Yes, dolby cinema was by far the best way to see this movie in 3D. I saw it in that format first and then in imax with laser 3D, and i was completely jaw dropped the entire time and came out of it with a whole new outlook on 3D and the theater experience as a whole when i saw it at the dolby cinema. The imax laser 3D was still impressive, but it was still a huge difference from the dolby, and there were even scenes that hurt my eyes because it couldn't deal with the close-up out of focus objects well at all. Whereas the dolby cinema was completely clear and smooth the entire way through.

Trust me having a consistent framerate is better than the jump from 24fps to 48fps and back that I witnessed in Dolby Cinema. Every CGI scene in 48fps looks like a video game cutscene. And it's super jarring when it switches from those scenes back to regular 24fps scenes. Having the entire movie in 48fps would be ideal but I don't think that's possible.

      @aoshi000 Рік тому

@noel hernandez yeah the back and forth was jarring. For the action scenes, it just mostly took me out of them. I mean it was cool watching in imax and dolby, but the soap opera effect was still there. Faster frame rates is good for video game due to response time. I bet the bluray version would feel more cinematic with regular frame rate. I didn't like they sped up the 1st avatar imax 4k either. Feels like watching something at 1.5x, very unnatural

    • @frommatorav1

I read the 48 fps was mainly to help the 3d experience. The theatre I saw it in was cinema3d, not IMAX but it was pretty awesome. Avatar 2 Way of the Water and Top Gun Maverick were home runs in the movie theatre experience. My only issue is that neither movie respected my bladder, with their super long run time. The digital copy of Avatar 2, I at least got to pause for a couple of bathroom breaks. lol. I thought Avatar 2 had better visuals than I was expecting but I'm also looking forward to better sound when disk version comes out. The 3d and audio in theater was clearly better but that's why you go.

Dolby vision offers more control, the creator can utitlize colors in each scene. Where as Regular HDR, it just gets plastured over the picture like a bucket of paint. HElps some scenes, then it doesnt for others. DV is also clearer and sharper.

I think it's unfortunate that the "true" version of the film may never be available on home media. We rarely get IMAX ratio on blu ray, and never from Disney. They occasionally do it for Disney+ but usually only for Marvel. High framerate films like Gemini Man and the Hobbit films? Just the standard versions when released on home video and digital. And 4K/3D is just not a format that exists at home, or is supported by any streaming platform, and 3D TVs are no longer in production

There is no 'IMAX' ratio withouth 11.1 sound on digital. 5.1 sound with Flat aspect ratio is a normal thing. So, for the future, you don't watch IMAX 'scenes' at home. NEVER. Tons of fun & creative usage with the heights and I found all 7 bedlayer speakers to be super active. LFE was excellent and didn't disappoint as well. The humans were photographed so I'm not sure what you mean by "uncanny valley effect" in the scenes with humans. Maybe you mean the photographed elements aren't composited well to the CG elements? I also don't understand how inserting more frames is going to address that, HFR typically rises to prominence for motion-heavy scenes, and I believe from interviews James Cameron has expressed that his intention is a variable framrate that only goes to HFR for the motion-heavy scenes, although that might not be the result in practice. Also since the HDR info is in the metadata, the HDR itself isn't going to suffer from streaming compression artifacts the way that fine picture detail sometimes can, unless you are talking about a case where static HDR data is used for streaming (sometimes wrapped in a fake dynamic container for marketing purposes) but then it turns out there is actual dynamic HDR metadata on the 4k disc. I'm not aware of any specific instances of this but I'm sure there are some.

Unless you are Leela from Futurama or Samny Davis Jr or Patchy the Pirate, you CAN watch it in 3d. The main question "Is the 3d sickness you sometimes get worth the 3d?" and your answer is "No". If you have 2 working eyes, you CAN (as in physically able to) watch 3D, but if you get 3d headaches, you would prefer to see it in 2d.
Actually the 3d at home is more impressive on my dinky Sony Playstation 3d TV. (The number one tv all time in sales when the customer comes in and says "Either I want to buy a 3d TV or you don't get my money")
It's that stupid Polar 3d Tech that causes 3x headaches. Tilt your head more than 1 degree and you get partial depolarization, which causes double exposure. Which causes confusion, which causes headaches.
Even though shutter 3d would be bad in a communal setting (very expensive to have hundreds of shutter glasses, and grody, even before Covid 19) at home, it is, in my opinion, stupid to settle for polar 3d.
The industry got greedy, instead of making a Sega Scope-like add in for existing TVs, they asked you to buy a 3d TV 2 years after the digital changeover. You were not going to throw out a 2-year old thousand dollar tv and pay to replace it just to get 3d. Especially after the 2012 3D Super Bowl Fiasco.

@@drewscentral5587 first of all, do polar 3d screens have this new tilt avoidance system?
That still doesn't change the fact that mom got 3d headaches in a theater with The Hobbit 1 and in 5 minutes had to transfer to a 2d theater. Yet she watched Wreck it Ralph at hone on my Playstation 3dtv and quit after 25 minutes because she wasn't into the story. (Not because of 3d sickness) She'd promised me if I got a 3d version of a movie we know she likes in 2d and see if 3d enhances it, and see if she gets sick. I got 4 titles in mind.
I never heard any news of Sega Master System Sega Scope 3d causing 3d sickness but the (old) polar stuff does.
And that's another advantage shutter 3d had polar 3d:. Sony like my theory on how to build an add-on 3d kit to work with any tv. The secret is using HDMI ARC to conpensate for any ping time. If you do that, then any tv can become a 3d tv.
Polar tvs have to have a polarized screen preinstalled to start with, which means certain tvs are 2d and certain ones are 3d, and the 3d haters are in a crusade against the "upgrade or die" mentality by intentionally paying more for a lack of 3d.
If every tv started as 2d and can be turned into 3d, that takes the negative-value added feature value out of 3d screens. With 3dnm-ness was a separate transaction. 3d haters cannot manipulate markets this way.
The other secret is to nit so the Leela Bowl and have a side by side half broadcast, which is humanly incompatible if you don't have 3d decoder equipment.
