One feature he did not mention ,perhaps his brother failed to tell him, is the increase in volume you get from your main speakers when you use the active sub woofer to process the incoming signals from the mixer and send only the mid and highs to your main speakers! Because these main speakers do not have to handel the bass signals they have more volume output! And trust me its nice to have that extra voluume! Also with a good crossover in the sub or subs the bass should not be a problem regarding volume or muddy bass! But having said this i think this is a excellent video tutor!
Great info! Glad I stumbled across this video. Prepping for 2 events next month. Right on time. Definitely will put this golden gem of how- to ...to good use! 😊😊👍🏾🎶🎶 Thank you!
Not sure if this has already been said, but with the EV speakers you can control the volumes separately using their Bluetooth app. I’ve used this and it works well.
Thank you for explaining everything. I have a question. When you are connecting your computer or an iPad to the external mixer, do you need to use left and right channels on the mixer or just one channel? Would that be the left input channel on external mixer? Thank you
Depends on your external mixer. You can use either an XLR to 1/8 inch cable into 1 channel or you can use a dual 1/4 to 1/8 into 2 channels. It all depends on how many channels you will be using.
Hello, beautiful video... I would like to ask you and ask if it is possible to connect subwoofers to the mixing desk also in the control room? Thank you Lada
I have a Mackie ProFX12v3 12-Channel. Where would the 1/4 inch go and how would I control the vol of the subs differently from the main? Thanks - Great Video
Thank's man i wasn't really sure how to use the aux send for the sub woofer independently. But if i understand this correctly it is only the volume of the sub you have control over right ? I mean the signal sent to the sub is still ''imprinted'' with all the highs and mids settings right ? Which begs the question of how i can use the low cut button on the mix to reduce boomy (overwhelming) very low end sound. ? At any rate thank's for the video dude, have a great day.
Correct. Your subwoofer should have a crossover to make sure it only plays the lower frequencies. I don’t know if a way to fine tune the mono signal to EQ just the subwoofer. That is when you will probably need the concert style 24 + channel mixers with all the technology in it.
I have 2 ELX200 15P's and 1 ELX200 18SP. Your sound advice here seems solid. I am not sure about the DSP on your speakers, but do you still set crossover points on the sub and tops in this configuration? Also with the separate volume for the sub, do you just monitor the clip led or do you place a mark on the sub volume to know max output if you can't monitor the clip led of the sub?
I do use the built in DSP on my speakers to set the crossover point. Luckily, my EV’s have a setting where I can say that I am pairing my specific EKX 15sp subwoofer with my top cabinet so that the crossover is perfect. I only use the mixer to control the volumes separately. I do monitor the clip on my subwoofers from time to time. Having used these subs for a good while now, I can usually tell by the loudness and punch of the bass if I am coming close to clipping. If I am clipping, I just turn down the volume on my mixer through my Aux Out and I’m good to go.
Am I right to think that the dsp setting on your tops isn’t working in sync with the bin as they both ain’t getting the same direct signal output normally when tops are connected to the sub via the crossover running off the main out put together the high end is split high to tops and low to bin but I don’t see how this works with your set up on seperate aux output 🙈
I am not too familiar with those speakers so I can't speak to it. I personally would prefer to have an external mixer next to me rather than in my speaker so I can control things better.
Hey bro, my music when I play with a laptop has good quality. But when I play with my console bass, it is very low, and HI is very high. My console is ddj flx 6. What is the reason?

Yeah but the problem is that TRS are only have limited meters to make it work with properlly on signal. XLR is still the best way and for mono why not connect left and right in individual channels to make it mono? Most of pa speakers now have apps so you can control their individual volumes
Doesnt putting the sub on aux send 1 get annoying as a DJ though? If you're killing the music and want just the microphones with sound you need to adjust two knobs. I guess you could turn down on the software but eh

It was an XLR port on the back of the sub. The cable I used was a 1/4 inch to XLR. They make these so you can go from one connection point to another depending on your setup.

Your “Mon Send” is what you use to hook up your subwoofer. Run a 1/4 inch cable out of your mixer then plug it into your sub with either a 1/4 inch cable or a XLR cable on the other end. Then use the green “Aux” knob on the channel that the music is plugged into.

I’m glad this video helped! I own the Yamaha MG06fx and it does not have a separate “out” designated because they wanted to keep it smaller and compact. The Yamaha 10 channel mixer has an option to use your “FX Send” as a separate “Out” for your subs. But if you were to use any effects such as reverb or anything, I don’t think it would work that well. On the Yamaha 10 channel, you also have the option to run an “Out” on your monitor out line located at the top right as well. I originally looked into getting the Yamaha 10 but I decided to get the Allen & Heath because of the extra “Outputs” that it had.
Can you show how to hook up 2 tops & 1 sub to one channel (left)on the mixer and do the same thing on the (right) side of the mixing board consisting of two tops and one sub. Do you run 2 separate aux lines to the individual subs on individual channels then connect the two tops on each side?

So how does the amp come into play ? This looks like your mixer is the amp : it doesn't show an amplifier connected here. Also, in this setup the stops and the subs would be on the same EQ right ?
Where is your crossover frequency? I guess you dont want to run a full signal into your tops when using subs. That is the main reason people run their signal into the sub, because that sub has a built in crossover and you dont rek your tops with too loud bass.
EV has a crossover setting in the DSP to allow me to choose the specific model of EV subwoofer I am using. The crossover is set automatically to match the sub. If I didn't't have that capability, I would set it to 100hz
If you’re running monitors, then you’ll need a larger mixer that has multiple Aux sends. Usually you start seeing multiple Aux sends in 16 channel mixers and larger.

What if your mixer doesn't have aux. I have a mackie profx 10 channel?
Does it matter if the cable from AUX plug in to input R subwoofer or input L?
You know the speakers and subs have volume controls and crossover outs?. you do know what crossover is?
If someone reads this and if you know for sure can you respond to this ? I would appreciate it, thanks ??
Could you show how to set up 3 top and one subwoofer, Can seem to get the third speaker to work.
Actually we have thesame connections sir, thanks for sharing to others👍❤️❤️
my question is does it matter if you use a stereo cable? or a mono 1/4 inch cable in the aux?
ok got it but if you got 2 sub woofers how do you run them in stereo. use a splitter
I know this clip has been a while. I know the EKX system has a setting for the tops and the sub for a crossover setting such as EKX top to match the EKX sub…I use the crossover setting and set my highs to -6, mids -4, and lows to -4…Do you do the same, or what is your setting?
I do not mess with adjusting H/M/L to - or +. I only adjust the crossover setting for frequency compatibility.
I’m using only LP records and players via mixer to power Amp then speaker.
Haven’t added any sub woofer yet as I’m confused about the Base performance form sub will I achieve or not
I’m sure from CD signal I can get good bass from sub
I don’t play CDs anymore
Please suggest a normal mono sub woofer for my set up considering that I’m using only records and turntables
I use Behringer DDM 4000 mixer
It’s only for my home use not for DJ.
Wow that’s awesome I had some issues this weekend with my sound idk if it was my DJ controller software or speakers but I was pushing them load and I think they got hot and it like shut of for a second a came back on the power didn’t turn off tho I think I need a board like yours
You def need an external mixer - plus it will sound so much better.
So how does the amp come into play ? This looks like your mixer is the amp : it doesn't show an amplifier connected here. Also, in this setup the stops and the subs would be on the same EQ right ?
Powered speakers, amp is built in.
Did you ever make the video that showed how to do two subs instead of one?
Great video thx much!! One question tho I don't have Aux out on my mixer instead I have Phone, would it work?
Hi, where do you get your output from for monitors on stage?
Where is your crossover frequency? I guess you dont want to run a full signal into your tops when using subs. That is the main reason people run their signal into the sub, because that sub has a built in crossover and you dont rek your tops with too loud bass.
EV has a crossover setting in the DSP to allow me to choose the specific model of EV subwoofer I am using. The crossover is set automatically to match the sub. If I didn't't have that capability, I would set it to 100hz
Hey ! What brand do you recommend for a beginner
my mixer have (CR) means control room.. can i use that to control my bass only just like how u use aux for your bass
I believe so
When it says aux send on the mixer is that the same as aux output?
Usually, yes.
Hey 👋🏼 quick question can I use 2 speakers and subwoofer without mixer ?
EV Evolve 50M, yes you can.
How did you connect your laptop with an Xlr?
How can I connect mono for 2 separate subs?...
I been dj clubs bars in ftw for 3 years now I need a mixer ima grab one thanks
What do you do if your doing sound for a band, the aux send are fiir monitors. So how can you seperate the subs?
If you’re running monitors, then you’ll need a larger mixer that has multiple Aux sends. Usually you start seeing multiple Aux sends in 16 channel mixers and larger.
Where would you plug the other sub at? I'm confused because I only see one AUX out?
You would daisy chain from sub 1 to sub 2. Mixer into sub 1 then out of sub 1 into sub 2.
Sounds so obvious but I’ve always ran my controller through sub then out to speakers, great video thankyou
If you have a second sub would you connect it to the sub that's connected to the mixer?
Yes. Daisy chain from sub 1 to sub 2
Hey BRY ! What if theres 2 subs ? Just put a 1/4 cable into another channel ? I looks like there only is 1 AUX out, and a FX Send out.
Go from Aux send to sub 1 then out of sub 1 to sub 2. Daisy chain.
@@DJ-BRY Of course ! Much appriciated !
What’s that amplifier called ?
Lately I’ve been running mono out of my dj mixer and using booth output to my subs for the same effect. Essentially the booth knob becomes the bass knob.
Penso che questo modo di collegare il sub sia il modo migliore. Grazie mille.
Hi I have been doing for about 10 years and always ran my cable to input on subs then link to my tops, but I agree the way you just described will be better. My mixer Yamaha MG12XU. Could you please explain how to route my cables. I have never used aux sends. Thanks for the tip. My name is Mark
Great video simple explanation! My mixer does not have auxiliary outs how else would I connect the subwoofer?
I have a yamaha mg10ux mixer and it doesnt have aux send, connecting 2 alto ts15s and 2 ev zlx 12p, can i use the monitor output or fx send or headphone out?
Thanks
Very interesting and well explained your brother in law will definitely know more than many DJ's being a sound engineer, thank you.
