      DJ Rick Web so I have a numark mixtrack non pro. it has no internal soundacard and has no rca ports or anything, only a cable port for it to be powered up. How would I set this up to a pair of power speakers?

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  7 років тому +1

      +Let me school you you need a seprate mixer then to run the output from your laptop (3.5mm headphone jack) into. You could just simply buy a headphone jack to xlr conversion cable and use that. But preferably you need some form of a mixer to get the signal output gain up.

    Finally someone who knows how to power JBLs, even sales people in the stores like GC talk down on JBLs and talk up QSCs because they don't know this or they're looking for a bigger commission. I don't know. But that was excellent advice.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  8 років тому +3

      +James P its hard not to talk up a qsc from a sales prospective they have had the same model out for years and its a solid model. But seriously I think that solid model is starting to get beat out by better technology not just from JBL but EV too.

    Hi DJ Rick
    I'm just starting with DJ'ing - A little too old perhaps but I got to find a hobby - I always wanted to play music in small venues and did it way back in the 80's/90's - Didn't have the technology on hand like today but managed to get by - Now, retired - just want to play music for fun and at friends and family events -
    I'm a little rusty to being - This is what I have so far purchased and hoping you can help me along with the setup and requirements need to setup my Dj system -
    Hardware - Laptop / ThinkPad T440 or and MACBOOK late model - can upgrade later when I get the hang of this DJ'ing
    DJ Controllers - Hercules DJ Console/Controller MK4 2 Channels
    Microphones
    Speakers - Mission Stereo Speakers with wires no power speakers -
    Will get a proper speakers later on if the non-powered speaker with wires don't cut it - Don't have an amp - dont know if I need one to connect my speakers to my controllers
    Like I said I'm completely a green starter - Looking for some advise, setup , support - much appreciate for your input and honest opinion PLEASE!!
    Note: I want to Join your site and support you every way to provide some compensation for your support and help but running into a road block when joining using my Paypal - It just freezes -
    If you have another way to repay you with your genuine support , please let me know - I'm from Canada - Not that it matters but just wanted you to know .
    Best regards
    Matteo Manfredi

      +ThomasGrillo there is no such set thing to determine wattage to room size. Way to many perrameters to determine. Like how many people what type of music room layout dimensions of the room. Where you will be placed. The goal of the event. For instance this one venue for a wedding I bring 2 tops 2 subs only. For a prom in the same place I bring 4 tops and 4 subs. More people in the room and I need to fill the room with sound verse the wedding where it needs to be loud on the dance floor but in the back of the room it just needs to be loud enough to make announcements.

    Just saw this video in my feed today. It is not possible to destroy most speakers (if not all) due to active speakers containing a hard limiter set to when the peak light illuminates

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  6 років тому +1

      Not the case with all. I have seen prxs, eons, qsc k12s. And others blown. But it also comes down to distortion.when using a proper gain structure you limit distortion.

    First off, I totally love your videos!!!!!!!!!
    I have two ev zlx12p's, and a gemini subwoofer (xtr 500sat) which only has speakon outputs, and for inputs it has separate pair of xlr's and 1/4 inch TRS) and a behringer 1204FX mixer.
    As of now,
    I go from Controller ----> mixer----->2 speakers------>SUB.
    But there is very low bass coming out of the sub.
    If i do Controller --------> mixer------->SUB ----->TOPS (speakon to XLR/TRS). . . I know i will get bass but, i'm afraid the power from speakon will blow the powered speakers.
    How do I get more bass out of the sub in this set up?
    Pls advise.

    Hi Rick, have you made the same video or similar, for SRX speakers?
    I'm trying to setup my srx 812 and 828 at home, i'm a bit confused about the channel signal input and gain input. currently channel signal is a 0, gain is a 6db but i need to setup my mixer like you just tought in the video.
    also on the mixer, when your slider goes above 0db, does it distort the signal or it is only when the VU meter goes red that distortion is present?
    btw, a 828 in a house, is freaking amazing 😅 stuff is falling of the shelves haha.
    Thanx for your input and your time.

      I was looking at videos, because I'm about to go buy a bit more speakers. I currently use a DDJ-SZ, 2 JBL SRX-815P speakers, and one Mackie SRM1850.
      I'm thinking of getting rid of the Mackie, and getting the JBL SRX818 power subs. In the near future, maybe getting 2 more SRX815 speakers for a total of 4. I think that would be my ideal setup for events of 300+ guests. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is that money well spent? I'm doing over 100 events a year, and 35-40 weddings a year. I'm thinking it's time to reinvest into my system a bit.
      The issue I'm having is that the music is just not loud enough. I'm usually going directly from DDJ-SZ, into the sub, and from the sub to the tops. The SRX815 speakers have a channel 1 & 2 input that I set at 0, and a master that I put at about +6 or +8. Recently I've had to put it at +10.
      I've been playing with the full range pass to the tops as well as the 100Hz setting on both the tops and the sub.
      I'm going to try to see if configure the gains as you suggested helps. I'm sure I'm screwing that up pretty bad. I would like to play everything in the green, but I've been pushing into the yellow recently because it's just not loud enough. I always make sure my speakers never hit the limit though.
      Sorry for the long message, but any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

    I do things in reverse on the board. I keep my master down lower and increase it throughout the evening. My Mic Channels on my Denon MC6000mk1 and mk2 boards ran extremely hot so this won't be an issue for people to hear speeches. Also, I would hate to accidentally hot one of the channels and have dinner music going full blast and have grandma drop dead of a heart attack. lol

    @vivekmangipudi3773 8 років тому

    This is so well explained. it
    Cleared a lot of doubts.
    I have a very confusing question.
    I have two Alto ts 212 1100watt powered speakers. and one Gemini xtr 500 sat powered sub woofer.
    i want to hook them all to my controller through my behringer eurorack 1204 mixer.
    currently I'm connecting my controller to the mixer. mixer to the subwoofer, subwoofer outputs to the speakers.
    now
    since the speakers are already powered, when you connect from powered subwoofer to already powered speakers, will the speakers get damaged? ( is it a bad thing?)
    now If You connect one cable, first from mixer to Speaker. and then from speaker mix out to sub woofer, will that work?

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  8 років тому

      +Vivek Mangipudi either method will work that is also know as daisy chaining. It is used all the time in the dj world. Depending on manufactors recomendation they might say the go either sub first or tops first. Wither doesnt matter. Some subs will have a high pass out for the speakers which affectivly will cut the bass that the sub is already producing from the subs aloughing them to be the louder since the speakers arent try to rproduce the bass that the sub is producing. Like wise sometimes manufactors such as qsc put this high pass option in there top speakers so you could run to the speakers first then the subs. Overall either method works but if theres a high pass available either on your tops or sub. Sometimes on top speakers its called sub mood which is what my eons say. But the high pass will help your tops a bunch with making them louder and improving the sound of your setul.

    Very well explained DJ..RW My request???s I need to connect my Mix5 Mixer, that has (L/R 1/4" outs) to a single powered speaker with ONE (1/4" input and one XLR in/out). Plus I need to connect to a house speaker system. But my single powered speaker will be my monitor. Is this possible? and if so what do it need to connect these and will I be able to achieve stereo sound? So MIXed up rght now, pleez help

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  8 років тому

      Couple questions whats the input for the house system and does it have output of any kind? If there is no output option you are going to have to connect to the powered monitor then the house system. And in that route do to the single output of the speaker you will only be able to hook up the house system in mono. Honestly I prefer mono over stereo. But to do this here is what you will need.
      1 - 1/4 to 1/4 cable
      1 - 1/4 to male xlr cable
      you can run the L channel to the 1/4 input on the speaker and the R channel to the xlr input. Then you can run the xlr ouput to the house system. Depending on the inputs of the house system there are a lot of adapter cables to meet the needs for that input just give it a search on amazon.
      Hope this helps

    Hi rick, greetings from Ireland. Question... I’m using a pair of Alto T15 active tops & I’m using a Hercules RMX controller linked to a Gemini 2 channel mixer. The controller doesn’t have an led display for the 0db thing so where should my knobs on the mixer/speakers be set. Should I turn the speaker volume to about 2 o’clock & control volume thru master vol control on mixer? Should my master vol on my controller be at max, thanks

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  6 років тому

      Like I said in the video with out a led readout all you need to know is keep any volume knob at or below 75% or 3/4 turn. You never want any gains at max. If you can run both at 12 a clock and get the speaker to limit that would be ideal.
