Thank for the video . My first car was 64 Malibu SS . 4 speed . It was a blast to drive . Man this brings back memories . Imagine this at 16 ! I remember laying rubber down in all 4 gears many times . We changed the flywheel out to 9 inch and made a big difference when running through the gears .
Same here with a 283/220 hp. Pretty strong but lacked that “kick ass” speed. Replaced many a clutch & blew the engine once. Next car was a ‘70 Chevelle SS396. Now that car was a Beast!
Beautiful. Good of you to wear that lap belt on that bench seat. I wrecked my 72’ when I went around a curve fast and slid all the way over into the passenger side of the bench. I still had one hand on the wheel as I slid over and I pulled the wheel too far which turned the car way to the left and I hit a concrete light pole. I was so embarrassed when the police showed up. I had to pay for that light pole.
Damn, does this car bring back memories or what ? Bought a used 64 Chevelle 2 door hardtop back in 70 with a 6 cyl, 3 speed stick. A few months later, the Chevelle was sporting a complete [and additional built] 68-302 Z 28 motor, Pontiac Muncie 4 speed and a 66 GTO posi 3.90 gear rear. Hooker headers with a complete exhaust behind the rear wheels. Painted 68 Caddy Nottingham Green (emerald green). Car originally silver. Fun car to drive for 10 years and quick cause it was so light ! Surprised a lot of drivers on the street. Sold the car less engine in 1980 (stuck in a 30 over 327 , sold the Z motor separately). Can't tell you how many times I wished I had kept this car [but it was many] !

Well, just like a bunch of morons after practice 4 or 5 guys wanted her to give them a lift up the road so they hopped up on the trunk as she was backing out. Knowing her husband would be mad if he knew they were sitting on his car, She told them to get off, those old blue jeans with their rivets in the pockets, digging into the paint. Sounds like a great car, man! I had the same thing happen to my headliner too. I pulled it all out around the time I made this video, but I still have put the new one in yet ugh
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it. It really is a ripper. Check out the video I most recently posted. There’s one clip of basically just redlining it through 1st and 2nd.
Super nice Chevelle bro. Reminds me of my dad's 65 SS he had. 327 4spd 12 bolt. He had a dual 4 max wedge old school intake that I have yet to find another like it. That back on red is real sharp
He had several good cars. This was Vietnam Era where malibus and goats and 442's were all around. He told me he paid 1500 for my uncle Jim's 66 SS chevelle 396 4spd. I just about fell out of the chair. He flew from Oakland/Hayward to Florida and picked it up and drove it all the way back to California. Along the way is when he picked up that 65 Malibu SS. I've got pics of all his cars and stuff. It's truly something
Sounds like it never gets over 3500 rpm. That's a great head and cam selection. I would like to see the torque spread on the Dyno. I bet it makes 500+ pounds from 2k and holds it to the top

I miss my 64 chevelle ss. Body was mint original never cut on solid car. I did a second repaint on it deep Marrone with black interior. The motor was gone when i found the body in a garage for 28 years. I buit up a high nickel 400 s.b.c into a 406 with a nice cam. Car was auto factory so did not go with a m22 i went with a 3 speed auto tci trans. Had a bulit 12 bolt rear end and a eaton posi unit. And a full stainless exhaust and borla mufflers. It had a very nice deep tone to it. And she would fly! I made a very bad choice i kept my title stamped open but in my safe for if i ever died my kids did not have to go through legal crap. My now ex got it out of my safe when on vacation put her name in the buyer area and sold it for 20k. I could not do anything!!! Guy she sold it to would not sell it back to me but did sayif he sold it he take 45k. Still see my car all the time at shows and drive around. But anyway nice car Brother
I’m confused - I guess I’ve only seen 70’s Chevelle’s, I always remember them looking like longer Camaro’s, this one looks like an Impala or a Malibu and I see the Malibu emblem on the dash - what gives? I love how you get you whole body into the shifts - I do the same in my Honda lol
@@joeymcquilkin3670 this is the first year of the Chevelle, 1964. 64 and 65 were small cars. The Chevelle started taking its bigger and more hotrod shape in 66+
Niiiiiice! VERY AMERICAN. I've driven a lot of these cars with big block power - and my advice is a little smaller and much heavier steering wheel and a lot faster ratio power steering with a lot less power assist. Makes it easier to keep the front end ahead of the back end when you have a little too much tire slippage. It's way too easy to wind up in a ditch without these tweaks (ask me how I know)
Thanks Patrick! A wise suggestion. It does have an upgraded quick ratio steering box. However I can’t bring myself to change the factory wood wheel, like it too much!!!
@@leojt9423 High powered stick transmission cars should be able to instantly be steered lock to lock with just the left hand and arm. I pretty much kept the affordable blown big block Early A Body thing alive in KC since the late 70s. I've totalled a half dozen cars like yours (to be fair I usually took less valuable 4 doors and made "shorty" and "dachshund" 2 doors out of them) and only advise you out of concern watching you saw the wheel at parking-lot speeds, Do as you wish.

Motor sounds really good. Are you at 500hp ? Your 5 speed sounded like you didn't really hook up until 3rd and just feathering the gas. Would you go to something like M22 ?, Also what rear gear do you have ? I love your car.
Thank you! I would guess closer to 600 crank, 500’s to the tires. I can’t fit bigger than 255 width tires on it right now it doesn’t really “hook” mostly just roasts! It’s actually the stock 10bolt 3.36 rear end with an Eaton LSD. The M22 is a great trans, but probably wouldn’t stand the torque of a hot big block. Also no overdrive!

I have a 64 chevelle SS, tucked into end of garage waiting until I finish a 63 chevy II, 5.3 alum block for the chevy II, but l'm leaning towards old school big block to the 64
very nice car, something to aim towards to see yours
Thank you!! Best of luck in your builds!
Sweet I could watch you drive around all day sounds sooo good 👌✌️
I had a 67 Chevrolet 396/375 hp back in the day it was a beast, now days theses new cars will leave it sitting still
It’s true, new car technology is pretty crazy. Your modern V6 Camry leaves most classic stock hot rods in the dust!
@ yea that’s true my wife’s Camry will out run the 74 z28 Camaro I had
@@treerobo6864 crazy times, man!
@ it sure is but you have a beautiful cool ride that they don’t make anymore
@@treerobo6864 thank you!
Sweet car! Always liked chevelles especially the mid 60s. I have a 65 El camino.
Thanks! And very nice - I love elkos !
Awesome car man. Down to that color combo. Videos like this are why I come to youtube lol.
@@elitepersonality9515 hey thanks man! Glad you like them. Put a videos up since this one too.
Very beautiful car ! With a electric fuel pump and another intake that gets more in
Fixing the interior back up on my 66. mice got in it over the winter and it stunk so bad you couldn't stand it. Thought about a 496. has a 396 currently (375 clone engine) with a TH 400 and 4.10's. 3" exhaust, Dynomax Ultraflows, 2" primaries, 3800 stall. It's a red on black car. Bought it when I was 15 and owned it for 40 years now. Love first gens!
Sounds like a great car, man! I had the same thing happen to my headliner too. I pulled it all out around the time I made this video, but I still have put the new one in yet ugh
Sounds good and runs good man, love that its manual. Can definitely see the big cube torque at play here
Thanks man! Still ripping on it 5 years later.
Nice, Chevy enjoy life is short. Yes, I'm and old Pontiac GTO guys for the 70's
Hell yeah man!
Now THATS the way to go for groceries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s what I’m talkin about!!
Nice ride Man
Thanks man
Looks and sounds great, this car would be lethal on UK roads 😂✌️
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it. It really is a ripper. Check out the video I most recently posted. There’s one clip of basically just redlining it through 1st and 2nd.
Nice year Shevelle. I hope you still have it.
Thanks! Still have it!!
Boy almight it is at 4:23 when i had that devious "ohhhhh hahahahahahaeeeeehhhhh" realization. Burnt them tires like a flick of a switch. Love it
@@UserName-ln5ol ahahaha if sure does! Thanks!
Beautiful car you have and runs great!
Thank you!
PERFECT. Ass kickin big block chevrolet lets everyone know it doesn’t need loud mufflers.
She’s a ripper!!
I ran one of those thru the gesrs in 1972, my best friend had a 65 ss chevelle that he put an L78 396 in, scary and fast!
Nice!!! It’s a lot of engine for a small car
Very smooth shifting!!
Thank you!!
Love the red interior
Super nice Chevelle bro. Reminds me of my dad's 65 SS he had. 327 4spd 12 bolt. He had a dual 4 max wedge old school intake that I have yet to find another like it. That back on red is real sharp
Hey thank you! Sounds like he had a great car!
Check out the newest Chevelle video from a couple weeks ago. Got some RPM on camera for ya. It’s a monster for sure.
The one with “Malibu violence” in the title*
Easily... mine similar build made closer to 610 foot pounds 585 hp
@@jamesunderdal8976 I agree! She's a torque monster for sure. Mines made 565hp/600tq on 9 to 1 compression ratio
Sounds nice passenger side blowing a little oil,I like the Hurst shifter
Thanks!
Sounds great! I have a '64 Malibu 9-passenger wagon, wish I had your motor in it ;-)
@@mikeh4245 very cool!!! I love wagons. What engine is in it?
@leojt9423 In the midst of taking out the '86 305 and putting in a slightly hopped up 283, in the back of my mind I'm thinking of an LS... But love big blocks, so I'm torn :-)
Nothing like cubic inch and torque!
No replacement for displacement!
Awesome man! Reminds me of my '64 Camino!
Thanks man!! It’s a great car. A handful for sure.
Awesome video of that beautiful 1964 Chevelle, really is a beautiful car and very rare as far as very many in that nice of condition.but in the beginning of this video you also had an extended cab 4+4 that looked realy awesome as well.thumbs up and now im a subscriber to your channel.keep up your dedication and time on your videos because its always awesome to see ones like this one.🇺🇲💯✝️🙏😎
@@ericnixon4225 Thank you for subscribing and thank you for the kind comment!
That’s a tough story man, so sorry to hear it! Glad you enjoyed a great car while you could
Thanks man. Look forward to future videos of that beautiful chevelle of yours
@ thank you! I put a few of them up in the last few years, since making this one. Check them out! Still have it, car still rips.

Beautiful car, we call shifting like that coffee breaking.
Coffee breaking??
@@leojt9423 When one doesn't speed shift. Not derogatory by any means.
@@kleenk8 I didn’t take it that way, was just trying to make sense of it hahah
That's the steering I grew up with teaches how to drive! Which most people can't.
@@williepelzer384 Easy to drive when you only got 400-600 horsepressures available.
Start creeping up on a thousand and it's a different story, Willie.
Man that thing is perfect. Bench seat to pipes to 4 speed behind a rat. Red interior is also choice.
Thank you! It’s a driver quality car,but I have fun in it
@ I have owned a restoration shop since 2001. Driver quality is the best quality. I enjoy a fresh build too. But I honestly have never owned one. Because I don’t care about showing them. I want to drive.

I saw you replied again but can’t see the comment man.
My 496 with similar build made 585 hp and 610 ft pounds torque at flywheel very fun paired with the M21 in my 55 210
Great Torque !!
