Thanks so much for joining me for all of these weekly uploads since December 2022. The goal was to improve the channels views, subscribers and revenue through December and into January, (the worst of all 12 months for revenue) and that's been a large success! Cannot thank you enough to everyone who joined my Patreon, left me tips and of course increased their watch time, likes and comments through these last 2 months. The plan now is to go back to 2 uploads per month, as I've been working everyday since late November till today the 28th of January in order to produce these weekly uploads as obviously it's a great deal of work involved. Thanks again, I hope you enjoy the video and if all goes well I'll see you in 2 weeks time for the next one, if it doesn't go well, I guess I'll see you next week lol.
I don't know if you've heard about it, but it's an anime Ya Boy Kongming! It's super good and I think you'd love the art, music and comedy! Keep up the good work! 👍❤️
Blimey, that would scare anyone, what skill, i saw a post and the VA of bocci was one of the favourite voice actors of '22 just for the 1 character she voiced. I mean she has talent
The real brilliance of this show is when you realize (right after their live performance at Starry for me) that in every other version of this anime Nijika is the protagonist and Bocchi is the weird side character there for comic relief. Dead mother. Absent father. Older sister giving up on her rock star dreams. And yet, we get a comedy about an extreme introvert with crippling anxiety slowly (glacially) coming out of her shell. It's like we're getting the spinoff before the actual anime.
When Bocchi first met Nijika, try and observe the setting. Bocchi and Nijika's VAs talked about how the playground and the perimeter around the swing were representative of Bocchi's state of mind. The direction of that meet-up symbolized how someone, Nijika, finally managed to break through Bocchi's barriers, albeit suddenly. They also talked about another shot where they made sure the shade was covering the entire playground to drive the point home even more.
Yeah the low angle shot makes the foot tall barrier appear chest high on on bocchi. Nijika rushes in, steps over the barrier and literally drags bocchi from a shadow into the sunlight. Episode one starts in monochrome gray but episode twelve ends in sunlight. Bocchi life gets more colorful as she grows. Amazing.
At 34:32, I'm a (former) musician and definitely picked up on the ensemble tearing - how there was no clear source of tempo, some of them were either speeding up or slowing down, and how their nerves were affecting their playing. It was pretty subtle, and props to everyone involved in the animation and the sound for making such a realistic bad performance.
Yup, a realistic bad performance from people that are actually good. A music anime I love "Kono Oto Tomare" which is about the Koto has some good "realistic bad performances" too.
Honestly, I would call Bocchi my anime of the year for 2022. I really hope it gets a S2 (& more). Not only is it relatable af, you can really feel the passion put into the adaptation in everything - from the animation, the music, the VA performances, and the gags (including the drastic art-style changes). It's just too good!
There's even a bocchi the radio out there, a dedicated site for bocchi and bocchi selling 16k copies of blu ray so yeah, for sure there will be a second season. Just need to wait for more material from the manga and they are good to go.
Too many people really do sleep on this serie, it's ranked #12 anime of season 2022, but it's should be in the top-10 easily with the many creative ideas and thoughts that where put in the anime version, compared to the manga version
@@hatstandmaster2743 for me Bocchi was WAY higher than chainsaw man. Don't get me wrong, chainsaw man is still pretty good, but Bocchi is one of the best shows I've ever seen
A few things regarding the visuals of this anime: - the live performances and every instance of any of the girls playing an instrument is done fully in 2D animation, most of the time with the help of CGI models to help - most of the backgrounds are actually real life photos of the locations used in the anime but composited to integrate better with the 2D animation! With that out of the way, amazing video!!!
@@Speykious the musicians where using motion tracking suits to be put into the 3d models and then be able to be placed into a 3d environment to place the cameras whenever the scene director wanted... And then they rotoscoped the cgi models of the girls directly from the 3d software...
18:37 - This sound is, believe it or not, 100% human! I still cant believe the range that Bocchi's VA has and how and from where did she pull up this fucking voice!? 19:56 Ryo straight up just described this anime. 24:10 This scene is the one that made me laugh the most out of any joke in anime in 2022. The switch from her puking to just a video montage of a real life dams in Japan was beyond hilarious to me, easily the greatest puking joke ever! And it went on for a good 30sec or so which somehow made it even more funny for me! 29:39 Holy Shit! Those cars on the right are fucking real, arent they!? They blend so fucking well that I never really noticed until now! 30:54 & 36:43 anime Staff for BtR are true madlads! They spent god knows how much time making these real life props just for a joke that appears for 5 sec or so! This is some next level dedication! 44:11 another example of the Staff literally going outside to film this short 10sec scene just beacause...! True Legends!
Of all the great moments in this show, the one that always kills me the most is the beach bros scene. Just the way they are chasing them whilst doing some insane spinning motion.
My eyes could barely handle all the art styles shoved into them from this one anime. Mob Psycho changed into a few consistently but Bocchi was like, "Hold my beer." And just tried to see how many they could have in one anime. I am still impressed.
Another small little thing, Kita getting better at guitar is not just her giving bocchi some time when the string came of, her technique improved too. She used to move her whole arm in the first concert and audition, and by then she had minimised her movements . Kita is a good student and Bocchi is a good teacher:D
39:22 Nijika asked if they could use this as a sound for a song. The onomatopoeia for that sound in japanese is “kara kara”. The anime staff then took that and named the second ED after it, sang by Ryo’s VA. Also to add: The live houses are based on real live houses in Japan which is why they look so detailed and real.
A note about the animation for them playing, from what I've learned it was done with a combination of motion capture of real musicians playing the real music, turned into 3d models, then hand drawn over the models. That's why it's so buttrty smooth and musically accurate at the same time!
The best music win in this anime is that when they are not in sync with each other, you can actually HEAR it, they changed the mix to make it uncomfortable to hear and it’s amazing. Most animes would put the normal sound track on and make the characters say over and over that something’s wrong, which bocchi also did but the music backs it up perfectly Edit: also kessoku band exists as an artist on Spotify and Apple Music, they got a few more songs that were not featured in the anime. All bangers if you ask me
What was the budget for this anime? It's insanely well made in every aspect! Writing, acting, music, artwork, animation, editing, just everything is incredible! Best New anime of 2022
It must be average, and quite possibly on the low side. If you rewatch it several times and looking at the scenes with fine comb hawk eyes, you will notice some cost saving methods, used many times. Most notable in ep10, sick hack concert, where there are stills, saving the budget. But all those methods are seamlessly used and we won't notice until we look for it. It also fit narrative. It is also not a very popular manga in the first place, so it won't get that much budget. They already spend lots to produce the music too. I am sure CSM got lot more budget than Bocchi.
3:07 It's a damn shame the camera work to just before this scene wasn't mentioned. About how Bocchi was in the shade, the camera angle to Nijika skipping towards her and jumping over the fence that symbolized Bocchi's metaphorical walls. That alone was worth a +10 for visual storytelling.
First of all.... HELL FUCKING YEAH! BOCCHI THE ROCK VIDEO!!! Second: Big thank you to those who recommended and supported this show on Patreon, you are all true GIGA CHADS! As for BtR... This show truly came out of nowhere for me and completely stole my heart! Its without a doubt my AOTY and one of my Top 10 favorites. Bocchi might be the most relateble character I've seen in years. The way this story and Bocchi as a character portray social anxiety is incredibly realistic and the lenghts that Clover Works went through to show it must be praised! The absurdety of Bocchii's thoughts are not only hilarious but also relatable to many people, not in the literal way of course but its easy to relate to it on some level(even if its only something like 10%). Music is another thing that contributed greatly to this show being as amazing as it is. So many great sounding original songs for a fictional anime band really helps in multitude of ways - mainly making the bend more realistic wih them creating their own songs, having another source of advertisement and even income(Kessoku Band album is selling like crazy!). I could talk about this anime for hours but then this comment would be too fucking long. I'll make another one with video time stamp of just some things that I really loved or just noticed while wtching this video. Also! like, share & subscribe people! Join patreon too, dont just drop comments like "do X/Y/Z anime", become the part of creating this amazing content!
While it most definitely exceeded any expectations, I always wonder why people say this one "Came out of nowhere". I first read the synopsis for Bocchi about a year ago, and it instantly went to the top of my watch list, straight up there with Chainsaw Man. Without looking at the source material mind you. When Anime really leans into the music side, you know the soundtrack will be a banger. Two of my top 3 this year were heavily music themed (Ya Boy Kongming being the other), and this time it was even about my genre of music. And the contradiction of an extreme introvert dreaming of Rock Stardom just spelled comedy. And after Episode 1, I was confident that unless they actually try really hard to screw it up, Bocchi would be one of my favorites of the year, and it only got better and better. I agree with all the points you made, but I seriously wonder why nobody seemed to have their eye on this show when I was sitting here for months waiting for it to finally air. But the fact that even my expectations were blown out of the water just made that wait so worth it.
@@Saeda88 Probably because of the shows like Chainsaw man, Mob Psycho 100 season 3, Bleach TYBW etc. Compared to them Bocchi is just an anime adaptation of some 4-koma manga. I heard about it only after the Fall season started and episode 1 aired. OG source is simply not big and well known enough to compete with big shounen title, at least not until anime starts airing and proves its worth.
My favourite small thing about the show is that all of the music equipment is legit. All of the instruments are real, same with the amps, microphones, pedals, all of it. I geeked out so much in the last episode because the bass Ryo tries is a Musicman Stingray which is literally designed for slap bass, and of course she immediately starts playing it that way. It was just such a nice attention to detail for a scene that did not matter whatsoever. I also like that whenever they are playing live they don't use the studio recordings of the music. It's all raw and sounds like it's actually being played live on stage.
I was sooo happy when this anime blew up. Aoyama Yoshino deserves all the applause as Bocchi's VA, I put this right up there with Kumoko (in So I'm a Spider) in triumphantly carrying the anime. Add in the visualizations of Bocchi's headspace and enjoyable music and it was up there as best of the season.
I enjoyed this anime and the music within it so much I bought the album on iTunes. Even if I didn't know what it was attached to, it's a really good album. And I really want an S2 ASAP.
IVE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! LETS GO BOCCHI!!!! 34:33 they’ve done this for this song and another in the show, but they’ve recorded multiple versions to use. so in this scene, they recorded a version where they were offbeat/singing incorrectly. its such amazing attention to detail. and in the last song where bocchi uses a glass bottle as a slider, that’s an entirely different version from how the actual song sounds. ALSO, FUN FACT, KESSOKU BAND HAS A CAMEO IN ANOTHER ANIME WHERE THEYRE PERFORMING AT A SCHOOL FESTIVAL! another another thing, the musical segments were rotoscoped.
Fun fact: the reason you such highly detailed backgrounds with insanely realistic text is because they used pictures from actual locations and replicated them 1:1(except name changes because copyright). There's definitely videos comparing the backgrounds in bocchi to the actual locations. Its mind-blowing the amount of detail they had
@48:24 basically using the jar as a glass slide, normally when you press down on the strings they hit the frets (the metal lines running down the neck of the guitar) which shortens the string and changes the tone, using a slide, it basically became a fret and can change the string length that is vibrating, but because its not fixed like a fret it can create an infinite variable of the length (in this case because she could no longer tune the string it gave her basically a tunable fret as the position could be changed to adjust the sound). it also gives a guitar a different sound as well, sorta see them more on lap steel guitars, more of a sound used in country music.
This show was the stand out for the year for me. The humor, the growth, the music. It's soo much more that moe blobs. It's not cute girls doing cute things, it's music girls doing music things.
Just so you know, the music scenes aren't CGI. They're actually rotoscoped of people actually performing so they can get the best portrayal of the band performing
Technically, it's CGI models with rotoscoped motions attached, that were then drawn over in traditional 2D art for certain features (like the face, for example).
23:40 Actually, its all animated, they did motion tracking and capture for every major scene with instruments then animated them overtop as a heavy reference.
This is anime of the year league for me and I was waiting for you to cover it. Fun fact, Bocchi using the glass to play is referencing slide guitar technique. It's mostly used in blues, but it gives the player added pitch control which Bocchi used to compensate for the broken string.
48:22 that's an improvised slide guitar effect, pretty hard to do it on the fly due to the cords friction with the glass, tin or whatever you are using at that moment. And it was amazing to George Harrison or David Gilmour's level.
Man the fact in this bocchi develops a lot but yet she never looks up during the performance, it's so realistic to her anxiety but she still plays. Plus there is almost enough wins to have 1 per minute including the OPs and EDs. Now that's sometimes
34:39 So having played music with a large group of people before, I was in orchestra for a good part of my school life, during the start of their performance I could hear that they band wasn't together. Bocchi was playing in time but Nijika was slow and some of the parts sounded a bit off. It's honestly amazing detail that they didn't just say "Oh no the band isn't together" but actually emulated it in the music. It's very subtle and you wouldn't notice it, but the music will feel a bit off.
So some comments first, about the performances, the way they did it in the show was, they rotoscoped the performers and after they traced over it, in a way that leads to a more natural blend in and movement, they had the key art and animation frames posted in twitter showing that, plus interviews where they go in detail about the production, the performers also were asked to watch and make it feel as natural and real as possible, with indications like for example nijika keeping the rhythm with her legs, ryo and nijika silent comunication, ryo also doing moves typical of an actual bass player, kita also with the way she acts, at first, in ep 5 and 8, with the nerves, she looks to her guitar often to check her not messing up, and in "That Band" performance, she keeps looking at hitori to keep the rhythm, since in the performance, its hitori who is leading and keeping the rhythm up, second, about ep 8 first performance, the ways the song bombed, is not as simple as it looks at first, but its noticeable enough, everyone is off tempo, nijika who is at drums is setting an irregular beat and ryo cant keep up, kita who is more inexperienced tries to catch up and slow down to match and her voice you can feel the nerves in how it breaks up compared to the audition, and hitori is also off rhythm due to the mess up of the rest, she is more stable but equally feels off third, a note about, you can actually take off Ryo and Hiroi performances from ep 6 and 8 and compare them and see how much skill Hiroi has, Ryo bass is how teh song is meant to be, Hiroi bass for "that band" in the street live, is reacting as bocchi Hitori plays, the levels of detail are ginormous fourht, sad you didnt mention some of the references, like ep 3 hallway scene being a ref to FLCL, or some others fifht, great vid, i loved this anime so much, its without joking what i kinda wanted to see in anime since a long time ago, this level of variety, focus, detail and passion behind, it rekindled a flame that ive not felt since i watched FMAB or TTGL over 10+ years ago PS. should added a win in how, every ED song, the 4 songs, each were sung by each band member VA, as a fun note, the name of the 2nd one, Karakara is a pun in the SFX that was done in the scene where Ryo is joked about having her head empty and the sound of her rattling brain could be made into a song, the madlads actually made it a reality
Some extra details, the technique Hitori used in ep 12 in her solo section, is called slide guitar or Bottleneck for the japanese, as other details, plenty of the characters names are references to real band members, Kessoku band for example, being inspired and named based on the band Asian Kung Fu Generation, Hiroi Kikuri and her band are based and named after Margaret Hiroi from 88Kasyo junrei, the anime also has tons, and TONS of references to multiple bands, from Kana-boom, Alexandros, Hige dandism, etc, they are around in posters or some distortions of names, the instruments all are from actual brands and you can look them up, almost every place or location is an actual real place, there is an actual live venue that inspired Starry, as well as the stores and other places, which brings me to next detail, they used actual real life images and edited so they blend in, they also left some images as is, like ep 9, the takosens were just scanned and left as is, or Ryo choice of foods in ep 7 some other references, in ep 11, the 3D section, is a reference to undertale trailer, the school nursery when hitori is taken there, its both a Neon Genesis Evangelion reference followed by a MGS V reference
I've been at work all day and been counting down the hours till I get to watch this I can't wait!!! Thank you so much for doing Bocchi the Rock! I fucking loved absolutely everything about this show and I can't wait for you to tell me all the other things I missed but will love also!
This is my anime of the year 2022! Bocchi is the best! Ryo is a goddess of drip! As a person with autism, social anxiety, general anxiety, depression, stuttering, a bit of self loathing and other things of the sort i can really relate to Bocchi (also this show is really accurate to how some panic attacks and "episodes" feel)! Also Some others on other videos pointed out the the first song of episode 8 was slightly out of sync with each other and there were some voice cracks in Kita's voice but MAN did Bocchi SHREAD!!!!!
Y'know, I only just noticed it today, but 17:27 in Bocchi's mental filing system, Outer Space has a hilariously large box compared to the boxes surrounding it, which I think is a bit of subtle setup for _why_ Bocchi is randomly watching a video about black holes later in the series. It's also likely why the band's songs _Guitar, Loneliness and Blue Planet_ and _If I could be a constellation_ are focused on "singing to the void/stars" and, well, being a _constellation._
Kinda wished you noticed, and therefore, Wined that during the first song of episode 8, there were mistakes, I'm pretty sure, in the playing like Kita's singing being off, nervous, and not as energetic and the drums and guitars sometimes being out of sync (unless I imagined it, I hope not). You also didn't Win the DBZ Yamcha death pose in episode 9 but did Win the DBZ Super Saiyan reference in 12 which was a little sad, but whatever, great video!
It's crazy that in a season with both Chainsaw Man and Mob Psycho 100, Bocchi the Rock is somehow just as good, if not better, in terms of animation and arguably the best of all 2022. Not to mention that as a former musician (saxophonist), the importance of being in sync with your fellow bandmembers is absolutely NOT understated here. I actually was in a similar situation to Bocchi, where my small private middle school didn't have a band but I really wanted to learn, so I got private sax lessons, but because I hadn't played with other people before, when I joined my much larger high school band, I was the worst sax player because I didn't have experience blending with the rest of my section for a unified sound or keeping in time with everyone else. Fortunately I did manage to get over that and find my niche, but that is very much a real thing that musicians struggle with, and it's not something I see reflected in anime very often (though I will freely admit that I don't watch a lot of anime about music). Moments like that or your instrument suddenly being out of tune and having to adjust on the fly are somehow more relatable to me than the social anxiety bits already were.
Anime of the Year, right there. It does so much with the manga, filling in so many scenes. You can feel that the people who made this had fun doing it. The many anime references are great too. Even though I enjoyed a lot of anime last year, this is the one I rewatched after it finished airing to enjoy it again.
worth mentioning, each of the band members shares a family name with a member of famous J-rock band Asian Kung-fu Generation (who you may know from a bunch of anime openings, notably Erased, Tatami Galaxy, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto) . and the last ED is a cover of one of their songs. and that cover is sung by Bocchi's voice actress.
This show is amazing, but the funnies tmoment to me was in episode 1 when she played death metal over the loud speaker in her classroom in middle school. XD
Regarding the first song of their first live, it's very hard to get a convincingly amateur performance out of professional musicians and voice actors, so anime directors generally just don't try to make their narratively-supposed-to-be-bad musical performances to actually suck.
I am kind of surprised you didnt give the Bocchi getting yamcha'd a win there, I found that scene so funny when it happed, and i am curious as to what your reaction might've been xD
On the 34:33 min mark you ask what's wrong with the presentation. Is the timing. It felt rushed with no time for vocals to catch a break. They nailed that live tempo mishap that often happens to live performances
Bocchi is two seasons back at time of this post. And it still is head and shoulders above the mass of recent anime. Bocchi & her friends will be remembered.
One thing about Bocchi that I only figured out now watching your video is that there are many parallels to Slash with her. Like Bocchi, Slash originally had a massive fear of people, which lead to his iconic hair and top hat, because it concealed the audience from his view. And now Slash is, well, Slash. One of the greatest guitarists in the world. Just like Bocchi slowly started to conquer her introversion.
Bonus win: the Kessoku Band album not only has every song performed by the band in the anime (sadly no sick hack or band from episode 2), but a couple original songs too all of equal quality.
A few dozen wins for every time they actually make the characters react to what’s going on, like the mother nearly reaching out when bocchi scrambles to her sister, and the lack of reaction when the little sister talks to her friends about when bocchi was possessed
Rather than the "awkwardness" and "anxiety" and whatnot, I found that the "lack of control" was what really sold the relatability of having social phobias. The sense of how one bad move could lead to a domino effect that snowballs out of control. And the wild, memey, "she just like me fr fr" moments of Bocchi are contrasted with the actual realistic moments like object continuity (the sign), hairdo permanence (the wigs & caps), and so on. It almost makes me expect to see an episode where they bring the alcoholic bassist to a hospital. It really burrows its way deep into your psyche and connecting things in it. Like if your brain was a stomach, and memories were food that slowly got digested / forgotten, then those moments were a tapeworm gorging itself on those leftovers and causing extreme abdominal pain (this metaphor got away from me). Point is: it hits you, and sticks with you. It's done comedically with how making a weird face at a customer leads to Bocchi getting executed. And depressingly with her living with her parents.
24:08 could this be a reference to School Days and the nice boat meme in the anime world? 27:57 this is something done throughout the whole anime, but wrapping the cable around the strap is a very small detail that is legitimately amazing to see as a musician (its so that the cable isnt yoinked out if its stepped on)
The fact that they actively acknowledge bocchis facial freakouts, even trying to fix them with like a chisel, or when she turns to ash, is somehow hilarious to me
Finallyyyyy, I discovered your channel pretty recently and I'm now semi-binging trough all the shows i know, nice work my dude. Anywho, Oregairu season 2 and 3 when?
20 average wins per episode is great and I want to give it a win personally for actually releasing all of these songs on spotify under "結束 バンド" which is "Kessoku bando". Great detail outside the anime
Like most of the other Cloverworks anime such a Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Sempai (and A1 Pictures too for Too Many Losing Heroines), Bocchi used real locations for their backgrounds, repainted somehow to make it match with the anime and sometimes redoing brand names they don't have the right to use. For example, there is an episode of the UA-cam series Aniplex created to support Bocchi, "Road to Guitar Hero," where the voice actress for Bocchi learns how to play a guitar. They get her a guitar, but they didn't get her the amp and other equipment, so Yoshino Aoyama had to go to a music store to pick those up. She goes to the same music store as Bocchi did in episode 12. You can tell. It looks exactly like the backgrounds.
My dude this show is so detailed, so well produced, you need to watch it again and record this exact video to catch all the wins you missed the first go.
My youth Pastor was a band member, and he told me before. “It sucks being in a band and looking at the crowd, because there’s always so many people looking disinterested at the work you’re putting into a performance” Hence why I now make it my job to enjoy when someone is performing. I hear my fellow friends critiquing and nitpicking at the job, yet it doesn’t sound horrible to me. It’s really sad, but that’s honestly how performances go.
Funny how you either missed the Kira Bites Za Dust reference, or did not enjoy it enough to give it a win, and one the moments that always get me is the scene in the last ep, when Nijika says that she probably should buy a guitar and they imagine her using guitars to play drums, it always gets me
I'm so happy I watched Bocchi The Rock a few weeks ago, it's so relatable and Hitori is so much like me (if only I could change art styles like she can), I'm trying to get my mom to watch it even though she doesn't like anime, but I think it would give her a better explanation as to how much of a shut in I am but also wanting to be noticed ( cus I couldn't possibly put it into words) and how much of a struggle it is for some people. It's also just such a fun and cute show to watch, it may not be for everyone but for those who like cute slice of life and Music anime or characters they can relate so much to, I totally recommend Bocchi The Rock. also I bought the Kessoku Band album on iTunes and it freaking rocks, it's so good.
I know its smart for you to plug recent videos but genuinely thank you for taking me about your Bakemonogatari vid I was going to watch it and completely forgot!
I believe the glass thing was using a slide, which is one way to stall for time with a broken string (which I only know because it was discussed after the finale)
A lot of anime references in bocchi the rock. For the scene where bocchi's string broke, the song writer for bocchi the rock actually cuts his own guitar string as well, used a glass as a slide and played the same exact tune that bocchi played in another youtube video
I'll say I'm autistic (Asperger's) with ADHD and this is the first anime character that not only have I 100% identified with but can relate a real life experience with everything she goes through. It's also the funniest anime I've seen in years!!!! XD
Thanks again, I hope you enjoy the video and if all goes well I'll see you in 2 weeks time for the next one, if it doesn't go well, I guess I'll see you next week lol.
glad to see it looks like this is performing well, the bocchi community is strong in numbers we got you o7
I don't know if you've heard about it, but it's an anime Ya Boy Kongming! It's super good and I think you'd love the art, music and comedy! Keep up the good work! 👍❤️
awesome work, man! thoroughly enjoyed these weekly video's.
take a rest, and talentless nana next?
Will you do "Everything wrong with: Bocchi The Rock"?
HEEEEY, YOU’RE BACK!
I kid, I just found this channel and subbed.
So, fun fact about Bocchi "glitching out" at 18:35, the sound she's making is not modified; that's just her VA, all on her own. Talent.
If I remember correctly, it scared the director because he didn’t realize a sound like that could come out of a human.
@@warmrubysapphire yeah, if he knew that that would have been an easy 2 wins right there
Blimey, that would scare anyone, what skill, i saw a post and the VA of bocci was one of the favourite voice actors of '22 just for the 1 character she voiced. I mean she has talent
That was a genuinely terrifying scene to watch. I know they didn't go fully in that direction, but that really gives the vibe of a panic attack.
Thats terrifying. I wonder how she was able to give out that blood curling scream
i dont think you noticed.. but ED1 sung by kita, ED2 sung by ryo, ED3 sung by nijika and ED4 sung by bocchi:)
The real brilliance of this show is when you realize (right after their live performance at Starry for me) that in every other version of this anime Nijika is the protagonist and Bocchi is the weird side character there for comic relief.
Absolutely the Anime of the Year so far, I really want a season 2
bocchi the rock first production talk held in spring 2019, so expect 3 or more years to S2
There's even a bocchi the radio out there, a dedicated site for bocchi and bocchi selling 16k copies of blu ray so yeah, for sure there will be a second season. Just need to wait for more material from the manga and they are good to go.
@@tooox8604 there's more than enough material from the manga, anime ended at chapter 21 and there's currently about 60 chapters out
For now not enough content for a S2 unfortunaly
I've never clicked on a notification faster in my life
Too many people really do sleep on this serie, it's ranked #12 anime of season 2022, but it's should be in the top-10 easily with the many creative ideas and thoughts that where put in the anime version, compared to the manga version
For fuckin real.
This show needs to get into the mainstream. I put it almost as high as Chainsaw Man, no cap.
@@hatstandmaster2743 for me Bocchi was WAY higher than chainsaw man. Don't get me wrong, chainsaw man is still pretty good, but Bocchi is one of the best shows I've ever seen
@@orangsucc you got a good eye my man 🎸🎸🎸
A few things regarding the visuals of this anime:
- the live performances and every instance of any of the girls playing an instrument is done fully in 2D animation, most of the time with the help of CGI models to help
- most of the backgrounds are actually real life photos of the locations used in the anime but composited to integrate better with the 2D animation!
With that out of the way, amazing video!!!
Actually, the live performances use rotoscoping. Musicians do an actual live performance, they capture it on camera and they animate on top of that.
@@Speykious the musicians where using motion tracking suits to be put into the 3d models and then be able to be placed into a 3d environment to place the cameras whenever the scene director wanted... And then they rotoscoped the cgi models of the girls directly from the 3d software...
@@uiriamuu oh! Now that's interesting, I thought they kinda "traced" over actual filmed footage
The animators were given free rein by the directors to do whatever they wanted creatively to make the anime shine.
I really like that all the visual jokes are actually happening. Like you said, most anime would just do the joke and move on like it never happened.
Of all the great moments in this show, the one that always kills me the most is the beach bros scene. Just the way they are chasing them whilst doing some insane spinning motion.
Your comment literally made me chuckle just remembering it
one of my favourites haha loved that so much
I figured that part was a Durarara referance
Bocchi literally DETONATED.
Kita is a good student and Bocchi is a good teacher:D
i knowwwww, i was laughing my ass off so much when i saw Kita just "Kurt Cobain"-ing her way with the strumming lol
Most animes would put the normal sound track on and make the characters say over and over that something’s wrong, which bocchi also did but the music backs it up perfectly
Edit: also kessoku band exists as an artist on Spotify and Apple Music, they got a few more songs that were not featured in the anime.
@@prajnadeva In that case, they must have Deadpool'd the shit outta this, making every yen count
@@farmaceut8083 Is it weird that I just check MAL to see what's a bit further down the line?
@@Saeda88 Sorry, I dont understand what you mean. Are you talking about manga content?
we did it o7
ALSO, FUN FACT, KESSOKU BAND HAS A CAMEO IN ANOTHER ANIME WHERE THEYRE PERFORMING AT A SCHOOL FESTIVAL!
another another thing, the musical segments were rotoscoped.
which anime did they appears in?
@@Laevatei1nn its called slow loop
OMG YES YES YESSS thank you for covering this amazing show!! I can’t wait to watch this when I get home!!!
Have fun!
@@AnimeWins ah youve done it again! amazing video!
@@SuperiorPosterior I've heard that too, but I've heard what I said more common. Either way, it's not CGI and all 2D which is just awesome
My anime of the year hell yeah !! Never been so happy to see a video
20:40 i watched that part of repeat for at least... Well over 20 times, glad you included it in your video
Did not expect a wins for this but super excited, this series is great!
Hell yeah i love this anime finally that you covered it
Awesome as always bro!
For me the whole Show was a suprise win. Crazy how IT was one of My favorites this year. And the year really was crazy
I honestly love bocchi the rock its probaly one of my favourite animes of all time ty for giving it alot of wins
So some comments
first, about the performances, the way they did it in the show was, they rotoscoped the performers and after they traced over it, in a way that leads to a more natural blend in and movement, they had the key art and animation frames posted in twitter showing that, plus interviews where they go in detail about the production, the performers also were asked to watch and make it feel as natural and real as possible, with indications like for example nijika keeping the rhythm with her legs, ryo and nijika silent comunication, ryo also doing moves typical of an actual bass player, kita also with the way she acts, at first, in ep 5 and 8, with the nerves, she looks to her guitar often to check her not messing up, and in "That Band" performance, she keeps looking at hitori to keep the rhythm, since in the performance, its hitori who is leading and keeping the rhythm up,
second, about ep 8 first performance, the ways the song bombed, is not as simple as it looks at first, but its noticeable enough, everyone is off tempo, nijika who is at drums is setting an irregular beat and ryo cant keep up, kita who is more inexperienced tries to catch up and slow down to match and her voice you can feel the nerves in how it breaks up compared to the audition, and hitori is also off rhythm due to the mess up of the rest, she is more stable but equally feels off
third, a note about, you can actually take off Ryo and Hiroi performances from ep 6 and 8 and compare them and see how much skill Hiroi has, Ryo bass is how teh song is meant to be, Hiroi bass for "that band" in the street live, is reacting as bocchi Hitori plays, the levels of detail are ginormous
fourht, sad you didnt mention some of the references, like ep 3 hallway scene being a ref to FLCL, or some others
fifht, great vid, i loved this anime so much, its without joking what i kinda wanted to see in anime since a long time ago, this level of variety, focus, detail and passion behind, it rekindled a flame that ive not felt since i watched FMAB or TTGL over 10+ years ago
PS. should added a win in how, every ED song, the 4 songs, each were sung by each band member VA, as a fun note, the name of the 2nd one, Karakara is a pun in the SFX that was done in the scene where Ryo is joked about having her head empty and the sound of her rattling brain could be made into a song, the madlads actually made it a reality
Some extra details, the technique Hitori used in ep 12 in her solo section, is called slide guitar or Bottleneck for the japanese, as other details, plenty of the characters names are references to real band members, Kessoku band for example, being inspired and named based on the band Asian Kung Fu Generation, Hiroi Kikuri and her band are based and named after Margaret Hiroi from 88Kasyo junrei, the anime also has tons, and TONS of references to multiple bands, from Kana-boom, Alexandros, Hige dandism, etc, they are around in posters or some distortions of names, the instruments all are from actual brands and you can look them up, almost every place or location is an actual real place, there is an actual live venue that inspired Starry, as well as the stores and other places, which brings me to next detail, they used actual real life images and edited so they blend in, they also left some images as is, like ep 9, the takosens were just scanned and left as is, or Ryo choice of foods in ep 7
some other references, in ep 11, the 3D section, is a reference to undertale trailer, the school nursery when hitori is taken there, its both a Neon Genesis Evangelion reference followed by a MGS V reference
I loved that they at the end of episode 8 literally did the "Roll Credits" after the name of the anime was said.😊
I've been at work all day and been counting down the hours till I get to watch this I can't wait!!!
Looked like an average of 20 wins per episode or one thing that impressed you nearly every minute of the show. Tough to beat that!
I just noticed that at 45:42 the violin is posing like Killer Queen from Jojo's lol
The fake credits bit is what sold me on the show.
My top 5 Anime of all time. It just came out of nowhere and destroyed my heart and left like nothing happened
I'd give a win for the fact that it's Bocchi's VA singing the last ed. Would be really cool if Bocchi builds enough courage to sing one day.
This channel is the gift that keeps on giving 🔥
Solid show for the wins! 2023 lineup starting real strong for this channel
Anime of the Year, right there. It does so much with the manga, filling in so many scenes. You can feel that the people who made this had fun doing it. The many anime references are great too. Even though I enjoyed a lot of anime last year, this is the one I rewatched after it finished airing to enjoy it again.
Fun fact: the live is 100% hand drawn. They used movement capture, so it looked extremely smooth.
Honestly one of my favourite animes ever tbh
worth mentioning, each of the band members shares a family name with a member of famous J-rock band Asian Kung-fu Generation (who you may know from a bunch of anime openings, notably Erased, Tatami Galaxy, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto) . and the last ED is a cover of one of their songs. and that cover is sung by Bocchi's voice actress.
Bonus points for their dog being named after JIMI HENdrix
FINALLY HERE! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS EVER SINCE THIS WAS ANNOUNCED IN THE COMMUNITY POSTS!
Had some laughs from the commentary and editing that rivaled the clip from the show. Very impressive!
Thanks so much mate!!
They nailed that live tempo mishap that often happens to live performances
clicked faster than i could register anything about this video, as always excited to see your piece of art.
In my anime journey I never thought Bocchi would be the kind of show I liked but it honestly blew me away.
27:57 this is something done throughout the whole anime, but wrapping the cable around the strap is a very small detail that is legitimately amazing to see as a musician (its so that the cable isnt yoinked out if its stepped on)
Anime wins describing his music taste and reflecting mine too exactly is something I’d never thought I’d hear
The fact that they actively acknowledge bocchis facial freakouts, even trying to fix them with like a chisel, or when she turns to ash, is somehow hilarious to me
Finallyyyyy, I discovered your channel pretty recently and I'm now semi-binging trough all the shows i know, nice work my dude.

if i was counting the wins.... there would be a win for every frame XD
Bruh, I just finished watching. You got impeccable timing
My experience watching this anime can be summed up into "She's literally unironically me"
I clicked so fast for this one I freaking love this show I would give you 300 likes if I could
same XD
20 average wins per episode is great
and I want to give it a win personally for actually releasing all of these songs on spotify under "結束 バンド" which is "Kessoku bando". Great detail outside the anime
I literally just binged this a week ago, and now I see this video??? Such good timing :)
“It sucks being in a band and looking at the crowd, because there’s always so many people looking disinterested at the work you’re putting into a performance”
Hence why I now make it my job to enjoy when someone is performing. I hear my fellow friends critiquing and nitpicking at the job, yet it doesn’t sound horrible to me.
It’s really sad, but that’s honestly how performances go.
the note for note playing during the performance scenes won me over
Funny how you either missed the Kira Bites Za Dust reference, or did not enjoy it enough to give it a win, and one the moments that always get me is the scene in the last ep, when Nijika says that she probably should buy a guitar and they imagine her using guitars to play drums, it always gets me
10:26
-unless you stole it from me, in which case, I’ll FIND you!
Actually bursted out laughing, thank you for that!
Glad I could help!
Ngl Bocchi the rock was one of those anime that really makes me sad when its done after i finish watching it in like a day 🥲
I believe the glass thing was using a slide, which is one way to stall for time with a broken string (which I only know because it was discussed after the finale)
i put your channel on when i’m going to sleep to help rack up views don’t want one of my fav channels to go down
A lot of anime references in bocchi the rock.
For the scene where bocchi's string broke, the song writer for bocchi the rock actually cuts his own guitar string as well, used a glass as a slide and played the same exact tune that bocchi played in another youtube video
I can't believe he left out the joke of Nijika buying a guitar
I'll say I'm autistic (Asperger's) with ADHD and this is the first anime character that not only have I 100% identified with but can relate a real life experience with everything she goes through.
It's also the funniest anime I've seen in years!!!! XD
Unironically one of the top 3 shows of the year right here
12:50 I haven't seen anyone else mention it, but Bocchi's run there is also a reference to FLCL
