2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Pearl Jam perform "Better Man" during the 32nd Annual Induction Ceremony at the Barclays Center in NYC.
To all the people asking why the crowd booed when Eddie introduced the keyboard player...they weren't booing...it's a PJ concert tradition when Eddie introduces Boom Gaspar (on keyboard), the crowd goes "Booooooooommm".....
Ahhhh! Finally! CONTEXT! Thank you! I was thinking 'What a fucking horrible crowd!'
This is what the comment section's made for.
Vilzo Natso Exactly! And not to fill them with dates (making a calendar out of them), “who still listening in ####?”, etc. Ugh!
As a Lakers fan, Coooop and a Kings fan, Luuuuc, I understand.
Thank you some folks were lost.
We often celebrate the musicians who die young. I'm so happy Eddie and Pearl Jam decided to live. We need them. Great music.
Yes!
When the pandemic is over i will watch PJ concert if ever they decide to have it here in the Philippines!!! U are welcome here in the Philippines Eddie!!!!!i've been listening to them since my college days!! Im still a fan until now!!!
Well said.
They decided not to do drugs so yeah.
@@joshualammi5306 What a dumb and inaccurate comment.
No greater honor than to have the whole audience sing your song back to you! What a gift!
I agree...once at a police concert in Toronto 2000 something (apparently I saw them when I was 2 in Toronto at the horseshoe tavern) they started playing rxanne and Sting being the dick he is refused to sing/play until 50000 of us stopped singing...I would consider t an honour for my fans t sing the s ngs
@@teenastetic3681 I have done UA-cam searches for audiences who do just this and more than just a few times I get choked up seeing the singers/songwriters response's!!
Check out the version from Madison Square Garden. The crowd’s singing of Better Man was stunning.
He has to be one of the best live singers rock of all time
you know you are getting old when youre youth heroes enters Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
and you are real old, when nearly all of your favorite bands in it...^^
You know you're old when the ones with the grayest hair are the ones you think are the hottest - Boom Gaspar!
And they go from torn up clothes to all black.
But never old in your mind

I was never a huge Pearl Jam fan back in their day, but since paying more attention to Eddie on You Tube currently, I've discovered he's a brilliantly talented man with so much to share.......
Same. Was a teen in the 90’s and big grunge fan. Was into Nirvana and others. Never much for PJ. But have developed an appreciation for them now. Still not in love with their sound but I definitely appreciate them.
Why the hell not?
@@scottluebke5012 o
First song I was in love and awe immediately, while some thought they were just posers riding on nirvana's coat tails, how wrong they were. I'm not always right but happy to say I was on this one lol.
I loved their first album, ten, then I drifted away from them over the years.
then I got sirius radio in my car and they started a Pearl Jam station 2 or 3 years ago. Pearl Jam is one of my favorite 'band' channels that I flip between when driving, the concert replays from all over the world going back to 1992 are awesome.
Eddie and other band members occasionally do audience call-ins and stuff, whenever I've heard him on sirius, Eddie has been cool about taking questions but he'll also joke around with callers, no big rock star ego or anything.
I like they have that legacy of going up against Ticketmaster (even though they lost). Eddie and the band will def call 'bullshit' when they see it, that is the true spirit of a rocker to me!

Layne

They’re all gone .
Thank God we still have Eddie .
Reminds us of what an awesome time we had in the 90s and the price they all paid for our entertainment.
Heyy ahhh i’m still alive

Dios GRUNGE
Yep! That's what happens when you don't use heroin!
I was just watching their performance of Jeremy from MTV unplugged in 92. It's really amazing we can watch someone's progression of life in mere seconds. Time is a strange thing. Love Pearl Jam.
You know that your music is special when the crowd starts singing before you do 😮
It's so weird that we're watching our heroes die/grow old like Eddie, Layne, Chris Cornell, etc, on UA-cam, like our parents watched The Beatles on Ed Sullivan VHS tapes.. Damn we're getting old..
That’s facts, Top 10 Archives. Too real.

Death comes for us all
Look in his eyes while singing you can still see the crazed youth that takes over every performance. The body has aged but the music transcends
So in PA 94 we had a blizzard and were stuck inside for days. I remember playing excite bike on Nintendo and listening to Pearl Jam nonstop. To go back to that time for just one hour would be blissful! Rock on PJ
Omg I remember that!!!
You said that and I instantly went back in time 🥹
WOW that just brought me WAY back. Thank you. 👍🏻👊🏻
I love them for their authenticity, both in their music and as human beings...
Can't get Eddie Vedder than that.
Amen
Please come on. Stay on the grround
Holy shit, Eddie Vedder aged gracefully!
yah, and he is the only one alive, as far as "grunge" (cough) music.... think about it!
ConsciousMachine 413 Not at all. There’s more then 4 grunge bands. Plus you’re overlooking Jerry Cantrell.
@@goldenhourkodak are you joking? Layne Staley was the lead singer, moron. Cantrell plays guitar, i am talking about lead singers. And yes, you are so fucking wise to point out there were more than 4 "grunge" bands, but ALL of them that actually sold records and stood behind the mic ARE DEAD.
@@consciousmachine4138 Cantrell had solo albums, cantrell also sang back up, you moron
So I suppose The Smashing Pumpkins just don’t exist? And also (maybe) The Foo Fighters and Blind Melon? What about Queens of the Stone Age? They all released many records, and a lot of people know them, and, more importantly, they all still exist.
You know you lived a good life when you reminisce over the way things were. PJ, AIC, STP, Nirvana, Soundgarden...the alternative rock soundtrack to my college years.
Most underrated performer ever.. I am 56 and just discovered that I love Eddie Vedder..
Thats a great discovery 👌
I’m 18 and heard pearl when I was born just goes to show how age doesn’t matter.
I am 58 and discovered him when I was 14
Have you been living in a hole
Saw them when I was 18, now 46.
They so deserved this. Incredible band and great human beings too.
> Incredible band and great human beings too.
Hmph, not sure about that last part. Just ask Dave Abbruzzese. And manager Kelly Curtis is a real piece of shit, from what I've heard.
beautiful song...beautiful humans too...love them. love this
Still waiting for Alice in Chains to be inducted
+MrTechselect damn straight over due. also stp not sure if they are already lol
yep!
The 80s taught me about shredding and style. The 90s taught me about heart and soul. The millennium, fk it all. Thank god for my musical heroes. Saved my life on so many occasions. I live thru song now In life and its been one hell of a journey. Just lost my mom and I'm returning to my roots for peace. God help me. Thank you to every single person that's played a role in this story so far, ✊❤🤘🤜🤛💪
As a 15 year old who’s grown up on Pearl Jam I really hope I get to see them live some day and Eddie is truly a man I look up to.
I’ve met him multiple times and he really is such a nice and genuine person
@@tylerdallas2320 Multiple times? That’s really cool. I’m not at all jealous lol. But I can honestly not see Eddie not being a very nice and genuine person.
@@flashfire3564 as a 15 year old myself I 100% agree
There's hope
I was 19 when their first album dropped. Worked in a record store and fell in love with their music immediately. I've seen them in concert more times than I can count and every time is a magical experience. Not every band can pull off a seamless 3 hour concert that pulls everyone into a collective vibe. Pearl Jam achieves this every time. Very cool that you're into them at 15. I highly recommend you go see them live. It will become a core memory.
Eddie is just pure Eddie. His voice is an wonderful experience. The performance is a great show. Love you, Eddie! 👏💓
What a voice of a man who brought up hard, but never succumbed to drugs/alcohol
Well not heroin
You think he didnt drink alcohol?
@@iridescent9254 They probably mean that he's not an alcoholic.
@@drumfeck5970 no i think he was an alcoholic many times in his life, especially in 93-95 but im not sure
Thank you Susan for your love and support. How long have you been listening to my songs?
Pearl Jam is a solid, genuine class act. Respect to Eddie and the boys for your passion and for your efforts. Thank you for the life I have with you in it.
I love all the grunge front men (nirvana caught my attention first) but i think i can appreciate eddie just cause hes stayed clean and has been such a great dude the last 30 years and not to mention hes still here with us.
I'm turning "70" on July 1st & Pearl Jam is still on my Bucket List....dang COVID blew my chance, had hoped to see them but concert was cancelled. ..my fingers & toes are crossed.
god I hate the hands of time, people age, people change , times pass, all we can do is appreciate and cherish the great moments of life during those times,,,, and Pearl Jam is one of those bands that will always be with us . #respect
Ryan Shordee really rrr
push harder then!!!!!
Yeah, we thought Soundgarden would be too, now Chris Cornell is dead never having achieved this great honor which they no doubt deserved first.
Beautifully worded

Keyboardist makes this song so great and people don’t even realize. Long live the keyboardists.
I don't understand. Why again, is the Big Mana not in the Hall?
They so deserved this. Incredible band and great human beings too.
I’m almost 50 now...Why do they still almost make me cry each time I listen to them ???
I’m 61 & feel the same! We lived in Seattle for 30 years, during grunge & my house was full of PJ…..I was so young & had a teen son. Great memories.
Riiiiiiight! We are getting old. I was in the Navy when "Black" was released. Still my fav song today!!!
he still sounds the same, and aging gracefully
watch the MTV unplugged concert and you'll see an example of Eddie at his real PRIME.
@@zoahzoahzoah Yeah, his vocals sound kinda off here
He sounds good but not at all the same
Yes, he'll have it 4 Awhile, he's seasoned & Ed's vocals gets it Right when Live!!
I loved his long hair better
Full body chills as I hear the crowd singing the song lyrics in unison - Gotta be a feelgood moment for Eddie
Responding from the future and the past, lol. I had the luck to see Pearl Jam live in the 90's and he HATED the crowd singing along. He would deliberately switch up his lyrics and the tempo of the songs to keep people from joining in, which you can still see him do in this video to a degree. Still a most excellent concert from a talented band. I think he finally somewhat warmed up to the sing-alongs.
He will never measure up to Chester or Chris!...ever!
I saw Eddie last month and he got pissed because the crowd kept singing over him. I was pissed too. I came to hear Eddie. Not a bunch of Walmart cashiers singing
Especially for young Eddie! I believe he wrote this song when he was like 16 or something!
@@willthomas4842 there might have been some Target employees in the crowd also
I was a big time Pearl Jam fan during the 90's. Still am. Man, I'm getting old when a grunge band you grew up with enters the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. So awesome to see them inducted.
I may be old but my generation of music was & is THE BEST
46 years old and TOTALLY agree. 1st saw PJ was back in 1992. I miss the 90's
Something about the way Eddie has always held his microphone is so damned sexy to me.
Everything about the man is so damned sexy to me.
Watch Michael Stipe from REM in the 80's you will find one of Eddie's biggest inspiration on this mic matter haha
the way his vocals have aged is absolutely beautiful.
Thank God we still have Eddie💞💞💞
I love his voice so much it actually makes my heart squeeze
It was better in the 90's
You can just see him get lost in the music when he starts singing. Like he goes back to his young self
you are always in our Hall of Fame... your music with Chris is forever etched
First cd I ever bought was Pearl Jam, my favourite band and still is.. love their music and it still rocks . Eddie was cute way back then and grew more handsome with again. His voice is unique and beautiful ❤
I fell in love with Eddie Vedder first time I ever heard their music. Something about this man. His voice, the words he sings, the way he holds a microphone! I saw them so many times. All over the country.
Thank you Michelle for your love and support. How long have you been listening to my songs?
One of my favourite bands, ever ! I grew up with Pearl Jam and I'll be buried with them. Just a great & very, very talented brotherhood of musicians; beautiful to watch and to listen to.
my favourite band, I just want to see them live once & then I can die in peace
ImBsal God, me too.
I can die in peace coz i saw them once in 05,i was 18, they changed my life!!!
I understand you so much! I'm a fan since 1992 from France. I saw them for the first time on the 7th of july 2018 at Rock Werchter Festival. I send you all my Love and wish you to be Lucky enough to see them live! It's really life changing !!!!
I hear you
@@tamaraeandrews I'm so happy !!!!
The beginning with the crowd singing had me in tears. I really hope to go see Pearl Jam and as many rock legends that are still here with us before it's too late. Even the Rolling Stones, despite qualms about their current live performances.. So many generations of rock run in my family's veins, and I feel like going to these concerts would complete some sort of circuit within my brain lol. Like, they're such an integral and personal part of my so many people's lives, and it's like seeing an old friend...
“Just Breathe” gets me every time! Willy Nelson and one of his sons does a fabulous cover of it!💗
the best band of the last 30 years
I was once sick and had a bad head cold. My daughter asked if I was feeling any better. I heard " Are you feeling Eddie Vedder? " I said " God, I wish!". We do this all the time. This song reminds me of the time we were grilling shrimp and she said " I can't find the butter man! " LOL.
Ellen Wickard “god I wish” made me spit my coffee onto my phone, thanks 😂
That's remarkable and adorable at the same time
Now that funny thanks I needed that first chuckle of 2019
Ellen Wickard, now that's hilarious. Your daughter is awesome.
That reminded of a Local H song - "Eddie Vedder" there was a line like "If i was eddie vedder, would you like me any better"
Eddie Vedder is a class act! Well done, Eddie!
I miss this, I miss life before C.
I'm on a PJ binge watch, wishing Eddie is doing good ♡ we need him for many years to come.
When the crowds start singing 🙌🏻❤️
After Robert Plant, Eddie Vedder is my favorite singer. He may be one of the most powerful voices in rock history
Yup. As much as i respect his contemporaries, he's the one who speak the most to me. It's just pity that i was interested more on the british indie scene during the grunge time that i never really enjoy their music when i was younger.
G . i . t . M .
Along with Layen stayley and couple others, Eddie is one of my favourite
No he is the best rock and roll front man in rock and roll history. And Pearl jam is hands down the greatest rock and roll band of all. Pearl jam can blow away the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin 7 times a week and twice on Sunday.
@@tommysteinike8728 never liked em

Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell. The best voices ever.❤
It makes me teary eyes every time I watch this.. damn, years passes by quickly. I'm glad that Pearl Jam remained healthy and active till this day.. and the downside, makes me feel old too, hahaha!
The way he introduces Boom... classic act Eddie, very inspirational
This is the best version of Better Man I've seen. They were hyped up!
This song came out when I was going through some absolutely crazy times in my life, dealing with childhood trauma that was suppressed, out of several toxic relationships, and just trying to heal from all of it.
I know the words by heart, and, like most every Pearl Jam song, this one especially hit my heart hard.
I needed this as part as the soundtrack of my life!
Same here!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one!!
Bless healing a rough road, it's true . You find a better man,. Stay strong! Love is a great feeling! Allways
Opening side, can't seem catch her. Always happy. Life😊
Boooooooooom!!! 👍😁 Seen this iconic band 26 times! Just getting warmed up!!
Pearl Jam changed my life. This will sound cliche but they did. I got in to Pearl Jam really late but that was right when I was goin through a rough patch and Betterman really helped me get through it :)
great to see his ol' tele make it back to the stage. By the way it's crazy how Ed can keep time with thousands of people singing misplaced lyrics and also while talking. he's a fucking pro. and still has a crazily perfect voice. cheers to him and the band

briantoddyahoo i guess that would create a even bigger mess
He's also a damn good guitar player. Mcready says ed can do stuff that he can't even do on the guitar. No 0ne talks about it. Great songwriter, singer, instrumentalist ( harmonica, ukelele, guitar...). And a damn awesome human being!
@@trumpjonguno6994 I think Mike is being generous there, but I don't think there is anything Mike motherfuckin McCready can't play , nice name by the way
I remember the first time I heard Pearl Jam, I mean the exact location and time, I was taken and smitten at first listen. I wore that cassette tape out I loved them so much.
I bought the CD, and if it could be done, I would have worn that out! I used to listen to Ten on repeat all day at work.
The year is 2020, and this song keep being one of my favorites... Who else?

I love his reaction when the crowd starts singing it to him before he even starts
ever since it was released :)
Larissa Nico Yep,
He can still sing better than any other rock singer on the planet. There has never been a better vocalist in my opinion!!!
Lee Guest Axl Rose....
BRUH, are you joking? This dude is on a whole other level than Axl Rose.
justjac123 Axl was great but today...
Mike Patton is someone who can beat Vedder on this, he's so versatile and fearless, but I still think Vedder has the most unique voice of all, for sure.
While I'm not one to make any such definitive statement, Vedder has this timbre, this passion in his voice which tugs at the heart.
I never get sick of hearing these great songs, over and over.
Before I die, I must meet Eddie in person. I have seen him many times in concerts but never in person. I grew up with his music. I lived in Seattle. I worked at Arnies north shore and met Chris Cornell and soundgarden during one of their meetings. I remember the rumor of Pearl Jam playing at a local small bar but I wasn’t old enough to get in. Maybe it will happen.
I would want to meet him because we were both born in Evanston Illinois.
Dave Abbruzzese should have been included and honored. Toured 10, recorded VS. and Vitalogy.
Agreed, but he was kind of a dick
no one outside the band really knows what happened then. it must be hell for Dave to be reminded of it on every damn PJ video. it's been almost 30 years, time to let it go.
Timeless classic.... still sounds as good as it did when it first came out... a once in a generation band
The enthusiasm they show when they play shows you how much they are true musicians. As a guitarist myself they make you wanna play and this show reminds me of why I wanted to play. This country has some great music. Nothing like American rock.
before i die i want to hug him. this band and his voice has been in my life for yeeaaarrrsss. im 35 now and will be 36 in a couple months. i need to put his out in the universe to try to make it happen.
I want to do the same with Sting--He and The Police were my voice in the 80's, my way to live through his solos from 1986-Present. @Meli Havoc
One of the few bands that probably sounds better in a live performance than a recording.
I've heard and seen this song a million times....this is def the best version ever :)
I think you're right, but the audience singing it at Madison Square Garden is right up there with this.
Love the intensity from Ed... He still sounds strong. 💪💪💪💪
I watched this live on HBO and it blew my hair back. It still blows my hair back every time I watch it. Just wish my hair aged as well as Eddie’s did.
@ 4:10, His passion of the lyric...when he said “She needs him....That’s why she’ll be back again.” .......incredible...
Seeing the vid of Eddie singing this in 1989 with Bad Radio and then at the HOF is incredible, this man was born to sing, what a song!
I still heart Pearl Jam, after all these years.

I love this guys , all of them , thru all these years , all those wonderful songs .. and u can see it , they have this strenght ,this passion ... that has only one name : PEARL JAM
As if Eddie could dig deeper into my heart than before- his references to Bruce Springsteen and the E-street band show his reverence and respect for that other group of artists who can make me feel this much.
Absolute fucking rock stars man. I have so much love for grunge. Love being a 90’s kid.
Eddie is a true artist. Every time he performs a song of his the interpretation of it is how he feels it right there right then.
You can never be wrong with this band... they're not getting old. Especially Eddie's voice is still intact.

No more music has such passion and emotion
Pay attention and learn, young musicians.
Seen them twice here in the UK, can't wait to see them again ,brilliant!
I'm 39 now, I've been listening to this band since I was 11 and my older brother turned me onto them after watching Even Flow air on Much Music in Canada when they used to play music! Good memories! Thanks PJ! Long live rock n roll!
My son who is in his 40s loves them little did he know his mom also was a huge fan no generation gap lol
I watched Singles again the other night. 1992. So many crazy world events were swirling at that time and PJ were radiating their success from 10 to an insurmountable wave of musical frenzy. Smart man that Cameron Crowe to book Jeff, Stone, and Eddie in the flick. It is such fun to look back at Pearl Jam's inception and subsequent prolific evolution to a 3 decade legacy. What exceptionally gifted gentlemen they are to sustain in this business and to consistently keep their fan flock together over several generations. Vitalogy has aged quite well. So have you, sons of Seattle.
His voice is still as strong as way back in the 90's, he always seems to be such a terrific human being.
They're having the time of their lives here, I love it.
