An 1995 Epiphone Nighthawk is a big dream of mine. Uncle used to play it before he passed.
The price of a used guitar at Guitar Center is dependent on how much the STORE that bought the guitar paid for it. If GC take a loss on a used guitar that comes out the stores budget so they aren't inclined to offer a "fair market value" even if they know a guitar is overpriced. A manager is technically supposed to approve all prices but in practice GC has brand new employees who aren't familiar with the guitar market doing the buy-ins.
Well, in my book, this was a cool episode. And is I had the money to spend 3k on a guitar, I would never buy a butchered one.
I wouldn't call it butchered. It has an added pick up. I can't wait to see how this one sounds.
LP lo la lol l-hb@mmm
It's like a reverse pickup configuration of Pete Townsend's #5 Les Paul from the 1970's.
It's what intrigues me about the guitar.
My dream LP is a Koa top Custom. But There are Schecters I want more. If I had a stupid amount of money, Schecter Custom Shop versions of several: baritone C-VI in blue or green trans, C-4 EX Apocalypse bass with Koa top, and Apocalypse Baritone with Koa top.
To also answer the question at the end, yes! I have the guitar I always coveted, a heritage cherry LP Standard with a flame top. I settled for too many LP Studios (also great playing and sounding guitars) in my years of playing. When I had the chance to own a Standard at the price I was comfortable with I pounced! I’d advise anyone to do the same when that dream guitar comes along. You might be broke for a bit, but that’s temporary. That dream axe is for life👍
Work for gc. This was my guy, knew about it a few days ago. Maybe he'll see this
My dream Les Paul will be my first Les Paul. I haven't got it yet, but I am looking, and I have my fingers crossed. Have a good day.
Hey, that's my dream Les Paul too!
It's an inversion of Townshend's 70s Les Pauls with one humbucker between 2 mini humbuckers
79 Tokai LS150 Les Paul Reborn CSB 8lbs to 8.5LBS
Thanks for keeping the lights on.
Austin, the bridge on that 2006 LPC is not backwards. Generally you want the intonation screws to face the neck to keep them out of the way of the strings after they pass over the saddle to the stoptail. Facing the neck also makes it easier to adjust intonation with a small screwdriver.
My guess is looking at it being top wrapped and with the high action it had it's been used with extra heavy stings. Which basically grind the frets down.
The reason for the mini humbucker is that it is actually a Firebird PU. A 'real mini HB has a single magnet across the base of both coils. A Firebird has two magnets on their edge ...one each right inside each coil. It makes the PU sound very, very close to a single coil with obviously no hum. It is a briant choice for a 3rd PU. Personally I think it is the best choice fora neck PU if you use a lot of distortion. You can set the distortion up so the neck sounds really fat and then when you switch to the neck PU it is not muddy.
Two dream Les Pauls for me: an original 1952 Goldtop and an Artisan.
Ask them for a new black pickguard as well so you can get the mini-hum cut out done from a qualified professional.
That cut in the pickguard looks like it was done with a water jet, that makes the thid pickup a factory install. As for the addtl wiring, and soldering? I think the quality of wire used indicated the same as the pick-guard cutaway, factory done. Soldering having been 3rd party repaired. Factory soldering from that era, call me tomorrow evening repair, is not unheard of. I say the price isn't necessarily the issue, it's the lack of hard case. Which case the price is fine, without yeah, it needs to drop down into the mid-to-high $2,000 range.
I like this new series. Good guy advice from an experienced seller.
Depends on how it sounds and plays. I've been in a guitar shop where I found a modified vintage Fender that I just had to have, but couldn't haggle it down to much. At that point it's a matter of how much you want that guitar. In the end I paid a premium, but it's a great guitar. Luckily prices have gone up considerably for that model, so in the end I can make my money back easily.
100% agree, sometimes a guitar is just fantastic despite being modified or changed.
When you find a guitar that fits you well it is very difficult to walk away from it.
just route it out a bit more and do 3 humbuckers like a 57 black beauty more tone options and looks more factory and probly a biger market
Cool episode Austin 🙏😈🤘🎸
Trog, have you seen the white Les Paul Artisan that just showed up on Reverb? Might be worth a look.
If that Middle Firebird pickup is RW/RP then you could blend in an out of phase tone, very useful and really a pretty nice option.
I've never seen the white Artisan you mentioned, wow.
My dream guitar is a relic M2M R4 Custom I found for sale. It is basically a cream 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue, so pretty.
I bet that thing has some great sounds in it and really be versatile. Firebird pickups actually sound more like a fat single coil than the minis in a Deluxe so sound wise it’s nearly like a having a over wound Tele bridge pickup in the middle.
Great video fella and hello from wales
I was literally just looking at this on facebook haha
Dream lespaul I'd like to own is Slash
Flamed maple, clear with a floyd rose. I've wanted one of those since I saw neal schon,Brad Gillis have one.
I might be able to pick up one of those epi les paul that came out about 5 years ago. Cheers
I own an '57 Les Paul black beauty and an '58 standard, but my goal is an ' 74 custom in white! Love that one!
I’ve been thinking about buying an MIJ Telecaster. It seems most of the ones on Reverb from Japan are very good deals, even when calculating shipping. What other fees do I need to factor in when making that buying decision?
can u do an episode about epiphone casino?
I use the middle mini-hum position on my St Vincent all the time. It's the best tone in that guitar, which has a ton of cool tones.
Funny enough that LPC is at my local Guitar Center and I’ve played it! I thought it was the weirdest thing with the firebird pickup. I had the same reaction about the price! It’s on the heavy side and the pots were scratchy. Sounded good though. Crazy guitar lol!
i want another M3 LP in trans blue .. i sold mine years ago , so much regret.. thanks for showing a pic of one during this vid..
i like the middle pickup, it probably lets you get some sounds like a PRS Special 22 which is a guitar ive been drooling over for awhile
Was that " under my thumb" that guy was playing. Yes I do have a dream Les Paul I'd love to own. It doesn't just exist in my dreams. It was if I recall correctly a 76 possibly studio not sure . Carved top humbucker at bridge and neck. No scratch plate and a deep dark blue. Don't think it was quilted I believe it was two piece flame maple. Looked almost black in low light but shimmered a deep rich blue in a spot light. I think I was told it had metal dust not flake which gave it a smooth unbroken look like flake would.
Thanks, that's it. I was thinking Buckingham-era F. Mac... but that's more accurate I think.
I did not know that Les Paul Customs were from the custom shop...I thought they were just regular production models...hmmm...i learn something every time i watch the Trogster!!!
I need to see this Aldo Nova LP!
Why is the binding on the cutaway always thicker than normal? If you look close, 2:37 the binding is actually thick, but it’s just been painted over. My 2014 LP Traditional’s cutaway is thick, but painted over just like this one.
2AM Gang!!
8AM Gang here
Thats real... I love it!
Nice
I would love to own a Gibson 74/75 Les Paul Deluxe Blue or Red Sparkle finish i saw the blue that you reviewed i fell in love with it even more
@@CaptainCraigKWMRZ Nice choice Im very interested in seeing those kinds of 70s les paul up close
Interesting configuration but I'm not sure the pickguard is original. Maybe someone else will correct me if I'm wrong but doesnt the color of the ply seem inconsistently white compared to the rest of the binding on the guitar which has aged almost a cream color against the red? And because of the extra layers of binding on the guitar one might assume the original would have had 5 ply instead of 4? Perhaps not but I think if I were going to mod this into a "Red Beauty" a 5 ply black/cream pickguard cut correctly would look nice.
My dream Les Paul (right now) is an R4. Wraptail. P90s. Maple top. Glorious. This combination seems pretty rare outside of spending $4k+. Not huge into Gold tops and the price tag is pretty insane, but I love everything else about it.
I also have this idea of an R4 that has a Humbucker in the bridge location. Maybe with a dark back like some of the later gold tops. Also toyed with the idea of a black or Oxblood top instead of gold. So sort of like a Jeff Beck '54, but with the p90 still in the neck. I suppose if I really wanted to do this, I could heavily modify a Tribute and refinish it. But that almost doesn't seem worth the time, money, effort and lost value in any instrument I would modify.
If I had the money I’d pay the asking price with or with out the case I’m in love with that Les Paul
I have a 1983 LP Custom with a 3 piece plain top that is absolutely amazing. I could never understand why people hated on this era of Gibson. Every 80’s Gibson I’ve played has been fantastic.
When i see the picture from below, it seems the cutaway curve is not what I expect of a Les Paul. Am I too suspicious?
It's more like a feeling, that I also have when the toggle switch is off centre at some other LP model inspired brands.
My dream les paul is the reissue signature jeff beck lespaul with the oxblood finish....!!!!😍😍😍
So it looks like the low E, B, and especially high E tuners are crooked. (Actually, the more I look at it, it might be the low A, but at least three of the tuners are crooked, I am not sure which.) Is this normal for a Gibson? I have seen some incredibly sloppy work come out of Gibson, but what about putting the tuners on crooked?
Hey man! I´m from Argentina, I randomly foud your channel and I´m really enjoying it. Maybe you also should do a video about pedals, hunting good offers on Reverb and ginving you opinion about brands.
Cheers
The "Italian" wine red custom has a neck repair…. and I would not trust too much in how was repaired as the paint is not even on the crack...
Dream LP would be a 78 KM. Shoulda jumped on one last year. Those prices have gotten crazy in the last year. Saw a couple for $2800 last year. The only one I have seen this year are $4500+. Yikes!
Good choice, you can't go wrong with any of the Kalamazoo made Les Paul guitars.
The KMs are pretty crazy in their prices. However any Kalamazoo Les Paul would be nice.
Would love to have a 70's custom in black.
Anyone know when the ‘59 Les Paul bundle from Epiphone is coming out?
Thanks for the vlog Austin. Interesting guitar but yes it’s overpriced for what it is.
The white lp artisan looked sweet
of all the lp's id like to own , there was a studio 120th anniversary at a shop that i go to a fair bit. and it was this weird chocolate brown satin colour with caramel coloured pickguard. something about it spoke out to me... shoulda bought it haha
My dream Les Paul is a 2000 Millennium White Diamond Sparkle Standard (to find one in perfect condition, of course).
6:18 wow, I’ve never seen so much extra E string on the post. Weird.
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!........very early!
It seems that almost every time you add in someone else's playing demo there is a good bit of static in the audio.
My "dream Les Paul" would be a Les Paul Custom 1977 (birth year) with heritage cherry sunburst, Kluson styled tuners and "fretless wonder" styled modification (low frets) and PAF styled pups
Kind of a reverse of Pete Townsend’s Deluxe with the full size humbucker in the middle!
I've never been so early!
A dream Les Paul? Probably just a standard Les Paul Custom black beauty with gold hardware. I might snag one from Epiphone some day and pocket the rest for the next ngd
My dream Les Paul is a 1975 Custom or actually 1975 Gibson anything & everything since that's the year I was born!
Austin, how are you still using the old facebook layout? I miss it a lot, the new one looks just terrible
See the dark blue arrow(triangle) pointing down in the upper right on your FB in the blue bar? Click it, the option is there.
When I was working for gc, we would by gibsons( at least a my store) for 60% of what we would sell it for
Please review the Aldo Nova LP......🤞🤞🤞. Please, please, please???
As an EX manager of GC's guitar dept dont pay sticker prices..as for used gear they have a ton of room to haggle..at least early to mid 2000's is when I worked for them..but i will say GC will be reasonable if you know what your talking about...and yes we always would rather throw in a case, picks, strings a stand or whatever to close the deal.wed try to stay as close to the price as possible..my suggestion arm yourself with knowledge about your item before you haggle.they don't want you to walk out without it
Any suggestions as to a reasonable percentage to haggle down to?
I love interesting mods. I'd probably pay 2400 - 2800 shipped for that Custom
My holy-grail Les Paul is a 1956 gold-top.
Not a red fan but it’s slick
Since it's already been hacked, I'd add in a vintage correct full size humbucker instead of the odd looking mini one.
Gonna cheat with the holy grail LP and say a Gibson SB300. Going off the thing that SGs used to be LPs.
I wouldn't give GC more than $2,500 without a case.
I'd rather add a P90 to the middle position. I'd also use my CNC vertical mill, in manual mode, to cut the body and pick guard to extremely exact and precise geometry.
Just my opinion, but I'm not paying $1200 for that.
Right tools for the job, wise words.
@@dommadonia9207 I've made my living making an inefficient process efficient, safe, accurate, reliable, and teaching people how to not make the same mistakes.
Guitar center should tell customers about mods I got a fender 57 reissue I was told was all original when I got it two pickups and 3 way switch were changed I was also told it had the original case which it didn’t even come with any case
Really the les paul id like to own that isnt a holy grail 59 would be a black beauty custom. Black beauties have a spot in my heart even tho ive never owned one ive have come very close several times to getting a black beauty
Cool series idea, helping Facebook followers with identifying possibly fake guitars before buying them
I've found GC's Used Prices are basically ALL about 20-30% too high. But I just hunt once a month or so, so could be out of wack.
For my dream lp, I actually gotta give it either to a Buckethead baritone or, believe it or not, one of the new Epiphone lp Prophecy models, cause iirc, those babies have fishman fluence moderns. That's a way to sell me on an axe in an instant, from a company like Epiphone
Can you give us a tab for your intro
Trogg buy a custom shop Fender strat and investigate the pros and cons
i.LOVE this! I have 3 pickup one in black thays a 1999 epiphone from Korea an it's by far the best epiphone I ever played I had to have it .I've owned it for a few yrs now an all honestly it plays same if not better than my gibson standard pretty much the same as my black Gibson custom 2 pickup so what I'm saying is there's jus somthing special about all 3 pick up les puals from Gibson companies .I would love love love this guitar to gig with.i would pay 3500 for that easy .lol also guitar center wouldn't drop 100 dollars let alone 1200 my man.maybe for u but even some one like me who has purchased about 15 20 guitars, 3 half stacks an a few solid state amps from them let alone a bunch of pedals an random shit from them still wouldn't give me anymore than 85 bucks..,so I sont think they would budge on that guitar..ha. oh .Corprate center when will u learn.lol
2nd to last
Ok, question: I got an Epiphone Black Beauty LP from a different guitar shop called GuitarWorks, who wanted around 1200 total for it (mom got it for 900 since it was my birthday), and I've seen them on reverb listed at 750 new. Do you think my mom overpaid?
You answered your own question.
Probably, but your mom did the best she could and she got that guitar for you because she loves you and that's all that you should be concerned with. You have a pretty great mom.
If you have a white artisan I want it
I tried to buy an old Marshall JCM, that had a weird cosmetic modification that was not factory and brought them to documentation from Marshall that this was an aftermarket mod and they refused to haggle the overpriced nature of the amp and gave an excuse that resales on used equipment comes directly from the corporate office and they weren’t allowed to change the price at all. They did not care at all that I had proof from Marshall calling them out on the lie that it was a rare factory piece. The store manager refused my documentation, refused to price it correctly and refused to sell it to me. Even after refusing me, they did not correct the description and sold it to another person as a rare Marshall.
Yup. Guitar Center.
Seriously though, if it was custom shop no way would the pick guard be hacked out like that
What happened to this channel? Used to be so many demos and great guitar info.....now we get 1 demo a week and a bunch of videos about guitars on reverb and elsewhere online?!
Sire Trogley. The guitar in this video is/will be mine. Please contact me if you would like more info on it. THANX for the video response too !!!!!!
You can buy a new black VOS LPC for $3999
Last!
Spidermaaaaamnnnnn
Damn the Les Paul I'm getting is $200 plus it's a Epiphone if I had rich parents I would get a B.C.Rich Ironbird
Epiphone makes a solid product too.
Best thing to do with that guitar is rout it out and put a regular humbucker in there. At least 3 humbuckers is a real thing. That shit looks goofy with that mini humbucker in there.
It's like a Pete Townshend with the pickup styles reversed
Would have still been too much money if it was all original imo. I really like that finish but everyone knows a refret hurts the value & even if you don't change anything on the actual guitar itself, you never get your money back on mods (even if they improve the tone). People want original spec on their Gibsons.
Who owns a custom shop LP with no case?
