you can do a mix of water and corn starch 2:1 and put it around the rim of the container but turn the container upside down while it dries to avoid any protruding bumps they could climb onto. a thin layer of petroleum jelly also works but it’s better for bigger to medium ants. there’s also a company that has a premade formula i love called “byFormica Fluon”
The ant farm is perfect and some species if ants can live a realy long time. That ant species may live a couple of years in there because they don't grow to ahuge size.
If you do enough researchbon ant species you could find one that wohld likely live a few years before it would sessentially be too cramped or unsustainable. Many ant farms usualy have a fittibf for extension tubes that can lead to other terrarium/farms. Ants canada is a great channel about ants colonies and ant farms. I havent watched the channel in some time be ha he had one so large it had tubes extending all througout to the house to a bumber of terrariums. Ultimately depending on what your looking to do the options are almost limitless so long as your ablw to expand, some species by a lot at a time and others a little at a time.

So, I suspect you've been doing this for awhile. What would you recommend I start with for my toddler. He is very much fascinated with insects, spiders, and worms, and is quite serious about it. He insists on his daily "bug walk" around our neighborhood, to check under his favorite stones, to see what he might find. Would love something like this.
Unfortunately all reflective tints are two sided depending on the side which is brightest. While you can have lights inside, like he apparently has, you'd have to view them in a darkened room away from bright lights. Most ants however hate light, seeing as they generally live underground without the joy of electric lighting. So you would only be able to turn it on briefly. The rest of the time you'd be looking at a mirror while they're looking out wondering why it's always so bright and how they should really shove some more substrate to cover it up. ;)
Terrarium is OK but trapping ants feeling i gonna do somthing wrong. But better to build a colony where they can live and go in and out when ever they want.❤
I would die for one of these terrariums. I remember as a kid, sitting around Ant holes, building a giant castle around them and throwing them food. God I would do this for a living. Nature is the coolest.
I would be careful with getting dirt from outside it could have mites or fungus that can kill your whole colony or be very hard to get rid of. How are these gals doing by the way.
I think this is pretty cool, if you use local native ants. Years from now his country will be complaining about the destructive nature of these invasive ants. I live in Florida which is plagued by many invasive species
I have most of the things I need to start my own terrarium. I just don’t have the plants 😂 I live up in the mountains so I am going to have to forage for them. Which means also learn what to forage and how to take care of it. Was easier to buy the stuff ❤ I am doing it though this summer. I have too. If I can figure it out then I will hopefully be able to figure out how to winter ALL my plants over indoors. I am struggling.
It looks really cool really good job but there isn't enough space so I'm hoping you connected to like something else so they can have a proper ant farm and exploration area
Ants don’t need a lot of space to build a nest. They won’t use a lot of space either. So that amount of space that he has now for a few ants is perfectly fine. ( not being mean)
Aunt colonies grow really fast and they can out grow that really fast plus he’s keeping a non-native species so if they escape or he lets them go it could become a problem that’s why ant keepers never keep non-native species they only keep species that are native to the area
@@omegaz7362 If the colony does grow, than yeah obvi get a new tank. But for right now he’s doing fine. And well, it was his choice to get the non- native species.
Just curious if this home is only really good for ants or if it would be cool for other insects or arthropods like a certain type of spider or something like that? Just curious bc I love the little hobbit hole vibe I'm getting here.

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, we are ants to some unknown aliens and if we could find a new weapon, we might rebel from them? Just like the ants.
It’s all fun and games until the magnets don’t work.
Why wouldn't the magnets work?

i would recomend getting him a pet like isopods first and making a turerium. ants are prety easy to kill so hold out for a while.
I love this! I was really into ants as a kid back in the 50s. I had an ant farm but nothing this neat!
Nice love it I keep ants and all these terrarium people are starting this is great

queen ants have a 1 in 10000 survival rate so its more like rescuing them lol
Cena and Ledger love child is at it again, thanks bro, it's so relaxing
I can never unsee this, thanks
This is pretty cool, but is it not a tad too small for those ants? I'm no expert, I'm open to being educated!
EEK ❤ I love your videos your so underrated!!
So what do they eat? Are they strictly herbivores? Its truly amazing. A beautiful desk piece
Why are all his videos so satisfying to watch 😫
Cool channel and videoa
Amazing. Love it
Not gonna lie, but the ant colony is too small for that ant nest, so they might feel insecure in the nest
Give them words of encouragement 😂
I spotted an affirmations list on the ant’s wall so they should be sweet
Make an aquatic terrarium
I love your plant placement!
Looking forward to the part 2, Alien version! Seriously though, very cool.
How did you grow moss on the rock you used in the ant farm? You should do an episode on this.

The whole system would be more healthy, with "happier" ants.

That best would be perfect if they added a humidity water tower 👍 For the queen to have an easier time raising her pupae brood
Good luck if that ever falls or the magnets fail for some reason.
I hear that the stings from those hurt.
Did they dig the Jabba chambers or were those a part of the design?

Damn. Your ants seem pretty sad.

John cena with hair

hi bro where can i purchase the same product as yours in the video above? 👌🏾
How many ants can you fit in that thing?
Are those trapjaw ants

I didnt know John Cena loves ants 😁
Aren't you worried that they might leak out? Or is that possibility unlikely?
This is the world's deadliest ant
will be cool for a few weeks/months till they die off if you don't have a queen to replace them
How much does it cost?
The one in the video costs 65 GBP
Where i can order this aquarium? From indonesia, thanks :)
You have to wipe the rim with a chemical to stop them crawling out.
Slither ants I would have picked a wooden cave
Is it work if i use some ants from my garden? I mean without queen
No. That's not how ant keeping works. You need a queen.
Plot Twist: His habitat is a terrarium for a larger species
is this something you can buy?
Just asking, do any of the bugs get depressed from living in small spaces?
Ants actually find small spaces comforting and safer.
