📚 Description:
I get asked this question a few times each week - what does this Reverb seller from Mexico have against me? My honest answer is I have no clue. To the best of my knowledge I have never done any deals with this guy nor spoke with him to do him any wrong. I can only guess he doesn't like how throughout I am with my gear or he doesn't like what I do with guitars. Or, maybe he is just a big fan that wants to give me a special deal. I did make an offer on the 20/20 Bass and the chopped off fin Explorer about a week about, but I never got a response from the guy. What a shame as those are two cool guitars!
We discuss all of this and more - in this episode of Guitar VAQ (Viewer Asked Questions.

Thoughts on Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom 3A Quilt Top Nordic Blue / Alpine White ?
P.S. Two uploads/day would be amazing
After a week in quarantine watching your videos, I realised we have the same PC mouse ... the logitech m100 .... boredom struck me fast
Trogly: Do you ever buy off of gbase.com?
How can anyone not like the Trog? Lol. You're one of the nicest dudes online. I dont get that dude with something against you Austin man. Lol. Ah well...his loss.
2 a day
Whenever I sell cars, I put "no trade buyers" in the ad. I don't want some car dealer lowballing me on the price so he can go on and make a profit. I believe that this is why the guy won't sell to you.
I agree
This is probably the correct answer.
That's so specific, though, why put that instead of no trade buyers like you do. Not like Trogly is the only person on Reverb trying to buy for a profit.
Yep exactly. I love Trogly's videos but he's a bit nutty sometimes. Like he finally found his dream guitar, the blue sparkle Les Paul Deluxe that he's been searching for for 15 years, it was in great condition and played great... And he sold it within a few days.
Who the hell sells their dream guitar? Why bother searching for it for so long just to get rid of it? He can still sell all his other guitars he gets in, but surely he'd keep _that_ one!?
@@duffman18 because he is a seller. Not so much a guitarplayer
I heard that seller doesn’t want to sell to you because he doesn’t like how you say “metal”
curtamo I heard it was because of how he says “button” but maybe you’re right 😂
Metthul
I hate the why he says "ninety" he says "Nahydee"
I wanna hear him say "A certain metal Gibson model" three times, fast lol
Love the channel, but in all honesty I think 2 uploads a day would be a bit overboard. Your current output is perfect, feel like a daily 2 videos would just lead to oversaturation. Keep up the good work!
The seller knows you purchase for the intent of resale - he/she probably can’t bear to sell to you, knowing you will make money on their sales.
Or, go over the whole guitar like he does and pick out all the cons it has, and reveals the truth about it.
But why doesn’t just put “no traders/resale”
Like Austin is the ONLY person who buys on Reverb to do this? LOL.
He'll take a smaller % for consignment and you'll learn stuff. None of the arguments anyone wants to make is business sensible. It's like trying to justify to stockholders that you won't make a gay cake. I don't think morality should be legislated in a business context - if you are so bad at business (especially in a food industry market segment) then you need to find something else to do. Number one rule in fair business transactions: Everyone Gets Paid. If you are a scammer (or running on super thin margins) then you'll avoid the obvious pros but if they give you what you ask, then you need to suck it up boi and try and learn how they got more.
That's dumb. He's selling and making money off someone else. Funny he can do it but YOU can't.
Honestly, I can understand why he wouldn't want you to make an offer. I'm sure he's seen your videos. He knows you're a business, and he knows you want to make a profit. He probably doesn't want to sell to people like that, and I get it. You're going to low ball him, probably by quite a bit. He doesn't even want to think about dealing with that. He (probably) just wants his instruments to go straight to someone who wants to play them.
Aesthetic Deluxe an offer is an offer, it doesn’t take too much effort to type no thank you. if i’m selling something i’ll listen to any offer. why take a buyer out of the sell? everyone is looking for the best deal possible. i don’t know anybody that would just say ok i’ll pay asking prices always.
Trogoly not giving the full story just playing victim , probably was disrespectful .
Satanic Panic Fun and Games i see, when you put it that way i can understand it alot better. it is hard to get a good deal on a good les paul anymore.
@Satanic Panic Fun and Games I fucking hate guitar dealers. I watch Trogly because I like seeing the Les Pauls, but it turns my stomach thinking about people who buy, sell, and collect them like chattel. It's disgusting- They're instruments, not fine art or commodities.
Aesthetic Deluxe but... they are art?... they... ARE commodities?...
I mean... some guitars from fender and Gibson are called “art show guitars”... cause their made to be.. art?
Maybe this is reverse psychology to get you to feature him and get him more exposure
That's actually quite clever, free promotion. hope we get answers. love internet mysterys
Big brain
Played right into that😅 dude just got a buncha exposure for his listings
@@infinidominion , lol,yeah!
Kinda weird someone would put that in every listing.
🤔🤔🤔
I’m actually early for once. Love your videos I’ve been binging them the past 4 weeks
He got you, By him saying Not the Trogly guy, You gave him an Advert ...
I learn more and more each day watching his show - please keep it going
The headstock on the Gibson 20/20 looks like the ones on the Cigar Box Guitars I build... The Dude Abides.
Well that's just like.... Your opinion man.
That program you are looking for is called a notepad. They come in white and yellow
Wow that was a smart ass remark man really?
I just want to say thanks for this escape daily! Thanks bro!
Hell yeah. Two uploads a day would be great!
Good luck with all the hiring stuff btw
Love this video format.
Thank you, Trogly! I’m an Emergency Department worker during this Covid-19 pandemic. Your videos are my refuge and excitement after a hard and frightening shift at work. I’m addicted to your channel. You are my stress relief! Thank you, sir!!! 💚🎸💪🏻
"Frightening" get a fucking grip lmao
Loving the channel and could handle 2 uploads a day.. 🎸 A big thanks.. And keep them coming... 🎸 🇬🇧👍
I always learn something from you Austin. Employing someone might be a good idea, as you can give that person, part of the workload, and you can concentrate on other aspects of the business.
You're the nicest guy in guitar-geek-world! Always kind & helpful.
Yeah right, he's helpful, if you pay him.
@@theburkett67 I wouldn't want to be an expert on something, only to have people bombard me with questions all day, demanding that I reply for free. This is his job man, let him make some money from it.
I had an Aria Pro II "Les Paul" - it was extremely well built, but a little on the heavy side. The pickups were a bit hotter than I like as my playing style is usually pretty clean.
I love the fender behind you 💕🤗
Don't let that guy bum you out Austin, I've dealt w ppl who will refuse a sale if they think the buyer will resell it at a profit.
A real Ace Les Paul won't have a neck pickup. Its where the smoke bomb goes for Shock Me.
When I used to sell on Reverb regularly, every time I used to post anything I had 2 separate guitar dealers offer me 1/2 or less of what I was asking. It annoyed me at 1st and thought that was rude and I hated those lazy bottom feeders who were just not good at what they do so they resort to non serious old school pawn shop "mega low ball" tactics in hopes of finding someone desperate or stupid enough to take the offer. but I looked at it as entertainment and thought it was funny and actually looked forward to bottom feeder's offers, it reminded my of why I never sold or traded at guitar stores. I bought and sold musical instruments as a supplementary income for 20+ years but too many people jumped in so I just bought and sold for me. I also play in bands and would help out other musicians. Maybe he was insulted by a low ball offer, I can understand why he hated you, the low ball stuff does get old and it is annoying. When I got something for cheap, I passed it on cheap but only if it was to another musician, never to a dealer.
Hate is kinda a strong word, but yeah I think you just nailed it..if Austin has ever dealt with him before, Trogly on many occasions tells sellers to try to sell it themselves so no, no it could also be he is a scam or he he doesn't like Austin for reasons we don't know.
I stayed up just to be early, finally made it👍🏻🤘🏻
this is one of my favorite channels tbh. i wish i could have gotten that 88 sunburst O_O
Trogly is the Mr Rogers of guitars.
There is a third more obscure option for the Les Paul Jrs.
Gibson made a limited edition of almost historic specification double cut Jrs in the late 90’s for a dealer in Japan.
I bought one in Hong Kong from a store that sold Japan market products.
Plus yes, Aria Pro II PE series were a big deal at least in the U.K. in the early ‘80’s. Gerry Cott from The Boomtown Rats had a signature model.
I'd love your take on what to look for When buying a fender for increasing value. I know pre CBS is the main one but any tips on later models? Artist series perhaps?
10:51 hey, that's pretty cool. Didn't know that you were going to use our conversation in a video. Thanks for the nice words
I would not even consider buying a Les Paul without hiring your expertise !!!!
As usual thank you very much for schooling us !!
I got my Spark two weeks ago and it is incredible !!!! It took 5-6 mos. To get it but well worth the wait !!!!
He doesn't know all that much. He's a youtube entertainer. That's it
Austin, have you reviewed the 2020 Gibson standard 50s and 60s yet? I just bought the 50s tobacco burst, at a reduced price, as the owner only had it 5 days. I love it. QC has gone up considerably.
The Aria from the Matsumoku Japan were very desirable. The 82 Basses were usually neck through.. Later MIK production with Samick and Vantage in the 90s you'll see similar headstocks. That Aria was really nice.
Yeah I've talked to people at random who were just mind set not a fan to say the least.. Confused me.
David Murray Holland my daily driver is an aria pro II explorer in sea foam burst. Killer guitar, a real player :)
I have a 12 string acoustic, "Arianna" japan, late 60s early 70s, not worth a dime but I like it!
The Aria Pro PE-60 reminds me more of a Yamaha Weddington in terms of body lines and radii. They were a pretty popular Les Paul alternative in the early/ mid 90's. I'd suggest checking them out if this body style appeals. There's usually a few available used in the US.
Aria PE's of the 80's were very good guitars.
For some reason I generally visualize the backyard scientist guy when I hear your voice, so it is weird watching a video where I see you for most of it. Also, that is a beautiful guitar there behind you. I love the Antigua guitars.
That blueberry burst is incredibly beautiful.
The EVH Wolfgang/Stealth has the serial number on the side of the headstock also.
Maybe they got the idea from Gibson 🤔
Trogly review the epiphone goth les paul!!
Hi Trogly. Think the channel is a great source of information and really entertaining. Have you ever been tempted to document a Tokai love rock? MIJ or MIC . I would love to know you opinions on them.
I would love to see you review a Les Paul Standard Double Cut!
Maaaan I would love a double trog review daily!
I really dig those sunburst monitors!
I had one of those aria pro II's in black. It was my first real guitar. You can often find them in pawn shops for cheap
TWO uploads a day!! Hire that assistant Austin!!! 🤘
Would you be willing to do a video on different vibrato options for Les Pauls? I can really only come up with a few and even less with side by side comparisons.
Hey, just to point out another difference between Gibson Custom and USA. Usually the frets on the Gibson Custom have a more rounded profile, whereas the USA have more trapeze with rounded edges shape, sometimes referred to as school bus frets.
Thanks for mentioning me in vlog I, meant to write sigma by Martin SBB2-8 but the photo was correct.
I buy a lot of used guitars in Mexico and I've found a few surprises now and then, make sure to ask for a bunch of pictures before deciding buy
...Trog , not sure why anyone would hate you ... you're one of the nicest most positive and honest you tubers going.... some people jst hate the world ...ps myself and the wife both , love watching your channel ..and she knows very little about guitars... actually she works for a TV station ...and I'm semi retired ...would be great if we lived closer ...I could maybe do some part time work for you .... anywho keep doing what you do..... again , great channel
Awesome videos!
Is that a baritone headmaster I see in the background? Can't wait to see a video on that one
Hi Ian,
You won the meloaudio giveaway - please email me your address - austin@troglysguitarshow.com
I was going to buy one of those Spark amps to keep me sane during these isolation days but now thinking the hassle probably would have the opposite effect. I'll wait till they catch up on orders, even if I lose the pre-order savings...
If you ever get anything in the 50 to 100 dollar range, let me know, i'm trying to get a project guitar for me and my grandfather (Who's in his late 70s) to either build or modify, nothing too fancy, but just something i can make or modify the crap out of, or rebuild with him as something sentimental, When i was a kid, he'd repair my guitars for me and we'd build toys and chairs and stuff in his garage, he was an electrician and a wood worker, since he's gotten older, he dosnt do much wood working or electronic stuff anymore, but says he'd do it one more time for me if i brought him a project..
IDK if you read any of this or not, but thanks for reading this, i've been watching your show for 3 years now and i'm always excited to see what stuff you are reviewing :)
Well, the problem is Josh, that Mr. Big Wig Troglodyte charges people $10-30 to answer a question, so it's doubtful he will answer even if he reads the comments, he's special like that. Besides, a guitar in the $50 to $100 dollar range would be beneath The Big Trog. If I were you I'd check your local OfferUp or Craigslist, you will surely be able to find something there.
@@theburkett67 What are some good Kit Guitar brands you recommend? i'm looking to build a telecaster style?
@@joshwizinsky1979 Well, there are a bunch of companies out there now days that make guitars kits, and honestly I have never bought a kit. If you wanted to spend a bit more on your guitar, I would recommend Warmoth. You can find them online. They are here in America, and I have had the privilege of owning one that someone else built. Excellent craftsmanship.
Josh Wizinsky Check the Thomann website for Harley Benton guitars. They’re really cheap and have good reviews.
Trogy. Aria's are under rated guitars. The ones from the 70s and earlier 80s play well and are very well done. Like any guitar, the original pickups were definitely different and well done, but depending on the model, arent for everyone.
What's with the fender shirt? LOL just kidding
Wow that blueberry looks fantastic
I own a Fernandez Monterey and that Aria Pro has the exact same shape or super close anyway.
Schon played PE's for a time. They are great and the top of the line model is really a great guitar.
what is that guitar in the background?
Aria made such a wide range of guitars, I’ve seen them everywhere from real cheap-o kids guitars up to some really nice quality instruments.
9:53 For this who may not know - what you need to do to view a sold item's original listing when Reverb.com redirects you like this, is to:
Take the redirect URL (which in this case for this item is www.reverb.com/p/gibson-les-paul-standard-1986-1989?ended_listing=32095236), and edit it so that it looks like this:
www.reverb.com/item/32095236?show_sold=true
or
www.reverb.com/item/32095236-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-1988-Sunburst?show_sold=true
These are the URLs of an item listing that is live for sale, but with ?show_sold=true added onto the end. This way you can see the original listing of an item that is sold. Sometimes you won't have to do this anyway because it will just work, but other times it will redirect you.
I have an early 80s Aria PER 80 - they are phenomenal - built like tanks, super heavy, amazing sweet tone and everyone I know who plays it is astonished - not really your thing but you should have a look.
Whats up with the squier antigua baritone? Is it going to be for sale?
If you hire someone, put them to work straightening up your basement, 'cause... damn!
Aria instruments are very nice! exceedingly high quality for the price
Welcome back ..... to the jungle baby!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I had a custom shop tv yellow single pickup junior and it was one of the most beautifully made guitars in all aspects. Color, super fat neck, case, small details etc. BUT it was the most uninspiring guitars amplified I ever had. I also had a cheap special, and it sounded better. $600 used vs $3299 new for the custom shop ones. I’d hesitate to buy one I played as mine, as wonderful as it looked, it was a disappointing player. You never know once they come together.
I also have one of those rose gold guitar center SGs, and despite the thicker nitro finish,it’s the best SG I’ve ever had and played. You never know.
Hi ya Trogly’s,
Have you checked out the new 2020 ultra Strat from fender in mocha burst yet?
I did the Texas Tea one ua-cam.com/video/qFXw1Sc6Skc/v-deo.html
Could you please do a review of the new Epipihone Firebird V inspired by Gibson? Or write what you think about it?
What would you say are the worst years for gibson to try and avoid in the used market?
I have that same aria in a lefty. It's a great guitar. Definitely worth the $500
I've seen those Aria PE's go for as high as 2000 €, and their highest iteration might as well be worth that price if you look how they have been built. Go through some old Aria catalogues. Great LP alternatives, and perhaps cheaper to have than Ibanez or Greco guitars from that era.
9:57 - how do you actually watch the product page of sold listings on reverb? sometimes when it is in your watch list you can still access the sold listings page, but other times it will just tell you that the listings has sold and you can't access the page anymore - so... is there a workaround for that?
Sometimes you can get around it by playing with the URL
Would really like to see a review on a Gibson Jimmy Page Black Beauty if you ever come across one.
If he resorts to something like that I don’t think he’s the kinda person you wanna do business with.
HEY YOU ...PLEASE READ THIS ...PRETTY PLEASE :D does anyone know if the squire supersonic was ever released left handed..even the righty is rare so i'm not holding out much hope...i have tried to research if it was released as a lefty to no avail.(the only thing i culd find is Omar R Lopez uses a lefty one apparently).if anybody has any info the help would be greatly appreciated
Ill look into it bub ok
I would love 2 uploads a day!
Your reference to the USA vs Custom Shop difference in quality, feel etc is accurate. I have some Custom Shop guitars and have sold off much of my "regular" USA Gibsons. Like when I played my 2016 Gibson les paul Traditional for example, it just made want to play my Historics so I've sold off a few "regular" USA SGs and Les Pauls. It's actually a nice feeling selling off three "regular" Gibsons and using that to buy a Historic. Completely worth it .... 150%
How do you like the Gibson studio monitors?
I don't really use them. They make nice backdrop though
Hi Trogly,
Thank you very much for the $10 in reverb bucks.
Best wishes from Poland in these hard times!
enjoy it!
Aldo Nova oh and that p90 r9
I had a 2015 LP Jr, worst guitar I ever owned. Sold it and bought a tele.
Good move. Those 2015s with the scirrbles on the headstock are terrible
Lord & BeepBeep I'm intrigued, would you let us know what your experience was with the '15 please?
I'm having an admiration/frustration affair with my '13 SG. It can sound so good, yet is so unreliable in tuning and stability. It just doesn't get much amp time. The Tele sure does though.
(edit: Huh, "Lord & Beepbeep" might make a good name.)
Riverdeepnwide - you may need a replacement nut, if not cut just right it catches the strings and pulls the guitar out of tune. The bridge saddles can also cause binding.
Good job on buying a Tele to replace it. That's what everyone who owns a gibson should do IMO. For me the telecaster is the one best style of guitar ever made. They don't have neck dive like all those SGs, they don't have headstocks that break off, they stay in tune and most importantly they don't have the Gibson name on them so you can get much better prices on them, especially with those made in Mexico. Also there's nothing wrong with buying a squier Telecaster because, in contrast to those new epiphone guitars, my squier actually has frets that are cut and sanded correctly so they don't buzz.
Had a 2015 les paul special and I almost slammed it into a wall because 60 cycle hum from hell even without any gain. The store who had sold it said "its suposed to sound like that and its nothing wrong with it" so I told them "great then you can buy it back from me since you say that its nothing wrong with it" the guy went really quiet at that time and I got to trade it for a PRS se custom 24.
Would love the spark amp myself but the delay in postage and the fact I live in the UK puts me off
I'm getting one period
Maybe because when you are a flipper in any given area it gets really annoying really fast when another flipper starts trying to thread needles on your margins to get themselves the payoff. It's something more though, or he would just put a blanket statement about flippers.
Yeah! I'd hate to see this shit catch on and it hurt Austin's business though not cool!
Hates being called a Troglodyte, not sure I blame him.
Indeed, I don't understand why the guy insults his viewers like that. Then again, the viewers stick around. Calling a spade a spade? 😂🤣
No, we like guitars that's why.
Well he isn't one and that is some really stupid shit wow!
Is no one going to mention the antigua jazzmaster in the background? Looks like it’s even the Squire baritone version too.
I was looking for a comment about it. I’m over here eyeballing it like. 😳
I have that one, I love it!
I got an E-Mail from Positive Grid (yesterday). They are now saying that they are producing 1,000 a day now and mine should arrive sometime in mid to late April.........I have been waiting so long for this.......fingers crossed!.....:)
I've cancelled my order, they provided a full refund. They told me April/May.
I got mine a few months ago. Love it. Sorry to hear about the huge back log. Such a bummer. I feel blessed to have gotten mine so quick.
Place ad at Local College and can not only find yourself a Web Person to help but grab a Player for reviews and can actually find 3 well organized people can do the work of 5
The iceberg bass is sick.
Dude please review Gibson les paul MIII with HSH pickups
I played an Aria LP, and it was purdy nice, i must say.
I had an ARIA J-200 in the 70s, very nice guitar.
The guy in Mexico was the one who sold you the Trogly Show mascot.
I'm currently dealing with my first bad apple on reverb. I bought an amp from a custom amp maker (it was already built and listed for a few weeks). At first he guy was super nice, but after i bought the amp he seemed like he was in no hurry to ship the product. After he informed he wouldnt be shipping the item until 4 days later, i asked for a refund via message and initiated one on the site.
instead of just apologizing and trying to make things right, he proceed to curse at me and deny the refund. I filed a ticket with reverb to get them to facilitate the refund.
I could only speak for myself, but if I sold guitars on Reverb, I couldn't care less what they do with what I sold them because it's theirs now. If they found a way to make some money for themselves with it, good for them.
Does anybody has bought a guitar from custom shopcenter. a guitar store from China I need some info before buying thanks
Haha, he's your anti-fan club guy on Reverb!!
Well definitely learned you are a busy guy!
Aria has bee building that body style for decades. Generally well built, good players.
