heavy rock bands out there today. I know you didn´t mean it in a bad way (at least I hope so), but made laugh really hard.
I could be wrong, but like someone else already said, uploading all episodes in 1 video might not be the best idea. I think uploading 1 episode per day would probably be more convenient for both for the channel and the audience.
It's definitely better for the channel, but how would it be better for the audience? You get everything at once, and you can choose the pace you watch it. You want to watch the entire thing at once? Great. You want to watch it in parts? Nothing stops you from stopping the video and returning to it at a later date.
I mean, based on his upload times, the UA-cam channel is clearly not his priority as he probably has other things to do. Either way, I benefits the audience as they don't have to wait for weekly uploads like most other reaction channels.
long form reactions can absolutely work. Wes & Steph have been doing it for years and they are doing just as well if not better than the reactors who upload daily.
I used to be introverted but that didnt stop me from performing live. Im more used to talking to people now but i still find it easier to play infront of a 100 people than talking to 1 stranger. I just gotta play the song and thats that but each conversation is different meaning more room for "error"
25:02 "It's harder to get a venue license than a bar license?!" I heard a little bit about this; a friend of mine lived in Japan (later the drummer of a band I was in! :D) and was into the night life a little bit, and I learned from him that, in Japan, there's a lot of stigma around dance clubs and music venues, like Nijika said in this scene. Some bad things happened in some dance clubs apparently, and that was enough to make the government come down HARD against these places, which sucks because they're an important gathering place for the youth. But society just assumed that they were places for yakuza to do bad business or for the youth to become endangered somehow, I guess. Up until as recently as 2015, it was actually illegal to dance (like, dancing in clubs - traditional o-bon festival dancing and the like was seen as OK, of course :P) in Japan. Basically, Japan had/has a "War on Dance" like we have the "war on drugs" in the US, you could say. Totally misguided and concern-trolling laws and regulation that ruined lives.
Since you talked about anime and cartoons being different, I think the big difference is that cartoons are more usually gag-focused (the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, etc), while anime has a lot more of variety, between the plot-focused stories, the character-driven stories and the gag-focused stories.
Wow watching BTR as first anime is wild! I think it is a risky option to introduce you to anime, but im glad that you liked. If you wanna react another anime related to music and bands I recomend you "Beck", its a little bit older but its still good and have a different tone than bocchi (more serious and have more stuff related to music), otherwise if you wanna watch other anime in general I recommed you to watch "Attack on titan" or "Vinland saga", this last one im sure you would like it (it is the vikings anime). Good reaction, hoping for more!
English is not my first language, but I do use English for my music theory. I play mostly jazz and gospel music, so fortunately i haven't encountered any Italian on my playing.
To answer a few questions raised throughout the first part of the video: In Japan, elementary school is six years from age 6 to 12, middle school 3 years and high school again three years from age 15 to 18. Students are allowed to work part time jobs as soon as they get into high school. These are usually minimum wage jobs at Mac Donald's, in convenience stores, etc. I'm don't think they would be allowed to work in bars, but I don't really know. This part could simply be a joke. Legal drinking age in Japan is 20. Same as driving. The post-fixes at the end of names have similar function as Ms., Mrs., etc. in English; they add social rank / distinction to the interaction. In case you noticed, bocchi says Ryo-san instead of Ryo-chan, which implies that she sees her as more adult, someone to look up to with respect, whereas the blond girl gets the generic -chan, implying more of a same age, eye to eye relationship. The main character's name is another joke, or rather pun, as she's called Hitori (one person; on her own), which is part of the word Hitori bocchi, which means alone, lonesome. There's actually a whole trope of main characters like her, like "Hitori Bocchi" (her actual ful name) from "Hitori Bocchi no xxx-seikatsu". (the xxx here is a place holder, a blank; not what you might otherwise imagine) Another similar character is the super successful Komi-san, which adds another twist in that she's super beautiful and everyone worships her as the school Madonna, but she still can't get a word out before other people until way towards the end of her story" One thing about Japanese media is the incredible amount of repetition - like, if one Story is successful, you'll immediately find a hundred copy-cats using the exact same formula. ... Back on topic, 100 yen is about 1 Euro / 1 US Dollar. The exact exchange rate goes up and down, but in general you can just drop the last two digits and get a general idea what something costs. Cutting off after episode 3, might be back later.
Bro didnt pay attention 50% wait, I'll be kind and give 25% time... Or maybe he cant keep up with the subtitles? It's a good thing that the show reinforce ideas or informations more than once I recommend pausing for a show with lot and fast dialogue like this ofc you wont get attached to the story/characters because you didnt actually pay attention to the story/dialogue. If you actually dont care about the story then just react to the songs then, their full album is really great Imagine someone telling your lyrics is soulless because they didnt actually listen half of the time or some telling your song is boring because they didnt realize the intricate suble change in chord progression or the riff or the time signature yeah Also not pointing out the band missplay on the episode 8. I hope he just cutting out the part because it's copyrighted or he'll make another video fully reacting to the songs
Only halfway through, but figured I might as well say: 100 yen is roughly 1 dollar, usually. The yen's value is real shit right now so its more like 100 yen = 70 cents, but just knocking off 2 0's is closeish enough.
The melow-core that Nizika mentioned liking in our discussion of bands in episode two is a mistranslation. Melo-core is an abbreviation for melodic hardcore. If it were a Japanese band, it would be Maximum the Hormone.
technically its longer just only one season is out, dunno if they will continue so the 12 episodes are just season 1 so isn't finished unless more seasons dont get greenlit. the manga continues way past the end of season 1. but even if we get animated fully its probably not gonna be 100s of episodes the finished show would probably be like 40ish episodes
It's not unusual for there to be a disconnect between the legal drinking age and working in an establishment that serves alcohol. I can't speak for Japan but many states in the US there generally isn't an issue unless the entire venue excludes under age people.
havent heard of this show, so thanks for bringing it to my attention even if not on purpose. watching some anime cartoon with big eyed girls isn't the usual point of interest for your demographic so it shows that you're extremely open minded as a person. I'll give this one a try, maybe I'll be back here edit: ok so after ep 1 I can see it's not my cup of tea, but it's passionately produced
Yeah, the characters don't really develop much, since the sort material is not at all like the show. The manga is made in little bits, like comic strips you used to see in newspapers, you know? Four pictures and that's it. Just like something like Garfield. The anime did a fenomenal job at creating a story based on this, but they definetely share the same DNA.
in japan you can work at 15 years old and from what i could find theres no restriction on them serving alcohol they just arent allowed to work past 10pm if they are under 18. Plus japans drinking culture they almost dont even care about underage drinking. they rarly card you unless your obviously look under age and they have vending machines that serve beer that dont verify age at all so if you were underage you could easily get it
Please, i beg you. I beg you to listen attack on titan opening, especially "Rumbling" you have to listen to its full version not the animated version because the best moments are unfortunately not in the animated version, another music from attack on titan that I recommend to you is "my War". After obviously all the others are excellent but these two are the most rock. (And for "Rumbling" we are really on metal with insane growls in the full version)
Hello, did you ever see K-On? It's also about a school band and it's one of my favourite animes adn the music is really nice. Also see the opening and ESPECIALLY the endings. The openings are from the perspective of the bubbly Yui while the endings are written by the more edgy Mio.
I usually don't like these kind of videos where all episodes together at Once I like each episode in it's own video Like what got games does Watch Vinland saga, Ragna Crimson and mob psycho 100 you'd love it 😍 Bocchi the Rock is great show It's arguably the best music anime alongside Your lie in April
@@user-tr1vdNot everyone have vacant time around for 2 hours straight but have time for multiple 15 min videos. Multiple videos will also increase exposure. For example, when searching for "bochi the rock reaction" having multiple videos will get more visibility than just 1. Also, most people would filter search results by "date uploaded", if you only upload once, you will be visible for around 1-2weeks. If you space out the releases by episode, it will grant you visibility for about 3-4 months. It will also make the income/monetization easier since views are higher. Theoretically you could have about 12x more views if you break it up. Although the revenue might be the same, having a "stable stream of views" is better than a "one-time increase"
All the places in the anime are real. There are UA-cam videos that show the real place next to the anime. They made a full song for the drunk bassist band. It's good. It's super bass heavy. You should do Chainsaw Man. It's quick. Same length as Bochi. The music is fantastic. It has a different song in the outro every episode. It has a little bit of everything. It's funny, sad, sexy, gory etc. It gets hated on a little because it uses a lot of cgi. But i don't even notice it. It's a great show. Or obviously Attack on Titan the greatest show ever with fantastic music. But it's not quick.
bocchi has severe social anxiety and she wants to get over it because she is lonely, that's why she's so 'weird', she was a shut in for most of her life and never had friends
There's is an album on Spotify and UA-cam, it has some that were never shown in the anime. Each of the 4 members has sung an ending. The locations are real (Starry goes by a different name). Shimo-Kitazawa (Starry's neighborhood) is a hub of rock and pop. The names of the first episode and last make an Asian Kung Fu Generation song. The author of the manga (the original) is a huge fan and each chapter of the manga is named after a band and a cover. There is a UA-cam series where Bocchi's VA learns to play the opening and performs it with a band. Then she goes on to perform with Kita's VA in concerts and stuff. You can find the songs performed in the talent show on UA-cam by the sound director of the anime, with a cut string and a cup sake slide. The band's name is a pun. Kessoku band means zip tie but kessoku means unite. That's why they were planning on selling signed zip ties for merch. Nijika thinks of Bocchi as a hero, and she would be right. Up 'til that point, every crisis has been solved by Bocchi. The first live, recruiting Kita, writing songs, their first audition, and their second live. Bottleneck is very rare in Japan, even most band guitarists over there don't know what it is. We kind of have country to keep it alive but nothing over there. But thanks to this manga/anime, a lot of people know now. This anime caused SO many instrument shops' sales to rise because they wanted similar guitars, but unfortunately many of them returned them back...
More on the Asian Kung-Fu Generation links - they have the same surnames as the members of kessoku band. Also the final ED song by bocchi is a cover of theirs There are lots of other references, for example the band in Episode 1 (Alexandism) is likely a reference to the band |Alexandros| Kikuri Hiroi (Drunk sensei) is a reference to Margarette Hiroi from the band 88kasyo junrei
Yup the guy missed 90% of the show I mean I can understand bro is pretty old for such a high paced brain rot anime Sad tho If he would have uploaded one episode per week we Could have atleast explained him the show Sad that bro missed 90% or the jokes and show

(the xxx here is a place holder, a blank; not what you might otherwise imagine)
Another similar character is the super successful Komi-san, which adds another twist in that she's super beautiful and everyone worships her as the school Madonna, but she still can't get a word out before other people until way towards the end of her story"
One thing about Japanese media is the incredible amount of repetition - like, if one Story is successful, you'll immediately find a hundred copy-cats using the exact same formula.
It's a good thing that the show reinforce ideas or informations more than once
I recommend pausing for a show with lot and fast dialogue like this
ofc you wont get attached to the story/characters because you didnt actually pay attention to the story/dialogue.
If you actually dont care about the story then just react to the songs then, their full album is really great
Imagine someone telling your lyrics is soulless because they didnt actually listen half of the time
or some telling your song is boring because they didnt realize the intricate suble change in chord progression or the riff or the time signature
yeah
Also not pointing out the band missplay on the episode 8. I hope he just cutting out the part because it's copyrighted or he'll make another video fully reacting to the songs
In pretty sure some of the background is literal images put through filters. Thats why the guitar shop looked so good
Only halfway through, but figured I might as well say: 100 yen is roughly 1 dollar, usually.
I'll give this one a try, maybe I'll be back here
edit:
ok so after ep 1 I can see it's not my cup of tea, but it's passionately produced
You have to watch beck mongolian chop squad
imo its one of the best music anime and its funny and so crazy how relatable it is
kita has the 1959 les paul junior dc in pelham blue 👍
1:44:20 wait till u hear about this one real life band called band maid that goes unexpectedly hard... Won't spoil their gimmick tho 😉
Plus japans drinking culture they almost dont even care about underage drinking. they rarly card you unless your obviously look under age and they have vending machines that serve beer that dont verify age at all so if you were underage you could easily get it
I also have recommendation, called girl band cry. Its kinda similar with bocchi the rock
Nice choice
I usually don't like these kind of videos where all episodes together at Once
I like each episode in it's own video
Like what got games does
Watch Vinland saga, Ragna Crimson and mob psycho 100 you'd love it 😍
Bocchi the Rock is great show
It's arguably the best music anime alongside Your lie in April
its ok to post weekly if it is ongoing, but for completed why not? its fine for me to bulk season
Img Post every Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood episode In one video lol
I'd like two or three episodes per video tho 😅
@@gacrux-ni7hw weak aura
Zombie Land SaGa is also recommended.
fav anime
I think she asks 'what's with all the english' because most Japanese people just associate roman letters with english words.
Also the final ED song by bocchi is a cover of theirs
There are lots of other references, for example the band in Episode 1 (Alexandism) is likely a reference to the band |Alexandros|
Kikuri Hiroi (Drunk sensei) is a reference to Margarette Hiroi from the band 88kasyo junrei
I would recommend vinland saga
Try "Girls Band Cry". Thanks
Yup the guy missed 90% of the show
I mean I can understand bro is pretty old for such a high paced brain rot anime
Sad tho
If he would have uploaded one episode per week we
Could have atleast explained him the show
Sad that bro missed 90% or the jokes and show
I´m 52 and this is one of my most favorite shows ever. I´m sure the problem wasn´t age, but a very minimal attention span.
I think Bocchi just equates the latin alphabet to english.
I have to highly recommend Detroit Metal City, since you play metal. It's really funny and vulgar
yep pretty good one
bocchi is just like me
